Excellent authentic Mexican joint serving tacos, burritos, tamales, and more for shockingly cheap prices (aka not the usual inflated CT prices). I got the lengua, al pastor, and carne asada tacos. All three were tasty, but I think the lengua was my favorite. The meat was so tender and soft that I was just picking it out of my taco to enjoy on its own. My fiancé got the chorizo, carnitas, and lengua and really enjoyed his as well. His favorite was the chorizo, which I agreed was the best after having a small bite of his. We also ordered a tamale but never got it, which is fine because we were both full after three tacos each. The reason why it's not five star is that the seasoning is pretty light and can border on bland at times. I wish the meats were spiced a little more heavily and that the tomato was cut into pieces rather than one big slice. Along with your meal, you're served fresh tortilla chips and two types of salsa, which was an unexpected surprise. The atmosphere is no-frills. Don't expect a fancy atmosphere, and you'll love it. We had a late dinner here from out of town. Got recommended by a friend. We sat in the bar area and the service was really good and our servers were super sweet. It was pretty busy but still good service. I was impressed when we got three different types of salsa. Of course we got margs and they were delicious and big for only 12 bucks. We got carne Asada tacos and everything was cooked super well. The prices were good and I will definitely will be returning and can't wait to try different things. The bathrooms were clean also which is always a plus. read more

This place has been on my to do list for quite some time! We were hungry for a quick snack and decided to stop in. We were seated right away, and given chips with a couple different sauces. Very fresh and tasty! We picked out a few tacos to try and I added on a tamale. My tacos came without cheese for some reason, and I had to go up to ask for the sour cream I had ordered. The food was all excellent though! At the end it took a while to get the check, because so many people were coming in for take out. But it was worth it! Really good tacos! Kind of a hole in the wall place, this shop is run by a very nice family! On my first visit, I had menudo, 3 tacos (lengua, al pastor, and carnita), a pork tamale, and horcata. All of the food was great, and the meat that filled the tacos were cooked to perfection. Super tender and juicy! The toppings on the tacos were lackluster and I didn't feel like they added anything to the taco (tomato and lettuce? Meh...) The homemade hot sauce that they offer is AMAZING. One is extra spicy and hits you immediately (orange), while the other builds steadily and by the time you realize it, you're breathing fire (green). I honestly loved them both and added both to my tacos for extra oof in spice. To make things better, they are using some really good quality paper products for their plastic replacement. While there are still some plastic items around (lids for drinks, spoons and small containers for sauces) they have high quality cardboard to-go containers and thick paper straws that won't disintegrate when you use it. not 100% plastic free but definitely a step in the right direction for a small, local establishment! It was quite busy for noon time on a weekday and parking can be a challenge. I ordered guacamole And chips, rice and one chorizo taco. For what I got the price was amazing. The guac was one of the best I've had and a great serving size along with the pit! Talk about fresh. The rice was tasty and prepared well and the taco looked terrific and authentic! A young lady brought my 7yr old and I a basket of fresh cooked tortilla chips and two dips (salsa and a avacado crema type ) . We decided on nachos for me with steak ontop and a soft taco with shredded beef and cheese only for him. Within 5 min are orders were brought to us and they were delicious. Plenty of cheese and steak ontop of the nachos with sliced tomato & a sour cream drizzle. Visited a Wednesday night at around 6PM. Greeted at entrance with a nice welcome. Seating was plentiful with many booths and tables. Server was very nice and attentive to our needs. She had a Spanish accent so we figured it was real Mexican food and it was. I had the pork burrito which was super. Husband had chicken fajitas which he said were one of the best he has ever had. Ambiance was all Spanish songs playing which hit the spot on giving a Mexican food feel. read more

