We wandered not too far off from Sedona after our visit to the Chapel of the Holy Cross, and located this spot for lunch on YELP. We arrived shortly after opening and we were greeted immediately upon entering. Order at counter and seat yourself outdoor or indoor. Cute place with live plants hanging from ceiling. Their menu had a large varied selection of empanadas- sweet or savory, spicy or non, and veggie. Also noted the Cubano sandwiches etc. I appreciated the detailed descriptions of ingredients and spicy level rating of menu items. Hubby and I both ordered the combo empanadas meal - 2 empanadas of choice except lamb and sweet, choice of side, and soda or water. My order: Green chile empanada Spicy beef and potato empanada Side salad with Thousand Island Bottle of water Came with tiny sauce Love how the empanadas are oven baked, not fried. Outer dough had a nice slight crispiness and was light. Inside filling was generous. Since I love spice and bold flavors I chose the 2 empanadas rated with the highest level of spiciness. But both fell short on spiciness and flavor for me. The meal was accompanied by a small sample of sauce, I had to inquire what it was..apparently it's their green sauce, mild in nature. I was in Sedona for 6 nights and this was the best food I had my whole trip! I saw it was 17 min out and while driving there I saw the terrifying back to back traffic on the way back. I am so glad I didn't change my mind and turn around because these empenadas are WORTH IT! I at first ordered 4 of them as they were out of one of the flavors I had hoped to try. The chicken curry, green chilli chicken, jalisico lamb, and the brisket corn squash. I also got the chimichuri sauce, green sauce, and ojo sauce. The lady helping me was super friendly while helping me decide what to order. I decided to take the items to go originally thinking I would eat at a park.... So I was so hungry I ended up eating them in the car and quickly realized my plan of saving some for the next days was futile. They were jam packed with flavorful filling, super moist on in the inside, but light and pillowy and not soggy at all, with just enough structure to give the right texture....I walked back in and ordered three more. I personally preferred the chimichuri sauce and felt the other sauces I would have liked more on a street taco. Most of the empenadas honestly can even stand alone without a sauce since they aren't dry and they are seasoned well. I appreciated the little initials on the corner of the empenadas and the cheat sheet they provide so you know which item is what. I also love that they are baked and not deep fried. I found that the GPS took me to the back of the parking lot for some reason. But they are at the front close to a dentist and still have a temporary sign hanging over the old business sign. Vegans pay attention: Willy's, located in Oak Creek Village, has a great variety of worldly inspired empanadas! I indulged in their Green Chili, Mushroom & Potato selection which was forward in both flavor and heat. Talking with their staff, I came to find that this flavor was also one of their favorites! We were on our way out and needed a quick bite before hitting the road. My friend found this place while looking up empanadas. Didn't think a place even existed in this tiny town. There is a wide variety of empanadas on their menu and everything sounded amazing. It was so hard to choose. My friend and I each picked two choices and there was a 10-15 minute wait. They make them fresh and I tell you it was worth the wait! That first bite just melts in your mouth. I was tempted to go back and pick up a dozen to take home with me. Before there was Willy's, the empanadas were available at their big brother restaurant at the other end of the plaza, Dellepiane, but now, if you want a variety of delish empanadas, Willy's is the place! I got a wild mushroom and a buffalo chicken and was not disappointed- they have ones with just veg, seafood, lamb, you name it! You order at the counter and then find a place to sit. They don't give you silverware (you have to grab it on your way to your seat) which was complicated for our large party sitting outside. I was not overwhelmed with the hospitality of the staff, but food was pretty tasty and affordable. read more

This quickly has become our favorite place on a visit to Sedona this year. We stopped here on the way, driving into Sedona and on the way driving out. The empanadas are so delicious. I highly recommend these shepherds pie, the chicken pot pie, the Philly cheesesteak. You won't get something you don't like. Staff is incredibly great and helpful. The food is delicious. The Cowboy Empanadas are the star! We tried a bunch of them in two visits. The other one that stood out was the tuna empanada. The green salad was simple but tasty. The problem is they are seriously understaffed. The poor guy running the register today had a rush of at least 50 people. He had to take all the orders, get the drinks together, deliver all the food. This is the job of three people. The owner needs to step up and bring on some more people. This restaurant has the potential to be great. Management is the only thing holding that back. read more

