Today, November 27th, I had a terrible experience at this store because of the manager. I'm a regular customer; the employees are always friendly, and I love the clothes they sell. I went to exchange three shirts I bought on September 26th, aware of the 60-day return policy, but I decided to try anyway. The employee kindly explained the timeframe had expired but offered to check with the manager. Without even looking at me, the manager coldly and rudely said, "No." It wasn't the expired policy that upset me, but the poor judgment of the manager. She chose to save $50 over retaining a loyal customer. Now I never want to come back. The employees are better at customer service than the manager in this store. With just a little common sense, she could have made a customer happy. read more

I got forced out while trying out in the fitting room with the curtain down. The older associate was very sweet and helpful, she showed me the fitting room to try on with kind gestures. While I was changing, another tall and much younger associate peeked thru the curtain despite when I told her that I was in. With much disbelief, she pulled the curtain open anyway regardless my presence then said the fitting room was taken for someone else earlier while I was still in the fitting room changing. I immediately said to her that I was lead to the fitting room when the curtain was up at the time. My jaw must have been dropped with this sudden, abrupt and intrusive intervention. She ignored my unpleasant expression then replied that this fitting room was used by someone else so she immediately grabbed all the clothes hung on the wall then left me standing in the fitting room. I felt like this was handled poorly with disrespectful behavior when I already told her that I was in. She should have waited until I finished. I left the store without trying on the rest and maybe possibly wanted to buy some. What a rude and disgusting attitude. Very disappointed! read more

Business is always easy when things go smoothly... however, it's when things are difficult that a customer service person really shines. I bought a pair of jeans online because the style was not carried in the stores (frustration number one... None of the stores carry curvy) The jeans arrived, and were quite large. Because I already owned a pair in the same size of another style, I called customer service to see if they were pre-washed and was told they were not, and they would shrink so I should wash them. Alas... Didn't shrink still huge. So after paying for shipping, I drove 32 miles to the closest store to return them to be told that I couldn't return something if it had been washed... The manager, (apologies I don't know her name, tall, slim, long hair) ... stepped in and not only took care of the return, but offered to order things in the future so I wouldn't have to pay for shipping She agreed that the telephone customer service department needs improvement and by the time I left not only was my problem solved, but I now understand that it's a corporate issue that make shopping, so frustrating... Not the stores. After many years in retail, I'm a firm believer, that it is the lack of attention to the stores leading to these issues that are directly resulting in a reduction in retail sales...Corporate needs to step up to the plate read more

I ordered a pair of leggings online that didn't work out for me. Their online policy stated a full refund on unworn items with tags still attached. My return could not have been simpler. Walked in, asked for a refund and my credit card was already credited by the time I returned home, WONDERFUL! I ended up trying on additional items that I found in their store. The staff was very helpful and went out of their way to accommodate me and my fiancé. Their dressing rooms were open, clean and Covid safe. The store was also spotless, clean and very well organized. It wasn't busy at all, but not a single one of the 3 sales associate acknowledged me. I was wearing tennis clothes, but I didn't look disheveled. My new favorite store! I had never been here before and I was blown away at how cute the clothes were! I'm pretty picky and I usually walk in and out of a place empty handed, this place was another story! Everything I saw I loved, I found myself grabbing almost every item to try on. The clothes here id say are very nice, work clothes. Or just if you like dressy classy. They also have suits for women for those professional days at the office. Great selection, I'd definitely recommend coming here for work clothes. Staff was outstanding! My hands were full and I had an employee constantly take my items into a dressing room for me which was great! I was frequently checked up on and they made sure to find my sizes for me. Overall this is a great store. 5 star customer service and the clothes were all completely my style. It is a bit pricy! My visit here I spent about a grand on my clothes, but it was well worth it! Bottom Line: The pricey clothes would be totally worth the money if the service here didn't stink. Sadly, just as many other have said before me, the service here is awful. I used to be a regular here spending hundreds of dollars every several weeks but now, I can't even bare to walk in there. Forty-five percent of the time I couldn't get anyone to help me, 45% of the time the sales girls were super pushy and the other 10% of the time service was excellent. Finally I have decided that for the amount of money I was spending here I would rather spend that same money at Nordstrom or Anthropolgie where the service is excellent about 90% of the time. Even though I still like their clothes (I loved the window displays last night) I recycle their catalog (and coupons) without even taking a sneak peak. Hi, I shop White House Black Market for most of my clothes. I love the style, the quality, the variances, the outfit ideas they share, the sales. Most of all I love WHBM employees. Kim, Marina del Rey, WHBM. THIS REVIEW IS ABOUT YOU! I wanted these sailor jeans I saw on a flyer. I waited too long to purchase the jeans and they were no longer offered. I stopped by the Marina del Rey store and checked the sale rack, no jeans. An employee, Kim, notice me searching and asked if she could help me. I asked her about the sailor jeans, she knew exactly what Jeans I was referring to. Kim knew the jeans were no longer offered, but she check the computer anyway. She found a couple of stores that show availability in the computer and she called. The second phone call, Orange County location, is where Kim found my jeans. The Orange County store held my jeans for 2 days until I was able to get them. I love my jeans!!! Thank you KIM!!! BEST customer service ever! read more

