Beef slices with fat cooked fries

Absolutely love Uchiko! My boyfriend and I first visited Uchiba earlier this year, and this time, decided to use a Resy credit at Uchiko and partake in their omakase special. After a discussion with the waitress upon being seated, we were able to clarify a request for my omakase to be vegetarian. My bf was able to partake in a little bit more food, but I was solely satisfied with the dishes I got, even when I shared it with my bf. The meat dishes that my bf got that I couldn't have were: - Beef slices with fat-cooked fries (I don't see why the fries had to be cooked in fat, but oh well) - some individual fish-based sushi pieces - poke crackers - shrimp skewers The veggie dishes I got to have included: - mushroom vegetable rolls with a sweet sticky sauce - sticky rice donburi style dish topped with greens and mushrooms soaked in soy sauce - avocado nigiri pieces - veggie roll with mango sauce - thinly-sliced mushroom - tempura kabocha squash - cold black sesame soba noodles Dessert was a delicious ice cream sandwich and a unique dessert that had a graham-cracker-like crust, cream, and topped with cilantro-flavored crushed ice and pineapple topping. We came at happy hour (4-6pm) and omakase was only $60 per person. And with the Resy credit, we got $100 off---an absolute gem of a deal! Our waitress was super friendly and really helpful in making sure I had delicious vegetarian options. Can't wait to come back!

It's been so long since I've returned to this place, and honestly it's still a gem. They have a happy hour from 4:30-6. We booked a reservation the day before and chose the happy hour omakase. It's about 9 courses. Everything came out fairly quick. The omakase is for 2 people but we're able to accommodate for 3. For whatever reason the first and last dish were different, I guess due to the portion. Everything was enjoyable but I honestly wasn't a fan of their steak. It has a charcoal rub all over which makes it taste burnt to me. Everything else was great. I do think you might be able to get more à la carte than the omakase though, but it's nice not to have to think about what to pick.

Everything was great from start to finish! All the fish was fresh and had great, different flavors. The hot stone wagyu was also tender and melts in your mouth. One of my favorite dessert in all of Austin is the fried milk. I'd go to Uchiko and its sister restaurants just for this dessert. Drinks were great also!

I made reservations at Uchiko to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. When we were led to our seats at the sushi bar, we were pleasantly surprised with a "Happy Birthday" sign waiting at our seats. My boyfriend was really touched, and we felt it was a very thoughtful gesture from the staff. We arrived just in time for the happy hour omakase. Feeling adventurous, we chose the nine-course tasting menu for two. Our chef was very accommodating and asked if we had any allergies or time constraints. The pacing of the dishes was perfect and never felt rushed. We even ordered a few extra dishes and drinks on the side to enjoy between courses, and everything we tried was delicious. In total, we dined for about 1.5 hours. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience at Uchiko. The atmosphere was lively and inviting, and the service was fantastic from start to finish. The staff was extremely attentive and checked in on us frequently. Special shoutout to Max! He was very friendly, knowledgeable, and helped make the entire experience outstanding.

Came here just for the dessert after an all you can eat experience next door at sushi warriors and this dessert never disappoints! I still standby the fact that the milk and cereal is the best dessert in Austin.

Solid Omakase. They say it's a 10 course on the menu but every time we go I feel like we always get more courses than they claim.

Amazing ambiance and high quality fish. Great omakase experience My favorite were - bluefin otoro - uni (Hokkaido uni, very fresh and no fishiness or over saltiness at all) - the milk and cereal dessert Stuff that I would not order again: (not special enough in my opinion) - the hot stone - the clay pot with mushrooms

Made reservations for a Saturday for happy hour. Got a seat pretty quickly in the dining room. The restaurant itself is dim but enough light to see what is going on. The waiter was amazing and nice. Making use of our time, we got our food and even threw in some extra due to some mistakes and delays. The gyudon was on the small side and not worth the 14 dollars, so don't get it. It was also very salty. The ham and egg was great but kind of dry. The sushi was fresh and delicious. A little mix-up with what the market fish was, so the waiter comped 2 pieces. Milk and cereal was a good way to end the meal. Fried milk and the ice cream. Hot and cold, and the crunch of the cereal makes a good pairing.

This was the first time my friends and I dined at Uchiko. To say it was a great experience would be an understatement. Every dish and roll is prepared to perfection. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and you can tell they love the food they are serving. If you are wanting a cool and sexy atmosphere. Definitely take a stop and indulge your senses. I wish I took more photos, but these are the ones I remembered to take. We ate so much food.

Beyond wonderful experience at Uchiko! The valet was super convenient. Highly recommend making a reservation beforehand because it does get packed even on weekdays. We enjoyed the tasting menu which is designed to be shared with another person. We also added some items and were very filling. The cocktails and sake were also incredible. We had a large group of 10 and the service was perfect.

