Came here after a trip to Dyker Heights Xmas Lights. Was in the mood for Indian food and knew that as we got closer to Bay Ridge, there were supposed to be really good options. The first thing that stood out right away was the table settings and general vibe of the indoor area. It reminded me so much of the Indian restaurants I used to go to in central Jersey, though it was missing the little station with the fennel seeds and hard candy to really sell it. They do provide the proper papad and chutney starter though, which is always mandatory. Next, service was also more or less what you expect from an Indian restaurant - the wait staff were not overly gregarious but everything was served on time . They even gave us a free appetizer and free dessert! I'm unsure if that was purely because it's the holidays or because they always do that, but it was definitely nice. As far as the food itself, I enjoyed everything we got but was not quite blown away with anything. I thought the bhaji had a nice crunch but tasted a bit bland, the chutneys were both a bit watery and low in flavor, and the garlic naan was less garlicky than I would have liked. The curries we got, chicken kashmiri and paneer tikka masala, were both quite good though. I do think their ingredient ratios for the tikka masala could be fixed a bit. It was darker in color, more spicy and less creamy than usual, though still very tasty. I think if this was the version developed in the UK it never would have caught on with British folks . For the chicken Kashmiri, I'll be honest I've never had it before. I only got it because I wanted Kashmiri gosht but my girlfriend does not eat goat. Turns out it is something completely different, a yellow curry with bananas instead of the dark reddish brown curry I was expecting. However, it is actually super good so this turned out to be a lucky mistake! If anyone has a friend who simply cannot do spicy food but you are tired of them ordering the same butter or saag curry every time, have them try chicken Kashmiri. Overall still a very solid experience. I think this place could be truly great with some more attention to detail regarding flavors, but everything was still pretty tasty and the service and vibes were great.

The restaurant is very unsuspecting in the heart of Bay Ridge. It is squished between a bunch of small markets and an array of Spanish and Arabic restaurants. My main concern was the authenticity of the Indian food served because of the location, but make no mistake, it is quite authentic to me and delicious. The butter chicken is my favorite. It is extremely creamy and flavorful, and each bite accompanied by rice and a sip of lassi is heavenly. The prices are affordable but competitive. The decor of the place is rather dark but I had the food to-go. I am not typically fond of eating in very dark environments. There is a review below stating that the staff was not Indian. I am not sure why that is relevant to serve quality Indian cuisine but they were very Indian when I came to pick up the order.

Ordered: Vegetable Samosas (~$4) Keema Paratha (~$5): paratha stuffed with mildly spiced minced meat and peas Garlic Naan (~$4): bread baked with roasted garlic Chicken Shahi Kurma (~$13): chicken cooked in Mughlai style in mild and creamy sauce Lamb Kurma (~$15): lamb cooked in Mughlai style in mild and creamy sauce Chai tea (~$3) Complimentary dessert Aya's take: Although this is an Indian restaurant, the staff is not Indian. Food was pretty mediocre and lacked the depth you would typically find in Indian cuisine. Even the chai tea was super watered down and didn't taste freshly made. My friend who is Indian was super disappointed, so that says a lot. Staff was friendly and offered complimentary dessert which was nice, but the food was pretty ordinary.

The dishes here are consistently good and such a comfort food for lazy nights. The service is quick and attentive when you dine in and their menu has a great vegetarian selection as well as meatier options. It's great for a large group or an intimate date.

You would never know this place had amazing food from the outside. It's been in BR for a long time and it looks like it's never changed their decor. They have a HUGE menu. We ordered the taj mahal liver, garlic nan, chicken tikka masala, lamb karahi, shrimp dish. It was all delicious. The waiter couldn't explain the karahi very well so I'd recommend reading the menu in advance to get a general idea of what you'd want to eat. Next time we need to order something with spiciness in it. There were locals eating lunch there as well.

I think the food quality had gone down since the last time I ate here (3yrs ago). My family (sister-in-law & her family) ordered for lunch which came with free papadum (and the sauces/pickled onions). Ordered for 7 people: 3 free papadum 2 Mango Lassi 3 orders of garlic nan 1 order of regular nan side order of mango chutney (very thick&sweet) 3 Chicken Tikka Masala 2 Poneer Tikka Masala (vegetarian) 1 Butter Chicken (forgot the actual name) 1 Chicken Tikka Makhni All entrees are served with saffron rice. Overall, I felt my meal chicken tikka masala was meh. The chicken & rice overcooked (rice was hard and had clumps) and chicken was rock hard. For a minute I scared myself thinking I ate rat meat (I'm just paranoid as I don't eat cubed or chopped chicken often) because I bit into a piece of hard rubbery chicken. My other sister-in-law also had the same dish and also said the chicken was too hard. Sauce is great with rice but not a fan of the chicken. I had this meal 3 years ago when I dined in and it was fine... maybe the batch I got today just wasn't fresh.

While in the vicinity prior to getting my hair cut, I decided to have a small bite at Taj Mahal. And I'm glad I did. The only patron for lunch at 1 p.m., I felt enchanted by the overwhelming decor of everything red (and gold) once I entered. It is especially festive if you're dining with a group. The space was large, the menu diverse but I didn't have too much time to view it all. I wanted to keep it simple. Service was a bit lackluster and matter of fact from the staff. In other words, no small talk about the dishes or enthusiastic recommendations. No worries because I'm pretty well versed with Northern Indian food. Once seated, i was served papadam with the trio of chutneys. I decided to pass on anything deep fried and chose the Kati Chicken Poori appetizer at $6.95. To accompany my meal, I craved a Mango Lassi since it was sizzling outside in terms of the weather. The latter was a mistake because although I LOVE mango lassi, it spoiled my appetite. The Kati Chicken Poori arrived minutes after my beverage looking too pretty to eat. As i punctured the bread and the steam blew in my face, the overall aroma was divine. A slight disappointment was that the dish was mild. No spicy kick.. Yes, this Caucasian girl likes her food spicy. But not here. The overall flavors of the chicken and bread were very good. The bread tasted buttery (it was fried but not oily) and the chicken was cooked just right. I won't hold the lack of spiciness against them because I will definitely return again to have a proper meal. Taj Mahal is a solid go to Indian fix that will please most patrons particularly those who prefer their food mild. I'll have to return and update my current opinion. Satisfying for sure though.

Prices are decent and their nan bread is to die for. Curry is good. I wish the fish curry is boneless though.

Sometimes the best finds happen when you're focused on family and stumble into excellence. The food is the real deal. Bold, authentic, and done with discipline. Every bite reflects craftsmanship and pride. No shortcuts. No hype. Just results. The open, spacious layout creates an atmosphere that's relaxed, energetic, and inviting--perfect for unwinding, connecting, and enjoying great food without feeling boxed in. It has that Brooklyn-meets-business-meets-community vibe that works. And the pastrami? Memorable. Elite. Lines at all the big spots (Red Hook Tavern, Brooklyn Crab, and Hometown) were long, but we decided to wait it out and get food here. Lines was not just long but didn't move for a bit. Despite that we were able to get seating. Like many BBQ places, you order at the register and they'll give you whatever is already prepare and then bring over the rest of your order at your table. Best dish by far was the Korean sticky ribs. The pulled pork sandwich wasn't great; not hot at all, just room temperature. The Vietnamese wings had good flavor but the skin is very tight (it's an order of a few whole wings, not drums and flats). Cornbread and dill pickles were great, potato salad was a bit too vinegary for me. They had the US World Cup match on, but not the audio until after they scored a goal. Felt like they forgot to switch the audio. A little disappointing. Overall a good but not mind blowing experience.