They recently opened their much bigger restaurant just a few feet from their original establishment but I must say I am not impressed by the food anymore. We ordered their chorizo tacos, shredded beef tacos, chicken tacos and chicken quesadilla. The meat was dry and the chorizo was so salty! This is an excellent example of why Yelp works( much of the time) I found myself in another state for a work thing and needed to find victuals. Sure, I could have just stayed at the hotel and had their restaurants food, or take a short walk to a 3 star Italian joint. But that's not how Elites roll. I fired up the app and quickly spotted this gem. It's located in a strip mall that houses some lower middle class businesses( not a jab, not really sure how else to describe them) coin laundry, bodega style grocery store, that type of thing. And parking, on this night, was a nightmare. I had to park in a neighboring auto parts store lot. Once at the restaurant I saw that I would not be dining in, only about 8 tables and a few counter seats, with at least 8 people waiting around for a take out or table. The menu is short and printed above the grill area, I quickly ordered 4 tacos and a small container of guacamole from the friendly and efficient manager who was taking care of the register. It smelled great inside, and the 15 or so minute wait felt longer as my hunger increased. I knew the prices were reasonable, but my $9 check seemed a mistake. No, tacos were listed at $1.75 ea and the guacamole must have been $2 max? I debated about digging in while back at the car, but had enough will power to make it back to my room first. They turned out to be very good, and hot still. Double tortilla'd but a bit smaller than are served in my area. I tried 3 of their 8(?) proteins, all worth repeating. The beef Barbacoa was my least favorite, but still tasty. The chicken and steak ones were equally good, diced up bits of meat with sear marks and just lightly seasoned, tender and good portions too. They all were dressed with a little lettuce, onion, shredded cheese and tomato slices. The pico and hot sauce were both very good too. The guacamole however was watery. More of a sauce with possibly too much tomatillos added in? It might have been an off batch? At that low price I used some and it barely affected my enjoyment. I'd probably say 4.5 Yelps or so, but the guac knocked it down a bit. Thanks to all the Ct. folks for reviewing this hole in a wall and allowing me to partake of some of that area's best and most authentic Mexican food. Ole! read more

Cheap, fast, and actually good! Maybe not the best carne asada I've ever had (but then again, we are in the northeast) but it's still pretty damn good for its price. I also REALLY like the al pastor. The sopes with any meat are awesome and the tamales are delicious. You can easily get a full meal and some for $10. The free salsas are great too! One thing that I wish they had were some seafood tacos, like fish or shrimp. They have ceviche so I'm sure they could add either of those to the menu. One of the servers brought us menus along with a basket of chips and bowls of salsa. We eagerly dug into the chip basket, as soon as it was placed on the table. There were two red salsas and a very smooth guacamole. All of them were very good. One of the salsas was a little too hot for me, but my husband and father enjoyed it. I ordered three tacos for myself; Al Pastor,Barbacoa and Carne Azada. I also ordered a cheese quesadilla and rice for my son. My husband ordered the Al Pastor burrito, my dad ordered the chicken nachos and my mom ordered the veggie tacos. All of the meals were delivered quickly. All of the ingredients were very fresh and delicious. The Al Pastor is out of this world good! My husband was only half joking, when he asked if we could come back for dinner. I love that this place is in Meriden. Not much is in Meriden, but we managed to have good tacos! I like the carne asada best. They're small so you may need 3 or 4 with a side of beans and rice or get an appetizer. I highly recommend the guacamole, which I have to say, as someone who grew up in Southern California, is pretty legit. On another visit I tried the pozole which was disappointingly watery and lacking in flavor. The quesadilla was nice and somehow, comforting. The horchata had a little too much cinnamon for me, however still refreshing. Tacos Mi Nacho is popular which is evident by the line that sometimes goes out the door. The dining area is small, maybe 5 booths, but I've never had to wait more than 10 min for a table. Most people seem to order and go. It's a good idea considering the terrible parking, shared with a market and laundromat. It takes a little work and patience to get them, but the tacos and guacamole here are worth it! This place is AWESOME. A little hole in the wall in a run down little plaza on Broad St. in Meriden lies some seriously BANGIN Mexican food. Don't let the plain interior and weird sliding door throw you off. Good and cheap eats are held within. I had the chorizo nachos yesterday. Mounded high on a plate and DELICIOUS. Toppings included lots of sour cream, onions, and cilantro. Yum. I ended up dumping the salsa and green stuff they give with the requisite basket of chips on top as well. The chips seem to be fresh fried, I noticed a few less than crisp ones in my basket of pre-meal chips they give you - however they were awesome, so that didn't detract...at all. The green stuff (dunno if it's regular guac, it's pretty watery - I've never seen watery guac before - might be guac mixed with other stuff) is AWESOME, and the salsa they gave with the chips wasn't bad either. I can't wait to have an excuse to come back and try more menu items. I wish it was just a SMIDGE closer on 691 to Cheshire so I could actually make it there & back on my lunch break at work.
