What a hidden gem! Dosa Hut looks very unassuming from the outside, but the food is amazing. The inside is not exactly cozy, but it's comfortable enough. To eat, the three of us split two mains and an appetizer. It was plenty of food for the three of us and we even had leftovers. To start, we ordered the rava idly, semolina and lentil patties. The patties themselves didn't have a ton of flavor but they were perfect for soaking up the two dipping sauces it came with, one a creamy coconut and one more of a spicy, curry-type sauce. Both of the sauces were delicious and flavorful. For mains, we ordered the chole bhatura, a chickpea curry with a puffy fried bread (maybe poori?), and paneer pondicherry dosa, a kind of dosa wrap with spicy potato and paneer). They were both delicious but I think the dosa was my favorite. The crispy dosa with the rich filling just worked so well. I don't know if I'll ever be in the area again but if I am I would love to come back! read more

This is my third time coming to dosa hut ! I've had pretty good experiences so far the staff is always nice and friendly . Our waitress was fabulous she answered all my questions . It's an all vegetarian restaurant and can make most ( if not all ) dishes vegan as well ! The restaurant is cozy and don't have a lot of tables . But we had no issues getting a seat on Sunday evening around 4:30 or 5 :) The food has always been fabulous , cooked perfectly . I ordered the Chana bhatura which is my favourite , chickpea curry with fried bread ( bhatura ) I like to order a side of Raita ( like yogurt) which can reduce the spice level ( if you don't like spicy food ) I also always order the chaat as well . This time I got the papri chaat which was delicious highly recommend Overall 4/5 ! 5/5 for food and service , just wish they had more space/ tables for busy /prime hours P.S the food is always so good I forget to take pictures every time ... this time is also no exception ! read more

We went to Dosa Hut with a couple friends and had a great experience! The dosas are enormous I would guess at least 2 feet! I got the masala dosa which was a great value. It's pretty basic with potato and peas in the middle of a delicious crispy dosa.The dipping sauces they provide were very tasty. I also got a tangy and delicious mango lassi as well as papri chaat which was very good. Service is very attentive. Be sure to come at a slower time because seating is limited and fills up fast! read more

To be honest - I was fairly unsure about the quality of food when our colleague proposed this place. I didn't look up ratings nor popular dishes since the colleague who is local to Hartford was going to place the order since he is a regular. This is not a fine dining place, seating is fairly basic. Had enough servers and they were attentive & had a pleasing demeanor. For starters, we ordered Podi Idly, Cutlet and Aloo Tikki. All of them were very nice. We also ordered Madras Coffee which was also nice - liked the traditional way in which they served it!! For main course, we ordered Masala Dosa, Gun Powder Masala Dosa and Gun Powder Uthappam. The Masala Dosa was disappointing, the potato was a paste. While the potato filling was quite a bit, it didn't scale in terms of taste. Their chutney portion sizes are less, could serve for the table in a larger bowl. The Sambhar was off, it is a fundamental dish you would expect at a South Indian place to hit the mark. My colleagues also had Lassi and we ended the meal with Rasmalai. The Rasmalai was house prep and it was very good. If I happen to be back in Hartford and crave for Indian food, will definitely be back - they have interesting appetizers and Dosa items. read more

