I guess I'm the first to review this truck because I couldn't find any other posting on Yelp: Pastele stew - 4 stars - For $7.50 plus 20 cents tax (yes, this truck is one of the few that the tax is not included in their price) it pretty much tasted like the stew I make, but they had more ingredients in it. I like how they blended in cabbage, olives,. chunks of tomatoes and some other spices other than your basic carrot, potato, onion and celery in it. They gave a pretty big serving with two scoops of rice and watercress salad. Pastele - 3 stars - For $4 you can order the pastele ala carte. It's something I haven't eaten before, so I can't say if it's better or worse than other places, but it was something different to try - if you like spicy, it has a spicy after-bite to it. Goes well with the stew. My friend ordered the taco, and he said it was ok. However, I can't rate it since I didn't try it. Service - 5 stars - the man and woman were very friendly and answered my questions on what a pastele is, but more so because I didn't know what a pastele was or tasted like, he gave me a free sample to try, which is something not many lunch trucks would do. They also sell tacos and burritos, but I have to go back to try those too before being a fan of the truck.

I've been to stops along the windward side, while heading down toward Koolau. There used to be (not sure if its still there) Pastele stops along the road. One of the guys that used to serve Pastele along with poke had decent Pastele, but his business was way sketchy. The dude would always "accidentally" miscount the money. He also inaccurately counted up the total of your order in his head. Not to mention his erasable white board was unreadable which made the prices even harder to determine. So don't go to that guy! Instead go to Kai's. Great prices (you don't have to worry about getting ripped off) and their Pastele ingredients are unique in texture. I'm really not even sure if they were made out of the traditional banana base. But i don't really care because they were just so awesome! They offer a a few different types Pastele with different types of meat all at different spice levels. Also several other peurto rican dishes which i still have yet to try are available. Next time I'm getting the seafood Pastele. I'm so bummed because they sold out the last time. I'm a huge fan of seafood and Pastele so when i saw it on the menu i just thought it was the coolest mix. I have two types of favorite food…read more.. Cheeseburger Tacos!!! The very first Eat the Street that my honey and I attended, we veered quickly to Baja Style Mexican Food because: 1. We followed them on Twitter. 2. I also knew that they also had a tent / area at Honolulu Farmer's Market. Did I regret it? No way, José! Especially when I ate their Taco Duros (see pictures). It didn't matter to me if the price was kinda steep for two tacos... it was worth it. The crunchy shell and taco fillings were delicious and crisp to where if you weren't thinking straight...you'd be digging into your pocket for another $8 to pay for two tacos At the Second Eat the Street, again I veered to their tent again and ordered the tacos. YUMMMMAYYYY Third Eat the Street...I had to regretfully and sadly walk away from them because I wanted to try the other food trucks that was there. But, I do know that should I ever venture to Honolulu Farmer's Market, they will be one of the vendors that I will be standing there, waiting to order those tacos that screams to me everytime I am near that tent.

They feature Mexican and Argentinian cuisine. I parked in the free parking lot and made my way to the window. The service was very polite and efficient! I got the Taco Platter. It had one of each flavor: birria, steak, and a vegetarian taco. They were okay, but a bit skimpy. The man warned me that the two sauces in the containers were spicy, so I didn't even open them! I constantly pass this obvious gray truck quietly parked right along Mother Waldron Park in the early hours like a silent nudge for some early morning fuel to start my day...no sign...no service window its like a secret club grinds. Assuming he used to sell Managua sadly none is to be found here but what you'll find is a great assortment of budge friendly items like donuts, pork hash, musubi, chicken and fried noodles. As I approach for my selection a gentleman was a delight ordering two pork hash 2/$1, fried noodles $3 and chicken $2...all was $6! Parked along the park you're able to take advantage to an impromptu picnic though we all basically take it togo as I did to work and fueled my morning for a productive work flow lol! The noodles are plain no cabbage or any veggies not even green onions just some sliced char siu and it was a bit dry but satisfied a hungry appetite, and the pork hash was a tiny single bite size tease and the chicken is similar to a chicken fried steak as it's boneless coated with mochiko it was okay and I was just happy to have a budge friendly choice to start my day. Service was fast and Thyda and Magid - the husband and wife owners - were so friendly and chill. You can tell they take a lot of pride in what they do and love whipping up great food with a great attitude. They talked to us while we ate and shared a little of their 10 year taco stand journey. I wasn't surprised to learn they spent years in LA. The food definitely holds up to LA standards. Head's up - there's no tables and not much seating or parking. Not too many places offer shredded beef. It's usually ground beef and i don't care much for that. The shredded beef is really tender. It's so soft and with the corn tortilla and enchilada sauce just blends so well. I like it as it's very delicious. The steak relleno is really good too. The only complaint I have is about the Spanish rice and refried beans. They were layered thin so it's really not that much. Being the cheapest items to make i would think they would give you more so you would be really full. I just wish had more of it cause it's really good and compliments the enchiladas and relleno. Said that we could sit at any open table. First time there, she gave us time to look over the menu. Good selection, one is ground beef which one of my dinning companion likes. Venue was Mexico Restaurant (MR), located near the corner of N School Street and Houghtailing. MR has been in business on the busy N School Street for over 18 years now. I've been wanting to try here as I've driven past this place so many times and wondered what their food is like. A handful of my colleagues at work spoke highly of this restaurant and 3 different people told me to try their crab chimichanga which uses real crab meat, evidenced by small pieces of crab shells found while eating. So excited. We arrived at MR shortly before 530pm to have witnessed all parking stalls occupied. One of my friends went to ask the staff if I could park in a marked stall "truck" which was fine. Impressed how all stalls were taken so early. As I walked in, I was in awe of such interesting and colorful decor that gave the restaurant a festive and bright atmosphere. Prior to dining here I read a handful of reviews where it was mentioned chips and salsa are no longer complimentary. The food porn on Yelp's photo gallery showed generous portions so although we were hesitant in ordering a starter, I was tasked to pick something and chose the carne asada fries. I pretty much wanted to try the much anticipated crab chimichanga I've heard so much about but also came across the pescado frito (deep fried fish, catch of the day) served with tortillas, which also got my attention. When our server Jesus advised there's no fish of the day, I asked about my colleague's recommendation of crab chimichanga which I couldn't find in the menu. You knew you were eating seafood but the lobster didn't shine. The accompanying fried beans, Mexican rice and papaya salsa were tasty but perhaps too much starch on a plate. Food was indeed tasty but perhaps I was expecting too much when advertised as lobster. Portions are massive here where we all took leftovers home for another meal. Service was above average. Jesus and the other staff stopped by our table to check up on us, refilled our water glasses and brought carry out containers as we were done. Overall, a memorable first time at MR where I'd be game for a repeat visit. This time I'd like to try their quesadillas as I also enjoy eating this. Or perhaps the pescado frito as I'm a fan of deep fried fish tacos.
