    Nachos

We stopped by Saturday afternoon for a drink and an appetizer. Great service and very friendly! They offered to sample a beer or two and their beer is quite good!! We loved the nachos - very good with pulled pork !! Highly recommended!! Since I'm not a BBQ lover, they did the BBQ sauce on the side (though it isn't overly sweet l, more a little spicy - next time I'd leave it on). I also like the fact they have many windows and daylight without making it look sterile or uncomfortable.

Happy Hour!!! Half price appetizers called my bar after a busy holiday prep day. I thought I was going to have the loaded tater tots, but the nachos won. It turned out to be a great choice - plenty of tender pork, jalapeños, and other toppings. The restaurant has a lovely vibe. It's bright and airy, while most comps are dark and ... dark. Tangled Roots has a nice blend of bar seats and tables with a lighter color scheme without the space feeling cold and sterile. And the service was lovely, a perfect t Mia of attention and space.

While visiting back home, I decided to try out Tangled Roots with a friend on a Sunday around 4pm. It was practically empty, so we took advantage of the nice weather and grabbed a table outside. We were greeted right away by our amazing server and were given time to look over the menu which included all the classic brewery staples; pretzels, wings, tacos, burgers, etc. Since they feature locally-brewed craft beer, they had an array of beer options as well. Since I wasn't super hungry, I went with the Brewpub Nachos, while my friend ordered the Drunken Wings with Brewmaster BBQ Sauce. The nachos were pretty good. They were topped with braised pork shoulder, Brewmaster BBQ sauce, veggies, and crispy fried onions. The wings were decent but could've used a bit more sauce. Overall, I'd definitely return again. I loved the seamless indoor/outdoor view. The atmosphere was laid-back and the drinks were great. Definitely stop by if you're in the area.

Perfect way to enjoy lunch on the patio! Around 12:30 on a Monday, I had my pick of seats. The server was very attentive service moved quickly. The TR Burger was good; the patty was perfectly cooked and the toppings were a flavorful combination. I would ask for easy onions and extra pickles next time around. I appreciated the option to substitute a GF bun (for $2) however the lower half disintegrated as soon as I picked it up, likely from the juiciness of the burger. That made it hard and messy to eat. The fries were crispy but under salted. Overall, this was a really nice, leisurely place to enjoy lunch and read my book. I'd be happy to go back and try some other offerings.

We went here on a Saturday around 6:30. The place was a little over half full. The inside has a modern look that's more casual than fancy. We went here as 2 couples. Our friends had been here before. We were seated immediately. The server offered up some free sample beers. 3 of us said yes! Then we later bought a glass. Very interesting beer selection. The menu lists interesting flavors. It almost doesn't seem like you will be drinking a beer. Regardless, all 3 of us loved our beer choices. We ordered rather quickly. The women ordered the flat breads. Small mixup on one of them but they quickly corrected. My buddy had tacos. I tried the Parmesan Cod. Wow, the cod was "delicious". I hate saying that word out loud but it's fitting for the moment. The crispiness of the crust yet the fish was flaky and perfect on the inside. Portion size was fair for the price. The cod is one of most expensive items on the menu. Well worth it! We skipped appetizers and desserts. I think we were in and out in less than an hour. I really enjoyed this place. We were expecting it to be much more crowded. Next time, I'll try another beer and maybe the tacos.

This has quickly become a family favorite for dinner! The kids menu is perfect for our family (buttered noodles, grilled cheese and chicken tenders are my kids favorites). The adults also love it here because the craft beer is delicious (my favorite is the strawberry rhubarb beer) and the food is amazing! We have been here several times and always have great service and a delicious meal! My kids also like playing in the little play area next to the restaurant after we eat, so it brings along some entertainment if we are trying to waste some time before bed.

I checked out Tangled Roots with a group of 3 for a weekday dinner. This is an upscale yet casual spot which I enjoyed! My group was seated within minutes and shortly after that a staff member came by to take drink orders. This was my first time here and thankfully I was able to sample a few of their craft draft beers. I sampled their blueberry beer and a blonde ale. The blueberry beer was too hoppy for me so I went with the 16 oz blonde citrus ale. It was crisp, bold-ish and easy to drink. I would order this again in the future. At 1 point a staff member upped the music volume making it difficult to have/hear conversation with my friends. It felt like I was having to 'scream' over the music which was a bummer. As far as food I tried the TR burger cooked medium. I LOVED IT! The bun was buttered and toasted perfectly and the patty literally melts in your mouth. It was extremely juicy and flavorful. I don't normally eat an entire burger but this bad boy didn't stand a chance. I devoured the entire thing and did not have left overs. Whenever I see tater tots offered as a side I take advantage of that, TR has em!! They were REAL good too. I also tried my friend's tomato bisque soup that came with her grilled cheese pulled pork and thought that was creamy and flavorful. Probably 1 of the better tomato bisques soups I've had. The grilled cheese pulled pork somewhat fell short for me. It was on the drier side. I think adding the drippings of the pulled pork as a side would have made this a 5 star entree for me. Tip - there is a 3% service charge if using credit card. To avoid this charge make sure to bring cash.

