    Pork tamale plate
    Jesse L.

Been awhile since I've been here. I ordered the pork tamale plate. The tamale is good with beans & rice. The tortilla chips are a bit over cooked. Overall it's ok. Tamales are $4 each which is a bit pricey, but worth it.

This place is great tamales are great as well only thing is today i got 12 tamales for Christmas and found a hair inside my tamale thought it was mine until i pulled it and it literally slid right out of the inside of the tamale was like 2" long, it is not deadly but its kind of nasty.

I was looking for a Tamale spot to order a dozen for Christmas. Definitely wanted to try them out before committing to a dozen. I got one beef and one chicken with a side of rice and beans. Each one is pretty good size. Both were excellent. Masa wasn't dry and right amount of moisture. The meat to masa ratio could've been better. The rice and beans were absolutely delicious. The price for everything was very reasonable. They had single chairs set up while you wait for Take Out Orders. Dining area is limited seating. Establishment was well kept and clean. Parking is a little tight but plenty of spaces. I'd definitely recommend them for breakfast or tamales.

Location is great, there is no parking if you do get a spot it's a tight one. Had some tamales from here before. This time I sat down ordered the Castillo in Salsa Verde, not spicy at all. With hand made tortillas It was good, but the Costillas, some of them were hot and some of them cold not good. But were delicious. Pork tamales were a bit disappointing expensive and really no meat in them for the price.

Yes, it's that time of year again - my yearly hunt for a new place for tamales. Today I visited Tamale House in North Hills after seeing write ups about this place on various reputable sites. I got the chicken with green sauce and the pork with red sauce. My tamale of preference is pork with red sauce. While the meat was generous, the sauce wasn't on point to my tastebuds and the masa was missing something. For a tamale to be good to me, the masa has to be delectable. I don't typically gravitate towards chicken tamales but it had green sauce so you know I had to try one. The chicken was very flavorful and the portions of meat were generous, but it could have had more green sauce. I asked for a side of green sauce, which was really yummy. But as stated above, the masa just didn't meet my criteria. Note that the tamales are pretty big so that's a plus, I just wish they were worth the hype and the drive. The staff was friendly and there was ample space to dine in. The parking is an issue. The lot is tiny and people will park anywhere, making it hard to pull out. Also, the spaces are small so if you are extra about your car like me, then it may be an anxiety-ridden meal lol. Just be careful if you park in there because cars will pull out and disregard they're about to back onto you. Unfortunately, this place doesn't get a yummy in my tummy rating. The tamales weren't bad, they just aren't worthy of an honorable mention nor worthy of making the list of best tamales. We each have different tastes so I respect that but my usual haunts are still superior to this place. If anyone has any recs, I'm all ears. I've tried pretty much all of the famous places in and around LA and I'm not interested in these new artisan tamales.

This juicy, dish was so delicious. This is called, chille reñeno with a red chille sauce pork tamal. This order came with rice and beans.

I like it charred a little. I could have eaten a tub of their rice. So light, fluffy and flavorful. I'm not a bean person but even the beans were hitting the spot. So much I would order them again. Usually I try the beans once and that's it. I'm pretty sure the tortillas were homemade. I loved that they were thick enough to hold everything but soft enough to eat. Salsa was a little too spicy for my liking. Everything was seasoned well. Everyone was very nice! But I definitely had to use my high school Spanish. Between my Spanglish and her English it was no problem. It's a very small hole in the wall. Cases of beer were stacked against the wall. There were only about 5-6 two top tables. Not good for a crowd but definitely great food. I think there was one unisex bathroom. I didn't go in. Looking at the pictures online I didn't know there was an outdoor patio. Looks nice in the pictures. I'm not sure about a parking lot. We parked on the street on Parthenia which was a little scary because drivers don't care about people getting out of the car.

It's not soggy and it holds its shape. The birria consomé itself is something I come back for by itself. You can definitely taste the cloves. I reccomend asking for more lime. They've definitely improved a lot service wise! More than a year ago it took my and my friends more than 20-30 minutes to get our food. It was really off putting but the birria was enough to come back and I live really close. Last couple times I've gone this year and late last year they have improved to less than 15 minutes depending on the size of the order. Their baja fish and shrimp tacos taste just like the ones alongside baja california (i know since i did a roadtrip along that coast) If you like fish tacos it's a must try!! And this lady seriously asks me, "what meat" and I repeat myself and she laughs in my face like I'm the one that sounds dumb for asking what is she taking about. She repeats herself and I say, "birria." Then she proceeds to ask me, "Do you want that with cheese or no cheese?" If I'm asking for quesabirrias, is it not obvious I want it with birria and cheese. But it's also the fact that she makes me out to be the idiot for being confused at her ridiculous questions. They then gave us the same number as the man before us and had to bring it to their attention, so they wouldn't give our food to him (he had a to-go). Thanks to the man that went to go say something. Then, my mom said that they charged us the same amount for both menudos when on the menu it shows up at different prices (we got 1 pata, 1 without). I brought it to their attention and I said, "That's okay, you could go ahead and bring me the pata, since you already charged me for it." She answered, "Well, you have to go pay the difference up front." I repeated myself, she viewed my receipt and said okay. She comes back 5 minutes later and she tells me, "They charged you for the pata, do you want your money back?" I said, "no, you could go ahead and bring it to me with the pata." Then she finally brings it out and tells me, "it's priced at the same amount whether you get pata or not." Whether or not, that was true, why was she trying to charge me the difference. They never brought my mom that said sangria, she never ordered. She went to go get a refund for that and they only gave her $4 with no added tax amount, so they didn't even process her refund as they were supposed to. To make matters worse, the food wasn't even good. I really tried to enjoy it, but the menudo was tough and quesabirrias lacked flavor. The restaurant was small, and we had to sit outside, which was okay, considering it wasn't too hot out. In conclusion, service was awful, rude, there was no coordination, food was not the best, and the it was small but very limited seating. I was so excited to come here, because an influencer said this place was so good. Last time I listen to someone on the internet. My fault, but I was just so disappointed.
