Overall, a fun place to come check out happy hour or a weekend hang! The food - the food was fine, but I thought the quesadilla was quite small and some of the flavors in the enchilada were underwhelming. I wonder if some of this was because they were so busy on a Friday evening evening because the food overall was good just felt like it was rushed. Reservations- we were able to make some on a busy Friday evening a few hours before so I don't think you need reservations, but it would be helpful to have some especially if you're coming on the weekend night Vegetarian friendly ? Yes I think so because they can make a lot of the vegetarian for example, the enchiladas were originally with chicken, but we could set it for without chicken and the quesadilla already with vegetarian. Service - I think these guys are understaffed for how busy they are on Fridays. We never had our water filled and we were never checked on except for when we needed to order something again. First time here and wow, I'm impressed! I'm Mexican so I'm always very picky about Mexican food as it can be a hit or miss in nyc. My date chose this place and suggested these enchiladas and they were absolutely delicious!!! I love mole and this one was both sweet and spicy!! The chicken was perfectly seasoned and cooked. We got chips & guac for starters and it's an authentic guac so no notes there. They have a good selection of cocktails and ordered the watermelon cocktail without the alcohol as I don't drink, and it was so tasty and refreshing!!! Service was phenomenal. All very friendly! Ambiance was nice; not super loud and surprisingly spacious for this area of town. Food was alright; our guac wasn't super flavorful. My bad for forgetting to ask for my Birria tacos without cilantro because it was covered in it which isn't my favorite but I forgot. My parents both got the stuffed peppers not knowing they were green; mom didn't mind but my dad tried to reorder something. Service was not great; attentive at first. They got my husbands drink order wrong and when he mentioned that they didn't say oh our bad and fix it; they sort of denied it and then brought the right one anyway so it turned out it was wrong. Then because of this they stopped attending our table because my dad's food remained untouched and enough time went by it didn't make sense to reorder. When my husband paid we mentioned the meal he didn't touch and tried to get their attention to get it swapped out. He left to try and get it removed for the bill but said he couldn't. The burrito we ordered was packaged in a way that the sauce container was wrapped around it and left a container sized dent in the burrito. The sauce itself was delicious. I came here for my cousins bday last Friday. The hostess was sweet and the restaurant is very spacious. I had the fish tacos and they were soooo good. The steak tacos were also good but I felt like it needed more meat. The elote was delish. I didn't really like the huitaloche (I don't know how to spell it) fried rice it didn't have any flavor. I've been eying Tacuba for a while and hopeful that Hells Kitchen had finally delivered an authentic Mexican restaurant featuring flavorful, mouthwatering food. But, alas, Tacuba is really just another mediocre Mexican restaurant that, while good, is not great! See below for more details. DRINKS: This was the best part of the experience. The margaritas were tasty and priced right (especially for NYC). We tried a few different varieties, and they were all tasty. APPS: We ordered the nachos for the table and added chicken as our protein. The dish was okay, but the portion was smallish for our party of 4, and they just didn't deliver on flavor. ENTRÉES: I had the Carne Asada Tacos (steak tacos) with cheese, which were small for the price. They were tasty enough but certainly not on par with more "authentic" Mexican restaurants outside of Manhattan. My partner, Tony, ordered the Fish Tacos, which, again, were acceptable, but they were nothing to write home about. My other dining companions ordered the Chile Relleno entrée (and one friend added steak as a protein to the dish). Both reported that they liked the dishes, but they were just "okay." ATMOSPHERE: The interior of Tacuba is updated and inviting, but it has no real character. And, I guess, for the "move 'em in and move 'em out" nature of this establishment, that is fine. But you really wouldn't want to bring someone here for a date night. It's really more of a place to bring friends. First time coming here and it was great. What a cool name as it makes you feel like you're not in The Big Apple but you're having awesome food in a classy atmosphere. Located on 9th Avenue between 53rd & 54th Streets everything is good except the parking if you drive from out of the city, but that isn't an issue for me. Make reservations ahead of time because it does get crowded. This recent visit was to celebrate Christmas because my colleague who organized this reservation via OpenTable reserved a table for a party of 6 at 5pm and we ordered enough food and enough adult bevy's. Three of us ordered Carne Asada which was full of flavor and soft meat, very delicious rice which included sliced avocado on top. It also included a nicely warmed tortilla. Awesome dish, not like any other I've had before. I was not dissatisfied coming here, which is why it