I used to love this place, but it's gone down in quality over the last year. Their grilled onions sit around for awhile so lose its freshness and the meat just isn't seasoned as well as it used to. This is also the bigger issue for me - the grill cook doesn't wear gloves. I've looked the other way a few times I've been there, but I noticed his nails were dirty and he was openly scooping up cheese and meats with his bare hands and touching the tortilla. Amazing tacos with quick and friendly service! I tried the chorizo, asada, pastor, tripa, and lengua tacos. The chorizo was my favorite! Each taco is $2 and there is a condiment station with radish/cucumbers, pickled onions, raw onions, lime, and salsa. There is also some outdoor seating available right in front of the stand. It's located at the edge of the street next to a neighborhood and the seating is quaint. Street parking is available. Overall would definitely return! read more

I saw this while driving to a Halloween event and knew I needed To try. I got three Al Pastor tacos and ate one before I could even take a picture :). Inside the place, which is basically a sidewalk café surrounded by chain-link fence which was a little weird but typical LA... It was pretty clean and definitely well lit. We were there around 10:30 at night. There were multiple meat options and all looked pretty good and there was salsa and onions and lime as well as some drink options. I am super happy they are open to Covid. I have been here at least half a dozen times before Covid. I think these are the best Al pastor tacos in LA. Stick wit tacos but my favorite are the mulitas. The torta is simple and just okay. I was actually heading to Ave 26 but was told to go here. Of course, I have compared this to Ave a couple times. Ave 26 is more like. Tourist spot or Dodger pre-game/post game hang out. You usually need to speak Spanish to order but today there was actually someone who spoke English. A friend took me here the first time and I am now a regular! Although, a bit intimidating being the only chinita in the joint, but services from the primos are always friendly and welcoming. Where to start? I love street food and hole in the wall restaurants, there is no atmosphere, ambiance, high rent passed to customers, or corporate feel of hiring people who don't care. This place is the epitomy of a local 'mom and pop' type of business only its 4 guys instead. Their prices are extremely cheap($1.25 tacos), their portions are huge(guy literally uses taco to pick up as much meat as he can off grill) and they have a very large variety of meats available. But what stands out is the quality and execution. Yes, I know what you're saying...execution from a cheap taco stand? Well, they do something I've NEVER seen anyone else do before. Others just grill the meat, chop it up and serve, but that leads to super dry meat. These guys...they have a big foil wrapped pot where they stew all the meat in its own juices, then after its cooked they transfer it to grill to sear, this way all the juices are still in the meat. This leads to the best of both worlds, juicy, grilled, cheap, big tacos. Yes the 'seating area' is dirty and the salsa are just okay, but salsas are mainly if the tacos arent good in first place, and these tacos need nothing. On weekdays they are kinda quiet but, WOW weekends show just how much locals know where the good stuff is. My only regret is posting this review might get them more business and my food might take longer next time or prices might go up faster, but these guys deserve a long overdue steady stream of customers from people in highland park who don't know what good food actually tastes like. On a side note, they will quickly recognize me as I've literally eaten there 4 of last 5 days(great post workout food instead of protein shakes). read more

I came here last night with a friend who promised me the best tacos I had ever had and boy was she right! I had the carne asada and the al pastor tacos. The carne asada was my favorite Really words can not describe how good it was. They make their own mild and hot salsa and have all the fixings there for you. People who serve off-the-shelf powdered mixes to the public demonstrate a callous disregard bordering on disdain for their patrons. What's more they do damage to culture by selling this under the name of an authentic drink, thus creating thousands of people who think they don't like horchata because they've never had it before, but tragically, falsely believe they have. My go to neighborhood taco spot. Set up in a fenced off corner of Pasadena and Ave 36 and open late 11-12pm depending on how busy it seems. Street parking available near by. Also, it's RIGHT off the Heritage Square Gold Line Metro stop which had a huge parking lot. Totally worth hopping off the train, grabbing a plateful, and nomming while waiting for the next train. These fellows are friendly and serve some amazingly affordable and delicious tacos, burritos, and mulitas. Cash only but you can stuff your and a friend's faces together easily for under $15. Drinks (horchata, occasionally an agua fresca) are cheap and tasty too and they provide a plethora of cilantro/onions/radish/homemade guac salsa/medium and verde salsas...don't forget to ask for the grilled onions/peppers from the hot top! I've seen their al pastor spit topped with the pineapple slice rotating in my dreams and woke up drooling. Asada tacos are solid too. I seriously may use these dudes for my wedding. Sorry hun. These tacos are serious business. Not only were they able to claim #1 on my list of Best Tacos in LA, they also have superb Horchata. This little gem is located on a corner between Highland Park and Lincoln Heights and you've probably managed to drive past them several times. Their asada tacos are perfectly mixed with sweet/spicy and their carnitas tacos are incredibly filled with flavour. Not dry, not too greasy, and just perfect. It is cash only, so keep in mind. Pricing is incredibly reasonable! Primos are friendly and (when I went) had Mariachi blasting, which made the experience that much greater.
