This place is literally across from our community. It's now our go to and we love the burritos and queso dip. We order the steak burrito and bean and cheese burrito with the cream sauce and it's so so delicious! My daughter loves their Spanish rice. They do it right compared to other restaurants around the area. Will continue to order from them when we crave Mexican food. Plus the food always comes fresh and piping hot! After my 3rd visit over the past 5 years, I have come to the conclusion that this place is just excellent. Friendly and quick service, very generous portions, tasty food, and the prices are cheap. Had the pick three combo fajitas and was reminded that they do something that I really, really love - they include cut up jalapeños that have the seeds removed as part of the medley of onions and bell peppers that are on the hot plate. The flavor of seared jalapeños can't be beat in fajitas. One other thing, shredded Mexican cheese comes with the fajitas - seems to be a rarity as I never see that anymore. Unfortunately the tortillas are just the packages kind, but everything else was perfect - lots of chicken (delicious), steak (really delicious) and 4 large shrimp, large amount of guacamole, Mexican cheese, lots of great pico de gallo makes this one of the great fajitas that I have ever had. It's now on my radar to come a lot more often than 3 times over 5 years. read more

We came here for the first time around 2 months ago and have been coming back at least once a week since. Really really good Tex Mex, not greasy like most, always very fresh, and good prices. Service is super fast and it's a nice relaxed atmosphere usually with just a handful of people inside. I highly recommend getting either steak or shredded beef. Their chicken is also quite good. Not a fan of the queso, but they have great guacamole. Verde and chipotle sauces are also great. They have refried, black, and pinto beans (all great) and are happy to swap ingredients for whatever you prefer. Best burrito bowls I've had, great enchiladas, and super chimichangas! Tampico is a hidden Mexican gem in Laurel. From the first bite to the last bite we were in Taco Tuesday Heaven. It all started with the free nachos and salsa brought to the table. The fresh made nachos were perfect, not too salty, not too greasy, just right. Salsa was flavorful and delicious. My Beautiful Wife ordered the two taco platter with a soft and hard chicken and beef along with rice and beans. In a word, wow. The flavor the texture, everything on the plate was on point. I went hard and ordered the Tampico Sampler which came with Wings, Chicken Taquitos, Chicken Quesadillas, and Steak Nachos. Wow, wow, wow. I thoroughly enjoyed the platter. I also ordered a hard shell ground beef taco and was blown away by the flavor. Our waitress Erin was really nice and attentive. I am not sure why we haven't visited this amazing little spot before but trust and believe we will be back for more. Sadly, I have to downgrade my review. I made an online order and the experience was horrible. To top things off, the food was terrible. 0 minutes - I receive an email showing my order was approved and processed, and the food would be ready in 35 minutes. 35 minutes - I arrive at the restaurant and call to see if my order is ready. They told me that it wasn't and it would be another 10 minutes. I stay in the car and wait. 45 minutes - I go into the restaurant to pick-up my food. They tell me it's not ready. I figured since they told me it would only be another 10 minutes, 10 minutes ago, I stand near the door. After waiting inside a few minutes I go back outside since people are coming in and out. I eventually go back to the car and wait. 1 hour - I go back inside and ask them if my food is ready. They can't find my food. I tell them I had the order with the chicken chimichanga, 3-item fajita, and queso. The guy asks if I paid. I told him of course I paid, I made the order online. (Duh!) After a few minutes of looking around they hand me a bag. I go outside to check the bag and it didn't include my order; it had the chimichanga and something that looked like mashed potatoes. I go back in and tell them this isn't my order; where's the rest of my food. A different guy tells me that the fajitas are in there because the order included a salad fajita. Mind you there's no lettuce or other salad fixings in the bag, and on top of it I didn't order a salad fajita. I tell them, again, that I ordered a chicken chimichanga; fajita with shrimp, chicken, and portobello; and large queso. I ask them where's the rest of my food and if they lost my order. Now they're looking for my order and the ticket. They find the order information from the register and continue to look for my food. One of the cooks eventually comes out from the kitchen to figure out where my food is. 1 hour, 20 minutes - I finally have my food. I'm angry when I leave because they couldn't even apologize for the snafu. I know things happen, but saying sorry would have made me annoyed and not angry. This story doesn't get any better. I get home and open up the containers. (I took a quick glance before I left to make sure everything was there, but didn't really check to see what the food looked like.) The fajitas consisted of onions, onions, and more onions. There were 3 slivers of bell pepper, 4 shrimp, maybe half a portobello or maybe it was a small portobello, and a few pieces of chicken. The rice with the chimichanga was hard. I also asked that they not add pico de gallo in the chimichanga and they did. The chimichanga was ok - there wasn't a lot of filling in it. In fact, there wasn't a ton of pico de gallo either. So after waiting 1 hour 20 minutes to get my food that according to their email should have only taken 35 minutes, the food was mediocre. Whether the overload of onion in the fajita was done purposefully, I'll never know. All I do know is that I won't be going back, ever. read more

I ordered the Steak Chimichanga that comes with rice and sauce. It's the perfect blend and tastes great! What I love the most is their exceptional customer service. Each time I've visited I am greeted with a smile. They make very good drinks too! This is a quiet spot where you can get a great meal and great service! The prices are fairly reasonable. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and the large Tampico sampler which came with wings, taquitos, chicken quesadillas, and steak nachos. I enjoyed the sampler with the exception of the taquitos. They weren't nasty but I just didn't care for it. I also ordered a small queso dip with chips. The dip consisted of pickled jalepenos, beer, fresh tomatoes and other spices. The dip would have been better minus the beer. I didn't realize it had beer in it till i ate it and tasted a distinct taste. I then read the menu and realizeded "ohhh, thats what that is". When I left i saw a couple and they had drinks in their hand. I asked them what they were drinking and he mentioned Horchata. I asked him what that was. He said "you know when you eat cinnamon toast crunch? Well it tastes like the milk from that. So I said bet, turned around to get some. When I went in I asked what other drinks they had. He told me Horchata, Tamarindo and Marañon. I decided to try the jugo de marañon and figured, I'll be back to try all the flavors. When I went to pay for it, I handed my card to the older man and he asked if I had cash. I told him no. He seemed to be a bit annoyed and said something about it was a low amount to put on my card. So in my head, i'm thinking you either gonna take this card or not but that's all I got for you. So the lady behind me said, don't worry about it to put the drink on her card and she wished me a Happy New Year. I grade Mexican restaurants on their refried beans, and their red enchilada sauce. For dinner, I had the red sauced enchiladas, and a sidecar steak taco. Both were excellent- truly excellent. One of Laurel's best kept secrets, Tampico Grill is an excellent hole-in-the-wall for Tex-Mex. Great for Carry Out or dine in. The bar area is cool, too and equipped with a few (small) TVs. Affordable, delicious, authentic Mexican food with generous portions. The carnitas were delicious and huge! Took me three meals total to finish them all.... The chicken quesadilla was good and cheesy. I wasn't overly impressed with the frozen classic margarita, it was too syrupy and strong. The place is 1970's vinyl booths and the staff speaks limited English, as long as you don't go in creating an entirely custom dish, you should have an enjoyable experience. Good find! read more
