The gentleman working on my car came over and showed me what was going on with my fluids and explained what it all meant, which was so cool and transparent. I also got an emission test. Giving Take 5 two stars because my experience was overall average and could have been better. This was my first time going to an oil change specific location because I was in need of just an oil change and enticed by the promise of a 10 minute change. Quickly learned that was a false promise the more I sat and waited. They had 2 attendants working 2 bays which after counting times for 4 cars, each one averaged about 20 minutes. So if one person is in front of you, expect to wait around 45 minutes for the oil change to be complete. There were a few things that felt a lil scammy. Maybe it's just the price of 'convenience', but that was the most expensive oil change I've ever had. I know my car is technically a luxury vehicle and recommends premium oil, but being told they "can't" do anything else feels off. The prices are only for the first 5 quarts and there's an extra fee for more, so I ended up paying for 1.5 more quarts which I've never seen. I also tried presenting a coupon I had from online after being told the total and handed my credit card, but then was told they "can't do it" because the total was already in the computer.. but it for sure wasn't swiped yet. So that also did not feel customer friendly. This may just be the norm for oil these days, but I wouldn't say I would recommend this place. Next time would rather try and lump it in with an inspection or repair at another facility. If you do have to go to a Take 5, try to find the highest coupon you can and go at a time when no one is in front of you, but good luck. read more

My 16 year old son was turned away from an oil change at the Balcones Austin location about an hour ago. He was told it was because the threads on the drain plug/oil pan had been stripped. The manager asked him where he had gotten his oil changed previously. He told them it was there. She confirmed that Take 5 had a record of his visit in their system, but said their entire staff had rolled over since then and that therefore there was "no way they could fnd who was responsible." Therefore there was nothing they could do. My son called me when leaving the store. I called the (local) number immediately and was routed to a corporate-level system (or phone service?) and explained the problem. They said they would connect me to customer service. I have now been waiting for nearly an hour on hold. While waiting I also called form a friend's cell phone and asked the operator to please connect me to the local branch this time. "What is the purpose of your call" was the question again. This time I told them I wanted only to connect to the local store on Balcones. When I asked if I could simply connect to the local branch she said "sure, I was just wondering because I wanted to offer you a $25 coupon." I said "no thanks. I just want to talk to the local store". She connected me and the system did then ring me through but the location could not be reached. And there was no way to leave a message. I am guessing that the inability to connect to customer service is a tactic for deterring all but the most determined customers from following up on issues like this, rather than taking responsibility for them. I understand that companies are driven by policies that translate to the bottom line, so while disappointing this is not a huge surprise. But to tell a kid there was nothing that could be done w/o making any effort to remedy the problem or give them a way to follow up is at the very least negligent on the part of the manager. The experience I'm having now trying to reach anyone makes me think this is corporate policy. Hopefully the company responds and formally accepts responsibility for the damage to the vehicle that they already informally acknowledged occurred when the car was in their care. UPDATE Things have definitely changed for this location. I had a very simple issue. I needed to top up a tire from being gone for over a week. Just needed to put some air. I had tried to go to the surrounding gas stations but all seem to be not working. So I thought I would just check. The young guy was very kind and told me yes we can help you out while an older gentleman was audibly and vocally extremely rude. He was yelling at the younger guy as if the younger employee needed to get permission to attend anyone who pulls up. I doubt I will never be back here as it's clear the staff are. It taken care of for the hard work they are putting in. The older gentleman should not be working here let alone have any power over other employees. I felt so bad for the younger guy. He was doing a great job and communicating time frame and where to go. While the older guy was just yelling and being aggressive. read more

I originally stopped by yesterday, a Sunday at about 11:30am and they were closed. According to their website they are suppose to be open on Sunday's. I returned today, Saturday morning at 7:00am and they were open. I got just a full synthetic oil change with no other services and it came out to $110.76. They were finished in 10 mins. The girl informed me I was her first customer in a over a week. They had been pretty slow. I informed her I stopped by yesterday and they were closed. She looked confused as they normally ARE opened. She asked the older gentlemen, who than informed her they were indeed closed on Sunday since it had been so dead. I left and as I was on the road, my car was making a loud noise, I ended up pulling over and popped my hood to find that they DID NOT probably put back my air filter. Since your sitting in the car while it's being service I did observe the girl having a hard time putting it back in and asked the gentleman for assistance. He took over to what I thought was him installing the air filter back but apparently not. After taking a look myself, I found they reinstalled the air filter upside down which is why they were not able to realign the case to be able to close it. Terrible service! I will never come back there. The guy that helped me out with the service, wanted to charge me an excessively amount of money to change my cabin filter (that took me 2 seconds to change on my own and only cost me $20) and is not only the money aspect but I also asked him about the price for the filters in general and he told me $20. I thought it was for the both he was trying to change. When he told me that my total was $176, I asked him how that happened. He started to read the values and told me that my cabin filter was $50 USD. I asked him why he didn't communicate the price in advance for me to decide and he said "well, you didn't ask". Honestly, it is a communication problem and a life lesson for me to ask before they charge me INSANE prices. read more

