All I had here was bubble tea and some sort of Bahn Mi. Neither notable, though the bubble tea did have fresh watermelon in it. The Bahn Mi didn't have much filling and the bread was far too stale and flaky for my taste. The key with finding a good restaurant from a culture you are unfamiliar is not to just eat whatever the going fad is. Which in Vietnamese cuisine is of course Bahn Mi and Pho. I did not follow my own advice, therefore I am disappointed. The staff also wears "you wanna pho?" shirts. I think that is ridiculous, annoying, and bordering on an inappropriate reference to something that is inappropriate for children. Anyway might be worth a try if you are in the area. read more

Greatest Vietnamese food in the city. As others have said, Pho Tau Bay used to be my favorite, and for certain items, I still love Pho Tau Bay, liked the steamed vermicelli patties, but Tan Dinh has overtaken the throne on the whole. The fried chicken wings with garlic and salt and pepper lime sauce are possibly the best chicken wings I've ever had. My other favorite is the coconut sticky rice patties are also a favorite of mine, paired perfectly with the grilled lemongrass chicken au jus. The spring rolls are good, not the best I've ever had, I think Pho Orchid does the best spring rolls, but the pork paste spring rolls with the crab sauce are pretty great. Service is spotty. Some of the servers are downright horrible, albeit nice. But others pick them up. Doesn't matter though, because Tan Dinh is the shit. read more

i ate t A caviat to those who read this. I was born an raised in Vietnam until the age of 15 when I relocated to SoCal at the end of the war so perhaps my tastebud and standard are more critical. My perception of this restaurant is own and operate by younger Vietnamese generation who are born here in the US so their idea of good Vietnamese food is nowhere close to the real thing. the last time I visited Marrero last year and the food was at best horrible. They don't know how to cook. To be fair as with the majority of the so-called "Vietnamese restaurants here are very much the same. horrible quality meals. Not even close to authentic by a long stretch. Perhaps fusion is best to describe, This is why there are good reviews from local folks about them. Restaurant is clean but slower than molasses. Limited menu with simple dishes. Price then was average. I would not go there again. But it is wonderful to see my people thrive and doing well here in America. read more

Considering the only other place I've had Vietnamese food before was Pho Tau Bay (which I loved before eating at Tan Dinh), I can't say that my experience with the cuisine is extensive enough to do a review. But I won't let that stop me! Compared to Pho Tau Bay, Tan Dinh is about 20 times better. The ingredients are fresher. I had Pho Bo Ko (I think) at both places, and you get way more "fixins" (peppers, sprouts, etc) at Tan Dinh than you do at Pho Tau Bay, and they're way fresher (I think I said that already lol). Also, the portion size is WAY bigger at Tan Dinh as well. And if you're a spring roll fan like I am, you will never be able to eat a roll from Pho Tau Bay ever again after having one from Tan Dinh. Again, I think everything is way fresher. I used to eat at Pho Tau Bay every week or so, but ever since a friend introduced me to Tan Dinh, I've only been back once. And that pretty much served as a reminder to only have vietnamese food at Tan Dinh (unless there's something better--- but I don't know if there is). OH and they have a large variety of tapioca drinks and slushies which are so good. Try the avocado flavored one. Woah. I've finally found a competitor to Nine Roses. And they're just a few blocks apart! I went for the first time last night - we had chargrilled pork springrolls which were obviously freshly made to order - cool and savory with just the right amount of pork and herbs. Then our main dishes - Spicy BBQ beef ribs with sticky rice cakes & kim chee. First time I've ever heard of Korean-Viet fusion. It was DEELISH! The beef was nicely spiced and had a savory hint of fish sauce, the rice cakes were crispy outside and sticky with a hint of coconut inside. The other dish was goat curry - also quite delicious with just the right level of spice. Oh, I'll be back Tanh Dinh. I'll be back. And I'm bringin an army of friends. read more

