    Intimate spot

My kiddo has been wanting the cold noodles that you dip in hot broth since we had gone to Japan. We were in OC and found this spot. I appreciate that you can join the waitlist online. The place was small and cozy the staff was nice but could be a little more attentive , which is why I gave 4 stars. Food: was delicious though and portions were large.

My quest to try different types of ramen led me to Kitakata Ramen Ban Nai. I was fumbling with Waitlist when Madison welcomed me inside to be seated. Nice! I considered tonkatsu ramen but decided to order a large spicy miso ramen instead, Make it a large for $1.50 is a great deal. I found myself staring at a mount of vegetable toppings when my ramen arrived. The next thing I noticed was the wavy kitakata noodle that reminded me of chewy homemade noodle. I tasted the broth by itself before slurping in my ramen. The whole package was a winner for my taste buds. I learned from Madison that this location in Costa Mesa was established in 2014, the first international Kitakata joint outside Japan. Although this is my first time at Kitakata certainly won't be the last.

Great hide location with delicious food! The ramen was great flavor, exceptional noodles with a nice soft chewiness and good portions! My favorite was the Gyoza ! Very crisp with great mild flavor, best I had. Our waiter was excellent and did a great job. This is my go to Ramen spot.

Almost perfect! If parking wasn't a huge issue and they had ramen that could be swapped with chicken items instead of pork I would give 5 star. They did have multiple types of ramen, seasonings, and toppings that cost extra. I would recommend buying their fried chicken and then just adding it to the ramen to make a fantastic bowl, they said their manager does it all the time so why not just create the option? Overall pretty good experience and the servings were good, we took a bowl to go.

Stopped by Kitakata Ramen Ban Nai for lunch and had a great experience. Even though this spot can get busy, the Yelp waitlist kiosk made the process smooth and we were seated quickly. Parking in this plaza is always a bit of a challenge with so many businesses and limited spots, but we found one after a short loop. Inside, the restaurant is compact but has a warm, cozy atmosphere and is very clean. We ordered a spread: Kitakata Ramens, chicken curry, gyoza, Aburi Chashu Plate, cheese French fries, and the melon float. Everything arrived at a good pace and tasted fantastic. The melon float was a fun surprise - my son loved the mix of melon soda and vanilla ice cream. The ramen broth stood out: light, clean, and pure-tasting, without the heaviness some broths have. We'll definitely return.

Lots of tables when we arrived on a Saturday afternoon. I ordered the Spicy Tan Tan Ramen (extra spicy, large). Portions were really good as I could barely finish! This is one of the few ramen places I've been to in OC where a spicy broth actually had good heat! Chashu was also cooked to perfection and the bean sprouts and chives added some good crunch to the dish. I could come here again but probably during colder weather months!

Tuesday afternoon after 1:30 pm, I must have just missed their lunch rush. The restaurant was clean, I was immediately greeted. I do not recall seeing this server before, he was friendly, presentable, and reminded me that they are a cashless restaurant and only accept credit cards. He gave me a moment after I was seated. I ordered a hot water, large chashu ramen with no green onions and firm noodles. Water came out quickly. Food came out a few moments later. Exactly as I ordered it.

Here's a smoother, more polished version of your review: I first came here about seven years ago, and at the time, it wasn't as palatable compared to other ramen spots I had tried. We decided to give it another chance last night after all these years, but unfortunately, not much has changed. Even back then, there was always a crowd lined up outside, and it was the same when we arrived at 6 p.m.--already on the waitlist. We ordered the rich miso ramen, and to me, it tasted just like it did seven years ago--bland. I've had far better ramen, especially in Japan, and in my opinion, this one doesn't come close. The chashu pork portions were cut small (don't be misled by the photos on the menu). My son did enjoy the cubed chashu bowl, though. The gyoza was on the smaller side but tasted good. For the overall taste and quality, I found it a bit overpriced. Our server, Anne, was bubbly and very pleasant. As the restaurant filled up, it became quite loud, and tables were turned over quickly. I don't think we'll be returning. I honestly don't understand the long lines--perhaps people need to visit Japan to experience truly authentic ramen.

great lunch or dinner spot! came here for some quick bites before going to a bar in the same plaza and the food was all delicious. everything was perfectly flavorful and the fried food was perfectly crispy without feeling too greasy or heavy. loved the sauce that came with the fried chicken bowl. the service was quick and we didn't wait crazy long for our food. the restaurant is pretty small so it's great for small groups or a date night out.

