It's a local coffee shop with nice decorations. There are lots of spots to sit, and it has a very cozy environment!

There was an evening function here, here's how my experience went. AMBIANCE: Parking: Street parking, metered parking, garage parking. You got choices but it's gets pretty packed in (NO)rth (PARK). Seating: Inside seating, generally plenty of room, generally for 40 people. Vibes: North Park is a gem, one of the many wonderful pockets of San Diego - from the good eats and activities. The spot itself is pretty nice and spacious. I dig the mix of local and eclectic art. Great place to study or catch up with a friend. FOOD: Strawberry Matcha (Recommend) Deeelicious. Matcha is usually earthy and bitter but the strawberry concentration gives it a nice sweet mix. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Gene was great. He was friendly and knowledge about the menu. TL; DR OVERALL: 4.5 Stars. Fantastic. Great choices, delicious drinks, reasonable prices, and a pleasant experience. Though I came here during a non-regular time/experience, I still felt like I got a good pulse of it. I do have a lowkey soft spot for this spot as they do got some Filipino flavors here. Yes there are numerous coffee shops in SD but this ranks pretty high on my list. Best wishes to Gene and the Subterannean Coffee Boutiqe team! #FilipinoFoodMovement TIPS: *Check out their seasonal specials!

Crazy what a difference ONE single staff member can do to impact a business. This place is always busy and I've never felt the "local" service or vibe if that makes sense, but I decided to come back to order a sandwich and the lovely young man behind the counter was the sweetest, most helpful person ever (gen z kid with dark hair). He recommended me a drink that I absolutely loved, and the sandwich (which he himself made) was great. I couldn't understand how he was the only person working at the time I went to, yet I've never felt Subterranean more tranquil, and organized than ever before. Give him a raise!

Stopped in here for coffee & food on a Sunday. I ordered the spinach and cheese quiche, which came with a spicy red sauce. My boyfriend had a sandwich. Overall, I thought my quiche was really good & high quality. The sauce was great. My Ube drink was good. The sandwich was apparently okay, but nothing too special. I would say the prices are honestly kind of steep. There were no prices on the menu which was annoying. My small quiche was like $11?!? Really should've been like $7 or $8 for how small it was. The cashier at the front was a girl who wasn't very smiley or cheerful. She was kind of monotone, and we were still annoyed that there weren't any prices depicted on the menu besides add-ons before we ordered. I would knock a star down for just service. The place is still pretty big, and I like that there are spots to work from your computer. The tables had chess boards which were a nice touch. Very hipster north park vibe. The ground and venue was kind of dirty and old though & I think they should do some renovations relatively soon. The bottom white stand of the counter was covered in dirt & the grounds were kind of yucky. Looks like it used to be an old club?

Subterranean Coffee Boutique is a great spot--tasty sandwiches, good coffee, and a relaxed atmosphere that makes it easy to settle in and get work done with friends for a work from coffee shop day. The service is fast and staff are friendly!

    Iced Ube Latte

The iced Ube latte from delicious and refreshing. This coffee shop has fun vibes with a cool portrait of David Bowie and very eclectic. The barista was very chill and polite. Parking can be difficult since the city removed a lot of the parking on 30th Street for a bike lane.

big pieces of tomato. Probably canned salsa. Uncooked soft bacon. Overall terrible.

Food: 1/5 Ambience: 2/5 Service: 3/5 I had high hopes for Subterranean Coffee Boutique when I was looking for a place with more food options but it fell short. When I arrived, the place looked spacious but it was mostly empty, maybe it was because it was the day before Thanksgiving. I had tried other nearby places and they had line at the door so this was a bit telling. The decor didn't help either, it's dark, with red-painted walls, mismatched furniture, and minimal natural light. Or at least it's not my vibe. Some might like it. The real disappointment and main reason for my review was the food and cleanliness (refer to pictures). I ordered a breakfast burrito, and it was one of the worst I've had. The bacon wasn't fully cooked, and the salsa tasted like it came from a can, with big chunks of tomato and a poor ratio. To make matters worse, when I asked for a fork, I was given one that clearly hadn't been cleaned, it had chocolate or some kind of residue on the back, which was a major red flag for their hygiene standards. This completely threw me off, and I ended up leaving reminder of the food untouched. The only good part was the nice cashier who took my order, which is why I'm giving this place two stars instead of one. I hope they take feedback like this seriously specially around kitchen hygiene as this is absolutely not acceptable to pass dirty dishes to your customer. Unfortunately, I won't be coming back.

This coffee shop is super cute. I loved the merchandise they were selling in the front of the store. I was excited to try this place but when I came in there was no one around at all. I waited about ten mins and even called them before someone finally appeared from the back. My drink was delicious but way too hot! I had to wait a long time and still burned my mouth. The pastry I got was also tasty but kind of stale. This place has great potential but definitely not quite there.

