This restaurant was featured in a New York Times article and close to our hotel, so we figured we'd give it a shot on our last night in Florence. We didn't have a reservation but luckily the wait for an outdoor table was only 20-30 minutes. Once seated, we ordered the seasonal summer salad which was delicious. However, the pasta entrees we had after that were mediocre at best. Everything was overly salty and the service was slower than most Italian restaurants. We understand that the service culture is much different than the USA, and we enjoy a long meal, but it was clear our waiter had forgotten about us. My girlfriend and I came across Tamero via the Times, and were not disappointed. The service was fantastic and welcoming, we had a great bottle of chianti with our dinner out on the patio in the piazza. For food, we shared the burrata salad and she had the pappardelle with short ribs and I had the fresh pesto pasta with cherry tomatoes. We loved all the dishes and would definitely return. Fantastic little place on the "other" side of the Arno. Very few tourists here, in fact the whole square had the vibe of a local hangout. It's a bit trendier and more modern than many of the other restaurants in Florence, so was fun for a change. Funky decor, young crowd, and just felt like a very "cool" hangout. Not packed to the gills, but it was a Tuesday in February so no promises for what it's like in July. We shared roasted cuttlefish filled with tabbouleh, and pici with duck sauce. Oh mah god. The cuttlefish was fine - very well cooked, served with a nice bulgur salad inside, blah blah blah THE PICI WITH DUCK SAUCE. That stuff was magic. If I knew duck could be this delicious I'd spend more time feeding them by the riverside...to fatten them up and then eat them. Soft, tender, succulent meat in a complex and rich sauce, good lord. Can this be my last meal? We were nearly fighting over it. I think we had dessert, and wine, but all else is forgotten. Service was a bit slow. I know it's Italy and that's normal but it was hard to get her attention at the beginning (I know it's always hard at the end when you want the bill). STILL. Great area, great food, and superior service. We planned to eat at another restaurant here but it was going to be 2 hours wait. They were kind enough to recommend this place and we were not disappointed! The entire staff was prompt, courteous, and very friendly. They let us taste several wines before we choose. This restaurant, located right on piazza santo spirito is ok but nothing great or special, neither about the food or the atmosphere. If you are in a hurry, you can stop there but it is maybe worth walking a bit more for better food. The ham and cheese we shared as appetizers were good but average. The pasta cacio e peppe that i had after were a bit sticky and again nothing special, nothing very tasty in it: not enough pepper? Not a good pecorino? Something was missing and I did not even finish (but it is true that portions are very large). Judging from the choices of my friends this evening, I would suggest you to stick with Italian recipes as apparently the Indian chicken was really not so good. As a dessert we had a chocolate mouss with some biscotta and.. olive oil. Besides the food which is overall ok but a bit disappointing for Florence, I did not like very much the somehow very cold atmosphere inside. I found the design a bit fake and not warm at all. We ordered their house made pasta from the menu, the tortellini, one featuring wild boar and the other colored with squid ink, filled with citrus potatoes with a "spicy sauce". The sauce was far from "spicy". It was very fishy tasting. The homemade tortellini was very dense rather than a pillow. We've had many beautiful delicious caprese salads while in Italy. The tomatoes here were hard and not ripe. Something that you could go find at the hard rock chain. The service was very poor. However, the greeter, maybe the owner was very nice and helpful. Disappointing. Placed in the center of Santo Spirito I was excited to try authentic Italian pasta. The host greeted us and brought us (without a wait) to a table near the back of the house. They then left us there to wait for nearly 30 minutes without asking us our drink or food orders. When the waiter finally came he was abrupt. The drinks were either a hit or a miss, with a majority of table unhappy with their drinks. Then the food came out (rather quickly) which was very good not great. We got the fried Vegetable app which came out without the sauce as described on the menu; and the Cacio e Pepe which wasn't very flavorful- nothing special. We came here after a recommendation from our host. This place is wonderful they make their own pasta and the staff can speak English too. It's a trendy place that has a great night science too. Our waiter was great not pushy he had us seated promptly and took our order and he checked on us to see if our food was good! My husband got the squid ink pasta filled with a citrus potato and the sauce has a bit of spice. I ordered the Sardinian pasta that had been filled with potato it came with a green sauce shrimp and bacon. We finished with cappuccinos. I highly recommend this place. if you're looking for good pasta this is your place! We went for dinner and were able to make a reservation ahead of time so were seating quite quickly. It is set in a plaza with a view of a cute fountain and some interesting buildings surrounding it. If you arrive by cab they will have to drop you off outside of the plaza. They change their menu based on the season so everything is new and fresh. We ordered a round of their cocktails (Moscow mule and mint julep). The drinks were good but I have had better signature cocktails at other establishments. The food however was too notch! I ordered the spaghetti special, which are a bit thicker spaghetti noodles in a cheese sauce, and my friend order the spinach and ricotta ravioli. Melt in your mouth good! Good for a dinner prelude to a night out. There were some bars nearby that we walked to afterward. I do wish we had tried the pizzas, the ones that came out while were there looked great! Wow. Out of all the meals we had while traveling in Florence and Rome this is the one we will be dreaming about for years to come. We came to Tamerò specially for pasta and everything we ended up ordering was delicious. All our dishes had great flavor, textures, and all cooked perfectly. Started with the fried bread with prosciutto and stracchino cheese. It was like a zeppole minus the sugar and grease, paired so nicely with the savory ham and fresh cheese. Really tasty and fun to eat. I had the Typical Sardinian Pasta that was just amazing. Actually I didn't think it was typical at all, all the flavors of cheese, mint, bacon, and pumpkin were surprisingly good together, pasta and shrimp cooked just right. I