Vegan reviewer here! Went to their sister restaurant today looking for empanadas and found out they opened a store a few doors down and had to check it out. I stopped in Sunday afternoon and was delighted to see the vegan empanadas I enjoyed at Dellaphine were just a few doors down. They had several non vegan options and a dedicated vegan section which had a few options. I decided on the vegan spanakopita and vegan chicken curry after finding out they were sold out of their vegan buffalo and a side of green sauce to go. I was hoping they had a sweet empanada but none were vegan although they all sounded tasty. It's a fast casual restaurant with a patio and I placed my order at the register and took a seat. Shortly after the cashier approached me and notified me they had a vegan gluten free lava cake which I delightfully ordered. I placed my order to go and it was brought to my table shortly after. The staff were friendly and helpful! I went to my car and stole a bite of the lava cake and ended up eating the entire thing lol. It was small and a bit overpriced but legitimately delicious! I made the drive back down to Phoenix with my empanadas and popped them in their air fryer before enjoying. The spanakopita was more herby than I expected and not my favorite I probably wouldn't order that again but I really enjoyed the chicken curry! It was packed with vegan chicken and the curry was light and not too overpowering which I enjoyed. They green sauce was a good edition as it allowed me to enjoy both flavors without taking over. I don't eat onions, and since you can't customize empanadas, I ordered the three that don't contain them: the Pepe, ham & cheese, and caprese. The ham & cheese was edible, but the Pepe and caprese were gross and I threw them away. The vegetables inside were extremely soggy, and the empanadas were basically just an excessive amount of cheese. I like cheese, but this was way too much. They weren't flavorful, the texture was off, and they felt heavy and greasy. I didn't finish them and still felt gross afterward. I paid over $20 for three empanadas, and only one was even remotely edible, which was really disappointing. I let them know I didn't like them, and no credit or adjustment was offered, which added to the frustration. Also worth noting: there is no Wi-Fi, which would have been helpful. I don't usually write negative reviews, but I wouldn't recommend this place based on my experience. read more

I finally made it to Willy's and it was amazing. The BBQ Pork empanada was sweet, smoky, a bit spicy and cooked perfectly. The Jalisco Spicy Lamb had a TON of flavor and was the messiest of the three! (Not a bad thing) Finally, I had the Spicy Beef and Potatoes - it perfectly complimented the other two that were a bit more 'rich'. All three cooked perfectly, piping hot and I highly recommend all of them. Note - it IS Sedona, but at $8 each I wish there was a locals discount. Splitting hairs, so glad I stopped in. Worst service in four days in Sedona. Tall young man taking the order looking annoyed at my questions on the menu. We still tipped 18%. He blows off the beer order after I asked twice why it hadn't shown up yet. I had to ask the cook in Spanish to pour them for me. Kid brought the empanadas to the table without telling us how to figure out which empanada is which. He brings no forks, no plates and one sauce. Our shishito peppers appetizer comes out last. Kid never apologized and shoots me an annoyed look. Food was solid. One of the empanadas i got wasn't what i ordered. If you screw up service you own it. Poorly trained people ruin an experience. Was really hoping for the food to be much better. The flavors were hit and miss. Chicken Curry was a hit. The Chicken Pot Pie was mainly, under cooked, veggies and flavors were a miss also. Stopped here for lunch on our way into Sedona after reading Yelp reviews. Even though we were there at 1pm, they were out of my top 4 selections of empanadas. That would usually turn me off enough to leave a bad review. However, the flavors we did get - green chile smoked pork and chicken curry - were so good that we were very satisfied. And we returned a few days later with 4 others in tow. We were there at 11:30am and most flavors were available. Our group had the following flavors of empanadas: chicken pot pie, shepherds pie, spicy beef and potato, smoked brisket, corn and squash, green chile chicken, pepe, and ropa vieja. All were fantastic. Everyone raved about their choices being the best. This place is very casual and the ambiance is nothing special. But the quality of the food more than makes up for it. Just keep in mind - this is not fast food. You will not get your food quickly like at McDonalds. It's worth the wait. I only hope they will have Jalisco lamb empanadas available on my third visit! read more

We wanted something delicious but not huge and since you can order individual empanadas this was perfect. I got the ratatouille one and the flavor was outstanding!!! Is that lemon I taste?? It's sooooo good. The veggies are crunchy and each had its own flavor. My husband got the tuna, which was a unique idea and was so good he said he would get it again. We split the shishito peppers, which had such good char!! I can't wait to come back. We loved stopping for these empanadas when they were sold at Dellaphines. Thrilled they have their own location now. My kids love the Ham and Cheese empanadas and the Mac and Cheese. I wish they had a few more kid friendly options as even the Hawaiian and Pepe seem to have too much spice for my 2 and 5 year olds. For the adults our favorite is the Green Chile Chicken - it says it is hot but we don't find it to be that spicy at all. The cowboy and ratatouille are other grown up favorites. read more

The outside seating was very cute, and our waiter was kind enough to offer us blankets and the warmth of a space heater. We tried the buffalo wings, green chile empanada, ratatouille empancowboy empanada (peanut butter brisket jalapeno), and the buffalo chicken empanada. The wings were very fresh and yummy. The cowboy empanada was REALLY DELICIOUS; I was apprehensive about the peanut butter but it was so smoky and rich. The buffalo chicken one was rich and creamy as well. I did not really enjoy the ratatouille one as much, but it was still good. The green chile one had less powerful flavor, but was still good. All the empanada shells were quite crispy, buttery, and delicious. I would HIGHLY recommend the cowboy empanada and will definitely be coming again to try more flavors!! read more
