When we moved to rural Vermont from the city we were terrified that good Indian food was going to be out of of future for good. Enter Taj E India. When we need to head to Leb or Hanover for errands (Home Depot, Stern's Produce or feed store) we always try to get in a take out order with Taj E. Typically it gets eaten in the parking lot of one of those aforementioned shops, not sure if that makes it taste better or not but damn is it delicious. The Dal Makhani is always on the order as well as naan. The chicken tikka is fantastic. Their rice is something special even on its own. Also big fans of the paneer dishes and Chana Masala. Friendly folks, but take out only. Unassuming and the first time we pulled up to this house in what seems a fairly residential side street we weren't sure we had the right place...but just follow your nose to the delicious food that Taj E cooks up. read more

Simply love this place, full stop. So delicious, and not just for this area, their food will stand toe to toe with your best Indian from the big city. They bring a whole new definition to family owned and operated - it's their house and they serve the food off the back porch. So good! There was a long running debate around here about who makes better Indian food, this family or the "other" restaurant, but that was settled definitively when an order from the other place showed up with a roach in the curry. The menu and dishes are almost exactly the same as the Jewel of India in Hanover, NH (there is a family connection) but the quality is abysmal. Consistently good takeout food. The prices are fair and the portions are generous. We like the samosas, paneer shahi korma, mango lassi, and vegetable biryani. My husband is vegetarian, and while he was away for a while, I ordered the chicken tikka masala and was blown away by how perfect he chicken chunks were. Overall, I find no flaws! read more

The food preparation was quick, but unfortunately the food was pretty sub-par. The biryani was especially soggy, and the sides were pretty tasteless. Surprisingly delicious food! We had the vegetable samosas, chicken tikka masala, and aloo mattar and everything was nicely seasoned and well cooked. As the other yelpers have mentioned, this looks like it is in a persons house. It's really easy to drive by and think they're not open. They are! They have a handwritten sign on his Taj E India sign that says "open now" easy to miss. They are only open until 8. The guy who takes your order is super nice. Take out only. There is a place to sit while you wait, food comes out fast and you know it's fresh (you can hear them making it inside!) He even takes credit cards. We stay in Quechee, and this is totally worth the 20 minute drive. I would drive even farther for this food actually. I haven't had this quality of indian style food since actually visiting India! That's really good! Highly recommend the Szechuan fried rice, chana masala and the poori. Must get the poori. This will be our new place to stop and pick up food whenever we're in the area. Recommended. Just know this is a take-out place and you cannot eat there. It is a family run business from their house and the food is delicious. It is certainly top three in the places to eat in the Upper Valley. Vegetable samosa are yums(one order comes with 2 samosas)! I prefer the vegetable samosa to the chicken. I recommend the lamb biryani, so good and all deliciousness. The chicken masala is also a classic. The Mali kofta and Saag Paneer are also good but not my top choice. If it's prime dinner time it might take a while to get your food so plan ahead. I'm hungry thinking about that lamb biryani now. read more

They are for take-only. There are no tables, and not much of a waiting area, and it appears to be run out of the back of a house. That being said, it is still very good indian food. I got the lamb curry, medium spice and garlic naan, both were delicious. The lamb curry came in a half quart container and the naan was sized about as a personal pan pizza is, maybe 8-10 inches in diameter. The curry had great flavor, and large chunks of trnder lamb, and the naan wasnt shy with the garlic. For taste and size, they were great. I sish there had been any small area at which to dine. The only indoor room, where you place the order is tiny, 3 friends would feel confined within wuch a space. When it is noce out, there are 2 pincic tables in an area you can tell they tried to make nicer for outdoor dining. There is a lovely view of the car dealership across the moderately busy road. If you need togo plates and utensils, be sure to ask, as it was not included with my bag, but they were happy to provide when i inquired. They still use styrofoam, but i find that more common with smaller places as ots the least expensive. Overall the food was tasty, plentiful and well priced. Just make sure you have somewhere to eat it. read more

