We camped here for 4 days August 13,14,15,16 2020. Tent camping at site 28 on the river. 5 of us, 3 tents. PROS - Quiet- midnight fires must be out, and quiet is enforced from 10pm on. When you go to sleep, all you can hear is the cricket chorus, the occasional animal in the woods and ducks playing in the water. Dark- there are only lights at the bathrooms/showers the rest of the campground is completely pitch black except for what your fellow campers set up. Bring a flashlight. The stars are BREATHTAKING! There is so much tree/leaf cover- you really feel like you are camping in the middle of a forest (because you are). The Swift River- While you can't really go "swimming", it gets deep in spots, but it is fantastic for lazy tubing, cooling off and plopping your chairs in the water and chatting for hours. The water is clear, clean and cold. Wonderful! My two sons and I along with their friends spent days digging up rocks from the river bed and worked on making a dam next to our site- ridiculous simple, fun. Location- centrally located and not far from Conway, Meredith and Ossipee. Staff - friendly and helpful Firepits/grills- the pits are cemented down in location, which is fine. They are large, round, and have a convenient grill attached. There is NOTHING like burgers cooked over a bed of charcoal or wood. Site cleanliness - The sites all have a bed of gravel laid down on them and are raked/cleaned - along with the ashes/debris from the firepit- after a party leaves and before the next arrive. There is not much ground cover, bushes, grass, which keeps down on the bugs & ticks. Speaking of that, we may have just been there at the right time of year, but there were almost zero bugs! CONS - Cleanliness/Condition of facilities- I would've given this campground 5 stars however their bathrooms and showers are really showing their age. A bit dilapidated and very dirty- lots of spiders/webs/nest/cocoons- shows that they haven't been deep cleaned in a LONG time. I know, it is the woods and there will be bugs, but if the facilities were deep cleaned at least occasionally, it wouldn't be this bad. The showers are coin operated- .25$ for 5 minutes- which is doable. I hear/see that they are in the process of updating their entrance/camp store, so hopefully their bathroom/showers are in line for an update as well. RECOMMENDATIONS - If you can, get a premium, river-side spot, the further from the entrance/beach the better. Though you will have a hike to get to the bathrooms, the quiet/dark is wonderful and having the river at your doorstep is amazing! We were at site 28 and it was large enough for 3 cars and 3+ tents with room to spare. Went to sleep listening to the crickets and the murmur of the river, woke up to songbirds and the sun. The river also cools your site by about 10 degrees as compared to our friends site which was closer to the office. Our site also had electric and water as well- bring a 50'ft cord and it will stretch to every spot on your site. SUMMARY - Beautiful, quiet, dark, cool and for the most part clean. Spring for a river spot. Hopefully with the coming updates, they will address the bathrooms/showers issues with cleanliness. Would definitely stay here again. read more

I hate to give this campground such a bad review but the new management is terrible. A family campground taken over by corporate to exploit the customer. I have gone to this campground for many years. On Friday I booked a site for next month, after booking I contacted to say I would have 3 dogs instead of the 2 they allowed. The previous owner always said it was fine. They contacted me and said that they would not allow this. So I said ok cancel my reservation. That is fine I understand your strict rule of two dogs. They did and kept $78. this reservation was literally over the course of 11 hours. After going back and forth emailing telling them it was unreasonable to keep $78 of my money over a 11hour span. The new owner basically told me to move on it was in the fine print. This was the worst customer service ever in a campground. So sad, had a lot of nice memories there, too bad terrible dishonest people are now running it. read more

