This is awesome. The review that said she was all blotchy after tanning is because she did not shower to remove all the oils and grime from her skin. You can't go tan filthy dirty lady...what's wrong with you? It was a wonderful experience and my tan is absolutely gorgeous!! I get compliments all the time. The owner is awful. He used to let members leave their lotions (not sure if they do anymore) and mine was either lost or stolen and the owner refused to do anything about it-even a discount for a new bottle would've been appreciated. Another time before this I was waiting for a bed to open up and listened to him bashing another tanning salon owner in front of me. He's just incredibly rude and seems to give zero f*cks about his customers. I will never go back to this place because of him. If you want to be treated with dignity and respect when you tan, I suggest you go to Paradise Tanning instead. If you want to be sure the salon will be open when you find time to Tan--particularly if you pay $77 or $93 per month for unlimited tanning and then have to pay a sitter to tan like me--I suggest you go to Paradise Tanning instead. I arrived repeatedly to find TAN unexpectedly closed during business hours. I understand emergencies happen, and I simply went to a nearby salon and paid to tan, on top of my unlimited membership at TAN, and I politely asked the owner to please make us even, by deducting what I had paid from my membership or giving me extra time, or something--I was very flexible, I just did not want to feel I paid twice to TAN. He was hostile and rude, and told me if I went elsewhere, "that's your problem". This guy has absolutely no respect for his clients. He also has a new girl behind the counter every week, as I think it is difficult for him to retain employees, given the way he treats people. Love TAN Soquel. I use the versa spa whenever I have an important event and need to look my best. The staff is always nice and helpful. I don't think any other places in Santa Cruz have a spray tan machine. I like doing this better then getting airbrushed, so I can tan in private and not have to get spray tanned by some random person. I am however very disappointed in some of the negative reviewers very distorted visuals, so let me clear things up from a regular members perspective. As an ex- manager of another Tanning salon in the Bay Area, and I'd say, major consumer- I understand the issues that come into play. Let's flip the script for a moment, imagine YOU spent many MANY -THOUSANDS of dollars on tanning beds, rented a space in an upscale mini-mall, put up visible signs with regard to lotions allowed/disallowed, asked folks not to wear jewelry that might scrape the very delicate surfaces, and then opened YOUR DOORS to the general public, 'come on in and lay down on my beds.' And almost immediately the rules are out the window. People using Hawaiian Tropic, Coppertone, etc; going in with wet nail polish; when the times up- instead of patiently waiting while the system shuts down, deciding to push up on the bed hinges, or pulling it down in the first place- Ask yourself- how many times are you going to replace all of these broken abused components? I've always been impressed with the timely routine maintenance. And up to date bed options. Invite The 'General Public,' to your home, to sit around on your furniture, lay in your bed, borrow your towels, robes, and have a handful of folks, one at a time in charge of managing all of this, and so SO much more. Before you complain about an intensely personal business, THINK. You know, this just might be a families livelihood. *** I KNOW Tanning. Due to my own business, I've tanned in L.A. I was skeptical with reading all the conflicting reviews. I went in wanting a base tan to get me through the winter months. I was pleasantly surprised how professional the front desk person was at describing each package and helping me find the best package for me (not trying to get me to buy the most expensive package just to get it). The monthly agreement is for a minimum of 6 months and it is a simple form that you can fill out in advance to hold or cancel membership. Since I went for a base tan I chose the lowest package $30 a month. I tan easily and went for 12 min my first time. No burning and I think it was the perfect time. The beds are clean and they supply the goggles. I hope every visit is this great. read more

I have been spray tanning here frequently for the last few years and have been meaning to get on here and tell everyone about this. Before finding TAN and the amazing VersaSpa I tried everything to get a beautiful bronzed glow. I found self tanners that were alright, tried other spray tanning machines, and even paid a nice fee to get custom airbrushed... I never got the results I wanted until I ended up at TAN one day after Starbucks out of curiosity checking the prices. I bought one spray tan and tried it and I have been hooked ever since. I requested to cancel my membership because I am moving to Sacramento for work. The woman who helped me assured me that it wouldn't be a problem and that I wouldn't be charged again. She explained that she couldn't do it, however, she that the manager had to do it. So she wrote a note in a notebook and said that the manager would cancel it when he came in. Worst spray tan ever, it's very blotchy so many missed areas and fading completely after 2 days. The solution was so wet, almost felt watery. I asked for shower caps to cover my feet, that has always worked for me. The employee said to just use use the barrier cream, no shower caps. I did slather it on but my feet look awful! I don't like to leave negative reviews... but I'm officially done with "Tan". I've only used the Versa Spa so can't speak to the beds... those do look modern and nice. I used to use tanning beds for years but my doctor lectured me, lol. But the spray tan seems to be getting worse and worse. As someone else said, it's incredibly blotchy after a couple days, and even using the "barrier cream" my hands and feet look crazy. Also, this may not be much of an issue now that it's warming up, but for me whenever I have used the Versa Spa it's *freezing*! Really wish they had a way to warm up the spray. Service is a little bit strange... the people there are nice enough, but not very conversational or seem to care that you're there. Also have tried calling there a few times recently in the middle of the day and no answer each time. Weird :( read more

