We decided to try this spot for date night. We arrived just after 8pm on a Friday night and were seated right away. My first disappointment is they only serve beer, wine and sake. I really like a nice martini or specialty drink with sushi. Our waiter was very attentive and the manager was visibly involved in checking on patrons. I am not sure why since it did not seem to be overly busy, but it took our sushi rolls a really long time to come out. The waiter was diligent about checking for them, but it did not seem to help them come out any faster. I am giving the benefit of the doubt that this was a fluke and will give them another shot. When we did get the rolls, they were delicious and very unique. I liked the surf and turf roll- it was something different and the raspberry sauce complimented the spice well. Tadashi has a great atmosphere and I enjoyed our meal. It is very conveniently located next to the movie theater where we headed after dinner. There is definitely room for improvement, so hopefully next time we will have our food out more quickly. read more

Second time around. First time I was majorly disappointed. My wife was recently there and liked it so I tried again. Up to pretty good. The Hamachi was watery but the Fatty Salmon was delicious. The Uni was pretty good - not as sweet as I have had, and the Unagi was good but the sauce was a bit too sweet. ... I will try again sometime. read more

My office goes to Tadashi every Monday for lunch, their sushi and bento boxes are pretty good! its super clean and the servers are friendly and helpful. However, on numerous occasions, I've asked for sushi with no imitation crab, since I'm allergic to it. Yet every time, my food seem to come out with it. Its not the servers fault I see them write it down, i just think that the chef's need to be more aware of people with food allergies. For a restaurant with so many great reviews and very good food, its a shame I have to limit my visits there for fear of getting sick. read more

We love this place!! The rolls are fresh and amazing and they are willing to accommodate any changes. The soft shell crab is to die for. I'm super picky on Salmon and theirs taste so fresh! Do NOT recommend at all. We should have known with the highly disorganized check in process that this wasn't going to be the best experience. Service was just okay, rather slow. The portions for the price were incredibly small. My son's ramen with chicken looked like it just came out of the microwave. Taste of the bento boxes was good but within an hour both my wife and I were having stomach problems and needing the restroom. My wife and I went on a Thursday night and I thought the whole experience was really good. 4 stars when compared to the really amazing sushi spots downtown but probably worth a 5 star rating when considering options outside of downtown Austin. We found the rolls to be melt in your mouth good. Fish quality was excellent, rice was cooked perfect. Our server was really knowledgable and friendly. We got the chirashi, three types of nigiri and the salmon collar for our meal. The fish for the nigiri was pretty fresh and good quality. However the rice was pretty flavorless and had way too much wasabi between it and the fish. The chirashi only had three kinds of fish and they were cut a little too thin for a chirashi bowl. The rice really didn't go well with it. Also they paired the bowl with more Korean style pickled vegetables as oppose to Japanese style. More like a hoedeopbap minus the hot sauce. Long wait, slow service, disappointing food, and overpriced. It was cold outside, but we were offered an outside table with heaters. We decided to take the table because we were assured there were heaters outside to keep us warm. When we were seated, the heaters would not work. We asked for a table inside but the manager said he would fix the heaters for us. We had to get up twice to remind the staff the heaters needed to be fixed. Took about 30 minutes before they were able to fix it. Then we waited for another 45 minutes for our food. After asking our server twice for a bowl of rice, I had to get up and stand by the kitchen until I could get a bowel of rice. By the time we got the rice, the rest of our food was cold. I had also ordered bacon wrapped shrimp but they brought out bacon wrapped asparagus. I hate asparagus. This was such a terrible dining experience and the food was not worth the price. Hands down the worst dining experience ever at a sushi restaurant or otherwise. We were a table of 7 and they sat us behind the host stand then we waited 30 mins for anyone to acknowledge we were there we had to way people down. Then there was the the food mess ups, ordered edamame they forgot it then they keep forgetting all of the sushi plates we had to ask for ginger and wasabi and soy sauce they never refilled or drinks during the meal and we had a different person bring food to the table every time so we had no way to follow up with where the rest of our food was. The quality was just ok not bad but not any better than what you can get at whole foods or HEB. I would not waste my time on this place save your money or go elsewhere! read more

