I ordered sushi (I can't remember which rolls) which, considering the price, it's worth what you pay - if you're looking for a super fancy place, I probably wouldn't advise eating here but it's fresh relative to store bought sushi and for the same price, if not cheaper. I ordered the ramen (not on the menu) but it was not even worth buying. I would have been better off eating $1 pack of ramen at home. It was the pork belly which was just boiled pork. Came here last night for a friend's birthday with a party of 8. I'm glad she picked this place, because I'm not sure I would have ever ventured back here and saw so many different places that have been on my list that I forget about often (Lahore Express, India Cafe, etc). You get your own drink upon coming in, which is new for me. I'm glad my friend was already there to tell me that or I probably would have waited a while before figuring that out. I ordered two different rolls. The oshinko (pickled radish) roll, which was odd but actually really good. The second one was the fried oyster one and I really liked that one. I'd say I'd order it again, but there were so many I wanted to try and for the most part the prices weren't horrible on the rolls. I got the two rolls, a salad and an iced coffee and it was only around $17. It's quiet and tucked in and I really enjoyed that. I will be back! read more

First time trying out Kinja Sushi Express. It has been on our list of places to try since moving to Augusta. So today my husband and I tried it for our anniversary lunch. We were so glad we chose to give it a try. When we walked in, we were immediately greeted by the owner and the smells coming from the kitchen were heavenly. We ended up having a sushi roll, nigiri, veggie tempura, and galbi plate. Everything was absolutely delicious, and, not to mention, reasonably priced. Although they do have take-out, this is definitely a dine in location because they have extra menu boards posted around the register area. All the photos look delicious and there are now many more dishes we want to try. The tempura was simple but delicious- sweet potato and zucchini - and perfectly cooked. The galbi was flavorful and just the way I like it - not too sweet. Banchan was simple at lunch - kimchi, cucumbers and cabbage. The cabbage (not Napa cabbage - just regular southern style cabbage) was a new dish for me that I will be trying to recreate at home. As for the sushi and nigiri - AMAZING!!! My husband ordered the spicy tuna roll and I had the freshwater eel. They were both delicious but I simply can't get over the eel. It was so melt in your mouth and perfectly cooked. They use the worst cuts of fish! Yuck! This has to be hands down the worst sushi I've eaten and dining experience. And this is coming from someone who had their stomach pumped after a bad case of food years ago from bad fish. I read the reviews thinking this was gonna be epic but after only eating half of my entree I finished off the night staving off my hunger with burgers and sodas. We ordered the sashimi dinner for one, soft shell crab roll, shrimp tempura roll, spicy tuna roll and dynamite roll. We ate maybe 60% of it and ended up paying $45 for such crap. Sashimi Dinner: The cuts were thin, the red snapper was roughly the shape of short little french fries, the salmon was slimy, and the surf clam was tougher and grittier than acceptable. Sashimi usually comes with a side of rice which I did not receive, nor a salad or soup. My dinner companions had difficulty even telling which fish were which, which is always a red flag for me. The Rolls: All were stringy and had bits of connective tissue and way too much spicy mayonnaise oozing out the ends. It looked like we dipped our rolls in mayo and halfway through, it was inedible. I also did not appreciate finding tuna bloodlines in the rolls which is way cheap and unappealing for U.S. standards. I give my cats that part of the tuna and can't believe it's served to people. As for service, it doesn't exist. You serve yourself water, soda, tea and come up to the bar if you want a beer. Also, if you want to order, you must come up to the sushi bar and make requests for menus. I think the name "Express" implies "self-service" more than anything else. 39/2014 read more

