We were up the street at The OffBeat and la cena/dinner was calling para mi y a mi novio. I'd never had huarache and neither has he, but would had two delicious ones along with great service and beverages. The inside is nice, but the weather was perfect so we dinned outside at once of their tables as did many others. He order in Spanish and I understand every word him and our amazing waitress exchange. I started to order in Spanish, but got in my head about conjugating properly, but práctica hace los centavos... So maybe next time lol Everything is authentic and amazing. Great vegetarian options that are also vegan friendly. Refreshing Aguas Frescas, Cafe/Coffee, and various Soft Drinks (Jarritos, Coca Mexicana aka Mexican Coke, Sangría Señorial, Perrier and more). Plus bottled cervezas! Their menu has a lot of variety, aside from the star of the show (huarache). You can also order tacos, tortas, sope, nachos, gorditas, burritos, y tanto (so much)! Great art and murals, especially inside along with a menu board. They give you physical menus and red as well as green sauce for the table, both of which are excelente, though the red has more heat naturally. We enjoyed the Huitlacoche (Corn Mushroom) sin queso y sin crema (without cheese & cream) for me and the Flor de Calabaza (Squash Blossom) for him with everything. It was like a flat bread with refried beans, cilantro, onion, corn and the topping of choice. The masa is perfect and one is a good meal, two is plentiful. We didn't have their chips with salsa or guacamole this time as we snacked a little beforehand, but definitely will next time. Sandia Agua Fresca is a 10/10, never had one so pure and so good. Tasted like the freshest watermelon jugo I've ever had. And the food is 12/10 for sure. Prices are more than reasonable. Restrooms inside for customers with easy access. Parking is street. This is a local spot in Highland Park that has been there for years. They have friendly service and excellent Mexican food. They are known for their Huaraches which is basically a thick tortilla on the bottom in an oblong shape with toppings on it. You can get any type of meat or you can get vegetarian with multiple options. Potato and jalapeño are my fave. They top it will some queso fresco, crema, crisp iceberg lettuce and a little red onion. You can get a "super" huarache which is basically a bigger size, and you can get it "wet" with salsa on the bottom of the plate - red salsa, green salsa or both (half and half). You can sit inside or outside and they will bring menus and take your order at the table. Very friendly staff. I got chicken tinga tostadas - also delicious. The toppings in include your choose of meat - carne asada, chicken, chicharrones, etc. You can pick your type of veggies. If you have picky eaters, you can order everything on the side. It's very affordable and worth a try since it is a traditional Mexican dish. The agua fresca was very refreshing. It was authentic (not made with powder). It was not overly sweet. Came here with a group and everyone's meal had some misses. The carne asada was overcooked and chewy, which is a shame because the flavor was pretty nice. The super huaraches were drowning in sauce to the point of being ahogada. Their huitlacoche isn't actually corn fungus; it's 99% zucchini and fresh corn with a couple small pieces of huitlacoche. I had already made a review a few yrs ago and I actually stop coming to this restaurant. I decided to give them another chance and well guess what???? They disappointed me AGAIN!!! We came in at 730 PM and very hungry from a 12 hr shift and i walked in I sat down to look at the menu and they just told me oh we are not serving orders for here. The tacos, huaraches, and tostadas are good and the salsa that comes with the chips is quite tasty as well. I wish they'd make the (purple) onions on the tacos smaller; they're these big sloppy pieces that make the tacos difficult to eat. They have a pretty big menu, including a "Cuban" sandwich that has a hot dog in it, wtf??? Service is OK but the food can be slow coming to the table. There's an eating area in the front, another in the back and down a hall, and an outdoor patio at the end of the driveway. Food is great, however the service is terrible. Once you take a seat the staff act as if the customer is doing them the favor of being there. They are very rude with no customer service. 1st thing 1st very welcoming n great customer service, the food sorry forgot to take a pic but was beyond outstanding texture n taste wise 10/10 I got the costillas with salsa verde double rice presentation was amazing come with a grilled nopal n the meat was tasteful fall off the bone with great taste perfect no more seasoning needed, their aguua de pepino con limon is bomb asf.