Thank goodness for great food and all around prompt service. I used to go to CHO in Lakeway until I discovered Tadashi. The owner Shawn is very welcoming and runs the business on a more personal level, which makes the experience that much better. The service team is knowledgeable and work as a whole when possible than just individually. Happy hour is a slam dunk and miso soup is a great hangover cure ! The pork belly melts like butter, the fish is so fresh it's made me a lover of sashimi. I'll be returning soon . read more

"NO, SOUP FOR YOU!!" Please take note of the review below in quotes. I wrote that review right before picking up my lunch to-go and I gave them a glowing review and 5 stars. THEN I picked up my lunch and the Manager (who was obviously somewhat busy) did not give me my miso soup. I asked him for it and he kind of mumbled around about it being for "dine in only." I wanted to ask why he was lying since I have probably picked up lunch to go there at least 10 times by now WITH soup each time... without ever once asking for it because it comes with ALL the lunch specials. But instead I thought I would just come back to Yelp and update my previous review, and enjoy a reduced sodium day. Let this be a lesson that being lazy is never useful and quite annoying to what used to be one of your best new clients. Looks like my buddies at Cho will be seeing again after all... they always give me my soup. ;-) ""I have eaten at Tadashi at least 20 plus times now! As a young adult in the Trying Twenties, my going out funds are limited. However, the atmosphere was so cool, and the staff so welcoming that when my sister and I stopped by to peruse the menu, we had to stay. The entree's were out of our price range, but they offer several small plate appetizers, so we figured we could cobble a meal together out of that. But as we were led to our seat, I spied one of the bento boxes, which had initially tempted me inside. It looked big enough to share, so, we ordered a salmon teriyaki one to split. With it's numerous sides, we figured we'd try splitting it and go from there if we needed more. It should be big enough. Boy, were we right. The salmon was cooked to perfection, the best I've had outside of Hawaii (where they eat it for breakfast), and the gyoza was some of the best I've ever had. I'm usually not a fan of miso soup, but this stuff was something else. And since we were splitting the bento box, they gave us two portions of soup for the price of one, which was very nice of them, since it was delicious. The service was alright, no real complaints. They left us alone for the most part, which I like, but were there when we needed them. At times it felt like we had three waiters all willing to cater to our every request, at others, we might have been all by ourselves to talk and gossip. But personally, I like it when the servers aren't overly intrusive (read: hovering), so it was right up my ally. It's three days later, and I still can't stop thinking about it. I would go back in a heart beat for that salmon. It is the quintessential Japanese food, light enough that you feel healthy even after eating a lot of it. Today I had lunch at Tadashi. I ordered the Sushi A combo ($11) which came with a bowl of miso soup, 5 pieces of Nigiri sushi, a tuna roll, and a 'daily roll'. I'm sad to say my overall experience was not good. Quality sushi rice is the hallmark of a good sushi bar and Japanese restaurant. Hands down the rice was poorly cooked and lacked any flavor. Some of it was mushy while some pieces too hard. Freshness is also a standard indicator but the seaweed around the tuna roll tasted like it had either been premade (as in not made when I ordered it), made on a wet cutting board, or the seaweed wrapper was not kept fresh. The 'daily roll' was done tempura style and once again, not done correctly. The batter was undercooked, under seasoned, and not representative of true Japanese tempura batter. The fish itself was average and basically fresh, but not excellent by any stretch. This is a typical American owned Japanese restaurant led by a Korean chef. If you are the standard American sushi goer, and don't have high expectations or experience with true Japanese cuisine, you will probably be ok with Tadashi. Personally I have a high expectation for the simple things, like rice being cooked and seasoned properly, seaweed being fresh, and at least some level of creativity in presentation. If you are an experienced sushi fan and know what good sushi is I recommend your experiment with this establishment be limited to placing a single or small initial order. I will give credit where credit is due. The environment is open and clean. The manager on the floor and the wait staff were very nice. Although they were in the 'weeds', and the meal took too long to come out, the wait staff appeared to be hustling and doing their best with a smile on their face. I was especially appreciative of the manager asking my feedback and then graciously accepting what I had to say. Although the manager and wait staff did a nice job of conducting themselves I cannot say the same thing about the owner. Toward the end of my lunch he personally ruined what was already a below average meal by verbally engaging a fish sales rep, alongside his 'head chef', in a very disrespectful manner with me sitting clearly only steps away. The calm and pleasant environment was dashed by his unprofessional conduct that should have been handled behind a closed door to avoid embarrassing himself and his staff. read more

