Not a big deal probably just caused I liked it I wanted another. The ramen I order, chasyu ramen, I asked for it to be spicy and they said it's not made that way and offered to give it to me on the side. Which was fine, just in my mind the same way I asked for it, couldn't it have just been placed in the broth before being brought out? Idk something small I guess but still not a big deal just speaking on my exeprience. The broth: it was light, not oily, didn't make you feel heavy after eating it. It had flavor and seasoned well enough that it wasn't over seasoned. The chashu: was underwhelming, it had no flavor other than pork for me. It was seared nicely, however it feels like it's lacking some seasoning or the marinade used to braise the pork isn't it. Can't put my finger on it. But some reused tare would do some justice. Noodles were a little on the harder side, but again I think that's the style in which this location does their noodles. Not a big thing, but for me I prefer softer noodles. Your preference. I want to come back here and try some other bowls, but not sure when I'll have the chance. Cool looking restaurant. The front looks very traditional Japanese with lots of wood furniture and paneling, while the back showcases hip, quirky, colorful anime wall art. The vibe is relaxed and welcoming. They have an open kitchen all the way in the back where you can watch them make the ramen dishes. On my last visit, I ordered: Kani sunomono salad: really good, sweet and tangy cucumber salad with crab meat Pork buns: comes with two pieces per order. It's served with vegetables and sauce inside steamed soft bun. I really liked the juicy pieces of pork and sauce but did not care for the pieces of lettuce. It would have been better if it had cucumbers or some kind of pickled vegetables. Chasyu-Don: it's basically pork over rice dish topped with scallion and pickled daikon radish. This place has been on my to do list for a while. Ow, since yelp sends me emails about new places popping up in my area lol. They are packed 730pm on a sunday night. The service is speedy and efficient upon first impression. Their seats are wooden for anyone with elders, bring some seat cushions for them. I personally like the dark wooden interior. The taste had some sweetness from the cabbages and carrots in it, wasnt the taste I was expecting even tho I was told that my soup base is pork. I didnt get the meat taste in it at all. But I do love the soft ramen they used. Their takoyaki had good flavors but the pieces of tako used lacked some chew, maybe it wasnt fresh enough the one I had? My biggest dismay: we were seated in the back, one of the four tables at the end and our water was never refilled during our entire meal. So if it wasnt for the calpicos we ordered, we would of had nothing to drink for a long time. Tsukumen - Shoyu Flavor Amazing flavor and broth , not thick but more so soup like. Keep in mind the food on the tray is made cold so you can dip into the hot broth, don't order if you have a same temp preference for everything. Not did only she added the tip without asking us, she said she added because one from our party didn't eat in the restaurant, she mentioned this wasn't a food court to bring food from other places, or that we were not obligated to come and eat at the restaurant, I know we aren't obligated to go! but we like the food, we are customers from 4 or more years ago. She warned us that if we ever bring food from outside she will denied us the right to eat. I have been here several times since it's in the neighborhood and mostly come for dinner when it is packed -- over half of the times my party of 3 would have to wait. For lunch there were not that many people (less than half filled when I went) and I was swiftly seated for my party of 2. There are some smaller tables, high chairs, bar seating by the wall in the back of the restaurant. In the front there are several 2 and 4 people tables. I have had the chance to try the dipping ramen, miso ramen, tamashii ramen, shoyu ramen, gyoza, ebi potato w shrimp, okonomiyaki, 2 types of rice bowls, and cold ramen which I can't remember the name of, but has a nice paste to mix with which gives it an umami flavor that I like. I find that the Tamashii and miso ramen are my favorite hot ramens. Miso ramen is for when you want something really heavy and want corn, shoyu ramen is less heavy, and tamashii ramen is the least heavy out of the three in terms of the broth, but has a great salty taste that is not too overwhelming. The gyoza is my go-to appetizer. I feel that the non-ramen main dishes are less filling whenever I have them. Usually the service is nice, though sometimes because it is busy, it is hard to get the attention of the servers for something like tea refills, which most of the times have to be brought near the kitchen to refill 2 cups at a time. One time in the fall of 2019 when I came in with my mom, we stood in the front waiting at least 5 minutes for someone to acknowledge us and get our party down the "list" but we didn't get anyone's attention so we went across the street to Hinoki. The shoyu was based on a rich broth that was full of juicy pork, mensa, egg, scallion and seaweed with just the right amount of noodles. Let's revisit the elephant in the room. The service