I asked the woman that worked there which one was most popular as far as iced lattes and she said the salted caramel. I shoulda went with that. I ordered the vanilla latte with oat milk half sweetened. I recommend half sweetened because even then it was super sweet. I didn't taste vanilla at all so 3 stars for my drink. I added a star because the woman that worked there was sooooo nice! So thank you to her! Also, it was pretty pricey. 7 dollars for an iced coffee? I've heard of WestBean as one of the better known roasters here in San Diego and was excited to finally try their coffee at their location at Liberty Public Market. Pretty basic menu with your traditional espresso drinks and a few options variety-wise. I tried their Honey Cinnamon Latte with oat milk and opted for the standard size. According to the barista, both the standard and 16oz drink have two shots of espresso, with the difference being in the amount of milk (so essentially, I'm paying an extra $0.50 to $0.75 for milk alone). On top of that, they charge an additional $0.75 cents for milk substitutes, making it a $6.50 12oz latte. The latte was smooth, although I wish they had mixed the cinnamon with the milk or espresso; the cinnamon carried to the end of the drink by the foam caught me by surprise *coughs from dryness*. My partner got the mint infused Kryptonite Cold Brew with sweet cream added in. The barista was kind enough to offer us a sample of the cold brew to taste. I didn't find the mint flavor overpowering, and the sweet cream balanced out the cold brew's flavors nicely. $5.50 for the cold brew, I'm not sure if they added an additional cost for the sweet cream. A little on the pricier side, but a decent choice if you're looking for caffeine during your visit to the market. read more

Well, I was hoping for the best... Looking for coffee at Liberty Station, I was pointed in the direction of WestBean. I looked up the reviews and saw that they had a mint cold brew. Done! I ordered the Kryptonite that everyone raves about. Unfortunately, while the barista went to prepare he, he informed me that they were out of Kryptonite and asked me if he could make me something else and that he would take care of it. I went with a cappuccino. Cappuccino - This was an 8 oz cup and there was a lot of white spongy foam on top. No design art, which was fine, I don't need that to make my espresso great. But I was shocked that this turned out more like a cappuccino that is typically served at your corner ice cream/donut shop than the 6 oz. traditional cappuccinos that most craft coffee makers make. The espressso drink was alright, but nothing really stood out about the beans. The barista handed me my coffee and looked a little perplexed that I asked for $.75 back (yes, because the Cappuccino is $.75 cheaper than the Kryptonite). I would think I would at least be entitled to that back. I was also a little puzzled since he said he'd take care of this drink for me (which usually means on the house), but I wasn't offered a full refund. I didn't need a full refund back, but the mixed messages had me confused. To his credit, he did ask if I was around here often and that he would make me a free one next time. I told him I'm actually not from the area. Quick summary... They were out of what I ordered, I was made another drink that wasn't that impressive, the server was very nice but seemed a little lost, forgetting to at least refund the difference of the two drinks. I'm actually really disappointed by the fact that this is a coffee place and the time that I decide to go with my family to order coffee, the espresso machine is broken so they literally could not make anything. Not to be mean or anything, but if you're a coffee place, shouldn't that be your priority machine to fix/to keep well-maintained at all times? Since we couldn't get a coffee, my mother order tea which was extremely watered down. She basically paid to drink hot water. The one good thing about our experience was that the cashier was very nice and friendly. He kept apologizing for the machine being broken and told us what options where available (aka drip coffee + tea). I honestly couldn't believe that I asked the girl at the register for a cup for water and she referred me to the water dispenser near the restrooms. They guys know how to roast! Coffee that is, but I would not turn down a slice of prime rib with that terrific coffee of theirs. This is my to go to spot for coffee now when I am at either Liberty Station NTC Park or at the Liberty Station Market. The Cafe au Lait is what I usually order, but it does not mean I go for an Americano or one of their Cold Brews from time to time. The Cafe au Laits have been on the money and the perfect drink for me because it offer that quality rich robust coffee flavor and smoothness added by the hot milk. It reminds me of the coffee use to make. The Americano is always strong yet smooth and easy on the palate and the cold brew is simply bliss. This is a great place to grab a coffee while at Liberty