3 stars for my drink, the Tropical Matcha but 4 stars for my overall visit. The Tropical Matcha had coconut which I would've preferred to have a stronger flavor of coconut. After couple of sips and stirring, I finally found hints of it but again, wish was stronger. My fiance tried a Lacuma latte which had a scoop of that ice cream in there; wow it was super good! I am definitely coming back for that. The girl who took and made our order was extremely nice and helpful with recommendations. Cute shop.

I was killing some time and looking for some coffee and found this place via Yelp. Funny enough, I had been to this location before when it was under a different name. Pros: -free Wi-Fi -free shared parking lot -large empanadas that are filling -I asked for a recommendation for my drink and ended up getting the drink that has espresso and ice cream. It was delicious, of course. Cons: -n/a

Been here a few times, and it has improved every time I've been. Get the iced Peruvian coffee, it's the unique specialty. Very bold and strong! The owner and baristas are supercool and helpful. If you have work to do, great quiet place with a good parking situation. Going to try the food next time. Try it out!

I wanted to give this Peruvian breakfast place a try and OMG I'm so glad I went. I had their Lucuma frappe and my friend tried their signature drink Lucuma iced; and of course I had to order Peruvian tamales to complement it. It was sooo delicious! I'd def recommend this place for authentic Peruvian bites and drinks

    Cheese danish

A must try! Amazing coffee and danishes! I absolutely love having this place in my neighborhood. Quiet little place, great for sitting inside or a quick to go. The danishes are absolutely amazing, very flaky and flavorful. I ALWAYS have to grab a cheese and fruit danish when I go, even if just to keep for later. The coffee is such a great selection; the Peruvian Lecuma is a must try! The staff is super friendly and amazing customer service. If you are in the area you must try this place. You won't be disappointed,

Got the Peruvian lacuma iced coffee wow 10/10. Strong! Flavored coffee, sweet fluffy top. My perfect drink. Will choose this over Starbucks any day in the future. Can't wait to try more!

We were on our way to Costco when I saw a coffee flag flapping in the wind. Coffee wasn't even on my radar, but we found ourselves instantly turning into the parking lot. This is a very cute and clean Peruvian style coffee shop. They carry all of the standards, but also a couple of Peruvian specialties. I went for the Lacuma Latte and loved it! My fiancé got the Peruvian Lacuma Latte which had more espresso and the milk was condensed milk. Both were super yummy, the condensed milk version was a bit sweeter. BTW- Lacuma is a Peruvian fruit and the drinks were recommended by the very nice girl at the counter. The shop also sells a couple of Peruvian sauces, empanadas, and cookies. I really like this place and hope that it does well. It's a little off the beaten path.

    Avocado Toast & Cortado

This is a great South American inspired coffee shop. It's in the location were the Humble Bean Cafe use to be. The new owners are offering up terrific coffee beans from Peru that are roasted locally. I had a cortado, which Cindy, the barista, made with stellar results. The cortado was robust in coffee flavor and smooth and rich. It was just the way I like it. It was $4.30. I also had the avocado toast, which came with freshly sliced avocado, crushed black pepper, sea salt, tomatoes, and a spring green mix served on a locally baked artisan whole wheat toast for $9. I loved the bread choice. It was not only tasty, but had a great texture. The sea salt in the mix was great, but I do think they should consider using a micro green inn lieu of the large leaf, for ease of eating and handling. Most of the lettuce kept falling off the toast. The service was very good. Cindy, not only made a great cortado, but was very friendly and offered great conversation. The place offers a good amount of inside seating and some outside seating, right outside and across the parking lot as well. I look forward to returning.

I tried the Lucuma iced coffee and it was a really nice surprise. Smooth, creamy, and naturally sweet. Also, service and ambience TOP Definitely something different in the best way, I'd gladly order it again.

This place is legitimately one of the best coffee spots in San Diego, with amazing drinks, food, and service. We've been three times and every time we keep saying we want to go back. If you go you have to try the Peruvian lucuma coffee. It's basically a coffee with a sweet ice cream added in to make it extra creamy with a slight fruity flavor. So so good. They also have a regular lucuma coffee without the ice cream if you want something less dessert, but we prefer the ice cream one! This time we tried their Peruvian pumpkin latte from their fall menu, and we were very impressed. It is still so creamy with that good coffee flavor underneath, but with an added pumpkin/fall flavor on top. Definitely recommend it! We also tried their ham and cheese croissant, which was excellent and everything you could want: flaky croissant, buttery cheese and ham. We also got the breakfast burrito with the soyrizo and that was just as good. It came with a tasty salsa to put on top too! The employees are very nice and helpful here, and we've met the owner before who is also very kind!! You have to pay this spot a visit, they're a woman-owned small business with great food/drinks and a cute atmosphere with decorations all themed around Peru!

This place feels like a hidden gem and I'm glad I found it! I asked a friend who lived in SD if they had any recommendations for coffee in the area since I had an appointment on Saturday afternoon. She said Inka'fe was suggested by her cousin so I decided to check it out! I ordered online which was fairly easy. The tres leches pumpkin latte stood out and ordered that! The drink was good although I could barely taste the pumpkin, I still enjoyed it. They had a lot of great options that I wanted to try them all. The cafe itself is small but lovely. I would so come back to try their empanadas. Overall a great place to grab coffee!

    empanadas.
    Teaira L.

empanadas i don't recommend. They were still cold inside and had an egg inside which was different. It wasn't good at all mainly for the price of $7 very overpriced. I can't speak on the drinks since i didn't have anything but the inside of this coffee shop is nice but horrible empanadas. The lady working was nice good service but yeah.