is abysmal, bordering on rude, annoying and completely dismissive in the way restaurant service never should be. The food isn't terrible. This time around I had the Kara Miso Ramen. Of all their ramens, this one is pretty good. The whole not offering extra broth, even if you're willing to pay for it, is highly annoying. I'm a broth guy. The noodles though are extremely mediocre. Ramen from Bamboo Ya, the Japanese restaurant at the end of the street is far better, which in theory it shouldn't be since this is a ramen restaurant. I've been wanting to try this place since it opened but it's challenging with young kids. Had time on a weekday to come for early dinner and we were surprised to find how kid-friendly this place is. Seated us by the entrance which was perfect because my toddler could people watch. They brought us water in a take out container for my toddler with a straw poking through a hole in the center. Broth wasn't overly salty and I didn't have to chug gallons of water when I got home. As described, this dish comes with extra pieces of pork, at least five to six pieces with plenty of bok choy. Good bowl of ramen and would definitely order again. This particular ramen didn't come with an egg for egg lovers out there. Complimentary edamame was served before we got our food. I noticed they like to add grated ginger as a topping to their meals. It throws me off but is a nice addition. This place has really friendly service. Super attentive and always made sure we were taken care of. We dropped a bowl and they immediately came over to see if they could help or if we needed anything. I've been pretty hyped about going to this place, since I do love hearty ramen on a cold, winter day. When you walk in, the decor and set up is very common to many ramen places you come by in the city. They also have bar stools if you're coming here solo. The menu is quite eclectic for a ramen restaurant with a large variety of ramen and vegetarian ramen, as well as rice dishes and appetizers. We got the Takoyaki to start off and it was delicious. Extremely fresh and the balls were a bit crunchy on the outside, which I enjoyed. I got the Tamashii Ramen, which is their version of the Shio Ramen. It was pretty average, and the broth did not have a lot of flavor. It came with two pork belly slices, which was tender and tasty. My dad got the Miso Ramen, which he said was very salty and also fair in flavor. Having been to a decent amount of ramen spots in NYC, I think you can definitely find much better. It also included a light salad on the side with a ginger carrot dressing and fresh greens that was really tasty as well. The oyster fry oyster were good size oysters and came with a plain mayo dipping sauce. So it started well but then came the ramen. The broth of the flagship ramen was disappointing. No body and honestly no flavor. The toppings included no nori, no scallion, no half egg, no bean sprouts basically everything that I feel for the price that they charged, should have came with. There are places in Manhattan that included more in the bowl. It strangely enough did come with slices raw cabbage which I can't say I've ever had in a bowl of ramen before as a dominant topping. I should note that the pictures I took will show bok choy and sliced char sui which fill the bowl but honestly it didn't. My companion had a veggie ramen that was similarly disappointing. The service was inconsistent. The lady that took my order was friendly. She came by and dropped off my appetizers but didn't hang around for me to ask for a fork for my companion. I had to wait until the ramen came before I could get one. The inconsistency continued when another lady dropped off my ramen and tried to drop off the wrong order. She was irritated that I told her I didn't order a curry ramen! I would have written it off if the same thing didn't happen to the table next to me where she took the bowls after she dropped it off for some time to another table. No wait for 2 around 6:30pm. We each ordered a ramen (Chaysu #7 and Tamashii Ramen #1) and shared an Ebi Potato. The Ebi Potatoe was the best part of the meal. It was potato wrapped around a shrimp and fried. It was flavorful, crispy and tasty. It was also very different presentation that what I expected. The Chaysu ramen had 2 more slices of roasted pork slices. Unfortunately, the broth was also blander. The Tamashii ramen had more chicken flavor but very salty. Afterwards, I was very thirsty. Protip: Don't drink the broth. I was so hungry, we ordered Kaedama. Initally, our waitress forgot our noodles. But after walking by us twice and finally making eye contact, she remembered. When we got the noodles, they were a bit off. The noodles weren't drained well so they clumped together in one big mass. The problems with the food could be remedied by adjusting the broth and draining the noodles. I had the Curry Ramen yesterday. Sorry I forgot to take a picture. It tasted like light brown water with a little bit of curry powder. No flavor at all!!! It was bad!! Also the so-called Curry broth wasn't even hot. It made the dish a lukewarm soggy mess! This isn't the first time I have been there. But the food is getting bad. I think the owner should go to another restaurant and taste what curry ramen should taste like. read more