Review of Tamworth Campground - 306 Depot Road, NH I don't usually write reviews, but after our recent experience at Tamworth Campground, I feel compelled to speak up. We are a Latino family and had been planning a meaningful family reunion for months--celebrating my sister's 46th birthday and honoring life after recent personal challenges. What was supposed to be a joyful and healing weekend turned into a deeply disappointing and uncomfortable experience due to the staff's poor treatment, lack of professionalism, and what we strongly feel was targeted and unfair behavior. We reserved three campsites at nearly $80 each (which is not a problem). My sister--an experienced camper, teacher, social worker, and holistic healer--put her heart into organizing this event. Some family members flew in from out of state; the rest of us drove hours from different parts of New England to come together. I myself am a city advocate for Boston and was genuinely looking forward to a rare, peaceful break with loved ones. Unfortunately, our experience was anything but peaceful. From the start, our group was singled out. Staff repeatedly visited our site with noise complaints--despite several other campsites nearby hosting loud parties, including one that went on until 3 a.m. We were surrounded by louder groups but appeared to be the only ones policed. Our children--mostly under 10--were simply enjoying family time outdoors. I even walked around to apologize to other guests; all of whom assured me they weren't disturbed. One neighboring group admitted to having over 10 people on their site and said no staff had approached them once. On Saturday, my brother arrived after driving five hours with his son to join us. The staff immediately claimed we were over capacity. According to their "six heartbeats per campsite" rule, we were technically over by just two--with 20 total people spread across three sites: 8 adults, 4 teens, and 8 children between the ages of 2 and 10. Rather than work with us, the staff refused to hear us out. My sister, trying to deescalate the situation, agreed to pay for a fourth campsite--even though it was unnecessary. Ironically, that fourth site remained empty, and I ended up joining it just to stay within their arbitrary enforcement. One staff member in the front office was particularly rude, unprofessional, and dismissive. She repeatedly talked over my sister, showed no empathy, and used sarcasm instead of solutions. My sister remained calm and respectful throughout, simply trying to find a way to comply. The staff member continued to cut her off, reciting policies and refusing to acknowledge it was our first time at the campground. She kept repeating that "a heartbeat is a heartbeat" regardless of age, as if we weren't already trying to follow the rules in good faith. On top of that, the Wi-Fi only worked near the front office--not a major issue for us, but worth noting for those who rely on it. What really mattered was the repeated feeling of being watched, targeted, and made to feel unwelcome. My pre-teen nieces were even stopped by staff while walking to the bathroom and asked if they were "with the Garcia group." After saying yes, the staff looked at each other and drove away. It made the kids feel singled out and uncomfortable. On Sunday, a staff member began circling my sister's campsite around 9 a.m.--two hours before checkout--pressuring her to leave. While she did run an hour late (and paid the fee), the constant hovering felt excessive. We left the campsites cleaner than we found them. We followed rules. We remained respectful--even while feeling judged, unwelcome, and unfairly monitored. And while I hate to play the race card, it's impossible to ignore how differently we were treated from other groups around us. We were a Latino family--and we were targeted from day one, well before any noise complaints or policy issues came up. With the exception of two kind and professional staff members (a young woman with curly hair at the register and another woman with short hair on a golf cart), the tone and treatment we received were unacceptable. Rules can be enforced professionally--without sarcasm, without assumptions, and without making guests feel like a burden. We will not be returning. I had even considered hosting a retreat here for a group of 90 active older adult campers--but after this experience, I could never recommend this place. The natural surroundings were beautiful. The human experience was not. Tamworth Campground has a lot of work to do when it comes to hospitality, inclusion, and basic customer service. read more

The 3 sites I booked for my family were on the river and great to float and cool off ...water was low ...but the kids still had fun ...the dog park was nice ....the bathroom and shower were separate and very nice and clean. the help were very friendly but some need to learn to be a little more accommodating ( for the lack of a better word) my husband and I came a day earlier and they said because no one in the other sites I had booked the next two days we could park there and I could set up my sons tent that we had with us which we did. But they next day when he came and was two hours before checkin time we have to pay for him to be a visitor at my site. He couldn't be at his site unless we paid early check in. Yet we were allowed to set up the tent in the morning. This just felt odd and petty. One minute being accommodating then next not! All for $10??? Leaving us with this impression... not that we can't afford it just seems to be nitpicking. Also seemed like they were getting the hang of checking in people she seems confused when o was talking of when my children were arriving. Perfect woodsy quiet NH campground, lovely friendly owners, and all around great weekend stay. As a plus, the bathrooms were actually one of the cleanest campground bathrooms I've ever used. If I ever come back to the area I would 100% stay here again! read more