Friendly folks here, but absolutely do not let them touch any part of your vehicle that isn't an oil filter or oil cap. First example: asked to check the cabin air filter. Pulled it out and replaced with a new one. Months later the car starts filling with water on the floorboard. The filter wasn't installed correctly and leaves clogged the drain causing water backup. Second example: they pull the engine filter out without asking and said, "here is your Filter? Want to change it?" The put it back but didn't properly seal the housing which led to a mass airflow sensor engine code lighting up the dash. I debugged it and saw only 1 of 2 latches clipped. Also the housing was clearly not sealed. If this has happened twice out of 4-5 visits, I can't imagine we are the only ones impacted by their sloppiness. I called customer service and of course it goes to a voicemail and no one has called back to address it. read more

He showed me my fluid levels, seeing that all was well except washer fluid--which he topped off. On Saturday I waited 45 mins and was never seen and finally left. they had one man working and 5 cars waiting for an oil change. On Sunday I went back to get my car serviced at a different time and they informed me they can't service my car (German car) because they don't have the right air filter. Which just made me mad that they wouldn't have told me that the first day so I wouldn't have wasted two trips and worst is I still haven't gotten an oil change. I got an oil change at a take 5 in Dallas. Drove to Austin that day and had a freak out because not even 3 days later I had a massive leak. On my way to this Take 5 my car stopped and had issues but luckily I managed to turn it on make it to this take 5. I 100% recommend this take 5. Thank you to Bryan, Jay, and Lance. They quickly got into action as soon as they realized the issue and repaired it. They found the problem, explained what happened, replaced my oil and fixed it for free, and explained how I'll be safe now. Obviously they could tell my nerves were out of whack. Visiting from out of town for a wedding. Started out at Walmart, guy was super rude so I decided to take my money elsewhere. Googled Oil change near me and ended up at this location. There were 3 vehicles in front of me. Teenager came up to my window, greeted me, offered me a cold water and nicely advised that it would take about 15 minutes. Wow, what a difference! The technician Guero never made eye contact with me when he spoke, so I was never sure if he was talking to me, and mind you when he did speak to me, it was like he was barking at me/angry . He put my current mileage on the reminder sticker and they also did not have my filter in stock. I would have taken his offer to have it ordered for me to come back but because I felt mistreated declined the offer. This is a unique place, you have your car serviced while you are waiting in your car. If you need your car inspected, this is the place! They are so fast! I change my own oil, so I don't need this service. I do see other customers getting their oil changed sitting in their cars. I normally pull up and jump out to get my car inspected. False advertising and poor communication. They do not care and won't look for their customers they just want to do the job as quickly and half ass and won't say a thing unless they get caught then not take accountability. I experience poor service and the worst customer service. They never showed my oil levels, didn't inform me before that they didn't have my coolant until I asked if they were going to provide it. They never check my windshield wipers not even checking to see if they need to top off fluid. They were over all incomplete and poor communication skills. When I expressed how I was upset that I informed before I was serviced that they couldn't give me the full service that was provided and wanted to be accommodated for that in a very calm and nice tone. One of the managers was very passive aggressive and being sarcastic with me and called me "a Karen and to just pay already " the only person that was decent and calm was tj the bigger guy. The incentives that y'all give for people to get oil changes is the best thing and why you will have regular customers. If I would of known before that the services wouldn't be provided then I would have gone somewhere else. I personally work in the costumer service industry and know how challenging it is. Stopped by on a Sunday, yes on Sunday, for a quick oil change. The staff was awesome. They worked well as a team. I brought my own oil and had an online coupon. They did a full service oil change in about 15 min. This included topping off the fluids and checking the air in the tires. This is the second time I've been to this exact location when they've turned me away for an oil change because they're going on lunch. The first time was awhile back.