Was driving up from NY to MA, and glad we found this spot! My partner and I got a chetti pondicherry dosa, malgudi rava masala, and chikku shake - TASTE: 4/5 - both dosas hit the spot. Enjoyed the potato masala in the chetti pondicherry dosa and the cheese in the malgudi rava masala, plus the chutneys that came w both. The service was great, the vibes felt very authentic Indian and there were plenty of seatings. We observed families coming out and all enjoying dosa for dinner. This time we decided to be a bit adventurous and try things out of the traditional dosa and it didn't live up to the flavors. The pakoras were great and the salt lassi was refreshing. The bullet dosa, I believe was okay, wasn't as exciting to eat and the condiments on the side were bland and bitter. The uttapam was tasty in its own and so was the potato mashed bhaji. The other thing is the dishes come out piping hot one at a time and we had to wait a few minutes for it to cool down. Tried DosaHut's new East Hartford branch after hearing about its recent launch -- and honestly, it was a total disaster. Safe to say, this will very likely be our first and last visit. What we ordered: Mysore Masala Dosa, Pav Bhaji, and Sambar Vada. Food Quality & Portions: The Mysore Masala Dosa was barely passable -- bland, uninspired, and definitely worse than something we could make at home. The sambar and chutney were served in laughably tiny portions -- the smallest I've ever seen at any Indian restaurant, and that's saying something. Now for the Sambar Vada -- it was an outright disaster. Overloaded with salt and clearly made from frozen vadas. Reheating frozen food already intensifies salt levels, and dunking that into already-salty sambar made it borderline inedible. When we politely asked if it could be replaced, the chef's dismissive response was, "That's how it's made here." Translation: eat it or get out. Rude and unprofessional. With that attitude, it's hard to imagine this place staying open for long. Pav Bhaji was the only halfway decent thing we had -- but not enough to redeem the experience. Ambience: The space is cramped and chaotic. Despite a clearly posted capacity limit of 47, they were well over it. Tables were grimy, and we were told to sit at a soaking wet table -- only after asking did someone reluctantly come to wipe it down. Not the kind of environment where you want to eat. Service: What service? The staff seemed completely sidelined, operating like they had no voice of their own -- just carrying out orders from the chef with zero regard for the customer. Chef's Attitude: Hands down, the worst part of the experience. The chef seemed more concerned with churning out quantity than with serving anything remotely enjoyable. When a kitchen can't take basic feedback and responds with arrogance, it's a huge red flag. read more

I'm a big fan of this little Indian Restaurant specializing in both Southern and Northern Indian dishes. As the name conveys, there are numerous types of Dosa's on the menu; Indian Chat served cold, a variety of hot appetizers as well as $10:95 luncheon specials and a bevy of main dish. My Mulligatawny Soup was quite different than I've had in the past, it was solid and full of flavor; my wife's sambar was likewise an excellent choice with a nice spice note. So I tried this place with the family as a second chance. My first time was just after they opened and it was a mess - no ac, food took forever and while the food was decent, it did not bring us back anytime soon. The second chance, three years later, showed things have changed/this is a place you should definitely check out. We popped in on a weeknight and it was fairly busy. Even so the food came out super quick and was very tasty. We got the samosa as a starter to buy time for the kids as they were hungry. They came out fresh and well fried. The filling was very tasty and the two chutneys were big hits for both us and the kids. The cilantro/mint chutney had a good blend of flavor and spice but is a bit lower on the spice scale compared to many other places I've been so your take may vary depending on how spicy you like things. Go our meals the kids split a masala dosa, I got a sada dosa and the wife got a gunpowder dosa. The masala was very tasty and made well. All of the dosas were cooked perfectly and the sambar and chutneys with them were great accompaniments. I will note the gunpowder dosa was not spicy at all to my or the wife's taste so if you like spice, try the other option or ask them to step it up. Overall the service was great too tonight and the only real knock on the place may be the ambiance if you're used to nicer restaurants. This place reminds me of most of the dosa shops I've been to in the US for decor and that is not what is going to bring you back... it's the great food. Oh and I should note, the entire meal cost just $44 with tip included. We did just drink water so no drinks on the bill but even so, a very inexpensive restaurant meal for the family. read more

