So - my original review has changed somewhat (see below) and this is totally down to the owner contacting me and explaining that when we got sprayed - they were having problems with formula/bad batch. He was extremely apologetic and offered me to spray again for free and to collect a moisturizing product - also free. In today's society this is exemplery behaviour and for that - I had to re-review. Maybe I will spray again, maybe I won't - but I want to say that if every business had this kind of follow through and looked after their customers to this extent - the world would be a better place - Gary - thank you for your customer follow-through. For that alone - you deserve a 4* and with all the other outstanding Yelp reviews that I actually went by to find you - this is surely just another feather in your cap. Shannon is fantastic! I have never gotten a spray tan before until yesterday, but after reading reviews here I decided to give it a try. I was not disappointed!! I am going to my sisters wedding this week and wanted a little glow and sun before hand. She is very professional and very friendly. If you feel uncomfortable being nude, she can make you feel very at ease. She asks and listens to exactly what you want, etc and since I was new to the airbrushing, she went through the whole process with me ahead of time (and afterwards as well since I knew I'd forget some of the info!). She's very quick and efficient while still being very thorough. I asked her to go a little darker on my legs since I know I'll need to shave again before the wedding. It isn't yellow or orange at all, and suits my skin tone as to how I would normally be colored after natural sun tanning. They also offered a special for first time spray tanning which is normally $59 but I got for $39, and I could purchase a package of additional sessions at the $39 price, otherwise it would subsequently go back to $59. It's a fantastic deal for such an easy experience with great results. I highly recommend Shannon for spray tanning. I learned that she's been doing it for around 13 years, and her experience shows! read more

So I go to Tan LA Thousand Oaks for all my body altering and tanning needs, I personally enjoy the mind altering and mental exercise from verbal entertainment, witticism, comments, compliments (especially the compliments!) and dialog that is provided at the time of arrival and again at the time of departure especially by Gary (missed your calling as a Stand-up Comedian!),John (very wise for one so young!) and their Tan LA staff. If the tanning and body contouring isn't enough, you will enjoy at least the comic relief if not the smiles and the laughter. Sets the tone (this has a double meaning!) and colour for the day, evening or weekend. I am NOT chasing after the Fountain of Youth, and appreciate my many years of hard earned "wear and tear", but I am willing to wage a war on effects of Mother Nature, stress, genes and my environment. I recommend the Collagen Red Light Anti-Aging Therapy sessions or Red Light Facial Skin Rejuvenation Treatments. It at least softens the affects of aging and improved my countenance overall. You should also try the Contour Light Body Sculpting treatments but you also must commit to a sensible exercise routine on the same days to really see an effect in "inches" lost. Meanwhile, I can add testimony to either custom airbrush sunless tanning and/or the new Magic 636 for a touch-up before heading to the Islands! Been There. Done That! Best one stop shopping for your body tanning and treatment needs in Thousand Oaks and in Ventura County. Its extremely sad (and unhealthy) that I still have this number memorized. Ever since I was a tender age (and skin) of 16 I have been going to Tan LA. When I go back home and visit its for the cancer-safe Mystic but I had many bronzed moments courtesy of Tan LA. Their 3 sessions for $12 student special is unreal. I think I was able to grandfather that rate forever. Their beds are great quality and very very clean. I have a new appreciation for clean beds after living in SF. As a recovering Tanorexic I have one lament. Tan LA should offer much better rates for Mystic so safe tanning is more "recessionarily" feasible. read more

I've been browning myself like a rotisserie chicken at Tan LA for years and years and my favorite thing about this place is Gary at the front desk. He is the best customer service person you will ever meet. He is funny, accomodating, keeps the place super clean, and he has the most high tech beds in town. He will even stay late if you want a last minute tan. You can call at any time and a bed is usually available within 15 minutes. There is a huge selection of tanning lotions. There is also a woman that does very good spray tans. Although I have not used her services, I have admired her handiwork on the beefcakes that come out of her spray room. I use the KBL beds which make you feel like you are hanging out at the beach. The tanning bed changes colors, plays lounge music, has an automatic mister, is air conditioned, and there are 3 levels of easy bake: basic, Mediterranean or Caribbean. I wanted to be Beyonce brown so I chose the caribbean setting and I have never been so dark from a tanning bed in my life. It was like I spent an hour in the caribbean when it was only 10 minutes in the KBL bed. read more

