Full disclosure- I've always preferred Brueggers bagels. Tandem is ok but it's the chaos behind the counter , unsupervised high school kids either doing nothing or bumping into each, that kills it for me. They seem more focused on packaging up phone in orders than servicing the line to the door by opening a second register. And what's the deal with pushing the tip jars? After waiting 15 minutes to place my order then wait another 15 to pick it up, I've lost the motivation to reward anyone. The quality of the Bagels is the best available in the towns surrounding Hadley. The prep-time was reasonable, and the bagel and coffee was brought to my table. My preference is for the non-whipped cream cheese, because the whipped version made bagel difficult to eat without making a royal mess of yourself. I don't know whether that is an option. The coffee was a little better than that generally available in Western Massachusetts, and didn't necessitate adding cream to make it potable. Do take a detailed look at some of the tables--they may give you ideas for a creative project, and they do add to the general ambiance. Great find on my way up to Vermont. There is a very local vibe here. It seems like many regulars were sitting in the main area having conversations or playing games. I could see myself doing the same if I lived nearby. The wonderful server behind the counter sparked great conversation and, of course, I asked for bagel recommendations. She went with the blueberry bagel with cream cheese, and I grabbed a French toast bagel for the road. The blueberry bagel was amazing and filling. Grabbed a coffee on the way out and was on my way. We tried this place again since we like their bagels but our bagel arrived and we waited over 7 minutes later for our coffee. They should work "in tandem" as their name implies to make sure your entire order arrives at the same time. If coffee is the slower of the two, then have people order their coffee first and then the food. I like my food to arrivea t the same time since I like hot food hot and cold food cold. My bagel was mostly gone by the time the coffee arrived. I don't like telling them what to add because they don't know how light or dark I like my coffee so I prefer they had it out for people to add their own. I stopped in for a bagel and cream cheese. I got the Poppy bagel and some jalapeño cream cheese. It was good, but they didn't cut the bagel in half so it was a little bit messy and I had to tear it apart, which created quite a mess. When they're not crazy busy, this place is five stars!! The staff is so so sweet and helpful, even today with a 45 minute wait and no seating available. I got an egg sandwich to-go but it didn't have any egg which was pretty disappointing after how long I waited. Everytime we go we always brave ourselves with some sort of disappointment. They either mess up our order, don't have what we've ordered or take almost 20mns to make the order even w/o anyone in front of us. They also prioritize online orders, so don't think just because you took your lovely time to go in store they're going to prioritize you. You can sit there for 10mns+ waiting and you can see staff making and packaging up orders for people who aren't even there to pick them up. The bagels are alright, but it all just tastes the same galric-cheesy flavor after awhile. Also, please if you have an allergy of some type please check your order before leaving. We usually order basic and simple orders, and they've always managed to mess it up, but this place also offers sandwiches/meals with more components, so imagine having a food allergy and getting something you cannot eat and you've already paid for it. Tandem bagel is a decent stop. Clean with friendly and helpful employees it has a decent amount of space to spread out and enjoy your meal. The bagels are good. Great selection of flavors. My only complaint is the bagels aren't chewy enough. I like a good New York style bagel. Chewy with great flavor that stands up to a nice portion of cream cheese, smoked salmon or anything else you choose to put on it. Tandem is a softer bagel. Almost bread like. Really yummy bagels and great variety--I love that they switch up their specialty flavors to keep the menu fresh. Minus one star because of the price--$1.89 for a bagel is a steal, but then you realize it's also $1.89 for cream cheese ($2.19 for speciality cream cheese) and it doesn't feel as good. However, I've got a coworker who works at one of their locations on the weekends as a side gig, and sometimes she brings leftover bagels to work. While the bagels and topping are very good, the service sucks. Many times, I have gone into the Hadley, Mass store and there is a long line at the counter. They have 3 cash registers but only one staff person taking orders. In fact, I have never seen more than one person taking orders. This one person also answers the phone. This is a nice roomy spot for breakfast or lunch. There is a tremendous number of flavors , but no rainbow bagels which are my granddaughters favorite so we were disappointed. We ate at their outdoor seating area, which had me feeling like I was in paradise on a sunny Sunday morning. There was a smoothie thief on the loose who had stolen our smoothie. A very spacious cafe serving tasty food and great drinks. They have a wide variety of bagels. They are only open until 2PM but serve lunch sandwiches. I was really surprised to see pizza bagels on the menu. My wife and I had pizza bagels. The bbq chicken pizza bagel was really good. The bbq sauce was impressive. I had a chocolate PB smoothie which was also really good. The food was ready very quickly as as the drinks. The person who took the order was very kind. Not only was I annoyed I had to come up with a different order since for some odd reason you've discontinued the bagel pizzas (idk maybe just this location?) despite Fact you seemed to have all of the ingredients available but I also am completely turned off from future visits due to very poor food practices. I ordered a sandwich & salad that consisted of almost all of the ingredients needed for pizza so I know they're there‍ I guess the thing that bothered me most besides that I ordered a 1/2 dozen bagels and cream cheese that I intended to bring back to office that was just ignored is the ridiculous amount of flies getting dibs on food I orders I just happened to end up on phone with my coworker before going back in to get missing bagels who had spends more time in that vicinity than I, who informed me how he doesn't eat from there anymore. His reason being an incident this past summer in which he was disgusted after watching flies landing on ALL the bagels they keep out in the open. He told me that when he privately/politely spoke to an employee that employee informed him that when he started working there that he claimed he had Also brought it up to managers and higher-ups only to be ignored while apologizing to my friend. Basically, my friend appreciated my thought but was afraid to eat bagels that flies get to eat/access to. Sounds Highly likely owners know of this.