We have visited here twice, we aren't locals but we were passing by the first time and came across this place, and WHAT A HiT! Since we live in Jersey, we have been raving to come back to this place for 1 dish and 1 dish only. Their MUST TRY THEIR MALGUDI DOSA (I prefer the cheese - but it's ofc available without) . Aside from this dosa, we have tried their mango lassi and chikko shake which were good as well. We recently visited them after a 2 years gap. But the taste is as amazing and delicious. Delicious South Indian food served fresh and hot! We came here for our first time over the weekend and ordered a mini tiffin, idli, rava dosa and one of the chaats. And everything tasted delicious. We went Sunday night for a late dinner. It was packed with a lot of customers. The food was good but definitely not as same as how it was before! We got a set of vada (7/10) (not pictured) it was not as tasty as I remember it to be. We also got the butter masala dosa (10/10) which was really good! It definitely satisfied my cravings. My husband got the Onion chili rava dosa (9/10). We also got the mango lassi (6/10), it was really warm and too much food color added. I wish it was more natural and more colder. The staff is always really polite and quick to assist with any needs the customers have. I am giving a 4 star due to the taste of the food! We love visiting dosa hut for a good masala dosa. This place reminds us of home (India) with its simple decor and authentic food. It was our second visit this year, and a special one as it was the Dussehra festival today. Mango lassi came early; it was thin in consistency, and we gulped it down quickly despite deciding on keeping some to drink with food. The dosas took time to come, but it was absolutely worth the wait. Significant portions, fresh and crispy, and possibly made using ghee, both the dosa's were delicious. The sambar was mild and flavourful, and both the chutneys were terrific especially the red tangy one. Even though we came in pretty late, we were served very well and offered extra sambar and chutney (not common in other South Indian restaurants here) just before the kitchen closed. There will be more visits here, of that I am sure. read more

My experience here was not great. I got mulligatawny soup and a side of spring rolls. The rolls were plenty good, served with a dipping cup of ketchup which I only found a little odd. The soup was not worth it. I did enjoy the broth, could really taste the spices and ghee. But the vegetables were terrible, frozen from a bag. Then, the drink I had also ordered never arrived. My date and I weren't even there during a high traffic time of day. I just decided the whole thing wasn't worth the hassle, paid, then left. Finally a good Local Indian restaurant! Let me start off by saying I love Indian food, but my experiences with Indian Restaurants have been pretty hit or miss. I'm learning that I prefer vegetarian/vegan Indian food over meat laden dishes. So, I had very high expectations for this place! I was a bit worried because nothing has lasted in this location - but my fears were for naught because this place was great! I ordered my food online through their website. I was told my order would be ready in 25 minutes. I arrived a few minutes early and they had my food out exactly on time. I barely sat down I was up and out of there. They didn't have mango chutney that I ordered (please stock up next time because there will be a next time!) so they gave me a Mango Lassi instead for free. They mentioned giving me tamarind chutney instead but that didn't happen. I am overlooking that because ... the food is so good!! I ordered palak paneer, Channa masala, and an order of samosa and an order of paratha. I honestly don't know if I got the paratha. The meal came with 2 roti and I got 4 that looked and tasted the same to me. I have never had either before so for all I know they were subtlety different. The paneer was sooo creamy and the cheese was perfect texture. I could eat that every day. Just a very sight hint of spice but nothing to rush to water for. The Channa masala was very flavorful and filling. I like the small chunks of tomato in there as well. Not spicy at all so if you want it spicy you will need to request that. The samosas were my favorite ever. They were HUGE and you get two in one order. Perfect blend of potato and vegetables in a wonderfully flakey crust. Though I could dock a star for the lack of chutney, they compensated nicely with the mango lassi (very tasty too) and the host was so super friendly and courteous it makes up for it all. I first noticed Dosa Hut under construction when I visited a nearby bakery. Dosa Hut offers various vegetarian items such as hot and cold appetizers, salads, soups, rice dishes, vegetable curries and Indian breads. However, my review focuses on the Dosa side of the Hut. I'm a Dosa amateur, but I did a LITTLE internet research. Dosas are thin savory crepes often made with a fermented rice and lentil batter and they're most associated with Southern Indian cuisine. At Dosa Hut, they're available with various dosa styles, fillings and sauces. Indian restaurants often serve something similar (thin crepes with a potato-based filling) to the table as part of an Indian Buffet, but Dosa Hut serves a souped up version of that, and it offers many more options. Via Door Dash, we ordered the Butter Masala Dosa and the Spinach Masala Dosa. The Dosas themselves have a mild flavor, and a cool, thin foldable texture. The Butter Masala Dosa had an attractive multi-tan-hued sheen. The first part of the descriptions on the Dosa portion of the Dosa Hut menu seems to refer to the nature of the Dosa itself. In this regard, the Butter Masala Dosa was cooked in butter and the Spinach Masala Dosa incorporated a thin layer of Spinach into the Dosa. The next part of the menu description is the filling served with the Dosa. Our Dosas both came with a separate container of potato masala filling that we added to the folded Dosas at home. I don't know, but I assume, Dosa Hut intended this separation to maintain the texture of the Dosa during the delivery process and that Dosa Hut adds the potato filling to the Dosa when you dine in. The potato masala filling is sort of like the mashed/puréed type filling you might find in a vegetable samosa. It included herbs, seasoning and chopped red onions. It was good, but could have used a bit more salt. Other menu filling options included cheese, onions, garlic and "rava uppuma stuffing". The Dosas were served with two sauces. I believe one was a smooth coconut chutney and one was a smooth orange/red chutney. I thought the sauces were good, but not great. The Dosas were also served with a flavorful lentil and vegetable soup/stew that I believe is called "sambar". It was an unbilled extra. It was decent, but I wouldn't intentionally order it. The Dosas were a great delivery system for the various Indian flavors in the chutneys and potato masala. The Dosas themselves, with their thin, crispy, but foldable texture, were the highlight for me. There are people more qualified to judge the filling and sauces, but recalling my favorite Indian dishes from meals past, I thought the sauces and filling were good, but not great. In any event, my wife and I had fun eating in this style, and I'd definitely consider ordering from Dosa Hut again. If you enjoy savory crepes and Indian flavors, try them. Pro Tip - My research indicates that Dosas are generally Gluten Free, but you should confirm. read more

