I've been to Talullas several times and I can honestly say, I've yet to have a less than excellent meal. Last time I went, the service staff seemed a little overwhelmed and the owner's toddler son was running around making an adorable nuisance of himself; the service suffered a bit as a result but the meal was spot-on as usual. read more

What a find! We were new to Chapel Hill and arrived late on Sunday night. We happened into Talulla's at 9 p.m. and were completely blown away! We had spent some time in Turkey, so we were familiar with some of the dishes, but our waiter, Sia (also the restaurant's sommelier) filled in all the blanks. The food was superb; the service was attentive without being obsequious; and the ambiance enticing. Sia even gave us recommendations for places to go in Chapel Hill. I will recommend this place to anyone planning to visit. I am only sorry we missed the live music! My wife and I just returned to Tallula's after over a year of absence. It has always been one of our favorites, but we'd fallen out of the habit. Wow, we realized what we have been missing! Within minutes we remembered why we think this is one of the best in the area. Our appetizers were fantastic, enough for a full meal; the wine was terrific; and the entrees (sea bass and vegetable casserole) were off the charts. This place has great food. The dipping sauce with the bread was a hit. I loved the Manti Steamed dumplings stuffed with ground lamb and beef in a yogurt & garlic sauce. It was so delicious. Then I tried the Lahmacun which was a light pizza (really thin crust) with lamb which was full of flavor. My husband had chicken kebabs in a yogurt gravy which was decent. There was a lot of yogurt but we loved the flavor. The creme chocloate was super yum. I had a happy meal. The place has rugs hanging on the walls and the decor has a Mediterranean feel. read more

The food is comparable to what we enjoyed in Turkey. The red lentil soup was outstanding. We enjoyed the mezze platter, all of which was excellent. They even have real Turkish tea, but unfortunately not real Turkish tea glasses. We will return. read more

I went to Talullas with my husband this saturday and the service was ok, but we didn't really like the food. I agree with the other reviews: it is overpriced and it is not authentic turkish at all. We order the iskender which was a 20dl "special entree" and it was really bad. I think for this price you can get better food in many other restaurants. read more

Great service. The food was quite nice, but by far my favorite part was the bread basket with dipping sauce. I need to find out if there's a way I can go in for the bread & sauce as a snack. We went for the first time for lunch on a Sunday. The service was great, and the food was wonderful. You know when the bread and dip are the best things you've eaten all week that you're in for something good! We both had salads - fresh and beautifully seasoned - then a lamb wrap and the meat dumplings, which were really delicious. More bread and dip was brought as we were trying to get every last morsel of sauce from our plates. We left feeling very full, but the food isn't heavy at all. I hadn't been to Tallula's in about a year and a half, but in the past month I've been twice. I highly recommend the hummus, baba ganoush, the lentil soup. The other items on the vegetarian mezze are pretty good, and I am a glutton for the free bread. It's especially nice to eat there when it's not too crowded. read more

I think that the food here is fabulous and the atmosphere is nice whether you sit in or out. The small plates are wonderful and the is good selection of vegetarian dishes. The bread that they bring to the table is like nothing I've had before. The drinks are fantastic and make sure you cap it off with some Turkish coffee. My girlfriend loved the place and I was the hero. We are going back this weekend and I am going to try the Turkish pizzas. This place is a little gem. read more

This place must have the largest cost/value gap in Chapel Hill (and that's saying something). You can count on meager, boring, and oddly repetitive dishes at truly astonishing prices. The yoghurt drink for $2 is the only thing on the menu that approximates reality. There is simply nothing in the food to justify the pretentious bill your server will politely deliver. Nothing. Walk down the block to the Mediterranean Deli for better and more ample fare at 1/3 the cost. Won't do this one again. read more

My favorite spot on west Franklin. Delicious dishes, especially the Doner served only on Friday and Saturday. Easy parking thanks to curbside valet. Great service too, we come so often they know us. Outside sidewalk dining for those warm nights. read more

I also have to update my review and sadly lower the stars, as they need to uplift their service to deliver better and more consistently, as others have suggested. Also, on a recent holiday visit, they charged higher prices for a special menu and substituted disappointing blander plain sliced chicken instead of the typical grilled chicken kabob pieces that was how the dish was represented when ordering. Our party was quite disappointed. Charging more for special menus and taking short cuts is never a formula for gaining customer loyalty. In general, their chicken breast kabobs usually are lacking sufficient spices and not marinated long enough to be as delicious as another Turkish restaurant we visit in Cary. I think this could be an easy fix, and I hope they can improve that. Nights with special fixed menus are a big disappointment here in general, and not a good representation of what this restaurant is capable of delivering. I would definitely avoid those events. Other meals are usually well prepared in general, but the service quality you receive is likely a role of the dice. Also deserts tend to not be as good as other middle eastern options in the area. The baklava is too small, dry, and can not compete with much better textures and flavors at select other local restaurants, especially those which serve great fresh pistachio baklava... It is also not as fun to drink the Turkish tea in western style cups here vs. Using Turkish tea glasses that most other Turkish restaurants use... read more

I was late for my reservation because of a flat tire the day before Valentine's Day. They could have given away the table but they called first. When I said I was on my way - a half hour late - they kept the reservation anyway. The food is as wonderful as the service. Highly recommend. read more

Have eaten there several times since it opened and most recently a few days ago with some friends. Have never been disappointed. Had to change our reservation once the same night. They were very accommodating. We are both good cooks and recognize delicious food and it was was delicious. Service was great. The owner checked with us several times to make sure that we were well taken care of. Atmosphere was warm and the beautiful rugs in the walls are changed out every month (as the owners told us). They were setting up later for some music, would loved to have stayed. Prices are reasonable for great food. read more

For food the mezze platter is a great way to start, it was the best part of the meal along with the bread and dipping sauce. I had the Adana Kebabı for my main, which was alright, but nothing to write home about. I was in Istanbul last summer, and I promise you that this place is the real deal. They have Iskender kebab and Sultan's delight...dishes that were rare to find together in Turkey but deliciously prepared at this restaurant.