My fiancée randomly found this place and we decided to try it on NYE We were helped by Jason, who was great and very informative of the menu. It was our first time trying Ramen so we were asking a bunch of questions and he gave us a great run down of the different options. I got the kitakata ramen, which was pork broth with pork. For my first time having ramen, it was great! The freshness of the broth and flavor from the egg and pork was amazing. The cucumber salad was great, similar to Din Tai Fung but bigger cucumbers. The juicy fried chicken may have been our favorite, as my fiancée loved it and wants to get it next time. Overall, the price, service, and chill vibes made this a great experience and somewhere I'd recommend for anyone in the area!

I have been here a couple of times before many years ago since I lived down the Street. My friend suggested coming here since he had the cravening for the Green Chili Shilo Ramen. Our lunch visit was last Sunday 5/24/26, There are some changes to the menu since my last visit. They now offer rice bowls and curry and only accept cashless payments. So make sure you have a debit or credit card with you to pay. While my friend ordered the Green Chili Shilo Ramen Large size I got the Spicy Tan Tan Ramen Large size and Yuza Fizz soda which was lime based and tasted similar to Sprite. The service was friendly and helpful and the food was amazing. I really enjoyed my Spicy Tan Tan ramen. It was full of flavors and the toppings mixed well. Definitely will return to try other menu items. Highly recommend.

Kitakata Ramen Ban Nai Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Kitakata Ramen Ban Nai

Do they have noodle that's both vegan AND gluten free?

Probably not, but I can't say for sure. I will say however Kitakata is the best Ramen I've had. Original from Japan. Just got way too pricey.

Are there gluten free noodles available?

    Yes they do

Do we need to make reservation for dine in?

No need to. As long as they don't have waiting list.

Is there an option for rice noodles?

    No rice noodles

    To go orders?

They don't allow food order togo. But you can take out if u don't finish your meal.

    Order to go?

You actually can get orders to go but it requires you to sit at a table and then place your order.

    They open on Presidents' Day?

Yes. Last order at 9:45pm. Thanks

    Do they take reservations?

They now have an iPad connected to Yelp so you can add yourself to the wait-list before you head over.

What is the most basic ramen for someone like me who has only had it once? I don't know what to order.

Get the Kitakata Ramen...that is the most basic.

Are there Gluten Free (GF) noodles and GF sauce options?

Do they make ramen without the fish flavor?

    Yes!

Is it vegetarian friendly, or are all the broths meat based?

They had a vegetarian-based broth briefly as a special but the last time I went, it was not there anymore. Otherwise, it's all meat based broth. The tsukemen broth is not meat based but may have "dashi" which is made from bonito (fish) flakes.

This wasn't just a "ramen joint"--it was a masterclass in authentic Fukuoka-style soul food. The Broth: Liquid Gold The standout was always their Signature Tonkotsu broth. You could literally taste the 30+ hours of labor that went into it. It had that distinct "frothy" texture (the bubble of the bone marrow) that you only find in high-end Hakata shops. It was rich, creamy, and carried a deep umami funk without ever being overly greasy. The Hits * Black Tonkotsu: The roasted garlic oil (mayu) added a smoky, dark complexity that ruined all other garlic ramens for me. * God Fire: For those who like to sweat, this offered the perfect balance of heat without sacrificing the integrity of the pork flavor. * The Karaage: Genuinely some of the best fried chicken in the area. We had actually expected just the usual soup ramen place, but later discovered that, although a view varieties of ramen noodles are offered on their menu, their specialty was in fact the dried version of a bowl of soup ramen noodles, or what our server referred to as a bowl of "reverse" ramen noodles, better known as Mazemen noodles.... sounded really yummy so far as I have always preferred dry noodles to soup ones. So, my wife went ahead and ordered a bowl of spicy California Tonkotsu ramen noodles, and I went with the Saitama Chicken Mazemen noodles..... and some handmade spicy wonton and fried Karaage Chicken on the side. Our food came out pretty fast, super hot, super fresh, and super delicious! I tried some of my wife's soup ramen, and yes, had great flavor... not too salty, and perfectly medium firm ramen noodles. As for my Mazemen noodles....woweee!.... this was my first time trying Mazemen noodles, with a large board on the wall with instructions on how Wadaya's Mazemen noodles should be eaten. When the instructions were followed, I dug straight in and...mmmmm good! The combination of ingredients in the bowl.... peppered ground chicken, scallions, chives, poached egg, minced garlic, fish umami, and seaweed flakes.... when all tossed together just made for an amazingly delicious bowl of noodles! I really loved and enjoyed it so very much! The Chicken karaage and spicy wontons were very delicious too and went great with our noodles. Other than that, very cute and cozy ambiance... like a little Japanese ramen place, service was excellent.. our server was so nice, so friendly, so attentive, and so helpful.... this made for just the perfect lunch! This place may not be as high profiled as other more popular and well known brands of ramen places, but it's definitely one of the best we've ever tried, and we'll definitely be back soon.

