However, it took the restaurant over an hour to prepare my food even when it said the delivery time was 30-40 minutes. When I received my food it was cold. Love this place! Been here twice and it's been very consistent. This definitely isn't a place to go if you're in a rush though. It's small and it gets busy. There are not a lot of wait staff, especially when there are tables outside as well. The first time I went I felt the waiter could've been a little more personable even though we told him it was our first time there. He didn't recommend anything etc but the food was wonderful nonetheless. Our second waiter was wonderful and attentive. My favorite roll is the Hot Spring and be sure to add mango! Gives it just a hint of sweetness. Also the Red Tower is amazing but definitely needs to be a little bigger. It's barely enough for 2 people to share and enjoy. Note: Before you start reading, this is not a sushi review. If you want to read about sushi, I'm sure there are (or will be) plenty of other reviews talking to death about the quality of the "toro" and how exciting or boring the different rolls are. And that's fine and all because A) this is Yelp and B) this is a sushi restaurant. But, I dunno, call me a nonconformist. I don't always judge a restaurant simply on what 99% of everyone else is ordering. Let's start with what Tadashi is. It's an upscale-looking sushi restaurant in the Hill Country galleria, located next the movie theater. It is also a sister restaurant to the fellow sushi-ya "Izumi" in Westlake. I went to Tadashi on their soft opening Friday and tried four of their hot dishes: The salmon collar, the homemade gyoza, the grilled eggplant, and the fried tofu. This, to me, is exciting because I love a sushi restaurant willing to take a chance. (And, yes, I know that most folks are probably not going to order off the hot menu ever, but they absolutely should because the food is very good.) I was impressed with all the dishes I tried that night, but the salmon collar (a rarity in Austin, but quite common in Japan) and the homemade gyoza were really stuck out. The tofu, a carryover from Izumi, has great consistency and really goes well with a beer. Overall, I think this place will be a nice addition to the area. It's a swanky spot to grab a bite and/or drink and, unlike many other sushi restaurants in Austin, you'll actually want to order off the hot menu for a change. Give it a shot. read more

I've been to Tadashi maybe 3 times in the past year and have been happy each time. Generally our after work sushi happy hours in Lakeway consist of rolls and wine at Cho, so I was happy to have something different for a change. The interior of the restaurant is attractive and slightly modern and if you sit by the window, you can watch the movie goers walk by (thrilling, right?). I checked in and got a free edamame appetizer. It was simple and lightly salted. There are about 5 drinks on happy hour and I believe one was a hot sake and another was a cold sake. Then they also had one beer and a red and white wine option. I'm a fan of sake, so I went with the hot sake. The menu doesn't specify what kind of sake it was, but it was tasty and only $4 for a carafe. The rolls on happy hour are the standard philly, spicy, etc. Generally if I go to a sushi restaurant, I don't really want to order one of the standard rolls that I could get at the grocery store. Although it wasn't on happy hour, I went ahead and ordered the Red hill tower. It was just a tuna tower, like you can get at certain other sushi restaurants. So delicious! We also ordered an Egyptian roll to share. It was crab, avocado, masago, topped with more crab, and wasabi cream sauce. It was wrapped in what looked like soy paper, but it was pink for some reason. Whatever it was, it was fantastic. Lastly we had a small plate of cold tuna, goat cheese, and yam chips. It was drizzled in some sort of sweet chilli sauce. Just wow. Tadashi has really set itself apart from other west Austin/Bee Cave sushi destinations by providing actual "creations"to compliment the standards of sashimi and nigiri of their top level fish/shellfish. The ultimate presentation was the soft shell crab served in a light tempura batter brought to the table literally standing up on the plate, amid looked like a candelabra! Light sweet and fresh, it really didn't even need to be dipped in the accompanying sauce. Great food! Below average service. Brought out appetizers after entrees, never brought plates to eat off of, never refilled wine, did not clear the table, had to ask for the bill twice. I don't recommend eating gas station pizza or airport Chinese food. When I was convinced to join my co-workers to a sushi joint at the mall, my food genre/location concerns were activated. With the promise of a good looking lunch special, we went. Wow I've eaten at Thai Fresh, Cho and this new place in Lakeway called Sakura... all underwhelming. It's not that their food is bad, it's just never struck me as particularly fresh and the value is rarely there. Tadashi isn't in the same league at all. Their fish was exceptionally fresh, the lunch specials are a better value than all of the other places in Lakeway and the staff is truly awesome. We have a couple servers that know our lunch group and we are treated well consistently. Even when they are slammed, they do their best. $11 will get you a bowl of soup, 3 tempura roll pieces, 5 pieces of assorted Nigri and a full roll. it's filling and great quality. They have other options, but that's what we always seem to get. Our office has a new "Tadashi Thursday" tradition. read more

