My husband and I were brainstorming what we should have for lunch. We were going to be all over town so we had a few options. I threw out Tango's since the hair supply house is right across the street. My husband has been here a few times and this would be my first. He has his regular empanada that he normally gets. It took me a minute to go over their broad menu. After breezing through the menu, I got the chili carne. I added sour cream and jalapenos to that bad boy. We got a total of 4 empanada. Chili carne, cheeseburger, peaches and apple. Grabbing the tray from the counter, you can feel the heat coming off the food! It was so hot! We worked on the fries first. I knew the middle of the empanada was going to be liquid fire so we gave it a minute before we bit into them. The fries were basic crinkle cut. You can't really mess them up. My husband's cheeseburger was demolished. He enjoyed it very much. My chili empanada was good. It's very messy to eat! I ended up having to use utensils to eat it so I didn't get chili everywhere. There was a good amount of sour cream and the jalapenos were spicy. The dessert empanadas were good. We added caramel to the apple empanada. It's a good combination but the caramel was overwhelming. Next time we will ask for more apple to caramel. The peach empanada was lacking a little flavor. The fact that it was coated in powdered sugar helped but more peach flavoring would have been nice. Overall, it was a good food stop at Tango's. This place is not the fanciest but it pushes out good food. Service was ok depending on who helped you. I was a little skeptical going into this Argentinian empanada spot, mainly because Boise isn't exactly known for a large South American food scene. But after reading the reviews, I decided to give it a try--and I'm glad I did. One quick heads up: there's a sign saying they're moving locations soon, but when we asked the staff they didn't seem totally sure when or if the move was happening. So if you go and they're not at this location, they may have already moved. As for the food, I started with two empanadas: the Gaucho (beef) and El Puerco (pork). The Gaucho was good, but it had a slightly sweet flavor that was a bit unexpected for me. It wasn't bad, just a little different than I anticipated. El Puerco, on the other hand, was fantastic. It's listed as spicy, but I didn't find it spicy at all--just really flavorful and delicious. I liked it so much I ordered another one. The empanadas are cooked fresh and came out in about 5 minutes, piping hot (seriously--be careful on the first bite). They have a big variety too: beef, chicken, pork, seafood, shrimp, vegetarian options, plus dessert and fruit empanadas. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and I noticed several people ordering large boxes of empanadas--looks like a great option for parties or catering. Oh my God! 5/5 all the way!!!!! I ordered 6 of these absolutely amazing, heavily pastries and it was not enough to fulfill my hunger because they were so good. My first impression was that I couldn't believe damn big that menu is. Seriously. You're gonna have a fun time if you didn't study beforehand because I did and I was still floored over how indecisive I was! After staring at the menu for what seemed like forever I finally picked two beef empanadas ($3.75-$4.00), Gaucho (Argentina original. Ground beef, eggs, olives, onions, bell peppers and spices) and Saltena (from Salta, Argentina. Ground beef, onion, eggs and potatoes). Of the two, the Gaucho was the one for me. It was full of flavor, super stuffed and piping hot! Saltena is great as well, tasted like taco seasoning but authentic. From the chicken menu I picked the Gardel (chicken in light marinara sauce, $3.75). Super good! The chicken was tender and juicy. Whatever spices were thrown in there created a fantastic taste. For our pork option, I chose the Rancho (house made refried beans, in-house Mexican chorizo, cheddar cheese and jalapenos, $3.75). Whew, this was a spicy one. They don't tread lightly on the jalapenos, FYI. This empanada was exquisite, my favorite out off all the savory choices. Of course, I couldn't dare skip out on the dessert empanadas. The Chocolate (dulce de leche, creame cheese and chocolate chips) and La Nona (dulce de leche and bananas) are out of this damn world!!! While visiting Boise I knew I had to venture a little out of downtown for this gem. As someone who has lived in Argentina, these are whole-heartedly the most authentic empanadas I've had north of the equator! Although the shop is located on a busy, nondescript street and the exterior looks basic with Latin American flags, don't pass it up. While I had dinner plans and was eating a late lunch, I decided to choose two empanadas to snack on while strolling the Greenbelt: Gaucho (ground beef, eggs, olives, onions, bell peppers and spices) and Saltena (ground beef, onions, eggs and potatoes). While both were spectacular, but the Gaucho was truly flavorful and delicious til the last crumb. A pocket of chef kisses! You walk up and place your order at a counter and then wait in anticipation for some fluffy goodness. What's awkward is the whole time we were there the staff sat at the counter and hung out and looked at the customers almost an uncomfortable feeling. But once again we are here for the empanadas. Ordered a few items including a Thursday and Friday only special bbq sliced beef torta. Once food comes out I am getting excited...first bite into the torta I tasted how fresh this was and the bread is amazing. But the sandwich is totally dry so I went up to the counter and asked for recommendations for sauce. I decided on the hot green chili and it was a great compliment to this. The empanadas were delicious but again asked the front counter what would go great with these....there is a theme here and the theme is to step up the customer service and recommendations for additions to your food. I watched 1st hand how they never asked anyone if they would like or recommend a sauce with their food. This place is pretty darn good! We ordered ahead based on some of the reviews so we're not waiting too long. We ordered: - Gaucho: ground beef, eggs, olives, onions, bell peppers and spices - Saltena: ground beef, onions, eggs and potatoes - Chimicarne: top sirloin with chimichurri sauce - Tinga: chicken, onions and chipotle sauce - Manzana: Fuji apples and cinnamon - Guava: guava filling with mozzarella cheese The shells had the perfect crunchy, flaky texture and had really good flavor all on its own. I especially loved leaving the "folds" at the edges last cuz it's like eating pie crust. All the savory ones we got were delicious, but my favorite was the Tinga. Everything was well-seasoned, nothing was too salty. The only disappointment was the fruit empanadas. The Manzana was okay, but not sweet enough. The guava, I did not like at all. The mozzarella cheese was too salty to pair with guava and it overpowered everything. Regardless, we're excited to come back and try other things on the menu! We also ordered extra to eat the next day, but note that the shells get a little soggy after some time. Pro tip: if you want to revive the shells to its nice, crunchy texture, just pop them in the oven (on a wire rack on a baking sheet) for 12-15 minutes at 350 degrees. read more

I have passed by this place on my way to work hundreds of time and never realized how amazing the food was inside! The crispy, flakey outside of their empanadas was the first thing I noticed followed by the fluffy, savory inside - which are loaded with meats, chopped veggies, spices, and sauces! I've become a fan of the 'Gaucho' and 'Saltena,' both of which contain ground beef, eggs, onions, and their own additional ingredients. Though not as original, I am also fond of the 'La Boca' which is more pizza-like, containing cheese, pepperoni, and tomato sauce. They also have different dessert empanadas and others that contain chicken, pork, and seafood! Vegetarian-friendly as well. Don't forget to ask for their green chili sauce! Each empanada is about size of a small plate, making them great to share or eat to yourself! As far as ordering, everything is take-out only at the moment and they prepare the empanadas as your order them for ultimate freshness when you receive them. Calling ahead to order is also an option. Though the restaurant is small, they move people in and out pretty quickly and you don't need to wait anymore than 15-20 minutes tops for your order to be ready.