would eat this again if I could. My guy had the Black Tortellini in Octopus Sauce, another interesting dish that did very well, he enjoyed it very much. I had a bite, octopus so tender with a unique ginger kick. And for desserts went for the Meringue Foam Powder and Tiramisu. Just divine. The right amount of sweet to wrap up the night. Great little place in Piazza San Spirito. We were recommended this place by our tour guide who raved about the hand-made pasta. We loved the decor of the place which is like a small college coffeship with a "tear" in the wall with a separate dining room. The kitchen is open in the front, kind of like the chinese noodle shops without the ducks hanging in the windows. We sat in the back and ordered off of their lunch menu which is great because you can order off their 10 Euro lunch menu which gets you an entree with coffee and water or another entree for slightly more. I ordered the roast Sicilian vegetables with mozzarella while my wife ordered the papparadelle with stuffed boar. Both entrees were good although not as tasty as some of the other places that we've been to in Florence. They unfortunately did not serve the roast octopus on that day so we couldn't try that as we had heard a lot about it. We went here because it was getting late (after 10) and other restaurants were closing. Based on our host's recommendations we came here. It definitely was a locals' area, but I think the word is getting out to tourists. The service was really good. We were warmly greeted, they were very accommodating of our table request and were pretty quick with the food. There is seating inside and out in the piazza of Santo Spirito. Also the price wasn't bad (9-16 euro/dish) - there is a service charge for dining as opposed to take away, and then a charge for water, but those seem standard for most restaurants. However the food - the food was pretty bad. So they have traditional Italian dishes and then new, fusion-y dishes: Mexican-Japanese, Mexican-Italian, Italian-Japanese, etc. We went traditional Italian thinking it was the safest. Wrong. Apparently, ravioli with shrimp and zucchini or pasta (paccheri) with tomato, ricotta, and eggplant is difficult. The ravioli had potato but then a really tangy flavor like sushi, and the zucchini was very bitter making it, and anything it touched, terrible. The paccheri was big, thick, gelatinous and probably 80% of our second dish. The eggplant was puréed and barely had any taste. The tomatoes were good when you could get one, and there was basically no salt, just a ton of olive oil. So, great mainly-locals location, good service, nice atmosphere, but way below average food. With so many restaurants, even within 5 minutes, I would go somewhere else. The only reason it wasn't 1-star is the good service and nice ambience. read more

Wonderful experience! We were lucky enough to get to meet the head chef and during that meet and greet he explained the different pastas and how he cooked them. We then got a sampler plate of his favorite and I was blown away! His ravioli stuffed with spinach was divine. We went here per recommendation of our guide. It was a local joint with very few tourists. The ambience was quite electic, mixed of modern and antique furniture and was put together well. Pianist was playing in the corner. Kitchen prominently displayed and the chefs looked great. So far so good and we had high hopes. And then everything went downhill. We waited for over half an hour to oder, another half an hour for water, and another half an hour for our bread and appetizer which was a terrible version of octopus tacos for 14 euros which I could get in San Jose CA for $5, then another half an hour hour pasta which was less than average for Italy. This was my 4th trip to Italy so I think I have a good barometer of what average is. We didn't order any wine which must have irritated the manager or may be owner which by the way is Brazilian. And here is what I gave it a one star. I gave the waitress 50 euros for a 43 euros tab and the change was 2 euros. The Brazilian manager insisted that I gave him 45. He refused to look at his cash register. Come on I have been to Europe enough to know the green 5 euros from the red 10 euros. I was 100% sure I gave him 50 and he was 100% sure I gave him 45. I had my 2 year old son with me which threw quite a few tantrums after a 2 hour wait for food (can you blame him?), and we didn't order wine, so we were certainly less than their ideal dinners. But that was no reason to stiff me on my change. There was a cover charge so I was certainly not going to Tip them for the horrible experience. I am on vacation so rather than arguing I just left. I hope the owner would read this review and respond. If you do, you should contact me and refund my 5 euros. That would amend this yelper. AVOID this restaurant at all costs. read more

FRESH, MODERN & DELICIOUS! You can't go wrong here. My husband and I both cook and eat Italian food. We like very different dishes, so finding a place that can accommodate both, can be tricky. It's located in the Piazza San Dispirito. Discovering it was truly Destino! We stayed in a flat around the corner and came in the back way and could not tell if they were open. Boy! The front was packed, as was the area in the front. More than any other place we'd seen. There was a wait and we almost didn't stay. When you can try a fresh take on old classics, it can be a little unnerving. Have peace of mind. Everything was amazing! We expected service to lack due to kitchen being slammed. However, the waiter was attentive and quite lovely. The wine, apertivo, segundi, dessert... all were all so yummy! We've talked about it ever since. It's a seasonal menu, based on local ingredients. We were there in Spring. Pasta with pesto and red mild sauce. Husband got a stuffed cone shaped pasta with sausage, potato,arugula inside. My favorite was the insalate. Mozzarella, crazy good tomatoes, basil and thee olive oil and salt. Oh my! Simple, yes! I have never had so few ingredients taste so incredible! Go! This was probably the worst Italian food I have ever had and I was in Italy. We were actually in search of another place in Florence to eat but after not being able to find it for like a half hour, we stumbled in here because we were hungry. I had a pasta with clams and mussels. My cousin had lobster and pasta. Mines wasn't too bad even though I would never order it again, but my cousins lobster was down right nasty. And the inside didn't seemed cooked enough because it was really mushy. She asked the waiter if it was cooked enough and he said yes and when she said she didn't like it, he shrugged and said I" I don't know what to tell you".. seriously? I guess this is were they think Americans are spoiled because we don't like paying for food that is unedible. I will surely never go back.
