I'm a fan. This is a great spot to go watch a game and eat some good bar food, play billiards, sit by a fire, and have a chill date. It's also super random because it's attached to a Holiday Inn Express in the middle of nowhere in Mill Valley. So, you need to be super intentional or super accidental to find this place. Anyway, the setup in fun. The vibe is lively. Lots of tvs. Lots of bar seating. Reservations inside or outside. Pool tables. Some loungy couch seating mixed in, as well. You can wear what you want, but it's sporty casual. Don't sleep on the menu, though. They may hVe chicken wings and fries and other gametime staples, but this menu is next level. Those Vietnamese fried chicken wings are a MUST HAVE. So many different flavors and textures, and they are delicious. The ajax fries are nice, but I wouldn't write home about them. Here's a hack: You can order plain fries and save money. As for the Peruvian tuna crudo, the leche de tigre left a bit to be desired. It just wasn't sour enough for my taste, but it was an okay dish. I just wouldn't order it again. Great drink menu, and the bartender will also do custom drinks if you have a Go-To (whiskey sour) . The staff is super friendly and helpful. For a hot moment after Floodwater opened it seemed to generate a lot of buzz but that moment wore off and it's now not a place I hear anything about, ever. This made me interested to try it for a recent happy hour. Clearly, they were still in business so they must be doing something right. Advance research indicated that they had a decent happy hour offering (M-F 4-6PM) so I arranged a visit around that and found myself well-satisfied by their Smash Burger, mini-corn dogs, fries, Vietnamese wings, and a Chicken Slider. Though the offerings were good, the array of fatty foods left me feeling like I'd spent a day at the county fair. Floodwater was neat, clean, and quiet and my observation was that they need a whole lot bigger crowd to fill the space and give it an energy it was very much lacking on this visit. Still, it struck me as a good place to watch sports (many TVs) and an even better place to play table-shuffleboard or pool. Though I wasn't wowed by anything going on at Floodwater the friend I'd been there with recently suggested we return and it's an offer I'm up for. Sometimes fatty happy hour food and cocktails in a nice, clean space are all that's required when watching the Giants or shooting pool. read more

What should have been a predominantly adult destination was flooded with children, both inside and out. Parents seemed to be completely oblivious. Really want to like this place as they have an excellent setup for a sports bar and good beer. The food is another story and they need to work on it. Got the fried chicken (2 pieces plus mash potatoes and cole slaw). First warning sign was that my meal came out in less than 5 minutes. Mash potatoes were excellent, cole slaw was meh but who cares, but the fried chicken had obviously been sitting around awhile....meat was tough, dry, overcooked. So disappointing. I have also had an order of their wings on a previous visit that were tiny, expensive, and not that great. Found this gem of a place while traveling back home. I was out of town working on a project, so I stayed in mill valley. This place is located next to the beautiful holiday inn next door. I tried the pizza and had 3 of their beers. Definitely amazing food and the beer was great as well. Will definitely stop by next time. I'm around the area. read more

Came in on a weekday when they first opened. Place is super nice inside, great to hang out with friends. Huge bar and lots of seating throughout. Food was bleh... they had a ton of staff, with just two customers. So I assume they get pretty busy later in the day. Service was a bit slow for only have 2 tables in the place. Pretty pricey for the amount of food and the lackluster presentation. I think with a menu revamp, they could really knock it outta the park. I was concerned pulling up to this place seeing as it looks to be part of a Holiday Inn Express, but was happy to find it doesn't seem to be affiliated outside of the shared parking and similar exterior design. The interior was large with a great ambiance/atmosphere (probably the best thing going for this place). I wasn't overtly impressed with the beers on tap as most are "standard" for the area, but they did have a decent number which is what I'd expect from this type of establishment. The food was okay; mostly fried / bar style - which is fine if that is what you're in the mood for -- good portion sizes at reasonable prices (given it's Marin). Service was fine; nothing spectacular but also not terrible. I'd come here again if in the area and wanting that sports bar/tavern vibe. read more

