    Quesadilla

Costalilla is a genuine Mexican restaurant. But as a nod to their Salvadorean and Honduran clientele, pupusas are also served. Indoor dining is available with several tables inside the restaurant. I've been here maybe around ten times now over the past five years. Service is fine. Costalilla's best dish is their pozole. It comes with a delicious broth, large hominy and lots of pork. Unfortunately, the pozole is only served on weekends. But that is actually typical for Mexican restaurants to only serve pozole on the weekend. I can recommend Costalilla's quesadillas. You can get yours with a variety of meat, including carnita, carne asada, chicken, beef tongue, chorizo, tripa and beef head . The quesadillas are large and served with a tasty white cheese. Oh boy, but do they ever pack their quesadillas full of meat! I just wish they packaged take-out orders with a bit more care. My quesadilla today was swimming in a pool of refried beans. The corn tortilla tacos are very good with generous portions of meat ($3.30/each as of this writing). I especially like the flavorful red salsa from Costalilla's condiment bar. The tortas (sandwiches) are okay. The bread is bit dry. There's a couple of drawbacks to Costllla. First, the menu is small. You will not find full entrees, and, there aren't any enchiladas. The second drawback is there is no ice. You can get can of soda, but not in a glass with ice. It's the same with the horchata, but I just cannot recommend horchata without ice.

Closed on Sundays I guess.... Their hours say open but it's 6pm on a Sunday and they are locked up.

They aren't even open when they're hours say they are and the place has no sit down eating. Take out only.

This is a true whole in the wall. It's on a little strip dedicated to worldly food grocery stores (and easy to miss so keep your eye out) I felt like I walked in to a family's cookout which was a good thing! (Meaning it doesn't feel gentrified). I took a quick look at the menu but it doesn't have prices. I advised the waiter I wanted 4 tacos; 2 carne asada and 2 pastor however I like my pastors to be fatty so she let the cook know. I waited maybe six minutes before my food was fresh out the window. I loved how they served everything on paper plates (gave me a home-like feeling). They have all the sides you need off to the side for you to dress up your entree how you like. I sat down and listened to telémundo in the background and devoured my tacos and pineapple agua fresca. I spent $14!

Looking for good authentic tacos?! This is it! We got the carne asada tacos and we were able to put unlimited topping at the sauce station (not sure what it's called but it was a section that was open to put whatever you like on your food). The meat was tender and tasted better with the green salsa! There was a short wait and seating was first come first serve bases. Ambiance was casual. I appreciated how clean the restroom was! And there was ample parking available.

I went to college in DC and after four years of searching I had found very little in the way of solid authentic Mexican food in the DMV. So I was thrilled when I found this absolute gem when traveling in the area with my girlfriend. This place is authentic down to the art on the wall and makes me feel like I'm back in the Mission in San Francisco. Tacos are incredible and reasonably priced. Same for the burritos which are hefty and well filled. Empanadas we're solid and sides were on point. My only critique is that the burritos could be rolled tighter and could probably lose the lettuce. If you are in the area you need to check this place out.

Pupusas (I think, my sister ordered)

Great tasting authentic Mexican food. Fresh and hot. However, a side of rice and beans on a paper plate = $8.00?!?? Ridiculous.

We arrived at 4:03 p.m. and left by 4:46 p.m. Our plan was to relax at the bar, enjoy happy hour margaritas, have appetizers, then dinner while watching the soccer match--a leisurely vacation evening. The hospitality, unfortunately, was lacking. Although our bartender wasn't rude, she seemed to be in a constant rush to get us to order, despite the restaurant being relatively quiet with only a few tables occupied. We even mentioned that we were hoping to enjoy a slow, relaxing evening, but we still felt hurried throughout our visit. The happy hour margaritas were very lime-forward with very little tequila. We switched to a regular menu margarita ("The Perfect"), but even that tasted weaker than expected. As tequila fans, we were disappointed. We also found the food to be far from authentic Tex-Mex. Having lived in San Antonio, I realize that's a high standard, but this didn't come close to what we expected. In the end, we asked for our food to go and left. We found another restaurant where we could relax and enjoy the kind of hospitality we had been looking for. I don't enjoy leaving critical reviews, but this was a disappointing experience, and unfortunately, I can't recommend it.

Inside, most tables were taken but there were a few empty and what seemed to be plenty of waiters around. My bf and I sat at the bar. The couple next to us got there just before us and got their menus, chips and drinks, plus ordered. We received nothing. After awhile someone handed us chips and a menu. Then we were ignored again. Meanwhile the couple next to us had received their food. I finally flagged someone down and asked for a beer, queso and 4 tacos. My bf who did not have a drink never got water. They brought us 3 tacos instead of 4 and then ignored us again. Are you noticing a theme? The tacos honestly were not even good. Oh, and because of the "holiday" they automatically added an 18% tip. Probably because with this service and food they would receive less than that. Not a great experience.

We were greeted and seated immediately when we arrived. There were maybe 3 or 4 tables total occupied during our visit so not too busy on a Sunday afternoon. There is outdoor seating as well. Our server, who was very friendly, hyped the premium margarita so we gave in and said yes. We also tried the passionfruit margarita. The premium was strong but that's probably what you're going for anyway The passionfruit margarita was delicious but not strong at all. We tried the chips and dip and the Platanos Fritos (plantains with sour cream) to start. Chips were fresh and hot. Salsa was a bit creamy. Never had it like this before but the taste was pretty good. Plantains were perfect! While we didn't order the Guac ( Guacamole Molcajete) , it was brought to our table. We found it to be on the bland side with no hints of cilantro, onion, lime or salt. We saw a few bits of tomato but it tasted just like a plain smashed avocado. Not something we would order again. We decided to try all the street tacos except the vegetarian so we could taste everything. Steak, chicken, fish, shrimp, ground beef, pork (al pastor), carnitas. We also got the 3 street taco platter that came with the Mexican rice and beans. We found the shrimp and fish tacos to be lacking in the quantity of meat. But they were flavorful. The chicken, while plentiful, was dry even with the sauce. The steak, al pastor and carnitas were all packed with meat and delicious but both our Al Pastor tacos were missing the pineapple. The ground beef was my personal favorite but was very greasy. The Mexican rice and pinto beans....Both were just ok. Overall, food was ok we were expecting a bit more flavor. Service was great. Pricing was a bit higher than what we usually pay for a similar order.
