My must have on Friday nights! Volcano sushi rolls, fried asparagus sticks, my hubby has the steak taco's and a glass of wine, is how we start our weekend! Very friendly staff, my order is always ready when I walk in to pick it up. I really like that I can have an option to have my sushi rolls made in brown rice. The veggie bowl is also one of my favorites. I am also happy there are two locations in the Augusta area the one is Evans in not open on Sunday's, but the Surrey Center location is. The atmosphere is always pleasant and the sushi is always fresh. The menu is diverse enough for those that want to experience the rolls, but not ready to go full fledged into raw fish world veggies only is an option and I do believe they do cook the fish if asked. We had a linkage to the owners, so it was very nice of them to spend time at our table and give us a complimentary dose of southern hospitality. The tempura asparagus was pretty good as a starter. It was a touch under salted but in this day and age that's probably a good thing. I also imagine the dip was suppose to be soy sauce so that may have balanced everything out. Wasn't a huge fan of Canadian oysters.. on the upside my coworker's roll was amazing! I think it was the Kevin roll or maybe the Micki roll... shrimp on the outside and fried bit on the inside. It was indeed the most delightful bite. It's what I love about sushi - a surprise goodness in my mouth. I would order that again. I unfortunately ordered a roll that look to be traditional California style. It had maybe a small bit of fish on the inside and a ton of rice... not for me - wouldn't recommend. This seemed like a good compromise for us as two of us wanted sushi and the other didn't. M and I shared the bento box for 1, which sounded like (and was) a fairly large portion. D ordered queso dip and chorizo and chicken enchiladas. I didn't try any of the Mexican food, but D said it was pretty alright, and it looked pretty tasty. The house made creme brule was also very tasty! And those two things are what gave this place the 2nd star, because otherwise it'd only be worth one. The service was decent, not particularly friendly, but fast and kept our drinks full. The sushi/shashimi/and roll included in the bento box were mediocre at best. The fish was not fresh and the rice was undercooked and chewy instead of soft and fluffy as sushi rice is meant to be. The flavor of the rice was lacking as well. And M and I both got severely sick within hours of eating. The day after was 16+ hours of hell. Now, I understand the risks involved with consuming raw fish, etc, as described in the menu, but at a sushi restaurant one needs to have a certain amount of confidence in the cleanliness and proper preparation of the fish. After this experience, Takosushi no longer has my confidence. My advice: stick to somewhere that specializes in sushi/Japanese food. read more

Food looked great...which is why we showed up with a party of 16 from out of town to enjoy it. All the tables were taken and we offered to sit in groups of 2-4. But the hostess told us the only was they would serve us is if we sat outside in the sun. After 10 minutes of sitting out there, with no server, we went in to ask the manager if they would sit us inside in the small groups as we asked. We were told that they couldn't give up the tables to one group at all. We were told to leave. Unfortunate. Manager didn't even want to come out to speak with us. read more

The whole time I was waiting all I got were stares and eye rolling and under breath comments but not from the diners, this all came from the workers. So far, my favorite restaurant in the area. Went to Takosushi with my family last Friday and it's by far the best food I've had since moving into the area. The wife and I recently relocated from Nashville and we were used to a city that embraced the food fusion style. I know a lot of people aren't keen when it comes to the idea, but the mild hipster in me believes it's one of the greatest contributions our generation has made to the culinary scene. Whether it's kimchi tacos or any other brainchild spawned from the evil genius of the food truck scene; I tend to whole-heartedly dig it. Takosushi offers the type of cuisine you'll find dominating big cities all over this county. What they've brought to the Augusta area is a bastion of hope for a misplaced foodie like myself. The setting of the Evans location is tiny, but in a good way. The close quarters provide a level of comfort and intimacy that makes you comfortable and want to hang around. We started off with their asparagus appatizer and it was nothing short of brilliant. The menu was diverse to the point that I found myself overwhelmed. I decided to place my faith in our server and asked her what she'd recommend. She recommended the Bento Box, which is your choice of roll and then the chef's choice of sushi and sashimi. The roll, sushi, and sashimi was top notch and coming from someone who has had sushi in Japan and all across the country, I can tell you this: short of Japan and Hawaii this is as good as any sushi I've had at any big name restaurant in any big name city. I've seen fusion spots become Jacks of all and masters of none. This does not seem to be the case with this restaurant. It seems that their dedication to their far east cuisine is matched evenly on their southwest side of the menu. We went far east for our meals and southwest for our drinks. I can tell you this, having a couple top notch margaritas with our food was a match