    Chilaquiles w/ green sauce

I love this restaurant. Classic vibes, great food, amazing service. I would rather go here than any other millennial minimal 'mexican' restaurant. This place rocks

MUY RICO! I always drive by this restaurant and hadn't had the chance to try it out until now. They have a small parking lot in the back and you can also find street parking: I went right at lunch time so it was a little busy but we managed to find a table to sit at. I ended up ordering chilaquiles verdes and my friend ordered the huevos rancheros, the food came out promptly and looked amazing! We also ordered agua de guayaba which was delicious. The chilaquiles verdes had the perfect amount of sauce and they weren't very spicy, the huevos rancheros were perfectly made as well and came with a side of tortillas. Definitely give this place a try if you want authentic Mexican food and of course support a local business!

I grew up in Highland Park and lived walking distance from Chico's. As a kid, I never got the chance to try it, but I'd always pass by -- whether walking home from school, church, or just around the neighborhood. Now, years later, I came back to visit my small hometown -- which has definitely changed with gentrification -- but I was so happy to see Chico's still standing strong after all this time. And after finally eating here, I understand why. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted warmly by the owner himself -- super welcoming and down to earth. I couldn't decide between two dishes, and when I asked for a recommendation, he offered to combine them: green enchiladas and carne asada on one plate. That alone deserves 5 stars! The food was absolutely delicious. Even my brother, who ordered the chilaquiles, couldn't stop raving about his plate. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with love. The space is small but clean and charming, with a nostalgic vibe that instantly made me feel at home. I'll definitely be coming back every time I visit Highland Park. This place is a gem -- and it's easy to see why it's been around all these years.

Better late than never is how the saying goes. However, I'm kicking myself for not coming here sooner, but I'm glad I finally did. If you are looking for good, authentic Mexican Food Chico's is the place. In addition to the tables of happy diners, there was a steady stream of people coming in to pick up to-go orders. The place is small & quaint, and the festive décor adds to the appeal. The chips were fresh, and the salsa was flavorful. I ordered the Camarones a la Diabla and it was fantastic. You can request the level of spiciness - extra spicy for me, please. The Diabla sauce was addicting - I wanted to lick the plate. The shrimp were juicy & tender. The Spanish rice was fluffy, and the refried beans were creamy. Both were tasty. The homemade flour tortillas were fresh, warm, & soft - perfect for soaking up all that yummy sauce. After my meal I had the pleasure of speaking with the owner Alberto, who told me this family-owned restaurant opened in 1991 and he's been working here every day since. He loves his customers and the community, and they all love him back. During the pandemic they asked him how they could help, and he said, "Order food," so they did daily in order to keep this beloved neighborhood gem afloat. Their dedication is an attestation to how good the food is here. The 5-star reviews are legit. *Beer & wine only. *Small parking lot or street parking.

Chilaquiles with Red & Green Salsa, 3 eggs on the side, Two Tamales combination (one pork and one chicken) mixed

I woke up craving tamales and have before gotten pozole for pick-up here, which was delicious! When I saw they also have tamales, I had to return for more. The salsas are rich and the Cafe De Olla was absolutely delicious. We asked for them non-dairy and it made the coffees even better with the Mocha non-dairy milk drinks. The service was wonderful, we had our food within ten minutes of sitting down and everything was so fresh. The ambiance is very family and community restaurant oriented. We saw some teens sitting alone and enjoying their food, a few couples and families. The place looks small on the outside but it's cozy on the inside. I absolutely will be back and highly recommend :)

Mamma Mia what are please 33 years of excellent service thank God for this oasis !