Tadashi Sushi a what I would consider "fair" sushi at a high end price.I would say that most of there sushi is lacking flavor. It seems they have spent more time focusing on the "plating" rather than the actual taste of the roll itself. The inside ambience is nice & welcoming when you walk in. Service was about par for this area but the staff is not very well versed over the menu.Our waitress in particular could have "freshened up" before approaching the table after her cigarette break. For the quality on roll you get it should be priced closer to "how do you roll" in Austin and definitely not at the price point of the other higher end sushi restaurants in Austin. Just one mans opinion but if your looking for quality sushi with matching service Cho Sushi is the only answer in this area. read more

I don't usually write these reviews unless I am very unimpressed and it's worth telling y'all! I have frequented Tadashi on several occasions and everytime I think why are we spending over $20 for a bento box...BUT tonight put our entire table over the edge! We had 4 people, ALL expecting to have dinner together...but all our food was brought out at 4 different times. When the first 2 meals came out they were cold, then mine came out (luke warm) and then we waited another 10 min for the 4th meal. We sent back the 2 first meals because they were cold, and when we told the waiter they were cold "he looked confused...I said, well we have been waiting and now these 2 meals are cold"...and he responded, well WHY did you wait? WELL...we all came to dinner together and expected to eat together! I mean REALLY?????!!!! While the 2 waited for their dinner (one being a 6 year old starving), they never offered to bring something to eat in the meantime...this was like another 10 min. THEN they brought out the 2 meals separately and the 1 meal was still cold...! For spending over $100 for dinner, we came here for the LAST time. Too bad, since I am on a local facebook group, and people are always looking for sushi places...I will NOT be recommending this place!!!! Not a fan anymore! read more

Received a postcard invitation in the mail to try out their lunch specials. Took my wife & son today and arrived just after 12 noon. It was a warm day, about 90 degrees outside. Upon entering, we immediately noticed how warm it was INSIDE. At the counter, where you normally can view all the fish, the glass was covered in condensation (that tells you how warm it was in there). Anyway, after sitting for about 10 minutes without wait staff acknowledgment or water, we decided this was going nowhere fast and left for a cooler restaurant with friendly helpful staff. We walked down to All Star Burger where the AC worked and were eating inside of 10 minutes. Slow service and a hot restaurant during lunch when folks have a limited time window is not the way to earn patronage. I really wanted to try Tadashi, but will return to Bon Sushi in Lakeway for awesome sashimi. read more

Would have been 4 stars for food and service, but we were seated next to the station that holds the make ready items for new tables (napkins, chopsticks, etc). At one point during our meal, a busboy/runner came to get new sets for a table. He dropped one of the chopsticks on the floor...picked it up...and kept right on going. I saw him place it on a table. Gross!! Our server was excellent but extremely harried - we had to ask for several things (placing our drink order, a missing appetizer, our final sushi roll). We were never asked if we wanted a second round of drinks. The place is not all that big so it was surprising she was so swamped. Overall sushi was good with some interesting rolls but the chopstick incident makes me queasy, especially in a sushi restaurant. read more

I asked for a refund after the disrespect. I have also dined in at Tadashi, and my entire table got their food 10-15 minutes apart, and our server failed to visit our table unless food was being delivered. i would recommend better staff training.. read more
