I purchased a sweater online from Talbots 12/26/23. It went on sale, the next day, another 20% off. I went into The Forum Talbots and the price adjustment was a hassle. I almost returned the sweater due to the bad reviews. Talbots website says you can have a price adjustment for 10 days and it had been five days since purchasing, one day since receiving it. The lady, Karen, said I could not have a price adjustment if I was wearing the sweater and if it didn't still have the tags. I had the receipt and I was actually wearing a sweater...so I had to take off the sweater and show her that I had literally just put the sweater on at home and it still had the tags on it and then she reluctantly gave me a Price adjustment as a store credit. She immediately started talking to her colleague and it made me feel unwelcome in the store. She obviously did not want to give a price adjustment. She made me feel bad. Now I don't want to shop at Talbots anymore andI have a store credit for the darn store. What happened to customer service? I thought sales people are supposed to reassure you about the quality, tell you that it is a good deal, and make you feel happy to shop in their store. I agree with several others, the service in the Forum store is pitiful! They never acknowledge my presence, not even eye contact or just a smile. They make me feel like I am intruding on their work of folding and hanging clothes while the manager shouts out directives to them. I have been going there for years because I like their clothes and it is convenient. The manager is unpleasant and seems more concerned with the merchandise than the customers. So sad since Talbots was taken over by Sycamore Private equity . Quality as in every case with Private equity take overs means automatic plummet in product quality. Racks of junky quality clothing . Summer tops and sweaters so thin you can see through them. They lost me as a customer as I walk in and walk right back out again. It use to be one of the only really great stores for petite women. i putchased two tee shirts that were on sale when I went to return them they told me I wasn't registered with their store and couldn't get a refund. I was told I could only get a store credit. I live outside the country and didn't want a store credit. They said it was purchased as a gift which is a lie. i had all receipts they gave me and still wasn't able to get my money back. This is my first Yelp review and I will also share it on Facebook and other social media. DONT GO TO TALBOTS. The store refuses to answer the phone. They had 7 people working in the store the day I called to inquire about an item. Eventually I drove 30 minutes to get there, went in and asked the manager why they don't answer the phone. First, she states the phone doesn't work it's out of order then in the next sentence she said they were also short staffed and just couldn't take time to answer any phone calls from customers. Hmmm which is it? If you have a customer calling during business hours you should answer the phone, otherwise it's just poor customer service. Lots of staff standing around, the store wasn't busy, and nobody can answer a phone. Luxury high end clothing stores answer the phone. Most businesses answer the phone during work hours. Great clothes at decent prices. The service in The Carlsbad store is terrific. I was great warmly, but not intrusively and everyone was eager to help. My review is for the catalog only. WOMEN WHO SHOP AT TALBOTS ARE NOT SIZE 2 with FLAT BELLIES! The models in the catalog turned me off the clothing because my thought while viewing them was, "I'll never look good in that because I'm a size 10." My first time ever in at Talbots! My sister-in-law recommend it as she always well dressed. Clark, the manager, was incredibly helpful and friendly. She found sizes for me. She suggested different articles of clothing that I might like and she brought me some jeans that fit absolutely perfectly. Clark made my shopping experience very enjoyable and productive. She told me about the sales and specials. Clark registered me for special promotions. I am so upset at Talbots, for being a high end store they have the worst ties with the credit card synchrony issuer. I paid off my balance, ask that the account be closed and after I get a surprise bill of $1.76 for a mysterious fee/interest after I had asked for my balance,paid it and closed account well before 25 days of payment due date. This $1.76 turned into late fees etc. Please if you're a high end store get high end credit banking that doesn't try to rob clients. read more