Apparently people love the chicken pho here. I am not a fan. It doesn't have the spicy (cinnamon, star anise, etc.) that pho normally has. THAT is what I love about pho. This pho was a strong chicken flavor. Very strong. Like that little dry packet in the packaged ramen strong. Maybe they use bouillon to enhance the flavor? and a bit buttery/greasy tasting. The chicken is all fatty gristly dark meat which I hate. The spring rolls are large but the chicken in them was again, dark meat. The chicken bahn mi, also fatty gross dark meat!! I just can't deal with that chicken. I didnt eat any of it. I won't be returning. I've eaten at several westbank vietnamese restaurants on the westbank and this is my lease favorite. This was a disappointing experience from start to finish. Food, service, everything just left a bad taste in my mouth. The fresh shrimp rolls were huge but it was cause it was just filled with rice noodles and not much else. The peanut sauce was weak and needed more hoisin and crushed peanuts. The fried spring rolls were also huge but they were unbelievably oily. It was so gross and unappetizing. And the fish sauce was so mild it added no flavor. The pho came out not as hot temperature wise that I'd expect. The noodles made the broth taste too starchy and the soup lacked the depth of flavor that it should have. Service was lazy. I went by myself and I really enjoyed the food and service. I had some spicy wings which were better than any wings I've ever ate before. The combo rice noodle were to die for. Perfect place to go if ur sick, I only mean if your sick and need soup. Great portions of food and fresh veggies on the side. Incredible. Everything here is fantastic and inexpensive. Personal recommendations would include any bun mi with pork pate, spare ribs, and the sticky rice cakes. Also, the pho with the rare beef is a delicious winter treat (which is only like two weeks long in New Orleans, but still). Tan Dinh is one of the top choices my family goes to when we go out to eat, but it's not one of my favorite places to frequent for Vietnamese food. TD used to be so awesome, and I used to always think of going there as a treat. Now, everything's just mediocre, BUT you still can't go wrong if TD is your choice for food. Too bad the parking lot can only hold like 15 cars. Atmosphere Two TVs, a little cold, big counter, a bunch of tables, a huge illuminated sign of tapioca drinks, and a fridge of Vietnamese desserts. Very casual and laid back, but don't feel out of place if you happen to roll in all decked out in Gucci, Gucci, Gucci. Food I find their pho (chicken noodle soup) a little on the oily side, and the chicken dry--which is strange considering it's in a broth (3/5). That's disappointing. I like their spring rolls (3.5/5), but not the peanut sauce as much. I absolutely despise the eggrolls (0/5) :X Their ca kho (fish) is pretty delicious (4/5), but sometimes a little too much pepper. Canh chua (sweet/sour soup) is pretty decent, but I wish they put more tamarind in it (3.5/5). I've tried lots of other dishes, but I don't quite remember too much about it. Besides, their menu has LOADS to choose from. They even have a vegetarian menu for all you herbivores. Service It really depends on who your server is here, but they all are really helpful if you don't know what to choose or what the items are. Pay the cashier at the counter when you're done eating, and leave tip on the table. Why 3 stars I eat Vietnamese food on a regular basis (not that it has anything to do with the fact that I'm Vietnamese), and Tan Dinh is missing that element that makes me crave their pho, banh cuon, com xuon, or whatever. The food isn't bad there, but it's not all that either. So, right in the middle for you Tan Dinh, BUT Tan Dinh did win over my coworkers who never had Vietnamese food before. Good job. read more

I came here after reading a list of eateries in the area and this was voted the best pho place in the WestBank. Since I live in the Westbank, I decided to try it! I ordered the regular pho and fried egg roll. The pho bowl was a generous portion with a flavorful broth. My toddler also enjoyed the pho! They also didn't skimp on the meat! The egg roll was interesting, I don't know what type of wrap they used but it was yellow colored. It was also extremely oily. I probably won't order that again, but the pho was satisfying! read more

