Ordered this evening via Grub Hub. Food arrived hot and well packaged. Everything was so delicious, full of flavor, and cooked very well. I might say this is some of the best Indian food I've had in a very long time. Let's just go down the line: 1) Garlic Naan -- tasty and had a nice char in certain areas. Not as soft and buttery (which I was expecting) compared to other naans but it was still very good. Will order again. 2) Fisk Pakora - fresh and fried very well. Coating was still crisp in some areas and fish was flaky and tender. Pairs well with the chutneys. 3) Saag paneer - creamy paneer, delicious fresh spinach with yummy spices. I really enjoyed that. 4) Pickle Stand (assortment of chutneys) - tasted fresh and homemade. Sooooo delicious -- had tamarind, lime, mint, and another sauce I can't identify at the moment. But yummy! 5) Lamb Kahrahi - this was my first time having this dish ever. Omg! The smokiness of the lamb which I guess is from the tandoor plus the sauce with tomatoes, garlic and ginger -- which you could taste -- was soooooo good!! Ima hafta add that to my rotation. The lamb was tender too. All around excellent dish. 6) half order of basmati rice. Just the right amount and a delicious base for the saag and lamb. The portions were great too. Looking for a place to eat in the Playa del Rey area of Los Angeles. And found this Indian restaurant. Looked a little run down from the outside, inside was slightly better. Dining area was fairly small, not sure if they had another Dining area elsewhere. Appeared to be clean. Our waiter didn't talk much, didn't look nice, but did checked on us for refills. Food itself was good and tasty, portion size was a little underwhelming for the price we paid. Our garlic naan was not very garlicky & was more than just slightly charred. Really not happy to give a favorite 2 stars but something has changed , I order frequently and the last 2 orders have been bad, the portions Nelly the protein in the biryani and korma have shrunk to what feels like half. The consistent food is no longer, sometimes the korma is off , sometimes the rice in the biryani is broken or mushy. It was never like this before just great consistent big Healy portions made them the best Indian around. I hope this gets the attention of management - my guess is they lost a chef or main cook and this is the result. Please fix it ! read more

My first time ordering from Tandoor-A-India and I was not impressed. The Chicken Tikka Masala was decent and a nice portion, however the Garlic Naan was horrible. Thin and hard on the edges. Wow, just wow. This place is a hidden gem. Protect this place at all costs!! Seriously though, this is the best Indian Cuisine I have ever experienced. My girl friend is Vegetarian and I eat meat, they made all the adjustments she requested with her little picky eating self (haha) and made my tikka masala the perfect amount of spicy. Garlic Nan was nice and hot and packed with flavor, we also had the Vegetarian Biriyani and the Reita with the refreshing Mango Lassi. Man, this place was Amazing. It's a small restaurant with full sized windows so you can see the blue sky and palm trees while you eat! Manjit was our server and he was so hospitable, took great care of us and was so helpful with making adjustments, aiding us with pronunciation (haha) and making us feel right at home. 12/10 all around, come here!!! Ordered delivery and they marked it delivered before it even arrived. We had to call the restaurant to find out the issue and they said the driver should be arriving soon. I was met with rudest person ever who said our order was cancelled and didn't even bother to try and fix the situation. Just drove off. We are regulars but they lost us forever. Even tamarind chutney and mint chutney caught my attention. These condiments are something that I'm usually indifferent about. I'm glad that the food was worth the price because according to Hubby, he felt that this place is pricier than other Indian restaurants we've been to. The service was good and helpful. They let me know that their naan contains milk. They also let me know that they could make the baingan bharta without dairy. I didn't realize that this dish could contain dairy so I'm glad they told me. The dining room is small and though we were seated right away on a Saturday evening after 8pm, the tables around us were constantly busy with new parties. I really wanted to like this place, as we have been passing by it for several years, and finally decided to try it. As soon as we entered the tiny dining room, it was like stepping into a tropical rainforest. It was so hot and humid, with only a single ceiling fan running and no air conditioning. Plus most of the tables were occupied, generating more body heat. And honey: Speaking as a menopausal woman, this is a damn deal breaker!! It was simply too warm to enjoy my food and we had to end up asking for to-go boxes and packing up our meal to eat at home. After 10 minutes the sweat was running down my back and the backs of my thighs were sticking to the wooden chair. Boyfriend agreed that it wasn't just me and it was indeed warm in there on this 83-degree day. The service was fast and friendly enough, and the food was actually good but we just couldn't enjoy it there. We ordered the assorted appetizers which included samosas, fish, chicken and vegetables served with lemon and onions. Also ordered the Garlic Naan, the Lamb Vindaloo and the Shrimp Saag. All were tasty and generous portions, so no complaints about the food here; just the ambiance. I decided to finally try Indian food after seeing all the hype on Tiktok! I have to