I've actually been coming to this tanning salon for the last couple of months and it has been a great experience from day one. The girls at the front desk are usually pretty friendly and the beds are always clean. I love that the tanning salon has tons of beds to chose from , and they also offer red light laser treatment. I often go tanning on my lunch so being that I'm always on a time crunch coming in it's nice to always have a room available. Yesterday I went with my girl friends to get a spray tan in the versaspa at this place. We called more than 3 hours before and asked to come at 8- the receptionist said yes. Once we got there the receptionist looked at us like we were idiots and said that the 8-9 had been booked for a photo shoot tans. So basically she double booked. We had to wait for over an hour, and not only was she super rude, but she told the owner right in front of us that she was "being nice" by staying late to let us tan. Although clean and whatnot, these beds did NOT tan me. In fact, they did nothing. The beds have lousy coverage. Yes, they close automatically, but they don't tan your shoulders or sides! I've been to my fair share of tanning salons and I saw the least results with this place. Also, the staff was NOT friendly. They would just sit there and hardly help you. I recently moved home from being out of the area for the past 4 years, and I stumbled across this gem of a tanning salon located in the shopping center containing Safeway and Home Depot on 41st. Their tanning beds are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!! I have only used the lowest two types, but I got SUCH good color that I didn't feel it was necessary to do anything higher. They have super strong air conditioning so that you never overheat in the beds, AND they have aromatherapy so you get air scented with oils(?whatever it is) pumped throughout the bed. It's a fresh citrus scent that is never too overpowering. The place is spotless clean, and their waiting area is super airy and spacious. The girl that usually runs the front desk (don't know what her name is, but she usually has her dog with her) is friendly and courteous. Considering some staff I've encountered working at salons are either rude or lazy, she is a breath of fresh air. I love this place. I live a good 20-25 minutes away, but I make the drive to come here just because I like it THAT much!! :) read more

I won't be using them again. I go to Hawaii once a year and each time I want to get a spray tan before I go. Twice now I have stopped in a week ahead of my trip to book a spray tan. The first time, no one called me back. When I went back in with four day until my trip, they told me they wouldn't be able to fit me in (My schedule was pretty wide open). This last time, again, a week and two days before my trip and it took two visits and four days later a missed call on my phone (No voice message left), only to be told, "We can't fit you in". Really? The one time I did get the spray on tan from them, it was uneven and there were missed areas. I learned my lesson and can't recommend them. read more

I joined this salon and signed a contract and immediately asked to cancel due to the fact that I went several times and tried several beds with NO results. I have been tanning for decades and have never had such poor results. I left several notes for owner and was NEVER contacted. I was told that some bulbs were past due by one of their employees. Not sure if that is true however I can say that I have never gone tanning at any salon and not got results. Went back to previous tanning salon and after one visit I saw results. The manager/owner should have returned any of my dental messages or offered something for the lack of results or let me out of my contract. This was a waste of money and was quite expensive. So recently Tradewinds closed,, and members had been told to go to TAN, our current contract would be honored, So, I went and what a wonderful place it is, everyone so nice and helpful made me feel as if I had been coming that that Salon forever, quick response I had no appointment!!! I was in a bed within a minute the young lady turned the bed on for me , explained what I needed to do, to make changes and asked if I needed more help. that was a great experience needless to say I signed up with TAN that day super clean any time you walk in . Horrible experience. They use extremely burnt out lights in their beds that do not get you tan at all. The owner is supposedly also the only repair man of the beds. He says that he replaces the lights consistently but there is no way that is possible. It is clear to tell by how long it takes to get any sort of color in these beds. Not only that but the spray tan solutions feel like they have water added. I thought I was tan but it faded completely within days, and was ruined in hours. This is by far the worst tanning salon that I have ever been to and that includes ones that are going out of business. There is a complete lack of care about the product you pay for... a simple and easy tan... and it only feels like the owner is trying to sell his lazy business without actually helping us. read more