Tan Dinh is the best place on the west bank. i love this place so much. i have been a million times. i have gotten a couple things and they have always been great. my go to dish is the sticky rice with tofu and house curry (get extra curry). it is amazing. you'll get your sodium intake for the week in one sitting but it is the bomb. Amazing. Atmosphere is just a standard place so not much going on. staff is nice. these things are trivial. go for the food. this place is great. A few years ago, I saw that this place was voted #1 for Pho in the city. Being a fans of Vietnamese cuisine, my husband and I had to give it a try. Every single bowl of Tan Dinh's steaming comfort soup has been better than the last. When I'm feeling under the weather, blue, or just in a funk, THIS is my go-to place for a great pick me up. Have actually been in the full-blown middle of a cold and, after a bowl of Pho Ga, I was over it! Highly recommend the shrimp spring rolls-so, so good. The other dishes I've tried did not disappoint, either. The charbroiled pork (or shrimp) Bun, Lemongrass chicken Jasmine Rice Plate (to die for) and, Banh Bao- rotisserie chicken or shrimp with tamarind (like puffy, soft white cloud tacos) ALL hit the spot for fixing my craving for my favorite cuisine. There's probably fancier Vietnamese restaurants, possibly ones with more diverse menus, and a bigger wine/beer selection. But, for my tastes and preferences, this is some good stuff. Every single time we've come here, they greet us like old friends, and treat us like family. Not sure why a few of the reviews here are SO critical, maybe some people are just hard to please. Ever since Tan Dinh moved to its new location and became more modernized , its fallen short. I use to come here and eat either one of two things: 1. Pho Ga (Vietnamese noodle soup with chicken) or 2. Com Ga Roti (Vietnamese roasted chicken with rice or if you prefer sweet rice) The food is still decent but overpriced! The food isn't as good as it use to be and that the main reason why I don't frequent the restaurant anymore. To be honest, this is my least favorite Vietnamese restaurant in the area, but it's still pretty decent. The banh mis are worth trying as are any of the lemongrass dishes. Unfortunately, the pho is usually too greasy for my liking. I've had plenty of pho and this is the greasiest I've had. While I won't dog the place, there are at least three better Vietnamese restaurants in the area (Kim Son, Pho Tau Bay and 9 Roses). My wife and I went for the first time to Tan Dinh for lunch last week. We started with the spring rolls, which were good but not really remarkable. They were served with a thick peanut sauce that my wife really enjoyed. I then had the bun thit nuong triess tien - the Korean beef short ribs - and my wife had the salt and pepper shrimp. The short rib dish, with vegetables and noodles, came out a bit dry, and the noodles were a starchy mass. I spoke with our waiter about whether the dish usually comes with a sauce, and he said that Vietnamese people usually apply some fish sauce at the table, and Americans put anything/everything on it. (Surprisingly honest, right?) I gave it a good ¼ cup of fish sauce, and a few squirts of hot sauce (maybe a diluted gochujang?), mixed everything up, and all was well. The meat was still chewy (not "tender" as the menu said), but the dish was tasty. The salt and pepper shrimp was not what we had had before many times when we lived in St. Louis, which were either shell-on or off, quick fried, lightly dressed with fish sauce (?), and served on a bed of raw cabbage with a garnish of quick-fried hot peppers and scallions. Tan Dinh's version seemed to be battered, deep fried, and then sauced, served with rice and a side sauce of your choice: tamarind or lemongrass-fish sauce. Having heard recommendations of the lemongrass sauce, we went with that. The shrimp were sweet, the sauce was tasty (even before the lemongrass-fish sauce option), and we both enjoyed the dish. We'll definitely be returning to Tan Dinh, as the menu has a lot of interesting items. read more

Fast delicious food for a good price. The spring rolls are delicious. My "go-to"s are the charbroiled pork vermicelli bowl and any type of banh bao. I would highly recommend the chicken wings but be prepared to get messy (in the fabulous type of way). The only thing I haven't loved here are the egg rolls. The casing is tough and strange looking. Worst experience ever. When i usually come in the food and service are okay, but this recent trip just killed it. Every time we tried to order something we kept having to re-order because they didn't have it. My drink, that i order everytime i go there, was majority crushed ice and barely any tapioca drink. I was told i had to wait until it melted in order to drink it. Then when we finally got to submit our order we were then told by a different person that one of the dishes that we had two orders of only had one left. After that there was some communication problems between the staff about whether the dish was available or not. This resulted in us getting the dipping sauce but not the dish. We didn't know this happened until about 30 mins after everyone else got their food. The food is overpriced for the crappy experience that we had and trust me there is better for about half the price. Go at your own risk. read more

I was expecting a little bit better. I know a lot of people have told me great stories about their meals here, but I expected a little more. The parking lot is pretty small, but we were able to get a spot. The restaurant is basically one big open room. The staff seemed friendly and attentive enough. The Jasmine iced tea was pretty good. We ordered the Spring rolls for an appetizer. They were very big and odd. I was hoping to get the Lemongrass beef with vermicelli that I always get from 9 Roses, but they only had Lemongrass chicken, so I got that. My friend go the pho. I'm not sure what meat he got in it, but he liked it a lot. When my chicken came out I was already a little skeptical before tasting it. It was a massive serving of whole chicken pieces that still had the skin on. -Not exactly what I had in mind. I tasted it, it didn't have much flavor. It was quite underwhelming. I guess on the plus side, they give you large portions for leftovers. But, if you don't like it much to begin with, the leftovers are even less appealing later. Enjoyed this spot recently with friends. We ordered takeout and I had the fried tofu spring rolls. Their peanut sauce was bomb! A friend ordered egg rolls but they forgot the order so the wait was a bit longer. We also ordered the fried tofu with a spicy chili sauce on top, shrimp buns, and the pho but its not good to take straight to the park (microwave needed or noodles with stick together).