made in heaven. I absolutely see Takosushi being a regular stop on my culinary experience as long as I'm here. The ideal location, considering it is located right behind our office building...a 1 minute walk, if that! I enjoy coming here for lunch with my co-workers. It's a great place for lunch with a mixture of menu items from texmex and Japanese style foods. The crazy roll is really good. Our choice of appetizers are typically the tempura asparagus and pot stickers. I've had the shrimp nachos which were good. The shrimp was good perfectly, not tough what so ever. On a recent trip I ordered the Sumo Bowl. It saw so good! I ordered it without tofu. Next time I get it I'll also opt to decline the bean sprouts or whatever the garnish was on the top (see image). They have some outdoor seating as well, I'm sure on a nice day it would be pleasant to sit out there. The artwork is nice too. Fabulous selection of southwest and Asian dishes. The bar is top rate and the service is quick and efficient. I love the wide selections of appetizers and entrees. The portions are generous and I'm always so amazed that everything we order comes out together at the perfect temperature. Dined inside but hope to be served on patio at next visit as weather cools. Bottom line up front: this is an innovation-inspiring Asian-fusion style restaurant that will be getting my business again. The wife and I needed a date night option so we decided to cruise Yelp to see what was nearby. We weren't quite sure what we were in the mood for so a Mexican/Japanese fusion restaurant seemed fitting. Now, to respond to the negative reviews, you need to keep in context where you are. This is Augusta, GA. It's not Atlanta, it's not Savannah, it's Augusta. Not exactly the culinary hotbed of GA. We started off with the tuna sashimi and I asked to add the optional quail egg for topping. Unfortunately, they were out of quail egg so I saved the 50 cents. I'll blame my adventurous pallet since the waitress said hardly anyone orders it. I wouldn't keep quail egg around either just to go to waste. The sashimi itself was on par with what I would expect for high-quality Japanese fare. Served over a bed of expertly cut cucumbers (which actually look like celery at first glance), it was actually a bit spicier than I expected which was certainly welcome. I'm a fan of all things spicy but this was the perfect balance of heat. My only wish was that it was served with a lime wedge garnish so I could add another splash of citrus. While eating the sashimi, I ordered one of my favorite beers (Delirium Tremens) which will impress most craft beer fans. It's hard to find in a restaurant setting such as this so this shows me the owner actually cares about the quality of what they serve. I also ordered a bottle of the unfiltered sake which I felt was reasonable for only 9 dollars. It paired well with all the dishes and had notes of mild citrus. Serve chilled and with a sake glass, I was more than glad to sip it as the meal progressed. At this point, I'm knee deep in sake and out comes the side cucumber salad and miso soup that came with my meal. I ordered the bento box which sounded like it came with plenty. I didn't realize it had accompaniments. My wife ordered a side salad with her sushi which she loved. This is saying something because she is very picky since she has a culinary background. The restaurant has their own proprietary ginger like dressing. My wife likened it to Asian meets southwest which fits perfectly with the theme. She it liked it so much that she asked if she could buy it but, unfortunately, they don't offer that. I don't blame them since the culinary industry has their share of copycats. Shortly after, the bento box had arrived. Box is more of just the name since it isn't served in an actual bento box like you would see elsewhere. No worries though since it was beautifully plated. I had the biggest loser roll which was tasty. The bento box also came with a few selections of ngiri style sushi and more sashimi (not even sure if that's the appropriate term here). I wouldn't order this if you aren't an absolute fan of raw fish. You only get 1 roll of your choice so use it wisely. The ngiri is just raw fish on rice while the sashimi is literally raw cuts of bite sized fish. No complaints from me since I'll eat anything but the less adventurous may not know what they are getting into if they order the box. My wife had the lobster roll which was a hit for her. Again, another impressive feat since she usually only eats vegetarian or shrimp sushi rolls. I was glad to see her extend outside of her comfort zone. Conclusion: Next time I'll be inclined to try some of the Mexican inspired samplings. This time around the sushi just looked too good to be passed on. I give this place some well earned respect since you wouldn't expect to find something so unique in the area. I honestly would have never found this place without yelp since it is sort of tucked away. The only reason this place misses out on the last star is because of the price tag. It's quite expensive and you won't be able to get your simple $4.95 rolls here. It's really hard for me to fault the restaurant for that since the quality is so good. You can tell the owner is passionate about what he does. Yes, you'll find him overseeing the whole operation and even bringing food/bussing tables. I like seeing involved owners of small businesses such as this. It's actually very inspiring since my wife and I would like to open our own restaurant someday.