Not sure how to even start this review, but if I could give a negative 10 stars I would. For 15 years my club has been participating in a fundraiser for the Make -A- Wish Foundation NH chapter at this location. This year I found the new management to be terrible uncaring human beings. The organizers of the event were denied permission for important deliveries and unable to set up generators for the stage and booths in a timely fashion. Bathrooms on the field were filthy with no toilet paper, no proper feminine disposal bins, and at one point they had no water. The new bathrooms had no wheelchair ramp. They closed the office early at 4pm on Friday and Saturday so Ice and firewood was unavailable, not just for the event but for campers coming in after that time. They were incredibly rude to club members and were charging an extra $25 if you tried to check in early. If you walked past the gate and were not checked in ( even if you had a reservation) they threatened to charge you with trespassing and call the sheriff. These clubs travel from all over New England every year to be there and help raise money for children. Just unacceptable in my book and I will never be back. read more

The new management is friendly and effective. The bathr are spotless. They organize fun activities for adults and kids on the weekends. The staff is welcoming and even got to know my kids by name. As soon as we got home we were already booking our next trip to Tamworth Campground. They were so wonderful my husband asked me to make sure I gave them a 5 star review. read more

It's good for the price. No issues except one that has been extremely annoying. A camper with two loud large dogs has been letting them loose the entire time . Running and barking throughout the park. They ran up to my dog who isn't friendly. It wasn't fun. No enforcement at all. Not much maintenance going on. Grass needs cutting.And weed whacking. Tamworth has been part of our families yearly traditions for over 30 years. Laurie & Dana never fail to provide a great camping experience for us. The sites are clean and equipped with a nice fire pit that allows you to cook meals over the fire. Great location along the beautiful Swift River, great for swimming, fishing, and floating. This place is a good value if you have Passport America. That is how we found this place and why we stayed there. You can't beat half price full hookups and it's what makes it possible for us to travel as much as we do. That being said the staff and owner were all friendly and helpful and they offered what we needed. Just be aware it's nothing fancy, and is showing its age having been there 53 years, but it has what you need including laundry and a store. It's secluded but close enough to the towns and centrally located to attractions around lakes and mountains. Also, you can do some light relaxing river tubing, which I did for the first time here. There is a playground, some farm animals, showers and a volleyball court if that's your thing. Additionally, they have sports equipment and mini golf they will offer again after the SCAMdemic is over. The spot we had was gravel and level and raked clean and welcoming for us. We even had our own fire pit where we made our first charcoal and wood BBQ burgers ever. We stayed 5 days for $130 and maxed out passport america discount for the week and would return again. The only drawback was the low 25 PSI water pressure at our site. 40 PSI is standard and I have my adjustable regulator set to take 50 PSI which is safe and strong when it can get it. This place is on well water and limited so I understand. The solution is to not run directly off the water but fill your tank and use the water pump on our RV. You just have to refill repeatedly. read more

I'm unsure where I should start with this. This place has a few nice things about it, but has a lot of not so nice things about it. When we searched on the Internet about this place it had everything a person would want including great prices. We arrived and the people in the office were very kind and inviting. We rented their top camper. A woman brought us to the camper and showed us everything about it. My kids were very excited about the basketball hoop and my God daughter was excited about the playground. I myself was excited about the river and the fishing spots they told us about on the phone. The kids played ball for the 1st day and then the hoops got taken down. Now what does a teen then do? Phone and tablets of course. Wifi was provided, but in a very small area near the office. The wifi was very weak so we had 3 teens siting with nothing to do. The hoops never got put back up due to a group of older kids whom left on our second day. We explained to the office that the hoops are down and the kids have nothing to do. We were told the hoops would go back up, but need repair because the kids were hanging on them. So day 3 arrives and still no hoops and kids are stressed and there is nothing to do. I'm making breakfast and I see what seems to be a cockroach in the sink. So I send it down the sink cause I'm thinking maybe it's a beetle of some sort and I did not want the wife to see it and freak. The morning goes on and I ask a couple of workers where I could find the fishing spots. One gentleman says "there is no spots, and if you find a spot it sucks". I respect that as I'm a fisherman myself and would tell other if a spot sucked. Now we plan to go out for day to find stuff to do. There was really nothing to do (other than go to the river and swim or walk the river). The river was nice and I think was the best part of the stay honestly. So the wife gets out the shower and goes to the closet to get some things out of her bags and screams. There was roaches in the closet. I kill and put a dead one in the bag as others scattered. We call office and explain the issue. They come take the bag to office and contact. Roaches were found in the toaster we had just used for breakfast. We spent a few hours taking our stuff out of the camper and checking and shaking everything off. We bagged any electronics. It was then confirmed that there were cockroaches in the camper. We can't blame them for the bug issue as I'm sure other people staying probably brought them in. But I hope they will fix that problem and not just rent to others with this issue. I definitely don't want to bring them home with me and the family and I'm sure no one else wants to either. So we got fully refunded without an issue and we appreciate that. But our complaint is not about refunds, but that there is nothing to do for teens and honestly not to much to do for the younger ones. If it weren't for the playground this place would have nothing. Would I recommend this place? Sure, if your an older couple and like peace and quiet. Hopefully you won't have a bug issue. read more