I don't go out clothes shopping as much as I used to. But, when I do, I power through and get as much done as possible and typically spend a large sum. I have shopped at this particular location before because it is conveniently located next to Anthropology and I can hit both locations in one visit. I was there a couple of months ago and bought several items. Not sure what they call it, but I have some sort of special card with BHWM for so many years of shopping with them and get special discounts. Anyway, I bought a cute pink shrug at this visit without trying it on. What could be wrong, right? Well, tried it on once home, at it was not a good fit at all. Such a bummer! Nothing wrong with it, just bad for me. I left the tags on and saved it for the next time I got to the store for return. 2 months later, I walk into BHWM with my return. Immediately one of the salespeople approached me. Pretty aggressive in posture. I knew right away I would not like working with her. I gave her my bag and told her I needed to return the shrug. She pulled it out of the bag as if it was dirty laundry and asked when I bought it. Note, tags still on. I told her I couldn't remember but she could look it up. She input my info and said "You bought it over 60 days ago. I said "Ok. So does that mean store credit?" And then she flipped the shrug back into the bag and handed it to me while walking away "No. That means you own it!" Ok. Never going back. Lost me as a customer. WHBM needs to seriously screen for better employees since they work with the public and, they really need to seriously fix a terrible return policy! So disappointed. read more

I have always loved this store from the time they were in the Del Mar Plaza. I have found many dresses here for special occasions. They have a nice assortment of conservative, work clothes to nice dresses and slacks to some a tad funky go out clothes. The prices are on the higher side but not really expensive. In the middle for this type of store. The Forum is huge so you can find a place to park and stop in here. They have shoes and accessories also. read more

This store is located in the Carlsbad Forum shopping center and is one of many womens clothing boutique stores found here. This happens to be my favorite clothing store in the Forum so this review is long overdue since I've been shopping here since it opened up in 2003. Since we don't have a large department store around...wait, let me rephrase that. Since we don't have a GOOD department store or a mall around, this store seems to be my go to spot when I'm in need of a new outfit. I went in yesterday and was helped by a new gal by the name of Natalie. She was probably one of the best salespersons I've ever come across here. She was attentive, personable and really seem to know fashion. She not only recommended many pieces, she recommend accessories that I would've never thought of. She asked me to try on a large floral printed dress that I would've never thought to try on and of course, it was very flattering and looked and felt amazing on. I ended up picking up that dress and several dressy belts; a pink & red beaded chain belt and a crystal chain tassel belt that I'm in love with. Not something I would usually purchase but for a salesperson to convince me is proof that she's good at what she does. A word of advice. Sign up for their catalog. The more money you spend, the more discounts you get. For spending over $200, I got $50 off my bill so one of the belts was practically paid for. I have to agree with some of the other reviews. The women who work here are incredibly rude. Last time I went in I walked over to check out the sales and a woman approached me as I grabbed a pair of pants and said "Um, those are a double zero" and looked me up and down like, clearly you are not a double zero. I was so shocked! First of all, maybe Im looking for clothes for a gift, maybe Im looking for motivational clothes lol I dont know. The point is, she should be asking me if she can wrap them up for me and shouldnt be asking me why I am buying what ever size I grab. What made it worse was she quickly pointed out "the larges are over there"...I was like ok seriously...this is like something you see in movies. People can't seriously be that dense, or tacky for that matter. These little ladies take the cake though. I have always enjoyed shopping at White and Black because I know I can get beautiful clothes in any size as I do go up and down in weight. But I will never go back to this location, not after such an emberrasing scene. PS. The pants that I had origionally went to grab...they turned out to be my size. :) Thanks alot! read more

