We also got the hummus and typically hummus isn't my thing but their was yummy with chopped olive tapenade on top. We also love the patio because it's partially covered! Very pleasantly surprised by this place! We were shopping in the area and were just looking for a sit down burger joint. I was expecting the same old-same old typical burger and beer place. Tangled Roots exceeding our expectations by a mile. I loved their recommended drafts, and the waiter kindly made recommendations. We ordered cheese curds (excellent), chicken tenders, and the TR burger. Everything was fantastic and fresh. The sauces were unique and went great with the cheese curds, fries, and chicken. During my time in Northern suburbs of Chicago I visited Tangled Roots Craft Beer & Kitchen three times at the Vernon Hill location. Each time I went there the experience & atmosphere began to turn into something I desired. The vibe is chill, service is great and their menu is actually really great. Strongly recommend the Cheese Curds and DO NOT skip out on the Spicy Dipping Sauce (it's chipotle ranch) but it's made in house and it's so good. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars was due to the amount of taps they were out of during my visits there. Hopefully on my next visit they are 100% on their taps. read more

The beer is delicious and the food is far better than I expected. I ordered a Loaded Tots app on happy hour to snack on. For $6 or $7 I got so much food I could not even finish it and it was excellent. I came back 2 days later and got the nachos. It was loaded with braised pork and deliciousness. I tried my hardest and only ate 2/3 of it. Again it was on happy hour, so it was half price. We stopped by Saturday afternoon for a drink and an appetizer. Great service and very friendly! They offered to sample a beer or two and their beer is quite good!! Just moved into town and saw this place was highly rated so made it our first place out. Did not disappoint. Place had a great vibe, they had sports (World Baseball Classic) on TV but it didn't feel like a sports bar. Food was really impressive (really recommend the cheese curds) and the beers we tried were all great. We tore into the food before remembering to take photos but we ordered the Beer can chicken salad, which was a huge portion, and the Chicken Club. Both were amazing. While visiting back home, I decided to try out Tangled Roots with a friend on a Sunday around 4pm. It was practically empty, so we took advantage of the nice weather and grabbed a table outside. We were greeted right away by our amazing server and were given time to look over the menu which included all the classic brewery staples; pretzels, wings, tacos, burgers, etc. Since they feature locally-brewed craft beer, they had an array of beer options as well. Since I wasn't super hungry, I went with the Brewpub Nachos, while my friend ordered the Drunken Wings with Brewmaster BBQ Sauce. The nachos were pretty good. They were topped with braised pork shoulder, Brewmaster BBQ sauce, veggies, and crispy fried onions. The wings were decent but could've used a bit more sauce. Overall, I'd definitely return again. Perfect way to enjoy lunch on the patio! Around 12:30 on a Monday, I had my pick of seats. The server was very attentive service moved quickly. The TR Burger was good; the patty was perfectly cooked and the toppings were a flavorful combination. I would ask for easy onions and extra pickles next time around. I appreciated the option to substitute a GF bun (for $2) however the lower half disintegrated as soon as I picked it up, likely from the juiciness of the burger. That made it hard and messy to eat. We went here on a Saturday around 6:30. The place was a little over half full. The inside has a modern look that's more casual than fancy. We went here as 2 couples. Our friends had been here before. We were seated immediately. The server offered up some free sample beers. 3 of us said yes! Then we later bought a glass. Very interesting beer selection. The menu lists interesting flavors. It almost doesn't seem like you will be drinking a beer. Regardless, all 3 of us loved our beer choices. We ordered rather quickly. The women ordered the flat breads. Small mixup on one of them but they quickly corrected. My buddy had tacos. I tried the Parmesan Cod. Wow, the cod was "delicious". I hate saying that word out loud but it's fitting for the moment. The crispiness of the crust yet the fish was flaky and perfect on the inside. Portion size was fair for the price. The cod is one of most expensive items on the menu. Well worth it! We skipped appetizers and desserts. I think we were in and out in less than an hour. I really enjoyed this place. We were expecting it to be much more crowded. The food is consistent, it comes out fast so I assume most is prepared ahead of time or frozen. Service at our latest visit was poor, it wasn't overly crowded but we had to find our server to order our entrees, refill waters and then after we requested the bill we had to wait another 15-20 minutes for our card to be run. This has quickly become a family favorite for dinner! The kids menu is perfect for our family (buttered noodles, grilled cheese and chicken tenders are my kids favorites). The adults also love it here because the craft beer is delicious (my favorite is the strawberry rhubarb beer) and the food is amazing! I checked out Tangled Roots with a group of 3 for a weekday dinner. This is an upscale yet casual spot which I enjoyed! My group was seated within minutes and shortly after that a staff member came by to take drink orders. This was my first time here and thankfully I was able to sample a few of their craft draft beers. I sampled their blueberry beer and a blonde ale. The blueberry beer was too hoppy for me so I went with the 16 oz blonde citrus ale. It was crisp, bold-ish and easy to drink. I would order this again in the future. At 1 point a staff member upped the music volume making it difficult to have/hear conversation with my friends. It felt like I was having to 'scream' over the music which was a bummer. As far as food I tried the TR burger cooked medium. I LOVED IT! The bun was buttered and toasted perfectly and the patty literally melts in your mouth. It was extremely juicy and flavorful. I don't normally eat an entire burger but this bad boy didn't stand a chance. I devoured the entire thing and did not have left overs. Whenever I see tater tots offered as a side I take advantage of that, TR has em!! They were REAL good too. I also tried my friend's tomato bisque soup that came with her grilled cheese pulled pork and thought