I brought my vehicle to Take 5 Oil Change Store #202 for a routine oil change. After the service, I discovered that the air filter housing was not properly resecured--the screws were stripped, and the box was left partially open. As a result, leaves and debris were sucked into my intake and pressed against the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor, which could easily lead to performance issues or engine damage. I submitted photographic evidence clearly showing: Minimal rust on the screws (threads were visible and intact), Stripped plastic embedded in the screw, indicating over-torquing during reassembly, Leaves and debris inside the intake area. Despite this, my claim was denied. The company pointed to "wear and tear" and "heat cycles" of a 2007 vehicle as the cause, rather than addressing the technician's failure to properly resecure the air filter box or alert me to any issue at the time of service. Their own video apparently shows the technician "checking" the housing, which contradicts the condition I found immediately after. To date, I've received no resolution. I've been invited to submit a mechanic's diagnostic report to continue the dispute--something I'm in the process of doing. This was a simple job that turned into an avoidable issue due to carelessness. If you bring your vehicle here, I highly recommend double-checking their work before driving off. read more

Had a problem with my car after my oil change. I went back and reported the problem, the team (I wish I had their names - smaller mexican guy and girl) They called the manager and asked if I can come back, the manager came to me since my car wouldn't start the next day. I didn't know they could do that but I'm glad he did. It had something to do with my air flow when they removed the air filter. Regardless the service was great, staff was great, management was awesome. My family recently had a problem with the location on Loop 3009 in Sherrtz and the manager there was horrible, rude, lied and careless. My family's vehicle is still not running due to 3009 no putting oil in the vehicle and messing it up. NOTHING compared to the service from San Marcos on Hwy 80. I have (had) been taking all of my company vehicles to Take5 under a fleet account for some time. This location stripped out my oil drain plug on my personal truck on my last visit. No issues with the previous oil change at another Take5 location, yet claim was denied stating oil drain plug issue was previously noted. No response or resolution from corporate. I am now forced to pay $1,460.00 to replace the oil pan because the drain plug is so stripped out, it won't stop leaking. Our legal department will be taking action, but if you do not have access to the proper legal resources you may want to get your oil changed elsewhere. The really puzzling part is that all that they had to do was offer to pay for the damage and all was forgiven. Now they will face legal action and have lost ALL of our future business. No accountability, stay away from this company! read more

Do not. I repeat. DO. NOT. DO NOT! Ever go to this location especially if you don't know how to fix your car, they will completely mess up the most simple job in the world. An oil change. After a long days of hard work the last thing I wanted to do was get under my car and change my oil. So unfortunately I decided to go to Take 5 (more like take $100 and mess your car up) to get an oil change. This location is full of trashy looking, lazy, incompetent and blatantly oblivious employees. They not only managed to not tighten my drain plug (the single bolt that drains the oil out.) but also put the wrong size oil filter on. I'm glad I'm so observant, after my hour drive home I noticed a substantial oil spot under my car that had pooled up after only 5 minutes of being parked. I put my car up on my lift and lone behold these ldiots left my drain plug half way out. Mind you I have a new car so there has never been a leak or any build up under the car but now the whole thing is caked in oil and dirt. Could you believe this cost me $100 to get the oil change, 3 hours of my time, $60 in new oil because I was nearly empty when I got home, $10 for a new oil filter and a $30 drain plug because mine got cross threaded. I'm very upset. I hope someone from corporate can please resolve this issue for me. I'm now out about $200 and 3 hours of my time. read more

I sent my daughter up there to have the oil changed in her Honda. They charged her $138 for an oil change and windshield wipers. Told her she was extremely low on coolant and that it would be $130 I hate when automotive service places are dishonest and try to take advantage of young women especially college students who do not have any money. I have called the corporate office and found out Omar's the manager at this location, but when I tried calling this location's phone number, it says their voice mailbox is full... Obviously this is not a location that is worried about customer service or cares about the Customer. Buyer beware... Do not use this location no matter what you do. read more