We were looking for a ramen option before headed to the airport, and we followed Yelp community's…read morerecommendation (trusting HI fellows once more!). To my surprise, it was a good experience that we had. The shop was small, but the staff has a workflow nailed down. The parking was not too terrible on a weekday evening -- I was worried about the warnings, so we parked on the street. When walking to the hotel, I saw that there were many open spaces in the parking lot! We had the chicken cartillage and the calamari for appetizers. The cartillage was good, but portion was quite small. Some additional seasoning/salt would have also made it much better! The calamari was definitely VERY different from other places, but I liked the batter texture. What I loved about the ramen here is that they let you customize from the noodle size, texture, spice level, and the salt level! I always prefer the thicker noodle type, so I found it comforting to be able to request it at no extra charge. Beware there is extra charge for Spice level 4 & 5! I had the Garlic Tonkotsu ramen, which was flavorful and not too salty/creamy. My fiance had the Tan Tan ramen at level 5 spice, which he thought it was not spicy (it was for me!) and not as flavorful as what I ordered. Overall, I would definitely revisit this shop next time I'm in Oahu!

The broth was flavorful, and I especially liked the chashu. I just wish the egg was more soft-boiled since mine was a little overcooked. My friends tried the wavy noodles, yuzu ramen, sesame cold noodles, and karaage chicken bowl, so we had a little bit of everything. The service was really nice, and everyone was helpful when we had questions about customizing our ramen. I also liked the interior because it had a cozy ramen shop vibe. The only downside was the cleanliness--our table was pretty sticky, and we noticed an ant and a fruit fly, so I definitely think the dining area could be cleaned a little better. Overall, I thought the prices were reasonable for the portions, and we had a good experience despite having some mixed opinions on the food. I would come back, but I'd probably try something different next time!

We also ordered the fried rice, which was okay. The garlic edamame was also really good. Service was excellent! Very attentive servers & friendly. This location is actually laughable. I placed an order on DoorDash for pickup. I show up exactly at…read morethe time it should be ready and it's already been given away. The server doesn't apologize - he states it's already been picked up. How? I ask if they don't verify the DoorDash confirmation for pickup. The server Kendrick tells me they do, but scammers show up with the exact order confirmation screen and pick up orders. Honestly sounds like BS to me, considering they have pickup orders by the front door on a shelf that anyone could take. Either way, the lack of an immediate apology or questions to clarify just point to the fact that he assumed immediately I was a scammer. Okay, annoying. But whatever. I want my food. I ask to have it remade - they're still seating people and people are ordering. They're not closing anytime soon. He tells me they won't remake it. I ask why and he continues to insinuate I'm a scammer and a thief trying to pick up someone else's order. He tells me to cancel my order. I'm beyond pissed at this point because I can't even get a refund via DoorDash because it's already being prepared. So I go back and talk to him again. He continues to refuse to cancel the order or remake it. He gets on the phone with a "Peter" who he claims is the manager. It gets really fun from here. Peter listens to my story and says there's nothing they can do. He says scammers do that all the time, and every restaurant deals with it. Okay, so how has it never happened to me at ANY restaurant? And how have I NEVER heard of it happening? So Peter, after refusing to do anything for me for a while, finally says he'll talk to the server to try and cancel the order from their end. Fine. I hand the phone back to Kendrick and he walks inside. I wait 7 min and no updates. So I go inside and ask him if he's canceling the order. He says, "what do you mean?" I tell him the manager said he'd tell him to cancel the order. Kendrick says, "he was telling you to do that". More gaslighting lmfaoooooo. I tell him no, he told you to. Again, I'm pissed beyond belief at this point and again, I can't get a refund via DoorDash because it's already "being prepared". You would think saying that 3 times is enough for them to finally get it but no. I wasted 20 min driving here, and another 25 waiting for a resolution for this BS. Kendrick tells me he can't cancel the order twice. I just ignore him and wait. 3 min later he goes "I canceled it". Like... you guys are acting like I'm the scammer when you clearly are the ones trying to pull some shady stuff. I FINALLY get my refund and Kendrick says, "sorry I just work here." Brother, that's not your line. You say that when, for example, corporate has a policy that no one likes. This all stemmed from you and your team's incompetence. The lying and gaslighting is absolutely crazy. 25 min and they either could've just refunded me or remade my order. A waste of time. I'll never visit any Slurpin again - this was just pathetic. Not a single bit of sincerity or willingness to help. The manager sounded like he was tired of talking to me, and our conversation lasted 2 min (I'm not even exaggerating). If you want food, don't go here. If you want to keep your money, don't come here. However, if you want to be treated like a liar and a scammer from the second you walk in, then this place is perfect.