The Peruvian food is still as good now as it was then. I ordered the Aquadito de Pollo which is a chicken soup with a distinct herbal flavor. There is plenty of tender chicken in the soup. It was a good start to my main which was Pollo de Saltado, my favorite. The dish was nicely prepared with a good ratio mix of chicken, onions, tomatoes, and French fries. It was not too salty at all. Rosty seems to make an exemplary Pollo de Saltado. The Chicha Morada was refreshing with the meal. I would return to Rosty if I am in the area again. Dining areas are comfortable with staff being friendly and efficient. The neighborhood looked gentrified with many other businesses in close proximity to explore. Street parking is usually available on the side streets if none is found in front of the restaurant.

What I tried: - Fried yucca - a classic and great way to start the meal - Arroz chaufa de mariscos - shrimp, squid, mussels and fried rice. This was yummy and easily large enough to share. However, the rice was a bit too much on the salty side - Tallarin saltado de carne - sirloin beef strips with spaghetti and sautéed with onions and tomatoes. So delicious, but I wish they were a bit more generous with the amount of beef given the price - Causa de Cameron acevichada - smashed potatoes with shrimp ceviche. Only available on Fridays/weekends. Beautiful presentation and tasted as good as it looked Overall a great spot to try Peruvian food in a comfortable, casual setting. We tried four different paellas: Seafood, Seafood Noodle, Squid Ink, and the daily special (which I've sadly forgotten). I genuinely can't pick a favorite...they were all so incredible. I've had some pretty bad experiences with overly salty paella, even in Spain (!!!), so I was relieved Dos Besos wasn't that. Great selection of tapas as well. We basically ordered everything. The standouts for me were the Galician octopus, mushrooms in truffle cream, and the cured meats. But holy, everything was so good. I am not a huge fan of red wine but the sangria was fruity and went down smoothly. Desserts were also fantastic, I especially loved the torrijas. The chef, who's from Barcelona, was incredibly kind and came out personally to offer complimentary pan con tomate with our endless jamón orders. Incredible experience and I would love to come back every day if I had the financial means to.

We loved it when we had the owners, husband and wife on the floor. In our recent visit, the owners weren't there. No one came to check on us or refilled our water not at least till the very end of our dinner because they wanted to see if we wanted to order dessert. Now, we watched them bus other tables out in the patio with water and frequent visits. There were only a few tables occupied at the time so the restaurant wasn't busy and definitely has the capacity to serve. I will not be coming back again sadly. Customer service is what makes or breaks a restaurant for me.

The oysters were also excellent. They were fresh, briny, and exactly what we were hoping for. The tostada was another favorite with great flavor and texture. The only misses for me were the icy crudo and the chicory Caesar salad. The fish in the crudo was fresh, but it was overdressed with too many competing flavors that kept the fish from standing out. The chicory Caesar salad was the biggest disappointment. It was very mint forward and didn't have the classic flavors of a Caesar at all. I don't mind a creative interpretation, but this didn't taste like a Caesar salad whatsoever. Overall, the quality of the seafood was excellent - not sure if I'd come back though due to the inconsistency amongst the meal.

Because the wait time was too long for that, we decided to try The Dive Oyster Bar -- and man are we sure glad we did. We got a total of five items: a bowl of clam chowder, the soft shell crab appetizer, the roasta, the traditional pan roast with the house speciality protein (with the crab on the side because of my dad's crab allergy), and the jambalaya, which for the last three we ate with medium heat. We shared everything (except for the crab appetizer because, again, crab allergy for dad) and found the food to be delicious, with each entree coming out tasting better than the last. Personally, the roasta was my favorite with the pan roast as a close second. Very flavorful dishes with medium heat being a good level for us (wasn't spicy for our Korean palates). Service was great, our server (unfortunately forgot his name) was attentive and quick with our requests, and although he forgot a side of rice, it was for the best as the food had settled in our stomachs by then and we were content with what we ordered. The restaurant itself is well maintained with ample table space and appropriate lighting, though the music from the evening DJ was a tad bit too loud to hear from across the table. Not a big mood killer for us, though mostly because the good was that good. We're not from this area, so the odds of coming here again are relatively slim -- but should the opportunity present itself, it'll be more than fate this time to take us through these doors once again.
