I recently had a few friends visit, and we decided to try Floodwater for their happy hour / dinner options. They have a nice outdoor seating area, which can get windy however. Depending on the season, it could be potentially chilly and their heat lamps did not do much for our day of visit. I love that they do happy hour every day however, even on weekends. Happy Hour Items: Smash Burger: This was a solid burger for $6. The flavors are rich, the burger was well cooked, and I enjoyed the overall preparation. House Cut Fries: Our fries were a nice pairing with the burgers and helped to pad the belly for all our drinks too. Beers: I like their beer selection! The draft pliny for $6 is a solid deal, and there's definitely a good variety to satiate your preference on beers. Cocktails: I tried a bit of the Quarantini and the El Diablo, both of which were solid cocktails. It's a bit on the lighter side for me, but considering the price it's fairly reasonable. Pizzas: We tried both their Positano and Salsiccia pizzas. Both were mediocre for my taste, lacking in a particular unique-ness to them. The pizzas could have been a bit crispier, but the topping portions are reasonable. Overall, Floodwater seems to be a solid happy hour choice. I'll definitely be back to try some other beverages here and enjoy another burger as well! read more

OK wow... Just had dinner here earlier this evening. Haven't been here in over a year so took my sister here for her first time because I love the pork belly buns. I don't have any big complaints about the food; she enjoyed her ramen and my French dip was OK (the meat was sooooper tender but all in all quite boring and tasteless sando for almost $25). I am compelled to leave this review based solely on the abysmal performance, attitude and personality of the entire wait staff, including the bartender. I literally had to get up from the table each time I needed anything-- from salt and pepper, horseradish (which took ten minutes of arguing with 3 people just to get any), a to-go box as well as the check. The only thing brought to us without having to ask for numerous times was more water. UNbelievable. Every staff on the floor was unhelpful, unpleasant, argumentative, never checked in throughout the entire meal, and overtly rude to boot. I didn't even recognize our waiter at the very end because he was never at our table. The Latina gal with the long reddish dyed hair was awful and never smiled. None did. This was NOT the case when I was here several times albeit over a year ago. I like the atmosphere, overall vibe, the original idea and the broken $11,000 fire display insert... But really, the food is not good enough to make up for such BAD service. It's a big part of the experience and tonight's was a bomb. Looks like I'm certainly not the only one to say so. Was really surprised by how nice the place was -- Was confused at first thinking that this was the restaurant for Holiday Inn Express, but it is not. We got in time for the happy hour and sat at the bar and really was super well taken care of by the waitstaff. $6 smash burgers were great. God awful service. We went here from out of town to enjoy a nice day out for my birthday. We read great reviews and decided to stop by for dinner. With three young children, going out is a rare treat. Needless to say, everyone was excited to have a nice dinner out. We ordered some drinks and kids' items. The kids' food came out within 15-20 minutes. After 30 minutes of being there, we had to physically flag down our oblivious waiter. We put in our order and proceeded to wrangle three children who were done eating and very antsy. As respectable people who understand that the service industry is not easy, we patiently waited for an entire hour. After a tireless hour, we had to flag down our waiter once again since he never bothered to once check in on us. We asked about the status of our order. His response was "what? Your order? Oh, umnm... what did you order?" Several minutes later, he came back and told us that our order supposedly was taken to a wrong table, which is obviously a complete lie, because what table would eat an entirely wrong order? He tells us it will be a bit of a wait. We declined and asked for the bill. After 1.5 hours wasted, we left hungry and frustrated. No apologies from staff or the manager. Such a disappointment. Not sure how they received 4 stars on Yelp since the kids' food was mediocre at best. read more

We really wanted to love this place as we live in the area and have been looking for an easy go-to place for family dinners out. Food was sub-par at best. We ordered the pretzel, little gems salad, chx sliders, salsiccia pizza and veggie burger. Salad was average. Heavy creamy dressing which is unnecessary. Chicken sliders were the worst thing we ordered. We were served chicken nuggets on dry biscuits with a very vinegary coleslaw. The sauce that came along side was nothing special. Veggie burger was dry and dense. No thought put in to it. Fries were ok. Worst part was we ordered 2 margaritas - when the bill came my mezcal margarita was $24 which was shocking. Apparently they have only one mezcal available however we were never told that. This points at poor management that isn't training staff well. In the future we'd come for a drink and fries at most. Ordered a pot of Equator coffee, mimosas, the steamed pork belly buns, the beets, and the Reuben sandwich. Really liked the pork belly steamed buns, wouldn't get the Reuben again. The bread was too dry/grilled (just not for me). Thought the ratio between pastrami and sourkraut felt right. The beets with lebneh and zatar was really great - simple and effective, a great kind of item to have on the menu. Felt pretty well staffed on Sunday at 11 am. My fiancé had ordered the garden salad w/ chicken and was delivered a completely different salad on a small appetizer size plate. Went here over the weekend. Tried a little bit of everything and not one thing was not good. My favorite items were the pork belly buns and the Margherita pizza. They have a full bar as well! Great place to go for a group of friends or just to grab a quick bite or drink alone or in a smaller group. They have an outdoor patio and indoor dining. Absolutely awesome from ambience to perfectly crafted cocktails to food that isn't afraid of bold flavors. I am so happy that we have an establishment that knows how to craft a good cocktail. The diving bell is fun with cayenne and mezcal. If you are indecisive and want a but of adventure go for the bartenders choice. The food is on another level- the citrus salad with watercress and avocado is a beautiful balance of citrus and fat. The vietnamese wings are delicious with bold flavors of lime and seasonings that satisfy your taste buds. The pork belly buns are exciting with the pickled vegetables and hoisin and the pork cooked to perfection. It truly is the perfect bite that taps into the sweet, savory and sour. The sausage bites are nice with the ground mustard and sweet pepper- definately not a stand out dish though compared to the others. I also was not a fan of the hot peppers stuffed with goat cheese. The goat cheese was too sparse compared to the massive size of the pepper. The breading is really thick and a bit much and the peppers are extremely hot- so watch out for these puppies! I also think the prices for some of the dishes are way too high. The pork belly buns which run $9 for 3 are completely reasonable, but then you see the mussels which run $25 for a handful. $25 for a mussel appetizer is crazy expensive especially since you can get them for so cheap. While I loved the citrus salad; I felt the price tag was a bit steep compared to the small portion. I hope they will fix these price discrepancies. Besides a few misses the hits definately made up for those extra bases. I definately will be back and so glad that we have this establishment in Marin! read more