Station. I had an iced latte and it was great. My only criticism is that they didn't have whole milk or even 2%. The only choices were soy, almond, or oat. Luckily I don't mind soy milk, so it was no problem. The barista was super friendly and very kindly delivered the news about the milk to me. I'm obsessed with finding the perfect ice coffee here in San Diego. The one offered here at The WestBean Coffee Roasters is called the kryptonite and is infused with mint. The drink will cost $4.50 (ouch) and you can request for the kryptonite to be unsweetened. I really liked this ice coffee and even came back later (after a long lunch) to order a second one. The video I took is f the gentleman making a flat white coffee ($3.65) for my mom. She liked the coffee and said it was wonderfully creamy (this coming from a lactose intolerant person). Service was incredibly nice and helpful. The guy who took my owner gave me wonderful suggestions and took the time to answer my curious questions about their coffee shop. Grabbed a delicious coffee here on a whim, because it was the first coffee shop I saw while walking around the sea of food and drink purveyors. I ordered a large, iced, vanilla latte as my baseline "latte test" (if a coffee shop can't get a latte right, then they don't have a single coffee bean to stand on), and it - ultimately - came out delicious and smooth. The barista even warned me that there was a potential problem with the 2% milk (a slight smell, despite meeting the expiration date), and didn't want to risk me getting sick. I'm sure there would be some places that would whip up an off-smelling latte to serve their customers, so I definitely appreciated the forewarning. I asked to switch to whole milk, and they made a fresh latte without a hitch! So my taste-buds and my stomach thanks you for your coffee craft! I have tried the WestBean in Banker's hill several times. The quality of the coffee in this location is the same as that one. However, I feel there is nothing spectacular that sets WestBean apart from other cafes. I have tried the macchiato and cortado here. Both were nice but did not wow me. The mint cold brew tastes like toothpaste in my opinion. What it is difficult to determine which is worse. WestBean or Moniker. Even the customer service is the same in both locations. Tepid. We are a bit picky with our coffee when it comes to Nitro cold brew, so we asked the cashier a few questions in order to decide, she understood exactly what we were trying to find out and assured us that they use full body Columbian beans & not bright at all. They sell their own coffee beans if you would like to take them home to brew in the comfort of your own home. Will never come here again! Should be called TheWorstBean. I give 1 star for the caramel iced latte, which was very good. I came here on a Sunday morning when no one was here, and when the girl gave me my drink, it was overflowing with no lid on it. Okay, fine, only thing is I'm right-handed and at the moment my right arm is in a CAST. i.e., it's broken right now and I can only use my left hand at the moment which is super obvious. So it makes it kind of difficult to maneuver drinks, but whatever, I know how it is to work in the food service industry and I'm not the type to make a fuss. There were two sizes of lids next to the bar, and after trying one of them, I guess I picked the wrong one. So the girl behind the counter - still just blankly staring at me, not offering to help at all - tells me to take the other lid. Okay then...so I try that, then more coffee pours out (oh and by the way I just paid $5 for this coffee, and so far all of it is going down the drain). But the worst part is that the girl then puts her nasty fingers on my straw to I guess try and help?! I would never put my own fingers on my straw (and I know they're clean), let alone have someone else's. So I change the straw but am still struggling with the other size lid, and honestly I'm a super nice person but I had kind of had it at this point and asked the dude next to her to help me, saying I'm so sorry but my hand is in a CAST and I can't put it on. Oh and the whole time the barista girl was still staring at me blankly. Jesus Christ, what are these people thinking?! The only place I have ever had to put my own lid on is McDonald's where they have free refills. But the worst part about this place is their clueless attitude!! I like gingerbread lattes, so I figured why not try it. I was pleasantly surprised that this did not have an overpowering ginger taste. WAKE UP SIP I use to have a fascination with espresso. My body is no longer dependent on it and now I drink espresso for taste and occasionally to wake up. Prior to heading to the office I decided to stop in the Liberty Public Market around 7:30am to search for any morning goodies I can nibble on. Not all places were open BUT this place was open. I was tempted to order the Kryptonite (similar to a cold brew Mint Mojito) but pasted on the caffeine. Settled for a decaf latte.