that was creamy and flavorful. Probably 1 of the better tomato bisques soups I've had. The grilled cheese pulled pork somewhat fell short for me. It was on the drier side. I think adding the drippings of the pulled pork as a side would have made this a 5 star entree for me. Located in the Mellody Farm Shopping Center, the location is prime being adjacent to so many other shops and dining spots. The inside wasn't overly large but I loved the overall design, open kitchen, central bar, and seating to accommodate small and large parties. It appeared they also have a very nice patio for summertime! Tangled Roots is known for their beers that are produced in Ottawa, IL. I love seeing their kitchen and taproom locations expand throughout Chicagoland! I visited on a Wednesday evening with a group of 3. It seemed that the beer selections were either a hit or a miss in taste. I ordered the Honest Abe (their take on an Old Fashioned); it was good and more on the sweet side than spirit forward. For entrees, I got the BBQ Brewmaster Burger which I thoroughly enjoyed! The burger was cooked perfectly, bun was toasted and fresh, fries were good. My only not so positive notes from the evening were that 15 min into enjoying conversation, the music was noticeably turned up. It became hard to hear. The hummus was thicker than I'm used to but I don't dislike it, it doesn't have the toasty peppery taste like other hummus but the added thyme and nuts maybe made it more dense. Still pretty flavorful. The fish tacos seemed to be served with wheat tortilla instead of corn, which I would've preferred corn. But the wheat isn't greasy and pretty dry and light. There was a special menu that my husband tried that included a soup or salad, entree, and dessert. There was an option to add a beer flight to match the courses as well. The soup was delicious and so well presented. The steak sliders were super flavorful and the truffle fries were also delicious. My steak sandwich was good, and the tots were hot and well seasoned. When I think of tangled roots I think of snarled hair and knots but thankfully this is a restaurant with a mostly scratch kitchen and local craft beers (Farm to Foam- they grow their hops and barley right down the road from their flagship brewery in Ottawa, IL). TRCB&K opened about two months ago in the already crammed Mellody Farms center. We sat in the very pleasant outdoor area for brunch. I ordered the biscuits and gravy and my friend ordered the avocado toast. Our server Nate was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. He identified the dishes when he walked by with orders. The gravy for the biscuits was a little salty and there was salt sprinkled on the eggs. The biscuits were large and too crumbly. Good flavor in the dish but needs a lighter hand. They have a large selection of beers and offer a flight for 4 beers. The food unfortunately was a hit or a miss. Aunt Bee's Biscuits: it felt like these were deep fried. Dry and crumbly texture. The maple cinnamon butter's flavour was good but should bread butter be spreadable? The strawberry butter was just like frosting. Do not recommend. French Dip: Very balanced flavours and a solid sandwich. The fries could use a bit more salt, but were not bad. Tiramisu: flavours were good, but textures were not great. I made a reservation for Tangled Roots for 10 people at 7pm on a Saturday evening. The restaurant was packed when we arrived, and we unfortunately had to wait a few minutes for all of the tables we needed to become available. I say unfortunately, because there is zero space to wait when they're busy, and I felt we were in the way of other patrons, no matter how we stood. We had an 11th person show that was unexpected (Meetup group event), and the staff was kind enough to squeeze them in. We had to wait a bit for our server to greet us, but once she did, she was truly on top of things. Our orders were put in immediately, and there was never a long wait period for drinks. They did mess up one of the food orders (fish tacos instead of cauliflower), but they quickly fixed the problem. We had a member of our party conduct himself in not the more favorable manner, and our server handled herself with poise and grace. Even when I apologized on his behalf after he had left, she brushed the incident off like it was nothing, which she most definitely did not need to. I meant to take a photo of her name from the receipt, and totally forgot, as I was absolutely mortified, so if the manager reads this, whoever had our table on 11/9 did a fantastic job. 5 out of 5 stars for her. I ordered the citrus thyme hummus. It lacked flavor and kind of tasted like it had been sitting in a walk in for a few days (why my review is 4 stars, not 5). The Pinot Grigio was nice and crisp (I had to pass on beer due to a headache). I'd definitely visit again for a beer flight and to maybe try something more eventful from the menu. I highly recommend capping your group size at 6 people. They had 4 bartenders cramped in a small area. They kept running into each other. There's 2 POS terminals. Why would you run a card on a terminal on the other side of the bar when there's one near you. For being open 5-6 months, where's the decor? Everything is so bare. If you look at photos of Next Door (who Tangled replaced), they didn't change anything. Also, the bartenders seem to struggle. Sorry, there's a lot of improvement needed. I ordered the Pacos, which are tacos made out of pancakes. They were delicious, if not hard to eat. The pancakes didn't hold together very well, so I had to use my fork and knife. The filling of berries, bacon, pecans, and macroscope cheese was a perfect combination. My husband ordered the spicy chicken and waffle sandwich. The sauce was too spicy for me, but the waffle tasted great. The service wasn't great. One of our orders at the table came out wrong and had to wait 15 minutes for the right dish to come out. This Brewery is cool. The decor is modern and clean. We sat on the outdoor patio that was comfortable and in the shade. We brought our Golden Retriever and she behaved nicely on the patio. lol. I visited this location twice. Pros: plenty of seating and parking, interesting flavors in the menu, vegetarian-friendly options, variety of beers. However, I feel that the quality and price of food is not worth it. The citrus thyme hummus plate was kind of sad, especially for the price. I got the beer can chicken salad. The chicken tasted burnt/bitter, the greens were not fresh, and the pasta was hard. My friend got the pulled pork grilled cheese and really enjoyed it, so maybe it depends on what you order.