Quick take: the food is overall good but some of the rolls are a bit odd. We came here before going to see a movie next door at the Cinemark and selected 4 rolls and eventually got 5 rolls (we were hungry!) Hot Spring - Not my favorite roll. The portion was large but the flavor was kinda bland and it sat in a faux hot sauce soup kinda arrangement which was not at all spicy. Just overally a weird dish. Surf and Turf - Better than the Hot Spring and the raspberry sauce was nice on the roll Volcano - Not bad---but not a roll I would order again. The cheese topping fused the rolls together and it was kind of a pain to eat because of this. Maybe it could use more spice in the roll for something named Volcano? American - My favorite roll. Not everyone likes cream cheese in a hot roll but I happen to enjoy it and this was one of the best cream cheese rolls I have ever had. Rainforest - Good roll! my wife and I both really liked this one The service was good and drinks were refilled promptly and neither of us felt rushed to free up a table. What? There's something worth eating at the Hill Country Galleria? And it's...sushi? Yup, sometimes truth is stranger than fiction. Some friends guided us to this overlooked gem in the mall. Truth be told, we've probably been past it three dozen times and never realized it was there. Food is typical Asian fusion; you've got your bento boxes, some rolls, and sushi. All of it is executed at a very high level, with a special nod to the crispy rice appetizer. It was one of the most well executed apps I've had in a long time, great flavor, temperature, and textural contrast! The miso soup was also skillfully executed, they nailed just the right amount of salinity. The salmon collar was a completely new dish for me, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it had a texture similar to pot roast! I don't have any basis of comparison, but I liked it quite a bit! We only tried one roll, the mango roll...it was deliciously light, like a salad wrapped up in one roll. I'm told the Hot Angel roll is incredible, I'll make note to try it next time around. As other yelpers have noted, the service is impeccable. Some of the most friendly, down-to-Earth servers I've ever encountered. They all had such an easy rapport, you would think we had been small town friends forever. Tadashi is really, really impressive. So much so that we bought a gift card on our very first visit. I'm new to the Austin area and have been looking for good sushi that isn't too far away. This will be my go-to place, unless I find something better. The quality of the fish here is excellent. I have had sashimi, rolls, and edamame. Everything that I tasted was delicious! The service can be a bit slow, even though it was not particularly busy either time that I came. In the beginning, the service was terrible. We would stand by the door for quite a while before someone sat us. Then we would wait another 15 minutes for our server. I think that was just growing pains, though! Now the servers are awesome!! They are really on their game and they're always so kind and attentive. We mixed it up and started ordering some different things on the menu and we've been so pleased the last few visits. It really is great quality. There aren't many rolls that I love on the menu, but that's OK because they make it up with their other unique menu items. Also, amazing wine and sake menu! We have been going to Tadashi more often nowadays. We even hosted a small lunch birthday celebration for our daughter and her friends there just over the weekend. They liked the spicy edamame a lot and especially enjoyed all the yakitoris. We ordered double dishes of chicken, pork & ribeyes for them. This restaurant has really grown on me. The servers are very nice and responsive. Even the sashimi has improved, with thicker cuts and fresh tasting. The Seabass was super delicious the last time I ordered it. All in all, we are enjoying Tadashi sushi more and will be coming back often. :) read more

Im so conflicted. I met a client for lunch at Tadashi once and it was a 4 star experience. Nice people and atmosphere, pretty good sushi on the lunch menu. I asked my husband to meet me there one night for some Sushi closer to home since we were both tired and I remembered it had been pretty good that one time. The Wild Game Gyoza was AMAZING, genuinely delicious!!! Good texture, good flavor- very impressed. Unfortunately everything from there was just .... not right. We got 4 rolls and each one just had something off about it. Golden Gate| shrimp tempura, avocado, cucumber, cabbage, masago, scallions, topped with mayo and eel sauce -- Sounds good right? Well it was very showy and hard to eat but the cabbagy mayo mess was decently tasty. Unfortunately the roll overall tasty a little funky. Maybe the shrimp was not right? Tempura | avocado, cucumber, eel sauce, choice of shrimp, cajun, unagi, or kanikama -- once again maybe its their shrimp- this one just didnt taste good. And then we had two on special i dont see on the online menu that both had this bizarre perfumey taste, Rose Water would be far more subtle than whatever this was and it was in EVERYTHING on the rolls- the baslamic glaze, the rice, the mango.... It literally crossed our minds that someone may have sprayed perfume all over the dish haha I dont know I feel really bad about giving a bad review but nothing is more sad than WONDERFUL culinary ideas being executed poorly. My hope is maybe they keep the menu the same but change the recipes within the menu. I loved the ideas, just not the final products. read more