DISGUSTING SERVICE from equally disgusting "sales associates". I've NEVER felt so utterly unwelcome at a store before. I walked in and no one said hello or even made eye contact with me. I've actually gone once before and they were alright, but I was with someone and I guess they assumed he would be paying for this lil old helpless female - I only say this because when he said 'No' to an ugly blouse I held up as a joke, the SA Whispered "next time you should leave him home and bring his card." (Wtf, really?) Today, I ended up buying one top at about 1pm but I ended up going back at 3 pm to return it because I'd found something cuter in a similar shade at Anthropologie. The elderly lady looked me up and down then asked "Yes?". When i told her that I'd like to make a return, she just looked at me, as though I had just terribly offended her. They actually tried to deny me a return because: 1) The sale wouldn't show up on their registers for 24 hours so I couldn't return a transaction not in their system. 2) I paid cash, which I guess no one EVER does, so it'd be impossible to find it in the logs to reverse. I bought it two hours earlier, had the tags on it, had the receipt and it was still wrapped in the tissue paper. What the heck was the problem exactly? I asked if they might void it out since the receipt printed SOMETHING that was in the system and the elderly lady continued repeating the first two lines above, then added "You know, we're not even supposed to be doing this." I didn't recollect seeing a return clause on the receipt saying that I needed to wait a day or that paying in cash screws up their system. She SNATCHED the receipt out of my hands and ended up putting a note on it after which she somehow magically voided the transaction that she couldn't void seconds earlier. They actually returned $3.00 less than what I'd paid but at that point, a $3.00 loss was worth getting out of there. I can't imagine what excuse she'd come up with if I pointed out the error in her remedial math skills. Other stores were significantly more crowded and yet I received wonderful service in them. Not sure what's going on in the heads of the bitter ladies working here but they're sure to drive off any repeat customers with such horrendous customer service. Skip WHBM and go to ANY other store in this center, unless you're dying to get treated like crap. How is this store still open? read more

Love the clothes, very cute style. Very pricey. Ive shopping in here at this location several times with my mom, and theyve always been helpful. However, i went in by myself today, wearing sweatpants and a casual shirt. I was literally the only customer in the store and there were three staff on. No one welcomed me, one of the staff members gave me a weird look, and no one tried to help me or ask me if i was looking for anything in particular. I felt like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, when she went to the store and was discriminated against. I had money to spend, but i felt like because the way i looked, since im young and was dressed rather frumpy, that i wasnt worth their time. Horrible shopping experience. I fell in love with this boutique store many years ago when it opened up in La Jolla Village. Recently, I went online to order some things. I called customer service for some assistance and even questioned if the store had changed design direction over the years. I was assured it hadn't despite becoming associated with Chicos. WHBM has indeed changed direction much to my dismay. It's just not the same store. It's not that cool little boutique it was many years ago. It's become a Chicos. Beware!! Nice clothing selection at fair prices but...on two separate occasions, I went to return proper merchandise with original tags and receipts and was given a lower price. This particularly occurred with merchandise initially purchased at their store. In both instances, I had purchased multiples of the same item as gifts. Ignoring the receipt which was still current, they slipped in a return at a lower price. Beware...check your credited amounts before you leave the store. Once was perhaps a mistake...twice would indicate an effort to perhaps defraud the customer! Slick to say the least! read more

The sales person was incredibly pushy for me to order a jumpsuit only to find out after I paid for it and she ordered it that it wasn't available in my size in any store. I was told by salesperson I would FOR SURE receive it in 7-10 days. This was for an event so imagine my disappointment when I called to find out it wasn't shipped because it was never available. I did receive my refund but now I have one week to find an outfit. No salesperson should lie to a customer just to get a commission. This is my last purchase with this company. Beware when you order. I don't usually write reviews, but I felt I had to say something about how badly the sales person made me feel when I tried to return a top. In August I purchased about $700 worth of clothing for a trip. There was one top I had not had a chance to wear, so it has been a while since I purchased it. My husband and I had a dinner to go to this weekend so I was finally going to wear the strapless top. I put it on and when I zipped it up the zipper split from the bottom. I was stuck in the top. The zipper wouldn't go up or down. I managed to wiggle out of it and thought I would take it back , as I paid for it with my AX and thought I could exchange it. After all, the tags were still on it. When I entered the store (wearing another top from there that I purchased the week before) I explained what happened. The clerks all went in the corner whispering and looking at me. One lady came up to me and asked when I purchased it and I told her I couldn't remember exactly, but it was a while ago. I had not planned on returning it, but I can't wear it at all now, not with confidence anyway. She said this is really old, probably a year or two. I knew it had not been that long, as I bought it for a trip and knew it had not been a year. The clerk was able to get the zipper open then zipped it again and said, "here, it is fine." I told her it separated from the bottom. She pulled on it and it did it again. I thought, now she sees and will assist me in replacing the top. She then went back to playing with the zipper and then came up and said, "here, it is fixed." I told her I am scared that if I wear it out, it will split again. That should have been enough said, but she insisted that she would only give me $14 for an $80 top and that there was nothing wrong with it. There are SO many examples of bad customer service with my experience and the way that I was made to feel was inexcusable. I said thank you, took the top and left. The clerks all stared at me as if I was the cheap customer that was trying to pull something over on them. I will not shop there again and feel bad that the clerks assume the worst of their customers and have not been trained to treat the customer with more respect read more

We went there yesterday, looking for something cute for a birthday gift. The really pretty lady with the dark, straight hair (wearing a cute outfit of denim and ecru asymmetrical tank- all WHBM) helped us. She was unbelievably nice and helpful in finding the correct size needed for my daughter. She was an excellent representation of the company. Equally as pleasant with other people in the store is what I observed. Nice, very tidy store. We will be back. Top notch! read more
