Taipei Hong was so good, we went here twice already for our food choice. The first time, we met a sweet lady that offered us a free drink. Their Popcorn Chicken ($8) is on the pricey side, but it's the only one I am aware of in Flushing. You can taste the batter, but the chicken itself wasn't bad. You can't go wrong with their Taiwanese Style Braised Beef Noodle Soup ($11) or their Pork Chop Over Rice ($10). Their noodle soup isn't as memorable as their Pork Chop Over Rice though. They make a mean delicious pork chop! And there's something about their minced meat over rice that just pairs perfectly together. Next time around, I tried their Taiwanese Burger ($6), and I wasn't expecting how sweet it would end up being, with lots of sugar and nuts surrounding the pork meat. I wouldn't get again, but it was pillowy. I speak the same for the Taiwanese Cold Noodle ($8), which their Mild Spicy was too much for me. The noodles were soft and bouncy though. Their Fish Steak Rice ($9) is the first I've ever seen. Picture a fish fried in a Taiwanese fried chicken style, and that's a fish steak. I wasn't expecting how interesting it tasted, and yet it works! They gave 5 pieces too! What a deal. I've been to another Taipei Hong in Elmhurst. This one is located off Roosevelt in Flushing inside a 5-stall mini food court and may not be easy to locate. I guess the best marker is T-Mobile which is 2 door away. There're a few 2-seater tables shared among all stalls, but aside from the 3 against wall, they are subject to foot traffic and people who are waiting. So this is really geared for carry-out orders. I don't normally order this dish because it always gets preempted by other bolder dishes when I'm in town. Today nostalgia called and I made it a point to get it. It's listed as "Mixed Tempuras" on the menu; I'd subtitle it as "Tempura Bowl with Broth". My MIL is right that it's a dish we can easily make with ingredients from an Asian supermarket, but the sauce that accompanies the dish is crucial and I don't think it's readily available in stores. The bowl consists of chunks of Daikon radishes, fish balls, fish cakes, seafood tofus, and fried tofus soaked in a pool of the magic sauce, with a cup of pork broth served separately. It was very temperature hot and very satisfying. The soft and crunchy texture is very easy on the mouth. I got what I came for and I highly recommend this dish. I also ordered some Taiwanese Burgers with pork bellies. It didn't look its best and I've had better ones elsewhere. Since then, I haven't found a good pork chop place in Flushing and I finally found it. I saw a video on YouTube recommending this spot so I decided to give Taipei Hong a visit for a taste of this revered cuisine. In particular, I was interested in trying the famous Taiwanese popcorn chicken. I ordered the platter over rice which came alongside diced beef and cooked cabbage. After one bite, I was blown away by the popcorn chicken. The chicken was perfectly fried with a satisfying crisp, tender inside and delicious seasoning. The rice platter was a perfect complement to the fried chicken. On its own, the rice platter is a bit on the bland side but still no problem if you drizzle a bit of soy sauce! The owner is really nice and is very friendly over the phone and in-person as well. I really enjoy the food, ambiance and overall experience at this Taiwanese food stall so I will offer it a 5-star rating. read more

I definitely would not have found this place if I had not come across his feed on Instagram because i usually don't walk into stores like these in flushing. It was a small shop inside of a building all the way at the end so it is easy to miss, but I would highly recommend you to search for it. It was one of the best Taiwanese food I've had. Their stinky tofu was perfectly stinky and flavorful, the sauces they added perfectly compliments the fried tofu. The gua bao was super good, lots of peanuts and a generous chunk of meat. I do wish there was more pickled mustard green in it, but it was still super enjoyable to eat. The popcorn chicken rice portion was plentiful and the popcorn chicken was super well seasoned. Located in a tiny ghetto food court with minimal seating on Roosevelt Ave, this place I would say is great for quick no fuss Taiwanese food. And not too stinky for the people who are more sensitive to the smell. They gave a hefty amount, easy to share between 2-4 people. The tofu was nicely fried and it came with pickled cabbage, very legit Beef noodle soup - the noodles looked to be udon, a bit thicker than I am used to. The soup and beef was good with authentic flavor and plenty of soft bok choy. The only negative was that the soup perhaps was a bit oilier than I would like it to be.This perhaps my least favorite of the three things I tried. Pork belly over rice - Loved it! They asked us if we wanted it to be fattier or leaner which I appreciated. We got leaner for more meat. It came over rice with meat sauce. The meat sauce was delicious!