say I was impressed. I decided I wanted to order the Butter chicken and the Chicken Tikka Masala. After ordering both the chef came out and said they both tasted very similar so he wouldn't recommend ordering both. That was a little disappointing BUT he recommended the Chicken Korma. I'm so glad he did. That was delicious! I had the chicken Korma and butter chicken. The chicken korma was definitely my favorite. Chicken Korma 10/10 I also ordered the vegetable samosas and they were sooo good! Recommend these 10/10. The only complaint I have is that they were cold on the inside. Even cold they tasted great. For starters, we got papadum and samosas with the complimentary tamarind and mint chutneys. Very delicious and excellent quality. For the main course, we got garlic naan, pea pilaf rice, lamb vindaloo, chicken tikka masala, and Chana masala. They were delicious and very filling. Overall, we had a wonderful experience. The service was courteous, but despite my husband mentioning three times that there must not be cilantro in the food, to please put some on the side, the aloo gobi and naan were thoroughly covered and infused with cilantro. There was none on the side, only in the food and on one of the only dishes, which was one of the only ones I could have eat because I don't eat chicken and don't like paneer much. The pakora was soggy. The food had no spice at all today and was very salty. I guess they must cater to a different demographic now. I'm so sad. We always liked this restaurant. My first time trying here. Usually I go to Tumbi in Santa Monica in which is excellent EVERY time! Just had take out , sent my mate in to grab the "goods" . Apparently the customer service was as unsavory as the food. They basically gave us buffet Indian cuisine for $70 . Maybe they didn't think we'd notice but Indian food is our thing. A couple years ago and this review would have been a 5/5. I'm not sure what changed, but the flavor has gone down despite the color being more prominent. I'm confused? Not bad, but not good either. Obviously the buffet still not back from pre-Covid, but wasn't disappointed in that. I was disappointed in the now subtle flavors - when that's not why I go to eat Indian food. I don't know why I've taken so long to review this restaurant. I come here multiple times a week. Their food is amazing. It's consistent, it's delicious, it never disappoints. There are many decent Indian restaurants on the Westside; Tandor-A-India is one of them. The dining room was about drafty and unpleasant, explaining why most of the orders were for takeout. The plain naan was a standout- freshly baked, with only a hint of ghee. Curries were good and CTM on par with others. Kulfi was good. Note on parking: do not take the steep driveway next to the restaurant wince you will likely have to back out with minimal clearance onto a busy highway. [Review #458] 2019 Yelp 100 Challenge (113/100) A hidden gem, literally & figuratively, of an Indian restaurant... Tandoor-A-India. If you're not careful while driving along Pershing Dr., you could miss the restaurant in the blink of an eye, which we did on our first visit. This tiny place serves a delish AYCE lunch buffet for only $10.95. There's 1/2 dozen entrées, fruit, a couple of salads & desserts, & fresh baked naan. While the options are limited, what they do serve is delicious! =) I much rather enjoy a smaller buffet that tastes great over a large buffet that's so-so. I usually get 1-1/2 plates with a couple pieces of naan & polish off a bowl of kheer for dessert. While the options are limited, the entrees do rotate every now & then. I like their samosas, but the pastry is a bit doughy, I prefer it to be thinner. 2 of my absolutely fav entrées are ALOO GOBI (cauliflower & potatoes) & CHICKEN MAHKANI (butter chicken)...I like adding extra sauce/liquid from the butter chicken over rice for added flavor. I think the crisp is called PAPADUM that's sprinkled with cumin; this crisp is quite aromatic -- slightly peppery & earthy. The TANDOORI CHICKEN is a common Indian dish in buffets, so it's no surprise seeing it here in the chafers, but it can sometimes be dry. :-| I usually arrive later for lunch so chafers are 1/2 or nearly empty since I miss the lunch rush so "freshness" factor is down a notch, maybe that's why some of the proteins are on the dry side. Obviously, if you arrive right when they open, all dishes are just out of the kitchen. The servers are usually pretty good about removing extra plates & refreshing your drinks. The dining room is a bit tight, & is best for groups no more than 4. If you have a larger size (6+) group, I'm not sure if it's possible to reconfigure the tables. Private parking is available behind the restaurant, enough for 3 cars, & there's plenty of free street parking. I am not sure what happen to this Indian Restaurant . They went downhill. I asked for the shrimp biryani rice with no raisins and nuts. They reassured me that the rice had no raisin or nuts. Guess what, there was raisins and nuts in the rice. I ordered shrimp Marsala and it was red. They put some type of coloring that cause my fingers to turn red. I am use to it being orange. Raid roach killer spray was next to food. I saw a worker sweeping in the kitchen and throw away the trashed next to ordered food. I will never come here again. Go-to spot for Indian food near LAX. We've only recently tried this place for the first time and have ordered multiple times in the past few months since. We only recently dined in after months of only doing take out. The space is small inside but the food is definitely better fresh than waiting until you get home.
