We were here dining with dad so I figured I would "sniff in" for another sack of whole beans. I have always loved Brazilian java, so I am moving down their list trying new beans. It is typically medium roast, not sour or bitter. Today I bought this: "Verao" Single Origin Tasting notes: marzipan, peanuts, caramelized sugar 12 oz. Very aromatic after brewing and you can pick up the tasting notes if you sniff into the grounds especially. The STAFF are okay but not great. Nobody was present at the counter for several minutes and there is no bell to ring. I vetoed and used the restroom. When I returned, same deal. She did show from the back a couple of minutes later but she acted as if I was invisible. Was she handling a drive-thru order on those ear buds? ;) Regardless, I eventually got my java and up out of that mug. Thankfully the java in my mug was worth the minor annoyance. Having been at Liberty Public Market, I was ready for a much needed cup of coffee. Inside the market I was able to smell the aroma of coffee beans and much like many others, found myself naturally walking in line waiting for my turn at a cup of joe. I have to commend the person working the stand on a weekend all alone and wow did they freaking hustle. Drinks were executed very quickly and everyone was happy. I went for an iced oat milk vanilla latte and appreciated how they made their own syrup. The drink was super fresh and I really enjoyed the beans they used. A tried and true cup of coffee is one I'll always appreciate. If I find myself back at the market, I'm sure I'll be back. read more

Sometimes straight espresso sounds like too much to handle and sometimes a signature latte sounds overwhelming (calorically and taste). When that happens, a flat white usually comes to the rescue. Talitha was there to save the (under caffeinated) day. This new cafe - or at least new to my realization - prepped the flat white in a record time and it packed the espresso punch I was looking for. That punch was admittedly softer than their double espresso sitting at the top of the menu like a prize fighting champion. When bird rock or moniker general seem to far while waiting for your food at another stand and you're not willing to buy espresso from a bakery, this place hit the spot. read more

After dinner coffee and dessert at Liberty Station in the Public Market. I was still full from dinner but I needed a pick-me-up. I love butterscotch so I thought a Butterscotch Latte with oat milk would be perfect. It was made nicely with the traditional latte art and it could have been a tad sweeter. But I enjoyed it and glad it wasn't too sweet. Service here has always been a bit slow because there is normally just one person working the booth. Disappointed to say, CBTL and even Starbuck's create better flat whites than this place. While I appreciated the velvety microfoam, my flat white came out as flavorless as a latte. It was basically frothed milk with a hint of coffee. I might have been happier with just a black drip, double shot espresso or a cortado, but the prices are utterly ridiculous so I doubt I'll be back. If you just want a caffeine fix, it's a worthy stop as it's the only solid coffee option in the market. PS: Virtuoso, Ironsmith, Steady State, Mostra, Dark Horse... Update: The manager called me after finding my note. Natasha had indeed thrown it in the trash. He put a note on file to comp my drinks next visit, and was very nice. I went to the Westbean location in Liberty Station with a Bogo coupon listing that address as a valid location. The coupon was not expired. When I went to redeem it, an extremely rude and aloof barista named Natasha refused to accept it. When I asked to contact the manager as to why, she refused to give me any contact information to follow up. I asked her how she contacted the manager, and with a rude shrug and eye roll she told me "when they are here". I left the coupon with a note, but expect them to throw it away.