My husband and I were staying at the Holiday Inn Express and decided to come here for a quick meal. It had pretty good reviews and the location was prefect. When we arrived we were greeted by a friendly hostess. The place was packed because there was a 49er playoff game. She asked if we had reservations and we told her no. She explained that they do take walk-ins but because of the game, she wasn't sure if a table was available. She left to go check for a table for us and after a moment, we were seated at a communal table and were told some people might be seated with us. No biggy. The menu isn't extensive but still has plenty to choose from. I would say the some of the items on the menu is a little higher end for a sports pub. Before we decided to come here, I browsed through the Yelp reviews to see the food pics and the Rueben seemed to be the popular item, getting rave reviews, so that was what I ordered. Reviewers also warned that this sandwich was big and they were not exaggerating. It was massive. I knew going in that most likely 50% of my meal would not be eaten because this was not something my husband liked so sharing it wasn't an option. As far as the execution of how the sandwich was prepared, it was spot on! The rye bread was toasted to perfection! The meat, cheese and sauerkraut ratio was just right! However as far as flavor goes, it was bland. My personal preference is a Rueben with pastrami instead of corned beef. But I have had Rueben's with corned beef and they were fine. The corned beef, even though it was tender and juicy, lacked in flavor. The Russian dressing was also kind of bland. I wanted to like this sandwich because it was prepared so well, but after eating less than half, it just left me wanting for flavor. This sandwich might appeal to the masses, but for me, in the end, it was just okay. On a positive note: for an establishment that has only been opened for about a month, they got it nailed! I stopped in with a friend for a drink and snack on my way home from the airport this week, and popped back in three nights later on my own, Overall, the owners have done a great job remodeling the space. There is a somewhat odd dining area on the right when you walk in that looks and feels more like a diner or cafeteria without the counter or food line. It seems to be where those that don't want the noise or stimulation from TV sit. The main dining area has a large bar that I believe seats 30 and a row of smaller, skinny bar tables behind, and standard seating. There's a lounge area off of the main bar/restaurant for those that want to hang out on comfy couches and chairs in a smaller room and try and have a quiet conversation. Apparently an outdoor patio with a full bar and large umbrella similar to Playas is coming soon! They have a large selection of wine and beer on tap and a small craft cocktail menu. What's missing is a list of spirits, along with the prices. Wine snobs beware. The tap wine selection is fairly limited and the reds are mostly fruit forward California wines. I appreciate they're trying to keep the wine local, and there is a Rose from Provence, but I would like to see the wine list and include some from Europe and South America. The food menu includes a lot of staples and was reasonably priced for Marin. We only tried the garlic fries given the late hour, but they were hot and delicious. I'm dying to try one of the pizzas and they all looked and sounded delicious. The place was packed and buzzing both Wednesday and Saturday night. Mill Valley has desperately needed a fun, casual, affordable restaurant that's open late, and Floodwater fits the bill. I love that the place is open until midnight as most restaurants in Mill Valley close at 9. Beware: parking is limited for the size of the space. I hope they'll find a way to expand it as it was near to impossible to find a space at 5:30 on a Saturday night. read more

It's possibly the best sandwich in all of Marin, it's definitely the best Reuben that you can find anywhere. You can tell that everything on the sandwich is made in house (except the cheese). My wife had the citrus salad and matzoh ball soup, both were phenomenal! My father is from Israel so I've grown up eating matzoh ball soup, and this is just like dad makes. We were the first table seated in their dining room on opening night! We brought our 2 kids (elementary aged) and we had no problems finding things they would love to eat (and did!) The drinks were amazing, the wait staff attentive, and the food was tasty - and different than the other restaurants in the area which was very welcome. We will definitely be back as soon as we can!