Lucuma Iced Coffee made with really high quality espresso. Delicious!
    D L.

Inka'fe is a woman-owned small business that sources all the coffee beans from female-owned coffee growing farms in Perú. That is enough incentive to give them our business! We came looking for their famous Lucuma iced coffee that we saw them post on Instagram (@inkafesd). It was so amazing. Real high quality espresso used. We also got the Alfajores that are made by La Cucina di Silvana (Silvana Pastry Chef, also known for The Peruvian Spot San Diego. Great Peruvian restaurant). These Alfajores are always delicious and generous with the dulce de leche. The service at Inka'fe was really friendly and gracious. Bonus for being a dog friendly locale.

I thought the food was above average. I think it's great for a quick snack. I think it's great if you're just passing by. But I wouldn't go out my way. I got two this morning. One lamb. One mushroom and cheese. Torn on which one is better. I think without the chimichurri sauce, the lamb was better. It was savory and rich. It felt well put together. But I added the sauce and it switched the flavor profile of it a bit too much. The mushroom and cheese one was the opposite. It didn't need the sauce but the sauce enhanced it quite a bit. The sauce was okay. I got the spicy one and it was more mild. I can only imagine what the mild version tasted like. Plenty of seats. Can fit maybe 30ish people inside and outside. It's a warm atmosphere / ambiance with it being yellow and white.

Empanadas are stuffed turnovers, originally from Spain and Portugal, and eaten widely across South America, including Argentina, Paraguay and also eaten in Mexico, Puerto Rico and the Phillipines too. They are a delight and delicious! This spot is an Argentinian place and I got 3 empanadas. They have many different stuffed options and I chose a beef, mushroom and spinach as my three. I asked how spicy the spicy beef one is and the very nice lady working said it was about 5/10, so I passed. She said it wad spicy, unfortunately, I cannot handle too spicy. So far, I have eaten the beef and spinach one and like them both. I was given chimichurri sauce, but I dont think I like this version, its a little too lemony for me. I like a more parsley forward chimichurri and this one too sour for me. For 3 empanadas, it was about $11, which isnt too bad! The empanadas are delicious and I will def be back again and again!!

I can only speak about my dish as I didn't have a taste of the other meal. I had the El Vainero (sweet corn pancake with Mano cheese, shredded beef, black beans and plantains). The flavors were so amazing together. You will just have to try it. I also ordered yuca fries. The three types of "sauces" were mild, medium, and hot. All three were tasty in their own way and I enjoyed all of them with the yuca fries and towards the end of my meal, it added a little kick to my dish. As for beverages, we had water and I ordered the hot chocolate. I know, hot chocolate, but it was so good. I love an authentic cup of hot chocolate with a bit of real whip cream and some cinnamon. In all, our experience at Encuentro Cafe was great from the service to the food. It is very intimate and we ate in the covered patio. It was as it would be eating outside with tropical decor. Not crowded and noise level as it would be eating in an enclosed patio, not too noisy with the sounds of Old Town patrons walking/driving down the street. I will definitely look forward to visiting this restaurant again when I visit San Diego.

As a Colombian who has been craving authentic Colombian cuisine since my last visit to New York in…read moreDecember, I can confidently say this restaurant truly satisfied those cravings. Being nearly eight months pregnant, my expectations were especially high, and it is rare to find a place that meets them so well. From the seasoning of the food to the warm and attentive service, everything about this restaurant stands out. Although I don't recall my server's name, he was incredibly kind and provided excellent service throughout. The ambiance is also worth noting--the space is large, offers plenty of seating options, and even features a large TV, making it a great spot to relax or watch sports. To start, I ordered a watered mango juice along with a beef empanada. The empanada exceeded my expectations--despite being on the smaller side, it was packed with flavor. I enjoyed it so much that I ordered five more to go, which speaks for itself. They were served with fresh ají, a traditional sauce that complemented them perfectly. For my main course, I had the carne asada plate, which included steak, rice, beans, sweet plantains, avocado, tomato slices, and a small arepa. Every component of the dish was well-executed--the beans were flavorful, the meat was well-seasoned, and the overall plate felt authentic. It is often difficult to find truly authentic Colombian food, especially in San Diego, where options are limited or not genuinely Colombian. This restaurant, however, delivers on authenticity and flavor. The portion size was generous, and I ended up taking leftovers home to enjoy later. In addition to the empanadas (two chicken and three beef), I also ordered a buñuelo and a cheese arepa to go. Unfortunately, these items did not meet the same standard. The arepa lacked flavor and was overly greasy, and the buñuelo was dry and similarly oily, even after absorbing excess grease from the bag. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for Colombian food, especially given how rare it is to find quality options in this area. Friends of mine visited recently as well and thoroughly enjoyed their bandeja paisa, further confirming the consistency of the food. I will definitely be returning--especially for those empanadas.