This is Indian food in the upper valley, and that is rare. For that reason it gets 3 stars. The prices are decent- $2.49 - $4.99 for an appetizer, and $8.99- $9.99 for a main dish. the amount of rice we received was appropriate for the 2 dishes we ordered, so that was a plus. Also the rice was tasty with some spices and cooked perfectly. I had the Paneer Pakoras as an app and they were OK, but not great. There were 4, and the price was $3.99. I don't think I'd order them again. My partner had the chicken samosas and he said they were good. They were a good size and there were 2 in an order. I think the price on those was also $3.99. For a main dish, I had the Paneer Korma ($9.99), and I asked for medium spice. There was no spice in this dish and very little flavor. It's supposed to be cooked with nuts and raisins. I found a few raisins, but no nuts at all, and these essential items add so much to this type of dish. I would not order this again from here. My partner had Chicken Curry. He said it was OK, but far from the best he has ever had. He rated it as passable. Would I go here again? Possibly if we are craving Indian food and unable to get down to Boston because after all, the choices in the area are few and far between. Considering the other reviews, not sure if this was a one-off experience but I recently tried their take out for the first time and the food was tasteless. I ordered breads, a dal makhni and paneer masala. The dal makhni is supposed to be made of black lentils but this one didn't had those and didn't had any salt either. Yes! There are TWO options for Indian food in the Upper Valley! I actually think Taj E was as good, if not better, than Jewel of India. We got a couple curry dishes with naan and samosas and it was about four meals worth of food - for a very reasonable 30 bucks. Definitely a good option when you don't feel like cooking and are tired of the usual bistro food options around here. The rice and chicken saag were great. The tandoor chicken was pretty good. The tandoor pork was terribly dry though. So dry we could barely cut it and ultimately stopped trying to eat it. The tandoor ground lamb was dry and had an odd flavor as well. I would go back but would shy away from the tandoor items. Yesterday I went to get Indian food for the second time from this location. I have enjoyed it very much. Last night I decided to get the Paneer Masala. It was wonderful! It came with just the right amount of beautifully spiced rice. The masala sauce was fantastic! Very flavorful! Although I did ask for medium and it felt more like mild. I also got an order of vegetable samosas for my husband to snack on later. I cannot eat gluten but he loves them! He said they were very good. The people there have been very friendly. It is located in somebody's home so there is no seating inside. I took mine back to school with me because I had an open house that night. I had enough for a filling dinner and lunch the next day. In these dark times of take-out food, this restaurant serves well packaged, hot, and delicious Indian meals that travel well - some of the best I've had dine in or take out. Easy to order using their website, and ready at the promised time. The pickup window on the porch they have set up is safe and we'll organized. This place was slightly hard to find because it was in a little house, which I was not expecting. We got tandoori chicken, naan, aloo mattar, saag paneer, and the dalmakhani. The highlights were the tandoori chicken and the naan. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, while the naan had a perfect char and supplied the comfort that all bread should. The saag paneer had excellent creamy mouthfeel, the lentils were bursting with excitement and the aloo mattar was an excellent balance of starchy potatoes and juicy peas. A truly humble small town restaurant that is great for lazy nights when takeout is obviously the only option. read more

The only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is because you do have to go pick it up in a little front desk reception area of their house, and to some people, that may make them uncomfortable. This food was delicious! I picked up around 1:30 pm. The food was very hot and smelled amazing. We put it In the fridge when we got home, and gently reheated everything for dinner. It was just as if it were fresh. The naan was warm and soft. The chicken tikka masala was amazing. The samosas are also very good. I wish the shrimp (vindaloo, I think) had less cilantro in the sauce. I just don't like cilantro very much. But I HIGHLY recommend this place. Will go back for sure. read more

One of my favlrite places to eat and not just for Indian food lol. Staff are always friendly and efficient and food is almost always cooked the same way which is amazingly good and very affordable. Even though theres no dine in option their take out is worth it and they dp have an outside table to eat at if desired. They also do catering and though I've never hired them for catering an event- I'm sure it would be as efficient, affordable, delicious and taken care of with professionalism, timeliness and friendliness as their regular take out orders are. My favorite and only place to get Indian take out for a decent price in the upper valley. Items suggested : chicken tikka massala, paneer massala, veg samosas and garlic naan. Fried veg were good too. Wasn't totally in love with the other ones I've tried but I hope to try the whole menu someday. I always order via phone and pick up within 20 minutes. They're always super nice and fast never had any issues. If you ask for spicy you will get spicy almost always. I've tried Indian several times at the jewel in Hanover or queen whatever it's called and they aren't as nice to women and the service is pretty slow and poor for take out although I would say their sauce and samosas is better Taj E is just way more convenient and hassle free read more

I ordered takeout for the first time and the food was delicious. I love Indian food but not familiar with what to order. I ordered the Naan, Chicken Tikka Masala and the Malai Kofta Kashmiri, all were good and quickly consumed. The food came with rice and three dipping sauces. I order it spicy but still found it to be fairly mild. This will be my go to for Indian food. The gentlemen that took my order was very pleasant and accurate. When i arrived I could smell the cooking aroma coming out of the huge kitchen vent, you walk into what feels like a walk in closet and pick up your order. Their standbys like butter chicken and lamb vindaloo are fairly tasty. The malai kofta was soggy and had lost shape but still tasted OK. Their naan is decent.