To me, one of the most important duties in running a salon is cleanliness. Tan LA is consistent. Their facilities are always clean and they don't let used beds linger. This includes maintaining a clean restroom. And they never fail! They also have several tanning beds available - so I've been fortunate enough to never have to wait for a bed. Either John or Gary are almost always there and they always greet me with a smile when I come in. They're super nice to store customers' tanning lotion. So if you don't want to bring it with you every time, they hold on to it for you until you return. The only service I've used is their stand-up tanning bed - but they also offer teeth whitening and anti-aging treatments. I've been very happy with their tanning service and may consider these additional services in the future. Lastly, they have a parking lot! One less thing to have to think about. Just moved to Thousand Oaks and this place is right up the street. I'm going to Coachella this weekend so I wanted to give my normally very pale skin a healthy glow (I cannot tan, I just turn pink, and then it fades immediately.) I got an airbrush tan from Shannon and she is amaazzzinnnggg. The color looks great on my skin, not fake or orange at all and its so even! She was very friendly and cheerful and I instantly felt comfortable around her. They said it can get pretty busy, so I would recommend making an appointment and make sure you're not late because they will give your spot to someone else if you don't show within 5 mins of your appt time. read more

I am one of the original members of Tan L.A. (H12) Although I have not gone in a while since moving to Moorpark, I have been going to this tanning salon since 1988. Yes I am dating myself. Gary and his staff are always very friendly and treat everyone with equal kindness and respect. When I moved to Moorpark, I did try Miami Tan. Biggest mistake of my life. They did not maintain their beds and bulbs routinely (i.e. bulbs out or very dim). This is just one of the problems I had with Miami Tan. I came in basically brand new to fake and bake and John and Gary made it such a pleasant and easy experience! I tanned once before years ago elsewhere and the staff burnt me and didn't personalize the experience. ** This is for the Camarillo location** I love this place! I've been going for about a month now, after finding an advertisement in the mailer. I bought 7 tans and got 2 free. I never felt pressured to upgrade or add products to my purchase. After a few times in, i went to add a couple more tans in to get myself ready for summer. Eric was so knowledgeable. He knew i was getting white spots in certain areas and advised me moving to a standup (for the same $$) and using my free tans for the leg tanner which would even out my legs and feet (which weren't quite as tan as the rest of me). So helpful! I've always been scared of turning that weird orange color with the blotches and streaks. None of that here, my tan has darkened naturally, and everyone says how great it looks! read more

I just moved to the area and went to a few places before ending up at "Tan La". It was nice to see a tanning salon up to par with the overall atmosphere and most importantly the quality of the beds. The other tanning salons I went to didn't even tan me and the "High Pressure" bed I was put in blackened me! Update: Been tanning here for over a year now and this place keeps getting even better! Just their new KBL 6800 bed and it is great! They just got a new stand up bed that I have not tried yet but my friend loved it. Gonna try that one next week. This has to be the best tanning salon I've ever been to! The staff is so friendly, knowledgeable and they make every effort to make their customers happy. Gary (I think he's the owner) is very thorough and really knows everything there is to know about tanning and how to make you look your best. I was introduced to this place because I was originally a member at Miami Tan in Newbury Park. They closed down and Tan L.A. was kind enough to take over their memberships. No additional fees or charges, and they honored my visits with no expiration date. Plus they offered a great deal on additional visits. The owner, who greeted me, was so nice and helpful. He explained everything in great detail and made sure I was happy. I was bummed when I saw that Miami Tan had closed, but it turns out it was the best thing because this place is AWESOME!!! My experience was not good at all. It caused a lot of anxiety for my event. It was rushed and not what I expected because they have great reviews. The manager/ owner contacted me and sent his sincerely apologies and offered me a refund for services. Very professional and made me feel a lot better that someone in charge was aware. He made me feel that my experience really mattered. It wasn't about a refund, it was about me not wanting this to happen to someone else. Which he made me feel it wouldn't. They are totally fair with pricing and I NEVER feel ripped off. Jon and Gary are such nice guys and always make sure you have a great experience! What I love is they actually take time to get to know their clients - at least that's been my experience and I've seen them interact that way with others while I've been there. This place is the best. Hot dudes work here and you are not intimidated by their tans. They'll keep your lotion for you...and their beds are off the chain. If this place was a man, I would want to have sex with it. They have more than tanning here. They have this anti-aging procedure that is kind of awesome and not that expensive. Shannon is the BEST for airbrush tanning! She knows what she is doing and even uses a hair dryer, which I thought was interesting, but it helps to make it even and so it doesn't drip. You definitely don't have to worry about it being uneven, funky spots, dripping, etc. At the end she puts baby powder on you so you are not all sticky after. She has perfected airbrushing! She also cares that you are happy, if you aren't happy with the color she says to come back the next day and she will go darker if you want. Never had an issue with that though, she is a good judge of color. Price for airbrush is higher than other salons, but for a technician who actually cares that you are satisfied and a worry free quality tan, it's worth it!! read more