After checking out some of the sights at Marin Headlands, we were on the search for a late lunch. After a quick Yelp search, hubs found Floodwater and we decided to check it out. He called to ask if reservations were needed, and we were told walk-ins were welcome so we headed on over. The inside of the restaurant, which is closed to indoor dining, is very well decorated and welcoming. Need to come back when indoor dining resumes. The outdoor area was spacious, clean, and had quite a few tables. There weren't too many people when we arrived so we had quite a few tables to choose from. Our server was very friendly, attentive, and checked on us often. After looking through the menu and asking for recommendations, we ordered the following and they all arrived at the same time: 1) Soft pretzels - There were 2 pretzels served with a cheese stout sauce. The pretzels were covered in melted butter and served somewhat warm. Quite honestly, my preference would have been to start with these and to have had them hotter. The flavor of the pretzel was ok; the cheese sauce, unfortunately, didn't have a lot of flavor. 2) Ajax Tavern Fries - Now, these were served hot and crispy with Parmesan shavings on top. These were good! They're hand cut fries, and the truffle flavor was perfect. Yum! 3) Braised beets salad - I was craving veggies and this was it. The plate looks small, but it is really filling. Really like the different components together. Was surprised how it filled me up. Might have liked a little more of the dressing on the side. 4) Korean Fried Chicken - Although hubs already decided on this dish, this was a dish recommended by our server. When it arrived, it looked like fried pork chops but, no, they're just really big pieces of fried chicken. Hubs let me taste. The chicken was so crispy and juicy - very good flavor! Incredibly impressed with their bar program, there are few restaurants and bars in the area with complex and top-shelf cocktails at this caliber for $14. I was honestly not expecting much when we pulled into Floodwater's parking lot and saw it was part of a Holiday Inn Express, but we were hungry, it was on our way home, and it was getting late and other restaurants had closed. When we walked in there were lots of kids running around the pool table area but we were glad the hostess sat us closer to the bar where the vibe was chill. The beet salad was surprisingly good, the Reuben sandwich was rather bland but there was a generous amount of meat, and the gar lic fries seemed to be fresh made. The service was by far the part that made the experience excellent! I started choking on a bite of pickle. Our waiter, Gabriel, was taking the order from another table and noticed i was in distress and that my partner was concerned. He immediately came over ready to administer the Heimlich maneuver but also checked with me calmly to see what help I needed. When I was able to breath again on my own, Gabriel made sure I was ok and quickly returned to helping the other table. He checked on me two other times before we paid our bill, including refilling the hot water for my tea, making sure I was ok but also having some good humor which helped me feel less awkward. A place full of screaming unmanaged children at all hours of the day. Two latkes took them 15 minutes and our waiter despite having our drinks, looked at our table and just...walked back to the bar. I saw the bartender using the same shaker for like 5 very different drinks and it's took them a while to even bother seating us despite it being pretty empty - and then they didn't clean the floor underneath my table so I nearly sat on old food. The food we ate was pretty good though, burger was well cooked and our appetizers were tasty. I've been here twice and both times the service and ambiance was bad. Wouldn't recommend. read more

My now wife, and I came here to look for a place to hold our pre-wedding family dinner. The food and service was better than our expectations so we ended up making reservations in a private dining area for 23+ people. This place kind of has a upscale sports bar type of vibe. The only issue we had for our family dinner was, the service was a tad slow, and we only had 1 server for most of our dinner. Had more wait staff later on. The best time I had was meeting a friend for drinks and apps and sitting at the side rail with Mo. She's a wonderful server, also Eric the bartender was really friendly and professional. I love the popcorn, sliders, and wings. The Obligatory Vodka drink and the Anejo Honey Sour are both excellent cocktails. The TV's are not too distracting with the sound off and I appreciated that. The host looked a bit concerned as to where in the world he was going to put us. The place was packed. People were celebrating. They had a ton of busers and food runners. They all wear black Floodwater shirts so it's easy to spot them. My cousin's chicken was dry as was my fish. Not as good as other things on the menu. Our server was very sweet. One of the people next to us was really drunk and loud. Then another inebriated man started talking to everyone on his way to the bathroom. There used to be a wall there, missed it last night. We were staying at the hotel next door and wanted an easy commute to dinner. Walking down the parking lot couldn't be easier so we chose Floodwater. I wish I had been hungrier because the Rueben that I ordered was fantastic - and huge! The fries were okay, not my favorite, but that's okay. I felt the service was a little slow. My travel companion ordered the "burger" (that's what it says on the receipt) and loved it but also thought that the fries were just okay. All in all if I lived near here I'd definitely be in again, they had a lot of interesting things on the menu and the restaurant had a good vibe. read more