The sales associates in this store are always friendly, energetic, and helpful. I particularly want to give a shout out to Michelle for her excellent customer service. She always greets customers upon entering the store and consistently mingles with shoppers in a genuine effort to be helpful! I was in the store today to make some selections for my mother. After listening to information relative to my mother's clothing preferences, Michelle led me to the appropriate areas and offered informed suggestions. I was grateful. Additionally, Michelle is a great model for Talbot's clothing. Her outfits are well coordinated, and her presentation is impeccable. I thought it was me until I read these reviews. I've been shopping at Talbots for over 35 years and always loved their customer service, at least, until I came to the Carlsbad store. I stop in when I'm down visiting my kids and have been in more than twenty times. Never, never once have I been acknowledged when I entered or offered help as I shop. The clerks just fold clothes without ever looking up...unless they look you up and down and keep folding. I now stop in for the sole purpose of returning my online items - I'll save my shopping for Nordstrom's, where customer service is still valued. I have been a serious Talbot's shopper for the last 25 years. I remember buying my graduation outfit and most of my work clothes at the wonderful Talbot's in Raleigh, NC. When we moved to the San Diego area, one of the first places I looked for was Talbot's. (I must say I was very surprised to find out that the closest one was in Carlsbad, not Fashion Valley.) But just as my experiences in the past, I was nothing but happy and more than satisfied with the exceptional service I have received (especially from Christine & Rhonda). The ladies go above and beyond to make sure that you're taken care of and not just selling clothes. This store at the Forum leaves me scratching my head wondering why I return. Good thing the quality of the clothing is there because apparently the job (in the mind of the workers) is not to serve customers- but rather to talk to one another even when a customer is standing at the counter (with an arm full clothing - ready to buy). I never get greeted when I come in. I always help myself to a fitting room after walking through the store for 15 to 20 minutes. And I always have to wait at the counter even when there are four employees and no one else making a purchase. Today one of the women decided to finish her story while staring at me and then walked away and let the other woman reluctantly take care of the purchase. I'm an average woman in my 50's. Pretty much their target shopper. The staff turns over every year or so but the cruddy service never changes. Maybe it's time to look at the leadership? read more

I came in here looking for a gift for my best friends Mom as I knew she loves Talbots and there is a store in The Villages, where she resides -- so if she wanted to exchange, all she has to do was get into her golf cart and ride into town. ; ) Side note: If you've never been to The Villages in Florida, you must go! $1 beers during happy hour! I stopped in just to "peek" and walked out with 10 items. I rarely have this much success. The sale was incredible, however it was Harrison and the sweet woman working with him that made my first experience such an enjoyable one! I appreciated their assistance and they offered wonderful suggestions when I asked questions. Be sure to ask for Harrison! :-) I will certainly return as fall draws near and the new wardrobe is ready to surface. Update 6/5/19- 6:30pm. Sadly went from 5 Stars to 1 Star due to decline in customer service repeatedly over the past year. I have visited many times, it seems wonderful Harrison must have moved on... Nowadays It is rare that I am greeted warmly or asked if I need assistance. I understand (today) as I may look too comfy casual as I just finished running errands... In fact, it really is humiliating when two sales consultants are only a few feet away and still do not acknowledge your existence. Yet, they did say "hello" to a couple other women and asked if they needed any assistance. I walked out before I said anything to them... Yet I returned a little while later because I really had my heart set on purchasing a dress or skirt for a special event. Maybe it isn't just me because when I returned, I observed there were five customers mingling in the store (6:45pm) and both staff members were busy folding clothes and did not appear to acknowledge any of us. Maybe Talbots needs to pay their staff to clean the shop after hours!?!? Or, one can clean while one helps with customer service? This was protocol way back when I worked for Bullocks - high end retail. Have times changed this drastically? If so, no wonder we prefer online shopping- if we have to fend for ourselves anyway. We may as well do it in our pajamas from home- Without feeling judgment from the personnel who are hired to greet us, assist us with merchandise questions, and ring up the sales. Maybe the next time when I return looking classy with full hair and makeup I'll be greeted with a welcoming demeanor? I understand if the sales team is required to clean before the store closes due to company regulations, no problem. This is beyond their control. If this is the case, then please say hello at minimum, then maybe mention you have to fold tops, but can still offer to assist me if I need. This would feel so much more respectful. Talbots often has what I need but recently the sizing on the barely boot jeans really drove me crazy as I buy mostly online. Size 10p for the Champlain wash, size 12p for all other colors in the same style. So it was convenient to exchange sizes at the store in the Forum. The staff was very helpful. However, I buy online because the loud music that greets me at the Forum when I get out of my car just about makes me want to leave. read more