Totally overpriced based on the quality of the food and the pretty awful service. The service, or lack thereof, is what brings this down from a three star to a two. Food was outstanding. We had gyoza, popcorn shrimp, galbi ribs and 2 x tonkatsu ramen. One of the ramens had items present that were specifically requested to be removed. Service was sub-par and too bad this is starting to become the norm for Austin. Helpful hints to waitstaff: 1. Try to greet and help seated customers within first 10 minutes - at least bring water. Customers should not be able to be seated, review menu, use restroom, review menu, review menu again, wonder why 4 tables around me have been attended to, hope someone realizes our family is seated for dinner, all before being greeted and offered water (see number 2.) 2. When finally bringing water, try to attempt to not pound water on table and throw lemon across table. If unable to complete this maneuver, best to acknowledge mistake and apologize for lemon error. Maybe even remove lemon, now that it has slid across table. 3. Don't stand on customer foot while taking order 4. Have your notepad before approaching table. If you forget, don't let table place half of orders and then mention you need notepad and then make us all start over. 5. If kitchen closes 30 minutes before restaurant closes, alert table prior, give last call. If you have new COVID hours, assume some may not know because not all marketing material and online sites have been updated. 6. Never ever touch customer's wallet on table. 7. Don't lose my credit card. 7a. Auxiliary rule - don't do anything to cause additional 25 minutes delay after we've expressed interest to pay and leave. read more

Not a bad sushi spot. There happy hour menu is pretty sweet. The have unique presentation for some of the dry saki. It's served in a shot glass which is in a small wooden box filled with saki. I enjoyed that! The sushi is really good quality as well. Not quite 5 star but pretty damn close. Going to try a lot more items before I really form an opinion. So far so good! read more

Recently I had the worst experience I think I have ever had at a restaurant. I am a huge Yelp fan, and I am only posting because this place is tagged as 4 stars. Three of us came for dinner, we were told the wait was 15-20 minutes. All three of us have worked in restaurants for years, and we know things happen! But we came inside at 45 minutes because it was too hot to keep shopping at the boutiques. We sat at the bar, it was hotter inside than being outside. The waitress at the bar was complaining in front of us that nothing was prepared at the bar. We finally sat down, we saw our server walk around, LOOKED at us and didn't acknowledge us at all. He saw a dirty table walked up to it and turned around and said "NO". First of all, when there's a wait, CLEAR THE TABLES. Then 5 minutes go by and still no server, not a single word. they're all walking around busy and completely ignoring us. At 10 minutes, I went up to the manager and told him we needed to be greeted. He said he was sending someone right away. The guy came over, asked for our order, and we wanted to put in apps right away because we were there over an hour. No refill on our water (we got water from the BAR), never came back for our entree order! 10 minutes after that still no one, he never put in the appetizer. I called another sushi restaurant 10 minutes away, no wait and we told them the situation so they said they would take care of us immediately. I walked out and the manager went up to the girls as they were getting out and there was no way to convince us to stay. I ONLY give 2 stars because I had dinner here 2 years ago with a group of 15 and it was much better service than anyone working this time. read more

The service was friendly, my only complaint was that it felt like whenever someone came to drop something off at our table, they just kind of threw it down in front of us. My husband brought me here for our wedding anniversary. He had a reservation but a table was not ready for us on time. We waited about 10 minutes and the table they wanted to put us at was behind the hostess station cramped in the corner at a high-top table for two. Not only would I not feel comfortable in this location, we are avid sushi-lovers and enjoy taking our time, relaxing, and ordering multiple plates (especially on such a special occasion). I explained that it was our anniversary and they said we could wait for another table. It was another 15 minutes before they had another table for us (they continued to seat other walk-ins a nice tables like booths) and the table they showed us to was right by the door (it was freezing that night). I was not happy, I was hangry by the point, and the delay was burning into my babysitter's time so we just took that table. The food was delicious. I wished we could have tried everything on the menu. The prices weren't too bad either and the quality of fish was very good. The service was slow, though. Our waiter went missing multiple times. He was nice though and gave us samples of sake because we weren't sure which ones we wanted to order. I thought that was a nice touch of exceptional customer service. We'll be back. read more

Amazing flavor here...we tried their veggie sushi, teriyaki tofu and the spicy chicken bulgogi.being a spicy/hot food connoisseur, my tastebuds were more than content trying their bulgogi. The teriyaki tofu was cooked to perfection as well with a crisp cover and an ultra soft inside. My preferred sushi in the area. Only the price prohibits my giving a 5 star rating. But, it's apparently worth the price as I'm a regular. They boast a comprehensive menu and accommodate substitutions. I always have the spicy edamame and an "Awesome Blossom" roll. Then rotate through accompanying rolls. I didn't find tadashi all that impressive. My miso and seaweed salad were good but the rolls were just ok. Much like any strip mall sushi I just feel like it caters to the middle of the road sushi experience without much concern for authenticity or japanese flair for freshness. My meal wasn't horrible mind you but what stands out? I had my usual spicy tuna roll, a california and a special roll our waitress recommended that was wrapped in daikon. I didn't enjoy that one at all. I prefer rice but why not try something different. There wasn't much about the place that stood out to me. read more

Pleasant surprise. First time diner. The atmosphere was calm and warm; so was the sake. Sashimi was flavorful and generous.
