I was excited to try Black Rock Coffee Bar after passing it daily for months on my way to work, but my experience was a bit disappointing. Sidenote: I may be to blame as I was in a rush ordering and perhaps this chain only serves iced coffee?? I've come to the conclusion that no one in San Diego knows how to make a cappuccino. After the initial shock of hearing my total, I knew I would be disappointed as soon as the employee handed me my "cappuccino" filled to the top with liquid. Basically a $9 latte that was the color of chalk due to the amount of milk and lack of espresso. Personally, I like the taste of coffee/espresso and am in it for the caffeine, so I think that this place is more for people that like cute looking tasty drinks vs traditional coffee. read more

The service here is amazing! All of the employees were super friendly and welcoming. I went through the drive-thru order line with only one car ahead of me, and it took just a couple of minutes to get my drink. A nice bonus is that if you download the app, they give you a free medium rewards drink, which is a pretty cool perk for first-time customers. I ordered the: *Mexican Mocha Protein Latte: unfortunately I wasn't a fan of it because it was much too sweet for my taste. I placed my order through the app and didn't see an option to adjust the sweetness level, which would have been helpful. Even though I didn't love the drink I chose, the excellent service and quick experience would definitely bring me back. This chain coffee business has taken over a legacy hot dog stand in PB with no modifications to the structure except for a different paint combination and updated branding. It's much easier to access while going eastbound on Garnet Ave. The drive thru setup remained intact with the vehicle pathway bisecting the middle of the building. Several on-site parking spaces were available if you wanted to walk up to the service window to order like I did. Four round tables with canopy cover were arranged next to the window. Coffee and espresso were not the only beverages on the menu. Chillers, fizzes, smoothies, shakes, smoothies, and teas were the other offerings. All-day savory and sweet breakfast items were the food categories. I selected a medium Sweet Tea with mango flavor and a Chorizo Breakfast Sandwich for my order. The tea was fairly sweet while the mango addition was mild. The sandwich was basically a Sausage Egg McMuffin but with a chorizo patty instead. It was heated up and then wrapped in foil. The product was fairly unremarkable. If you used the drive thru, then the U-shaped driveway made sense. However, if you parked in a space, then getting off the property was a challenge because of the marked arrows on the pavement. Merging with the oncoming traffic on Garnet Ave was tricky too. So I heard Black Rock was south county's equivalent to Dutch Bros. Now I'm a tad out of the target demographic; I'm aware both are mainly for senior high school and college ages but my daughter who is in that demographic insists I am in the loop for these coffee places. That said, Black Rock was decent. I got a fizzy drink with no Red Bull b/c I'm too dang old for Red Bull but they accidentally added it. They quickly fixed it so no issue. Nice staff, friendly and talkative. The drive-thru was fast and convenient. My daughter said her drink was "decent". I would go back next time I'm in the area to avoid the Starbucks regime. read more

Not too sweet, not too icy, just smooth and addictive. The team inside was quick and made my order perfectly. This seasonal drink is the star of the menu right now for me. This place is a little hard to get to if your coming the opposite way so be aware of that when your coming! It is also a former Weinerschitzel so you will recognize the building! First the good: the staff were friendly and kind, and gave us suggestions and tips! The building and art is beautiful. I've been wondering what was going to go in here since they started fixing it up! The service was also super quick for how busy it was which is always appreciated. Now the not so good: the coffee is mediocre for the price. 17 dollars for a large with an add shot and a small is steep. I expect the coffee to be phenomenal but it was just alright. My fiance loved the Iced Milano seasonal, and I did too! But I was disappointed in my iced peppermint bark. The peppermint is very fake tasting. First time here ! Downloaded the app signed up for rewards and received a free medium welcome drink. I tried the Iced blonde. The flavor is good but lacks the coffee taste I like so next time I would ask to add a shot of espresso. The employees are friendly , they definitely have a laid back Aloha like vibe. I've driven by here multiple times and finally stopped So happy I did. Tip: you must enter on the side street Ok now that is out of the way let's get to it I have to say the best past was the staff. Thaddeus was AMAZING. I asked what I should get. He recommended a Red Bull drink. I do t do caffeine so then he recommended the blackout. I got it iced and decaf. It is hazelnut and mocha. And I have to say it is one of the best things that I've had in a long time. I also got a blueberry muffin on his recommendation, and it was light and moist. So let's go back to Thaddeus. He was personable, helpful, and knowledgeable about the product. It was really a pleasure speaking with him. The line was long when I got there, but it moved super fast. They have people out front taking orders, kind of like Chick-fil-A I will definitely go back. So happy they were able to get this location open definitely a plus in PB I just went through the drive-through, but I know that they do have some outdoor seating as well. I would expect some road noise since it's right on the road, but it also seemed like a nice sunny spot to sit on a beautiful spring day. read more

I went for my first time to this location today. First of all, the line was so long but I kid you not, I was out of the line within 15 min. It was such quick service!! The wait line was very well organized and they have an employee outside taking order so by the time you get to the window, it's ready! All the staff was friendly and very conversational. I choose to get a Mexican mocha (on the rocks) and it was great but it would have been better with oat milk as I hate the milk taste. I also tried the bacon bites and they were not only so delicious but they were a very generous size. I will definitely be coming back to try out another drink. read more

Worst experience ever! The little girl that "helped" us was so very rude. We waited over 20 mins for our drinks. Our names weren't called. Half my order was out. The little girl was unfriendly and extremely rude. When I asked why 15 cars and 6 walk ups all got their drinks before ours when we placed our order thru the app she shrugged her shoulders and said they were trying to get all the drinks out. I'll start with the drink, I got an iced hazel x vanilla shaken espresso with oat milk.. delicious! However, my main review will be for the incredibly sweet and patient cashier. I had boxing at 5 am and my brain was not firing on all cylinders afterward... I went to the drive thru and completely blanked about not having my wallet. This gal helped me figure out Apply Pay (I felt 80 y.o. at this point...), add a card, verify... my god it felt like 7 hours sitting there trying to get my card connected.
