Matsumoto Samurai's Kitchen, Oakhurst: 2025 Nov 5 (5 of 5) To say today is my lucky day is an understatement. I've been craving Hamachi for weeks, then I saw a post on face book that Matsumoto Samurai's Kitchen in Oakhurst is offering Hamachi Plate today. It's a rare opportunity and I immediately called in to reserve my order. Chef's hamachi today was excellent. The light pink colour has a natural sheen, and the texture is firm yet buttery. His preparation was perfect, allowing the fish to show off its rich and slightly sweet flavour. There is hardly any fishy aroma. I could eat this on its own but my order came with rice and Japanese omelette. The Japanese omelette was tender and slightly custardy in texture, well-seasoned, and has a sweet note. Green salad and ponzu sauce were also included in my order of Hamachi Plate. I devoured every morsel of it. That's how delicious everything was. I know that chefs Yuji and Veronique take great pride in their cooking because it shows in the food they prepare and serve. Food was so fresh and portion generous! We went late and although they had run out of some items they definitely compensated with substitutions and delicious comped matcha cookies! Owners so friendly and gracious. Ordered a poke bowl, gyoza and Mac salad which was surprisingly light and very tasty. Talk about an interesting setting for Japanese food! Wed-Fri this cute little food truck is parked right front and center in front of Fresno Flats Historical Park. Right past the high school on School Road in Oakhurst. It sports, picnic tables and outdoor seating, where after lunch you can peruse through the Historic Center and take pictures with Smoky the bear. This husband wife team are sweet and professional and knock out sushi rolls, and sashimi plates like no tomorrow. It's gonna set you back more than you thought for a food truck but you are pretty much getting the only sushi bowls in Oakhurst and it is pretty well put together. It was very tasty and fresh and the only thing I can complain about are all the little soy sauce, packets, and prepackaged stuff. It would be really nice if they had a couple bottles of soy sauce sitting out w some furikake available. I mean maybe there is a reason they don't, but it would be nice. those little package packets of soy sauce get arduous on the fifth one and messy. They were also out of tuna and shrimp, which they graciously substituted for salmon and crab, so I can't complain too much. Great food truck definitely will be going back. I mean where can you look at old historical buildings and buckboards while eating sushi with a resident cat on a picnic table! read more

Matsumoto Samurai's Kitchen is an amazing gem in Oakhurst. So glad we found them. Veronica and the Chef are wonderfully friendly and gracious hosts. Their poke bowls have become a weekly reward for us and we look forward to going and enjoying their delicious food when Thursday or Friday roll around. The poke bowls are excellent. So far we've also tried the gyozas, Tokyo fried chicken, and miso soup. All are great and worth trying. Highly recommended. They're parked at the Fresno flats historic village, thursday thru Saturday, which is equipped with picnic tables and great shaded scenery to enjoy your order on the spot. read more

The worker was very kind! My mother ordered 2 poke bowls. My mother ordered spicy tuna, scallops, crab meat and shrimp. Also avocado cucumber and edamame and all the freebies too. We had to figure out where they were located and the worker gave the address and said it would be ready in 15 minutes. We went to get it. It is the smallest cute little red truck and it's at a nice area where you can sit and enjoy it if you want to. The worker was very kind and welcoming! My poke bowl was Amazingly delicious! Wow! Loved the spicy tuna, scallops, crab meat and shrimp! Fresh avocado, cucumbers and edamame! Great rice! Tasted even better after being topped with wasabi and soy sauce! The scallops were my favorite! We split our time between the Bay Area and Bass Lake. While exploring Oakhurst, we discovered this gem. Their food truck is located at Fresno Flats, a historic landmark. My favorite food is Japanese and I have had many poke bowls in Hawaii. This truck is by far my favorite place to get poke bowls. My husband and I love all the different dishes they serve including fried chicken, gyoza, vegan options. The food is freshly prepared in the morning prior to opening. Veronica and Chef Matsumoto are very personable and even remembered our names when we come in. There are multiple picnic tables and plenty of parking in the historic setting. What a reprieve from granola bars and burgers! We were thrilled to find the food truck in such a remote area. We were just about to drive back to Fresno to get some decent Asian flair in our diet but luckily checked Yelp one last time for anything nearby. I called to make sure they were out and about and sure enough, they were at the Tru Value. The owners were very friendly and the regulars that came were locals. We had the poke bowl and the skirt steak with fried chicken. My hubs thoroughly enjoyed the poke bowl, it was very fresh. I enjoyed the fried chicken the most and saved the steak for another meal. We spent past weekend in the area visiting bass lake and Yosemite. Then, we found this food truck on yelp and decided try (since it has very good reviews). And, yes, the food was fresh and amazing, and the owners were so friendly and kind. I just wanted to comment about the location -- how you can find -- just search for Fresno Flats Historical Park. The yelp address (on both Google Map and Tesla navigation) takes you to no where. We almost gave up looking for it but ended up reading some other customer's review and went to Fresno Flats Historical Park and there, we found the food truck parked at the parking lot. I highly recommend, and we will for sure come back next time we visit! read more

I'm local... Who knew there would be such a good Sushi spot in our little ol' mountain town. They aren't new here and you need to look at their Facebook page to see where they are gonna be. They are consistently friendly and clean with great food at reasonable prices. They can sell out of items because the food is that good and they are open limited hours. Check FB for availability. This is a small food trailer that parks in different locations around oakhurst ca. They mostly park by Steve's pet store parking lot, or true value hardware. I've eaten here a few times and it's always pretty good. The chef is pretty cool dude from japan. I always get tri tip steak and rice plate with coleslaw. Today I was with the wife and kids we got pot stickers, couple meat rice plates, fried chicken and miso soup. The food overall was good the fried chicken was a little dark and a hair under cooked. I honestly like to mix my steak rice and coleslaw together and slather his house siracha on it. It's probably my favorite place to eat in oakhurst. They also do sushi rolls and poke bowls. Funny when they saw us they said oh more Mariposa people, we live 30min away so that speaks volumes about the food in our town. Good job guys! read more

Anytime I need a delicious lunch to brighten my day I stop by Matsumoto's food truck. I love getting the deluxe samurai bowl, it is filled with all my favorite sushi treats -scallops, shrimp, tuna, and salmon. Their rice is always perfectly cooked and the avocado and edamame are the icing on the cake. Also their sauces are delicious. Plus the couple who run the truck are always so nice and friendly.
