Absolutely love this place. Local, friendly, great for the price, and most importantly, delicious!! The hosts/waitstaff are super super friendly and I'm very happy this local icon is still open despite the reduced customers due to COVID. The chai here is just plain delicious, better than any coffee shop in Boulder IMO- it has fresh cardamom in it, and it always smells heavenly. I also get the chicken tikka masala and the naan... call it a basic order, but it's so dang good. I've been coming to the Taj for close to over a decade now, from high school, through college and after graduation even. The food is absolutely amazing and the staff is always so generous and friendly. They've always been my favorite and go to Indian restaurant in Colorado and will continue to remain so! Flavorful, yet sometimes heavy Indian buffet. The Taj is my second favorite of the Boulder Indian buffet options. 3 stars for food, 4th star for convenience and friendly staff and owners. The Taj has been the cornerstone of Boulder's indian buffets since before I can remember. They have the buffet at lunch and dinner and they always provide a solid spread. This is the largest of the indian buffets in the area as far as number of dishes offered. The staff is always very friendly and the owner is normally around greeting and welcoming people. When the place is busy, they sometimes seem to rush you along a little bit, but I think they are just trying to be efficient. Do not be surprised if your check arrives before you have finished your first plate. The food: For vegetarian options they always have pakora, samosa, daal, sautéed cabbage, steamed carrots and broccoli, vegetable korma, vegetable kofta, saag paneer, and dairy free saag. I like that they clearly mark all dishes so you know what they are, but beware that sometimes their signs are misplaced or not by the right dish. If you are avoiding meat, you will want to concentrate on the appetizer section right by the rice and naan and then the vegetarian dishes in the domes by the dessert. The naan is very fluffy and nice when it is warm. It gets hard very quick as it cools and can be difficult to come by during busy buffet times. They also have several desserts. Kheer, banana pakora (fried banana), mango custard, sweet carrot and sometimes gulab jamun (pastry balls in sweet syrup). As you can see they have a very large offering and have plenty of vegetarian dishes. Most of them are heavier stews that have a fair amount of dairy. The dairy free saag, daal, and steamed veggies and cabbage are good options if you want to eat a little lighter. The Taj comes in at second place for me simply because I prefer the spicing and flavors of Nepal Cuisine and don't alway like the heaviness found in the Taj dishes. Can you say dinner buffet?! While I have never actually looked at a menu here, I can definitely vouch for their buffet. Their selection is larger than some of the other Indian buffets I've been to in Boulder. I've tried just about every dish they serve in the buffet and I've never been disappointed with any of them. They also have Naan which, strangely, some Indian buffets lack. The restaurant is located on the second floor of a shopping center, which gives you some nice views of the foothills. They complimented the well cooked chicken and soft pleasant potatoes. As a warning, it does bring spice that those who seek the burn will receive. As soon as you walk in the aroma is heaven. Plenty of tables, it's a little quiet at 8:30pm on a Tuesday.. but the pick ups and deliveries seem to be steady. There was another order similar to mine I almost picked up because we had similar names too. Lol! Staff is sweet and very helpful. They noticed I was heading back to Highlands Ranch and advised not too much ice in my iced chai so it wouldn't dilute on my drive. I drank it on the way home and let me tell you; their iced chai is like a perfectly sweet and spicy hug for your tongue! The lunch buffet is so good with many choices. They even have a choice of dairy free Saag and list the gluten free choices. The spice is just right on fo most dishes but they offer a condiment if you want more heat. I loved the sautéed cabbage and the kale dish. read more

I've been eating at The Taj for many years. Kamala, the owner, and Radhe, her sister, are the hosts and they make their clientele feel right at home. They are warm, friendly, and helpful. I like that they offer buffets at dinner as well as lunch. The buffets have a large selection with many vegetarian choices. Often they have vegan saag. The food is simply yummy! There are usually two or three dessert offerings and they are consistently tasty. There is a private backroom that can be reserved for meetings or large parties. We stopped by after we hiked Mt. Salidas. Were not familiar with the area so we werent sure where to go. We decided to take a chance on Taj and we are so glad we did! The buffet had a lot of vegetarian options and a decent variety of vegan ones. We were so surprised at how many people frequent this restaurant. Most of the patrons were greeted with hugs by the staff. The ambience of this restaurant is quite pleasing. A view of the mountains in the background while dining was an added bonus.