Painful experience, once again.....no help on the floor, during 30% off sale, and 5 of us in line for over 10 minutes while 3 sales people assisted 2 customers behind the counter and a 4th folded clothes. I appreciate you can still find LINED, embellished, embroidered, items and all the coordinates for an outfit from purses and shoes to scarves and jewelry. It pains me to write this review because I love the classy looks from Talbots, but the manager Karen was just awful. I came in the store to return a dress I had purchased. It had been in my closet 3 days longer then the 90 day policy return. I understand the policy. However, I drove 1:30 minutes to get to the store only to be treated so condescending. After the thousands of dollars I have spent buying clothes from Talbots, Karen looked at me up and down and said she couldn't help me with her snooty attitude. I honestly feel that because of the color of my skin she behaved this way. It was so unprofessional and it made me feel like a second class citizen. She should never ever be allowed to treat anyone else like this. If Talbots is looking at these reviews I suggest she takes the two hour mandatory state of California training course for managers. Please make sure she understands the California law AB1845 and SB1343. I definitely agree with all the other reviews there is no customer service at this location. Most likely due to her. I'm a firm believer that manners and good customer service should transcend any social or ethic views. Her tone and demeanor is the reason why I wrote this review in hopes she doesn't treat others the way she made me feel.This is not the first time this has happened with her. I was in the store just this October. My daughter had been in and found some very nice things and suggested I go in.We are both petites and it's not easy to find clothes especially pants short enough. Found two pairs of pants and two tops .I would have bought more but what I wanted they were out of, as they were having a sale . I was asked if I wanted to open a credit card account and I did and took advantage of the great discount. It was Sat so they were busy and yet the young woman helping me was on top of getting me rung up and my credit card application verified and calling to another store to see if she could get the other items I wanted that they were out of. Nice clothes, a bit conservative, but what is it with the customer service here? Asked from behind while browsing, from almost across the room, no eye contact, if i needed help. Not at that moment, but surely when they saw me carrying a huge pile of clothes to the fitting room, things slipping from my arms, they could have done something besides giggle. Can I help you with anything in there, came an anonymous voice towards the fitting rooms, and when I didn't know it was directed at me, it got louder, ruder. And when i wandered out with a few items in my hands, wearing their clothes, obviously looking for someone to help me find something, standing by the counter while they chit-chatted up some customers long after the sale was done, totally ignored me, I went back and changed, and walked out of the store. This is the second time I've been in this store in the past year, and the second time I have been treated shabbily. Remember the scene in Pretty Woman, when the saleswomen wouldn't help her? I am a loyal Nordstrom customer, not because I am eager to pay more, but because I value good service and a great attitude toward the customer. I like the Talbot brand and have been a good customer for several years and hundreds of dollars, however, today I am a customer no longer. I brought in two knit shirts that were gifts to me. One did not fit and one was not my taste. They looked up my friend who gave me the gifts and discovered it was purchased over 90 days ago. I wanted just to exchange and possibly buy more. They said, "Sorry, we can't take it back. I do understand the policy, however, since there are no Talbots stores near me, I had to drive a long way to find out about this policy. Nordstrom would never do that to a customer. They would have said, "We have a policy, however, we will take this back and you may pick out something else." Talbots ended the discussion by handing me back the shirts I can't use and saying, "We have a sale going on. Why don't you check out our merchandise." Well, I not only left with my Salvation Army donations, but I will go over to Nordstroms and do business! read more