Tangled Roots in Vernon Hills offers the right mix of beers, bites, and cocktails all within a well designed space. Located in the Mellody Farm Shopping Center, the location is prime being adjacent to so many other shops and dining spots. The inside wasn't overly large but I loved the overall design, open kitchen, central bar, and seating to accommodate small and large parties. It appeared they also have a very nice patio for summertime! Tangled Roots is known for their beers that are produced in Ottawa, IL. I love seeing their kitchen and taproom locations expand throughout Chicagoland! I visited on a Wednesday evening with a group of 3. It seemed that the beer selections were either a hit or a miss in taste. I ordered the Honest Abe (their take on an Old Fashioned); it was good and more on the sweet side than spirit forward. For entrees, I got the BBQ Brewmaster Burger which I thoroughly enjoyed! The burger was cooked perfectly, bun was toasted and fresh, fries were good. My only not so positive notes from the evening were that 15 min into enjoying conversation, the music was noticeably turned up. It became hard to hear. Also, the entrees could benefit from a bit more sauce: aioli on burger, bbq sauce on grilled cheese, ketchup sides, etc. The menu items are priced at a bit of a premium but everything I had was a tasty treat.

Great atmosphere, playing oldies like "killing me softly" and Savage Garden songs. Foods are not greasy. Drinks are refreshing. The hummus was thicker than I'm used to but I don't dislike it, it doesn't have the toasty peppery taste like other hummus but the added thyme and nuts maybe made it more dense. Still pretty flavorful. The fish tacos seemed to be served with wheat tortilla instead of corn, which I would've preferred corn. But the wheat isn't greasy and pretty dry and light. The corn chips on the side also is not greasy and lightly seasoned, which is great. What stood out is that it's not too oily unlike other bar foods. I greatly appreciate that.

I had the ancient grain salad and it was delicious! It was a good portion size too. Our server was great.

Came here for a weekday lunch, and the service was impeccable. Our waiter was attentive and gave great recommendations. There was a special menu that my husband tried that included a soup or salad, entree, and dessert. There was an option to add a beer flight to match the courses as well. The soup was delicious and so well presented. The steak sliders were super flavorful and the truffle fries were also delicious. My steak sandwich was good, and the tots were hot and well seasoned. The beer flight paired perfectly with his courses. The dessert wasn't great, but still nice to end his meal with something sweet. We will be back!

Oh what tangled roots we weave. When I think of tangled roots I think of snarled hair and knots but thankfully this is a restaurant with a mostly scratch kitchen and local craft beers (Farm to Foam- they grow their hops and barley right down the road from their flagship brewery in Ottawa, IL). TRCB&K opened about two months ago in the already crammed Mellody Farms center. We sat in the very pleasant outdoor area for brunch. I ordered the biscuits and gravy and my friend ordered the avocado toast. Our server Nate was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. He identified the dishes when he walked by with orders. The gravy for the biscuits was a little salty and there was salt sprinkled on the eggs. The biscuits were large and too crumbly. Good flavor in the dish but needs a lighter hand. My companion enjoyed their avocado toast. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the menu looked very promising. I would definitely return to try some other items.

The bacon jam was unique as well as the dollop of Ricotta on top. I liked the creamy texture of the ricotta on top. The other pizza that stood out was the New York Style white Pie. The staff was friendly. I got to spin the wheel for my birthday and won a free beer. The server gave me a sample of the pickled pear hard cider before committing to a whole glass. I'll try to be short, but want to give a true account of the events. Yesterday I came from the city via Metra late afternoon with another friend to visit a dear friend that moved to Cary a few years ago. Cary is far & we rarely see one another. Needless to say, we were super excited to for this mini-reunion & for our friend to show us a slice of Cary. It was not the best planning being St Paddy's weekend but so be it. We specifically looked for a place we could easily talk & catch up. We started w/ one chocolate martini at Cucina Rustica and chatted OVER an HOUR. Little did we know, we should have stayed there. Next stop, Cary RACIST Ale House. The back area lounge was nearly empty & we were assured it was open (not booked for any events). The waitress, at the start aggressively asked a bunch of questions. I first thought her line of questioning was bizarre so I ignored her while trying to figure out what to order. She asked how we got there, who was driving & specifically said she didn't feel comfortable in serving me. WTF?!?!? My friend politely answered her questions and when she left, we all agreed the waitress's behavior was odd & laughed it off. We refused to have her ruin our evening. To our SHOCK the waitress would NOT serve me?! Only me! Was I disruptive? NO! Was I being violent or doing something illegal? NO! Did I come in stumbling? NO! Was I slumped over passed out? NO! This was crazy! Check your security cameras if you don't believe! Was this a bad twilight zone episode? Was someone going to tell us this was all a joke? I was speechless. We asked her why. She said it was a management decision. What?! Interesting since no one came to talk to us aside from her. We asked her to explain, to get some understanding. You will NOT believe what she said....she said it was my eyes. I looked at my two white friends & asked if something was wrong with my eyes? No, nothing is wrong. WOW, she basically said my Asian eyes were an issue. Falsely claiming I was drunk and couldn't be served because she didn't like Asian-looking eyes?!?! I was stone cold sober ***hole! We were all completely sober & flabbergasted! Completely disgusted, we left. I thought about brushing this aside but I wouldn't want anyone else to be treated that way. I will not allow them to humiliate me. This was supposed to be a happy occasion, and it was spoiled by a bigoted, small-minded person. I don't know how these people can live with themselves.