Ask the Community - Uchiko Austin

    How much is the omakase?

It varies based on what they select for you. $150 is a good rule of thumb. You can always suggest a cap. At happy hour, a smaller sampling is closer to $75, again based on what they send out.

Is happy hour only in the bar or can you order from the happy hour menu at a table?

    At the table too!

    Do they do anniversary desserts?

    Yes

I see that on the take-out menu, the omakase is for 2. If dining in, is it possible to get omakase for one?

Can I find out which options are no rice options? My husband can't have rice right now so I'm looking for meat/veggie options that are grain free.

Uchi and Uchiko rotate their menus daily and are highly responsive to personalization/requests at the table. For reference, most of Uchiko's hot tastings and nearly all of their cool tastings do not use rice. Most fish can be ordered as sashimi…

Are walk ins still welcome during covid on a weekend?

Do they have shabu shabu here?

No hot pots at the tables. Closest thing is the dish with the Kobe beef you cook on the hot rock.

Want to get give as a gift... roughly how much would dinner for 4 cost? thanks

Happy hour (sake social) including drinks: $80-120 per person. Not happy hour, $150 per person if consuming alcohol. Plus tip.

The standout was the shrimp pancake that had a really great texture and flavor. The snow crab ball had a strange texture with shrimp surrounding the snow crab claw. The Chinese Sticky Rice is always a favorite. Also ordered the Truffle Egg Fried rice and Birds Nest with Seasonal Vegetable. The Truffle rice is so flavorful like a flavor explosion in your mouth. The Birds Nest is made with fried potato shreds which contain the a variety of vegetables including cauliflower, peppers, mushrooms and asparagus. The nest is also edible and has a crunchy texture. The presentation of the food is amazing and everything came out hot and fresh. The flavors were on point, and you can tell there's attention to detail in the preparation. Service was attentive outdoors and the pacing of dishes felt just right for a relaxed brunch. This restaurant is truly a gem whether you come for brunch or dinner service. Will definitely be back.

The place reminded me of Ling Wu in the Grove area because the decor looked similar. Maybe they are owned by the same people? Firstly, I was impressed with the fact they had a FREE parking garage nearby since this is in the downtown area and next to Whole Foods. It took me a bit to find it as I'm directionally challenged, but I did and was just running a bit late. We really enjoyed the food and cocktails. I got the Singaporean noodles, a mezcal drink, and a sake. The serving size was big so I had plenty to take home. We shared many of the other dumplings and dim sum items. Everything was very good! The place wasn't too crowded so after we paid our bill we sat around for a while longer to chat and catch up. Usually someone would come by to see if we needed or wanted anything further, but no one did so we kept chatting and left. I'm happy to know of a central location with easy parking as a future place to meet people. I wish they had a happy hour because the bill for 3 of us was unexpectedly higher than usual.

Someone recently asked me where my favorite steak was, and I struggled to come up with an answer. Not anymore. It's here. We tried several dishes, and almost everything was a total hit. The only thing I might skip next time is the taiyaki cornbread, maybe. Let's start with the absolute standout: the wagyu short rib skewer. It's sous vide for 48 hours, and I am not exaggerating when I say it was the best meat I have ever had. Ever. If you only order one thing, make it that. Now, let's keep going because it's all great stuff and you need to know what to order. Second place is the chili cheese takoyaki. Don't overthink it, just order it and thank me later. The Hot Pocketz come in third. Not quite as mind blowing as the wagyu, but still a must order. Last on my list was the chashu pork belly, which is still really good, just competing with absolute heavy hitters. I was stuffed and had to order it to go, but If you have room for dessert, the banana pudding is worth it. For drinks, my husband had 2 different sakes and some Japanese whiskey and really liked them. And the decor deserves its own mention, it's like Cracker Barrel meets sexy Japan in the best possible way. It's fun, a little chaotic, and totally unforgettable. And shoutout to Yoshi, our server, who made the whole experience even better. He helped steer us toward the best dishes. Our bill at the end of the night was $88, not bad for all that we ordered. A few tips: make a reservation, ask for Yoshi if you can, and go early because parking is a real pain. Most importantly, get the wagyu short rib skewer.

Pork Belly Bowl ($16 individually, 8/10) - Soy hoisin base, really delicious and juicy, kind of Thai flavored - Pungent flavor and aroma that mixed really well with the side sauce - Rice itself was super flavorful, and a side of veggies Crunchy Cabbage Salad ($11.5, 7/10) - Shredded cabbage with a mayo based sauce and crunchy nuts on top that complemented everything well - Light salad, not too heavy, didn't leave you overly full - Good balance to pair with the richer pork belly bowl Overall, this Loro location was fantastic. Their current deal for two bowls and a salad is a great value and easy to share with another person. Definitely will be back to try their other meats and the brisket!