I went for the change, then I realized they didn't put the click and the cover fall half off And I was on my way to Houston. I went there when I came back And let them know what happens They put another thing and then told me they didn't do that because they don't need to take out the cover for the oil exchange, and there I know the lie to me in my face, because because they thought, I'm a woman and I don't know about cats, I know my car, and I know the need to remove that cover because My friend is the one to do the oil exchange all the time and I see the process. I've used this location in the past and they had great service and were quick. Today was awful. Victor was nothing short of combative and argumentative with me for no reason. Questioning literally everything I told him-from mileage on my car to if I'd been to that location before. Every interaction we had he was argumentative and negative. They type some random acronyms on the receipt in a random space and expect you to know that your panel is going to partially fall off on I-35 with your children in the car. F' them. Ricardo was great to us! He let us know what exactly needed fixing and when. He showed us what a new air filter looks like compared to the nasty one we had. Extremely rude and service was awful. I would highly recommend going somewhere else for your vehicle. I went to get an inspection done and they said I couldn't because Hays isn't my home county. I am also a student, which I am allowed to get an inspection if I live here full time and my vehicle primarily stays here (which I do). I was able to clarify and have it done but one of the gentlemen was especially rude and aggressive towards me. read more

I couldn't get my state inspection when I requested to get one. I was told that I registered in another county and only have to get inspected in that particular county. I went to another car shop and I immediately got an inspection. Because I'm a TxState student, he allowed me to register here. I'm disappointed in Take 5 with the communication error because it doesn't make sense for me to go to another city just to only get my inspection. read more

I've never had my oil changed so fast and while sitting in the drivers seat of my car. Damien and Daniel provided great customer service and even greeted me with a cold water bottle upon arrival. I was provided a full service checklist and they went over everything with me which made me feel so well taken care of. I went there today and the guy was raising his voice at me and came off rude to me and flat refused to help me because he saw oil on my engine and said that was a liability for him. I never had the experience of just driving up and having the car worked on as we sat in it. I happen to have my toddler in her carseat so it was nice not having to get out. The customer service was refreshingly old fashioned the guys were all so polite; I was given a bottle of water while waiting. The wait was short and the quick service was thorough, I was informed about my air filter needing a change but did not feel pressured to get it changed right then. I received complimentary washer fluid and my tires were aired up. I was even shown my oil stick as confirmation that my oil was changed to a standard level. Friendly and fast service, but overpriced for what you get- or rather dont. You're better off saving your money by going elsewhere where they'll also check your tire pressure, change your airfilter, and take a minute to make sure your car is good to go. I don't normally write these reviews but i am quite RATTLED. My boyfriend came to this location last Saturday 7/10/21 and left as if everything went fine. He works overnights and this morning at 6am after his shift he calls me and says HIS CAR BROKE DOWN on I-35 near Austin and he had to push it into a parking lot quite far. He said that he analyzed his situation and checked under the hood to see what what was going on. Nissan Altima 2018 - said it had NO OIL in the engine and shut down. This could have been very dangerous and potentially a $20K bill if the engine had been ruined. Got the car taken to the Nissan Dealership where they gave him an oil "change" (put oil in his car) and inspected his car. They said we got lucky the car wasn't RUINED. On top of all this he called the store at 7am yesterday morning for some understanding and compensation - was told the manager was not there and that they would have to review cameras.. He went back in today at 7am when they opened and the "manager" said that they couldn't "figure out where the oil went" and that they MIGHT be able to give him a refund if he jumped through all these loop holes for them. It was also mentioned that the cameras were not "clear" so he wasn't sure what happened... VERY UPSET with this situation and not sure how they FORGOT to put the oil INTO HIS CAR.. Yeah.. Can't say I would recommend this business at all. read more

I have a Toyota hybrid which most people don't know much about but these people know exactly what to do. They check all my fluids, tires, and even clean my windshield. As a college student in San Marcos I know nothing about taking care of my car and pulled into the first place I saw. The workers at Take 5 were so kind and helped me right away! I've been here for a few times for oil changes, tire pressure checked, inspections, and other services. Everyone i've interacted with has been professional, friendly, and efficient. I've been to other car places in the area and have left disregarded. I've only ever had good experiences at Take 5. Today I was helped by Jay (I think that was her name). Despite being new, she was so helpful. She communicated well and had a great attitude while only having one other coworker during her shift. It seems like they could increase their staff or have more people on a shift as they are usually short staffed. But the people I've gotten service from are always amazing!!!!