OK wow... Just had dinner here earlier this evening. Haven't been here in over a year so took my sister here for her first time because I love the pork belly buns. I don't have any big complaints about the food; she enjoyed her ramen and my French dip was OK (the meat was sooooper tender but all in all quite boring and tasteless sando for almost $25). I am compelled to leave this review based solely on the abysmal performance, attitude and personality of the entire wait staff, including the bartender. I literally had to get up from the table each time I needed anything-- from salt and pepper, horseradish (which took ten minutes of arguing with 3 people just to get any), a to-go box as well as the check. The only thing brought to us without having to ask for numerous times was more water. UNbelievable. Every staff on the floor was unhelpful, unpleasant, argumentative, never checked in throughout the entire meal, and overtly rude to boot. I didn't even recognize our waiter at the very end because he was never at our table. The Latina gal with the long reddish dyed hair was awful and never smiled. None did. This was NOT the case when I was here several times albeit over a year ago. I like the atmosphere, overall vibe, the original idea and the broken $11,000 fire display insert... But really, the food is not good enough to make up for such BAD service. It's a big part of the experience and tonight's was a bomb. Looks like I'm certainly not the only one to say so. God awful service. We went here from out of town to enjoy a nice day out for my birthday. We read great reviews and decided to stop by for dinner. With three young children, going out is a rare treat. Needless to say, everyone was excited to have a nice dinner out. We ordered some drinks and kids' items. The kids' food came out within 15-20 minutes. After 30 minutes of being there, we had to physically flag down our oblivious waiter. We put in our order and proceeded to wrangle three children who were done eating and very antsy. As respectable people who understand that the service industry is not easy, we patiently waited for an entire hour. After a tireless hour, we had to flag down our waiter once again since he never bothered to once check in on us. We asked about the status of our order. His response was "what? Your order? Oh, umnm... what did you order?" Several minutes later, he came back and told us that our order supposedly was taken to a wrong table, which is obviously a complete lie, because what table would eat an entirely wrong order? He tells us it will be a bit of a wait. We declined and asked for the bill. After 1.5 hours wasted, we left hungry and frustrated. No apologies from staff or the manager. Such a disappointment. Not sure how they received 4 stars on Yelp since the kids' food was mediocre at best. read more

We had 2 small plates: the Hamachi Crudo and Braised Beet salad and a side of creamed spinach. All were absolutely fantastic. The beer selection is large too. We will definitely be back. I recently had a few friends visit, and we decided to try Floodwater for their happy hour / dinner options. They have a nice outdoor seating area, which can get windy however. Depending on the season, it could be potentially chilly and their heat lamps did not do much for our day of visit. I love that they do happy hour every day however, even on weekends. Happy Hour Items: Smash Burger: This was a solid burger for $6. The flavors are rich, the burger was well cooked, and I enjoyed the overall preparation. House Cut Fries: Our fries were a nice pairing with the burgers and helped to pad the belly for all our drinks too. Beers: I like their beer selection! The draft pliny for $6 is a solid deal, and there's definitely a good variety to satiate your preference on beers. Cocktails: I tried a bit of the Quarantini and the El Diablo, both of which were solid cocktails. It's a bit on the lighter side for me, but considering the price it's fairly reasonable. Pizzas: We tried both their Positano and Salsiccia pizzas. Both were mediocre for my taste, lacking in a particular unique-ness to them. The pizzas could have been a bit crispier, but the topping portions are reasonable. Overall, Floodwater seems to be a solid happy hour choice. I'll definitely be back to try some other beverages here and enjoy another burger as well! read more