Camped here in early September in the field for the annual New England Homebrewer's Jamboree. While attending the festival, I walked through the campground and marveled at how picturesque the sites by the river are and plan to come back next summer and book one of those. Prices are around $50 per night for river spots. Lots of RVs seem to buy seasonal spots and I met someone who was staying through November. They have lots of activities for the kiddos, including mini golf, a small beach along the river, a petting zoo and more. Went into the office to get more information about booking for next summer (I had booked through the Jamboree, so did not experience the regular booking process of the campground). They told me they do not do online reservations, you must call to book. Nice, family owned vibe. Used the showers and they require quarters. 25 cents per 5 minutes. Bathrooms were clean with hot water. Will definitely be back. Would make a good camping spot when I want to take my niece to StoryLand (36 minutes away). read more

I would give less than one of it were possible. This place was completely unprofessional. We were reprimanded for making too much noise our first night, which can happen, and we take responsibility for that.....and we completely responded and complied with the issue and quieted down.....but this place handled things so disrespectfully it wasn't even funny. On day two we are cooking our dinner and staying quiet and in line with "the norm" and a gentleman comes to our camp site and complains about us the previous night and tells us to be quiet this coming evening....in the rudest manner no less. The group of us consists of 6 pretty chill women and he was very rude and unprofessional and we will not be returning. I would take responsibility for any action that is unacceptable but we are just a few women having a good time and god forbid anyone enjoy themselves in this campsite. read more

This place is awful. First of all, the spots are not level and very muddy. Some of the campsites look like someone dumped trash around them. Checked in after being up very early and driving all day. Looking forward to some relaxation and sleep to prepare for the next day of driving. Well they neglected to tell us that there was a concert at the RV park that night. Around 7 pm the very loud music started. It was so loud that we could barely carry on a conversation in our trailer. We called the office because at first we thought it was our neighbor playing loud music. The manager said that someone would check it out and they would get it stopped. I asked what the quiet times was and he said that the quiet time was at 9:30 pm. He never mentioned that the RV park was hosting a planned concert that night even though he knew that is exactly what we were calling about. Well the concert went on until 10:30 pm. At 10:00 pm we tried calling the office but you only get an answering machine. The band was one of the worst bands that I have ever heard. It literally sounded like a bunch of drunks that went out that same day and bought some instruments. They couldn't sing, or play instruments which made the noise even more unbearable. There were a bunch of other campers yelling and clapping and dogs off leash running all over - including running through our campsite. After the band finally quit playing, the noise continued with people talking, yelling and banging around until after 11:15 pm. We would have had a much quieter experience in a Walmart parking lot. We were tired and exhausted and have a long day of driving the next day with little sleep. If you are looking for a crowd of drunks carrying on until the wee hours, this is the perfect place for you. If you're looking for a relaxing and enjoyable camping trip, look elsewhere! read more

This is a rustic campground with above average size sites. The river site are really nice! I've read the other reviews. One of them claims they were spoken to disrespectfully . Truth be told I remember these bunch of young girls , if they had to reminded to keep it respectful there was a good reason. If you want real reviews and not from a vengeful aspect go to their web page or Facebook page and read the reviews. It's the campgrounds responsibility to make sure all customers enjoy their time and that is why there are rules, rules some people don't think they apply to them. The staff here are all friendly , it's a family ran campground. If you are looking for things for your kids to do within 3 miles there's a great mini golf, go carts, laser tag , swimming , kayak rentals etc etc. this is for another reviewed that there kids were bored. As far as WiFi most campgrounds no not have wide spread service. I would recommend this place to anyone that is looking for a rustic campground with large clean sites , pretty good activities on Saturday nights . If you are looking for a resort this is not it , it's peaceful and a great place to bring your family, tent or RV. read more