gets 5 stars from me. It's all about the food, service, and the atmosphere. Came here a few months ago and had a great dinner. My cocktail was great. I'm a little fuzzy about the exact items we ordered, but there were def avocado fries which was my first time ever having. They came with a pretty good dipping sauce. I added my touches and made them better. My date and I shared a variety of tacos. The one that stood out the most was the suadero. Called up the beau and said let's taco this Tuesday. He was on board so we met at the bar for Happy Hour. The strawberry margaritas were light, refreshing and packed a wallop. The bartender was lovely and very accommodating. We decided to stay at the bar and have some tacos. We had the Pescado and Suadero. The fried fish was not crispy but the brisket was tender and flavorful. I will say I like the atmosphere here better than some of the other Mexican restaurants in the neighborhood mainly because of the big bar and spacious dining area. While walking around Hell's Kitchen Yesterday, we decided to stop by Tacuba for some lunch. It was such a pleasant day, that we decided to sit outside. It was around 3:10 when we arrived, we decided to stay for their happy hour at 4. As soon as I saw Ceviche in the menu, I knew that's what I'd be getting. My friend got the tacos. My Ceviche arrived pretty quickly, but this wasn't what I was expecting at all. This is the description from the menu, "Shrimp, octopus, oysters, light tomato sauce, onions, cilantro, avocado" This was 90% tomato sauce, nothing is light about it. This feels like the salsa that I should be eating with chips. Instead I'm eating it with a spoon. The seafood was all very tender and fresh. This was not my favorite Ceviche, due to way too much tomato sauce. My friend liked her tacos, but she said the chicken was a bit dry. When 4:00 clock striked, we wanted to get some margaritas. We got classic, mango and I got Passion Fruit. We also got chips, salsa and guacamole. They only offered these during happy hour. The happy hour margaritas are $14, the regular cost is $18. The margaritas were all very delicious, expensive, and not super strong. The guacamole was also very fresh and tasty. I didn't like the salsa, it looked like tomato soup from a can. Tacuba is a fun looking Mexican Restaurant in Hell's Kitchen, unfortunately I'm a bit disappointed in my Ceviche, while the drinks were tasty, they basically charged regular price for happy hour. read more

Tasty authentic Mexican food in a lively environment. I ordered the Enchiladas de Pollo en Mole ($20), which were classic with a nice presentation. The flavors complemented each other well, with the fresh veggies, savory chicken, and slightly sweet mole sauce. I also tried both the Suadero Tacos ($17) and Carne Asada Tacos with cheese ($18). Both sets of tacos (3 per order) were also classic and tasty. The carne asada tacos had a generous amount of cheese on them (extra $1 for cheese). To drink, I got the Strawberry Frozen Raspados (margarita, $11), which is probably their most popular drink, and for good reason, as it was refreshingly fruity. The prices were pretty reasonable. The interior has a lively atmosphere with dim lighting. There is a bar area and also lots of regular table seating both indoors and outdoors. There is some interesting Mexican themed decor with wooden walls and furniture. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the service speed is decent. Overall, I would highly recommend Tacuba if you are looking for classic Mexican foods and drinks with a lively atmosphere in Hell's Kitchen. read more

Note that this place is definitely more of a bar-scene place; dim lit and lively ambiance. Ordered the carne asada tacos with cheese and they were suuuuper yummy! We often had to wait to get their attention and water was not refilled while they chatted amongst each other. Thankfully the host (young girl) saw us and called the waiter a few times. The drink menu was extensive and they will make any drink without alcohol. I ordered a virgin La Sandia and was pleasantly surprised by how delicious it was. I love watermelon so this was the best recommendation from the server. The servers were so nice and attentive from replacing our plates with new ones to offering to move things out of the way etc. We had an awesome time. What we ordered: Guacamole and chips, a must at any Mexican restaurant. The guac had a slight kick and the orange sauce that came with it was fire. Tostado de pulpo is amazing. I would come back just to have 5 of these because it was so good. Add some lime and the tostado is bursting with flavors. 10/10 recommend. Calle de hacha was so creamy. Sea scallops cooked to perfection and another great dish to share. Molcajete with the steak, chicken, shrimp, cactus and cheese, yummm. There were so many ingredients in this bowl melded together that tasted so good together. Finally, we ordered the Birria con consume and although it was messy to eat, it was delicious. Omgosh. I've been here a handful of times and it has always been uhmmkay. But today, wow. Started with Guacamole and it was nothing but SMASH AVOCADO WITH 5 pcs of tiny tomatoes on top. Not even salt, no cilantro, onion or lime!!! Tasteless. Ordered fish tacos and it came at a descent portion, same thing with the beer battered fish- it was so tasteless and bland.