Out of the way korean and japanese food. Summary: Decent somewhat authentic korean food which was pricy for the volume of food provided. The reason I went to the resturant because I saw donkatsu on the menu. I made the assumption it came with curry sauce as that is a common combination but it did not. I decided to try a spicy dish as an alternative. The jap chae was sparse, but I get it americans dont eat that sh!#. The location is completely out of the way which was another reason I decided to try it. Dishes eaten: Spicy pork and Kimbap. Taste: Decent standard korean food made for american. Price: Too pricy for the amount of food provided. If I am going to pay over 30 bucks for dinner then I should not eat with a plastic fork. Service: This is obiviously a family owned resturant and they were very friendly. I waited in the front area, asked if I had eaten here before and handed a paper sushi menu with some of the items on it. I sat at the bar. The food took a long time to cook which is completely understandable considering it was run by two people. Atmosphere: Extermely clean, dark and weird like most of these places. Self serve wood chapsticks and plastic utensils. Will I go here again? Not likely because of the price and the food did not stand out, however I am a food snob and cheap which is the worst combo ever. Truly a hidden gem loved my experience.. i would highly recommend. I called a head jus to see how i liked the over the phone customer service i was pleased. When i sat down to eat a few hours later(took me for ever to get dressed) the owner asked if i was the one who called in. I was amazed by this. The food is very traditional i have been searching for a good koren bbq spot for a while since moving to Augusta. I love the layout of the location.. the owner and his wife keep the place clean. I was impressed. I would have liked to have more variety on sides,thats just me being spoiled. This place is actually the closest thing to an authentic sushi bar in Augusta, GA. While tucked away in a small shopping center (best places usually are tucked away), you are treated to a fabulous interior, which in my opinion, has a much greater ambiance than the popular Teppan-yaki style places. Sushi was also magnificent as was the staff. Kudos to them on their style! I'm still looking though for a sushi bar that gives you the three complimentary necessities upon entering their front door: a hot towel, miso soup, and a bowl of edamame. This is my favorite sushi bar between here and Atlanta. I grew up in southern California, and Kinja is like the little locals-only beachside sushi joints I grew up with. It's got a comfortable atmosphere, and friendly mom-and-pop service. Mr. Hong makes a great hotate gai which I almost always order for "dessert". For 2 people to eat and each have a beer look around $70 The price may seem high but it really isn't. We had 4 hand rolls, 4 "regular" rolls and a couple other items. For the same amount of food at a much larger and well known competitor will run you 20 bucks more. The inside is clean and quaint. It makes me feel like I am going to a Japanese grandmothers house. They do serve Korean items in addition to the sushi. They have their standard sushi menu but keep your eye out for their specials. They have a couple different boards that will list items not on the standard list so watch for that. Everything we had was very good and very well made. I am use to getting a hand roll and taking a bite and then the rest of the roll being just rice. Not here. The roll was filled from top to bottom so you don't have to worry about sharing that bite and just having rice left over. The only real down side is they don't have the widest variety of items so that may leave you wanting. However if you are willing work within their menu I think you will be pleased with what you receive. read more

I lived in Augusta for 20 years and had been going to Kinja almost since it opened. I was a sushi novice but I just enjoyed it so much. I have since had the opportunity to travel quite a bit and now I live in Atlanta. I always come back to Kinja whenever I can. While there may be fancier places (and much more expensive) in the big cities, I just love Mr Hong's sushi. Just the right rice and touch. I usually just stick to the sushi so I can't comment on the hot dishes but if you want good fish, this is the place. By far it is the best in Augusta. I little hard to find but it is worth it. Kinks is one of our go to places for ramen and sushi. While it has an unconventional ordering system the food is always well prepared and tastes amazing. The atmosphere is an eclectic mix of American and Japanese with some Korean thrown in for good measure. My wife and I always enjoy the food and it is a very reasonable price. read more

I love how he cuts the sushi rolls smaller than any other sushi resturant I have been. I hate this big roll in my mouth that I can hardly chew or swallow! The Korean food is soooooo great here!!! We found this lovely restaurant purely by chance. It is located kind of deep inside the plaza and seems not available for searching by distance or by such like Asian food or Korean food on Yelp, don't know why. But when I walk into the restaurant, I was attracted by its decoration. We ordered the spicy tofu soup, bangulgi(?) :) and some sushi. All of these tastes very good, also the kimchi. I can say the food here is real Korean! I recommend the restaurant to my friends. And we will definitely be here again to try more great food! Service is also very good:D read more

Best sushi in Augusta. The raw salmon sashimi is excellent! The price is very fair for sushi! The rolls don't have all the fluff that most sushi places in Augusta. They are nice and simple with very good quality sushi. (So you don't have to worry about getting sick unlike some other places). The staff is great just try not to come too late. Tried the Korean bibimbap and seafood pancake. Neither one was very good. 15 bucks for bibimbap is expensive especially when it has no taste. 25 bucks total for my meal. That was a red flag to run (for me) but my husband didn't want to just walk out & not try their food so we stayed. Our experience here was strange & uninviting. We seated ourselves, did not receive warm towels and got our own drinks (very small selection). I could not believe that any business would operate in such ways. The sushi was very ordinary & the worst part was that they used imitation crab! My Ginger salad (I figured is hard to mess up) was served close to freezing & the dressing was served in a plastic ketchup/mustard bottle.
