Tandoori Express on Oakhurst is a frustrating case of good food overshadowed by exceptionally poor service. I visited with my wife and our 8-month-old son, and after finally settling in--roughly 15 minutes after being seated--we were asked to change tables because the staff wanted to combine tables for a larger party expected to arrive later. In years of dining around the world, I have never been asked to change tables, let alone with an infant. While the dishes themselves were flavorful and well-executed, the service left much to be desired. There were only two servers attempting to manage the entire restaurant, and it showed. The slow pace, lack of attentiveness, and overall disorganization created a very stressful dining environment. It was clear that the restaurant remains busy simply because it's the only Indian option in the area, not because the experience is well-managed. Unfortunately, good food cannot outweigh an experience that is this uncomfortable. Based on the service we received, I cannot recommend Tandoori Express and will not be returning. read more

I had high hopes reading the reviews. But Oh boy wasn't it disappointing. First of all the Gulab Jamuns were rotten. Had that sour smell & rotten taste. We had to spit it out. You can see the image (dark hard center). There were literally no differences between the goat curry & lamb Korma. Again both were very average and both authentic. May be it's their own version but the curries looked and tasted exactly the same. The bread pakoras were really good though. Masala Papad were ehh nothing special. Overall it is a clean nice place with not so good food. read more

He was very short with me. (2 of 5) My order: Lamb biryani is a classic South Asian dish featuring tender pieces of lamb layered with fragrant basmati rice, aromatic spices, and caramelized onions. It's a culinary masterpiece that combines rich flavors and textures into one satisfying meal. Unfortunately, the lamb, though tasty, was cold, tough and chewy. The rice was dry and lacked taste and I couldn't find any caramelized onions in my rice, just pieces of onion. (3 of 5) I grabbed a Mango Lassi to-go. Mango lassi is a popular Indian yogurt-based drink made with yogurt, mangoes, and sugar. It is known for its creamy texture and sweet, tropical mango flavor. Visiting Yosemite for a couple days and staying nearby. This was fantastic and inexpensive Indian food with great flavor (really hit the spot after a long drive!). The service was also very attentive and friendly. We will absolutely come back next trip. read more

We got into Oakhurst a bit later in the evening and were looking for a quick place to go and grab dinner and Tandoori Express was conveniently just down the street. Located in a mini strip mall in the back, we were able to find parking easily and there were only a couple of other tables outside of us while we dined in. We ordered a chicken tigga app, a butter paneer, and a lamb saag along with some garlic naan. You can a generous portion of rice with your main dishes. Everything we had was flavorful and had a nice blend of spices in it to bring you an authentic curry flavor. I think the chicken tigga was slighly on the salty side but nothing major. I had asked for a chai tea at the beginning of the meal and the guy said he thought they were out but would check. After going into the back, he said they would be able to make this for me so I ordered it. However, they never brought out the drink and outside of dropping off the food once it was ready, they didn't come back and check in on us during our meal so I couldn't let them know I didn't receive the drink until the end. Since we were already done with our meal, I just asked them to remove the drink from our bill, which they did, but there wasn't even any apology for not brining out the item which I thought was a bit odd. read more

Not bad for a random Indian place in Oakhurst! Came after a day in Yosemite so I was ravenous, and the portions were pretty decent! I got a vegetarian curry (comes with rice), chicken tikka app, and rosemary naan. I couldn't finish it all, but it made for a lovely breakfast the next morning (reheats well). The staff were friendly and helpful. The vibe inside is mid-scale, but they have outdoor bathrooms (reasonably clean) and Indian music videos playing on loop on the TVs. It's conveniently located right off the Main Street, so easy to find. Wouldn't seek it out, but if you're staying in oakhurst it'll do just fine if you want Indian food :) read more

Absolutely the worst service you can get at any restaurant let alone Indian Restaurant.. This restaurant is in business only because its the only Indian Restaurant in Oakhurst. When we went twice now, at the small entrance restaurant has, there was utter chaos. Guy on front desk was on phone. Everyone were just making crowd worse inside and outside and when I asked is there any process here. The owner and the cook maybe his name is Vansh came out completely arrogant saying oh dont take anyone names and dont write down anyones names and telling everyone just gets a togo if they want. Then he tells us and I quote "if we have to sit people, then we have to also serve them food" Seriously ? u open a restaurant and dont know how to create waitlist and once seated serve them food. We took togo and food was absolutely mediocre... My recommendation go have round table pizza instead of this oversized egomaniac's mediocre Indian food. read more

I love my shrimp butter masala, it's rich and creamy, a perfect balance of sweet, sour, and spiciness. This dish would be perfect if fresh shrimp were used instead of frozen ones, but given the location and price, there's not much to complain. Mango lassi is also my go-to drink, so creamy and silky. This review is long overdue. I am not sure why but before eating at Tandoori Express I had never had Indian food. Anyway, a few months ago my wife and I were invited here for a friends birthday. And we are so glad we did. The flavor of the dishes are amazing. The Lamb dishes are delicious and the meat is so soft, the Mango Chicken or Mango Shrimp are incredibly flavored. This is a hidden gem here in the mountains. We have had so many dishes over the past months. The desserts, the drinks, the Chicken 65. I have not odered anything yet that either my wife or I have not liked. Lastly, the owners are Omi and his wife Vanshu. They are wonderful, down to earth and very hospitable. If you have never tried Indian food and are looking for something new I highly recommend you try this place, you will not be dissapointed. read more

We were excited to see the crowd, and after a 20-minute wait, we finally got the table. We ordered a full chicken tandoori, which turned out to be a disappointingly small fried chicken. The chicken tikka masala was excessively sweet, the mutton Rogan was salty and bland, and the garlic naan came without any garlic or butter--it was also the tiniest naan I've ever encountered in a restaurant. Was looking for a good lunch spot before heading into the park. Did a search and I was psyched when this place popped up. It's located right on the main drag with parking out front. We got there right after they opened, so we were the only diners there - - not sure if they get a big lunch crowd. Service was friendly and pleasant. The dining area had quite a few booths/tables and a tv. I didn't really care for the food. To be fair, the salad was delicious but the chutneys were watery and lacking in flavor. Cute little spot in the middle of Oakhurst near the community park area, and perfect for an Indian craving if you're on a Yosemite trip. We ordered the butter chicken which you can adjust spice level on, which was perfect for our kids and they enjoyed this dish very much. A lot of chicken chunks and plenty of sauce. We also got naan and the mango lassi which was very good. Takeout takes a while so call it in 20-30 before you need it. They already give you plenty of jeera rice included with the curry order so ordering a side of rice gives you a ton. read more