Highly recommend this place! It's a vegetarian vegan South Indian restaurant. Service and food were excellent. Very close to highways, so it's easy to find. It's in a strip mall so there's plenty of parking in front of the place. It's quiet and clean inside, bathroom was also clean. The masala dosa was really great. All the food was freshly made. The server, Navin, recommended the Malgudi rava masala dosa with cheese! Wow, it was amazing! So crunchy! The dosas and idli are served with coconut chutney, onion and tomato chutney, and sambar. Dosa hut is located in a part of Rocky Hill with a wide variety of restaurant options, but it stands out for its broad menu and delicious flavors featuring a part of India most people might not be familiar with. The restaurant has a fully vegetarian menu and each item is prepared with care. Our service was very quick and everything was delicious with large portion sizes. The rasam soup is deliciously spicy and a great start to the meal. You can ask for smaller bowls to split the large soup amongst your group. I also recommend the mini tiffin (not pictured), which includes one piece of idly and vada each, as well as your choice of dosa or uttapam, and your choice of filter coffee or tea. The coffee is delicious. We visited in a Tuesday evening and the restaurant was busy, but we were seated promptly and our order was taken soon after we were seated. We've visited the Dosa Hut a few times now and have mixed experiences. First of all it's almost always hot inside. They have ac but i don't know if they don't want to run it or the fact the kitchen is practically right in the dining room. It's extra hot since nearly all their food is spicy hot too! Our last experience i asked for my dosa to be made mild snd the server said it could not be done but the could do medium. So I ordered it medium and it was still burning my taste buds off! And before you make assumptions about me, i understand that southern Indian food is spicy hot and I have a good spice tolerance. So i wonder if she just made the dosa regular hot because she seemed bothered that we were there. Maybe it was the heat of the restaurant. Other servers seemed nice but when we asked about the spicy dosa she snubbed us snd regularly walked past us without helping us. When we finally got someone's help they didn't do anything to make the order right. Ended up having to order another meal and it wasn't worth the expense! I gave three stars because the samosa chaat was delicious snd the paneer pakora was just ok too, it was soft snd mushy instead of crispy like usual.
