Only down fall is the food really lacked flavor, no seasoning or salt used. I was definitely disappointed. The green salsa was the only thing that saved the dish. Yes, it's that time of year again - my yearly hunt for a new place for tamales. Today I visited Tamale House in North Hills after seeing write ups about this place on various reputable sites. I got the chicken with green sauce and the pork with red sauce. My tamale of preference is pork with red sauce. While the meat was generous, the sauce wasn't on point to my tastebuds and the masa was missing something. For a tamale to be good to me, the masa has to be delectable. I don't typically gravitate towards chicken tamales but it had green sauce so you know I had to try one. The chicken was very flavorful and the portions of meat were generous, but it could have had more green sauce. I asked for a side of green sauce, which was really yummy. But as stated above, the masa just didn't meet my criteria. Note that the tamales are pretty big so that's a plus, I just wish they were worth the hype and the drive. The staff was friendly and there was ample space to dine in. The parking is an issue. The lot is tiny and people will park anywhere, making it hard to pull out. Also, the spaces are small so if you are extra about your car like me, then it may be an anxiety-ridden meal lol. Just be careful if you park in there because cars will pull out and disregard they're about to back onto you. Unfortunately, this place doesn't get a yummy in my tummy rating. The tamales weren't bad, they just aren't worthy of an honorable mention nor worthy of making the list of best tamales. We each have different tastes so I respect that but my usual haunts are still superior to this place. If anyone has any recs, I'm all ears. I've tried pretty much all of the famous places in and around LA and I'm not interested in these new artisan tamales. read more

Had high hopes for Tamale House on my never-ending quest for the best chili and cheese tamales. Saw that they had other veggie options and decided to try those as well. This was an UberEATS order, so things like temperature and presentation were overlooked in this review. The rice is DELICIOUS but tastes almost like Asian fried rice? It's also dripping in oil at the bottom of the container, which made my arteries cringe - but it was too late! No complaints from my tastebuds, tho. Veggie tamales...just skip these. Under-seasoned veggies in masa with no cheese = underwhelming. Spinach and cheese - surprisingly my favorite of the bunch but still kinda average. I wouldn't go out of my way to get these but they were a nice change from my usual. Chili and cheese - where's the chili?! There were 3 little (read: 1/2 inch) pieces in each tamale, which had uneven globs of cheese in it as well. Kinda confused about this one. Could be way better. My biggest gripe is all the tamales were kind of dry. And the saddest part is there was no option to get salsa on UberEATS. I would have paid for salsa - the tamales desperately needed it. read more

So, I saw their ad on social media and decided to give them a try. The ads for the tamales at this place made them look sooo good. I ordered a dozen ($50), NOT WORTH THE MONEY!! I ordered 6 rajas, 2 chicken, 2 pork, and 2 beef. I figured if I was going to give a review, that I should try a variety of them. The flavor was good and the size was good too. Where they fall short is the filling to masa ratio. There was way more masa than filling, and that's a no no in the tamale world! Overall they were good at best. But definitely not good enough to justify the price. I was so disappointed, I wanted them to be as good as the ads portrayed them. I was craving tamales 2 days ago during lunch time and decided to make my way here. I already had in mind what I would get. I ordered my tamales, and after paying, I asked the lady for some salsa. Her 1st response was that they now charge for the salsa. To which I immediately replied: it's okay, I'll pay for it. She then walks to grab 2 containers of green salsa and says: this time I'll give them to you. To which I replied a second time very calmly and patiently: charge me the salsa. The other employee who was packing an order smirked at me, and so did a customer who was enjoying her food on one of the tables near the counter. It's not the 1st time I have had a strange encounter with this lady/cashier. Her attitude and deamenor is very discouraging. I've decided not to step foot in this establishment anymore. Who wants to go buy food and leave with a sour taste of mouth. Whoever works in the restaurant/ food industry should be welcoming. These are the salsas they're now charging for.
