Needed to take the ferry to Vashon Island for the Yelp Passport to Vashon event, but couldn't find…read moremuch on the process of how to take the ferry because even though the website tells you which locations you can make a reservation on, it doesn't tell you what to expect. I'm new to Washington, so I had a little anxiety about this since I didn't know what I was doing. All I knew from our Yelp manager was to get there early because a ferry was involved, and that meant waiting to board a ship. So what I did was plug the address to the event location into the GPS and it led us straight to the pay booth. You will pay about $20 for your car to get on the ferry and $6 per person in the vehicle. That price is for a round trip fee. Driving on, we saw people parked on the right side and we assumed this is where we wait to load the boat. There were four lanes to load, but they fill up from right to left which helped to ensure a first come first serve order to the proceedings. Some people got out of their cars and walked their dogs around the parking lot. That was fine because it was easy to see where the ferry was on the water so you wouldn't have to scramble back to load. It took the ferry quite a while to return. We found out later that it was because there were a few large delivery trucks on board, so it might have been dicey loading them. We got on board and like all the tourists, and the deck hands showed us which line to get into (I realized that they can't just let you load by filling up the lines because the weight has to be evenly distributed on the boat, even during the load, so don't worry that someone is going to be able to get off the boat in front of you when they were originally behind you- the crew knows what they're doing). We then got out of the car and headed to the observation deck for the view. The locals stayed in their cars, knowing that this would be a quick ride on and off. As soon as we docked, the deck hands sorted us out and directed who got to leave first. From there it was follow the GPS to your destination. You can ride the ferry as just a passenger but I'm so grateful we took our car. It looks like if you're waiting for an Uber, you'll be waiting for awhile, so having a car is necessary to get around the island.

The ferry ride itself continues to be one of the most iconic travel experiences in the Seattle area. Seattle skyline, Mount Rainier, and the surrounding islands we were able to see so clearly on this beautiful hot day. The ferry's name comes from the word wenatch in the Yakama laguage, which means "river flowing from canyon". Such a wonderful experience so glad we had perfect weather and the best company to enjoy the day with.

I use the Bainbridge Island ferry frequently (1-2x/week). See plusses, minuses and recommendations below. Plusses: - If you're on foot, the ferry terminal is a short walk from downtown Bainbridge. Give yourself 10-15 minutes just to be safe. - There is no fee if you're on foot! (It's free for everyone from Bainbridge Island to Seattle.) - If you're driving, you only pay for the car. Passengers are free. - The ferries leave frequently, about every 45-60 minutes, with a 35-minute crossing. - One really big plus for the Bainbridge Island Ferry terminal: there is food available both inside and outside the terminal! The food is offered by Commuter Comforts, and is generally of pretty good quality. The outside booth has limited hours (mostly satisfying commuter traffic), but the inside has extended hours, from very early morning until 5:30/6:30 p.m. - There's tons of paid parking just outside the ferry terminal if you're parking on the Bainbridge side. - There are a bunch of Kitsap busses that go to and from the ferry terminal from all over the Island. Unfortunately, they only run during commute hours. Minuses: - Driving can be problematic, especially on busy weekends. Even if you make it to the ferry on time, you may still miss the ferry if it is full. (Walk on passengers never have to worry about this.) The ferry entry lane can back up quite aways on 305 on busy weekends. - Ferry traffic enters off of 305 across Winslow Way, in the lane to the very far right. This is confusing since the ferry lane goes through, but the right turn lane is to your left. So, always stay to your right if you're going to the ferry. - You cannot turn right into the ferry terminal off of Winslow Lane. You can be ticketed for this turn. - Uber is hit or miss on Bainbridge Island, and if you're fortunate to get one, it may be expensive. Don't count on Uber to be there for you. - There is no taxi service on Bainbridge. Recommendations: - Since it is hit or miss whether the ferry you're planning on taking will be on time, especially on a busy weekend, get the WSDOT app. It'll show where the ferries are and how late they're running, so you can plan accordingly. If you're not catching the ferry again, or not for a while, you can always delete the app. - If you're in Bainbridge downtown, allow about 10-15 minutes to get to the terminal, with lights and such, just in case. - If you're staying on Bainbridge and flying out of SeaTac, you can catch the ferry across and grab a cab just below the terminal on Alaska Way. They have a $46 guaranteed fare to the airport (currently). You can also catch the Light Rail too (for $3!!), but you'll have to hoof it up the hill on Cherry to Pioneer Square. Either way, allow yourself plenty of time, especially if ferries are delayed.

Please arrive at least 20-30 minutes before scheduled departure time. Take a break from tolls and traffic. Yes. We opted for one way from Bremerton to Seattle. Ferry departed and arrived to Seattle on time within one hour. Once you step out with your valuables and lock the vehicle, you're able to walk upstairs, enjoy the view indoors and outdoors. I had fun chillin' outside on a clear day. There were families taking photos of the scenery or groupies. We sat in the first row indoors. Some of our relatives decided to order sandwich, snacks and a beverage. There's also restrooms. If you must, use the restroom in advance before the ferry arrives at the destination to avoid rushing back to the vehicle downstairs and be mindful of others having to leave. Our route was the fast ferry where we go through Rich Pass, you'll see Port Orchard to the right and Bainbridge Island on the left, then make your way to Seattle. Smooth ride.

I didn't see any info. posted for the cost to bring your car on the Ferry, there wasn't any info. on Ferry schedule either. After asking attendant, we paid $24.95 per car which includes the fare for driver and $14.90 additional per adult. This is for round trip. Need to let the attendant know where you are going, for us its Vashon Island with a V!! Staff will assist you on where to go and when to go on the ferry, pretty cool experience, once the Fauntleroy Ferry runs, I loved the scenic views of Olympic mountain, just loved the experience! You are directed to a lane after purchasing your tickets, which you will stay in as it leads aboard to the ferry. There are also workers who will direct you in case you get confused. I thought it was a very cool experience and loved that you could turn your car off and go upstairs to the deck and take in the views. The ferry ride is pretty short-- about 20 minutes or so and there are restrooms, board games, and concessions available. I picked up some hummus and pretzels for $6.52. PS- The ferry terminal has two destinations; Vashon and Soundworth. Make sure you go to the right lane!!!

The Seattle skyline, Bainbridge island, and the ocean scenery were all beautiful to look at throughout the ride. The trip back was especially stunning since we caught it during sunset golden hour, which made everything even more picturesque!!