    Ube Coffee

I stopped by around 1 PM on a Saturday after finding this spot through the Walkabout app, which offers local perks with a monthly subscription. With it, I got a complimentary Ube coffee--and it was seriously delicious. The space is super cute inside and a nice escape from the heat. There's plenty of seating, including tables with chess boards, which was a fun touch. The staff was incredibly friendly and made me feel welcome right away. Parking can be tricky, but that's just North Park. I'll definitely be back.

Cute interior design. Good place to relax, chat, or study/work Ordered their signature Vanilla latte to go and it didn't disappoint. It's definitely sweeter than most but balanced perfectly with the strong coffee :) Cheers, Subterranean!

This ube cold brew was an explosion of flavor for my taste buds! I will definitely be stopping by subterranean coffee to get more of this and try some of the delicious food options.

The owner replied to my last review saying it's weird that I know his name but he doesn't know mine. Well obviously you aren't going to know every one of your customers. What's actually weird is that he didn't address any of my valid complaints and that he apparently only hires females.

Iced Matcha Latte with oat milk.
    Kanya D.

I love the vibe of this coffee shop retro/vintage feel. Its super nostalgic with the decor setup, it's awesome and they have a pinball machine that I can play with. I'm always trying something new here. I got their matcha iced and it was super strong in caffeine content. It was really tasty. One of my favorite iced coffee is their white blackberry mocha, it's so good. One time I got really hungry and I order the Baja club sandwich, I was not disappointed. It reminded me of a home made sandwich. Super simple and delicious. All the staffs are always nice and helpful. Stop by the next time you are in North Park.

I use a 3-strike rule when I go out because having worked in food service I understand stuff happens, but this was not just a one-off. Firstly, the man that took our order was rude, there wasn't anyone behind us waiting to order and the cashier spoke SO fast and cut me off multiple times. I felt rushed but whatever. I ordered the stuffed French toast and added bacon, eggs, and hash-browns with a latte, my fiance got the chicken fried steak with scrambled eggs and black coffee. The latte was really good, and the hot coffee was great according to my fiancé. We waited close to 45 minutes for our food, they were busy obviously, as it was a Sunday morning, but we watched a few other couples get their food before ours. We got everything we ordered except my eggs and bacon, which the food runner said would be "right out". While I waited I ate half of my hashbrowns, which were lukewarm, I wanted to eat my eggs with the hashbrowns so I waited. I ended up waiting 10 minutes before I got up to ask an employee to check on my food, as I received only half of what I ordered and had been waiting so long. He went back and brought my eggs and bacon, but go figure, the food wasn't hot! None of what I ordered was hot, so clearly the food had been sitting. You would think after waiting so long for your food it would've been fresh. Lastly, there were pieces of egg shell sprinkled across my stuffed French toast. How does that even happen unless they were cracking eggs near my food or had egg shells allover their hands. The stuffed French toast was good after I picked out all of the egg shells, and I couldn't finish all of it, so I asked an employee who was restocking glasses where I could get a to-go box. He told me to ask the cashier 6 feet away, and that the boxes are behind him, but the cashier had a line to the door so obviously I didn't want to bother him. I ended waiting until the guy was restocking glasses directly in front of the to-go boxes and he got me one. All in all, terrible customer service, lukewarm food, long wait, and very much not worth the $75, and I wish we could take our tip back, that you pay BEFORE receiving any service.

I called yesterday and they told me he had already left for the day, and I called this morning and after a bit I was able to get ahold of him. He kept interrupting me while I was trying to explain to him what actually happened. He was rude and condescending during the call. I explained to him that when I tried to exchange the mango smoothies for an actual agua Fresca that I had actually initially ordered and paid for, that his employee took them and refunded me before he explained to me that he was going to refund me. I was trying to exchange 2 of the 3 I had bought and paid for. But the employee took them and tossed them into the trash behind the counter before he told me he wouldn't sell me anything else and kicked me out. At the same time, my son was outside with the drink he decided to keep and we didn't try to exchange. When the employee kicked me out I told him I was trying to buy others, but he wouldn't let me, told me to get out, so I left and told him I'd be leaving a review. For some reason he refunded me all 3 aguas ($15). I never asked for any of that, he just did it. It seemed that the owner and the employee both had an issue with the fact that my son kept the drink that he had outside. I'm really not sure what they expected me to do after I was kicked out. Did they want me to take it from him and throw it away? This has all been a very strange set of interactions. Luckily Señor Mangos and Anakin's aren't too far away. I can head there and order sugarless agua frescas and have never had an issue the dozens of times we've been there, either with the service of the taste. They are delicious and always so kind.
