They have a lot of good vegetarian options, which was so nice to find in Nampa. The food is good. The service was great. I got a vegetarian Chimichanga and it had yummy onions, cheese, and squash inside. Coming from the birth place of Tex-Mex, we were delighted to discover this cozy family-owned restaurant. The service was great, super friendly and offered with a smile and lots of great suggestions. You can order ahead and pick up take out inside at the counter or simply dine in. The platters of food are ample and filled with flavor, and their salsas are phenomenal with plenty of heat for those who love spice. We had the street tacos, chicken tamales and enchiladas verde with carne asada and the most flavorful rice and beans we have ever had. No bland food here! Yummy. Found through Yelp since not from the area. It is a mom and pop shop. Not a huge menu but enough to make you salivate. I was able to get one hard shell taco (al pastor) and a chicken enchilada. All combos come with rice and beans. The taco was nice and crunchy and the meat was very tasty. The food was delicious. I got pozole and it was extremely flavorful, and packed the right amount of heat. My husband got the torta with carnitas, and the meat was very tender and the bread soft. Alondras is a small establishment close to downtown Nampa, off of third street. I have probably driven by this place at least 100 times and never noticed it. I'm so glad that my husband and I decided to try a new Mexican restaurant instead of going to our usual standby places. This is a walk up and order your food and then seat yourself, which made me nervous because I wanted a full service restaurant and not what seemed almost fast food. I WANTED TO LIKE THIS PLACE. It had the feel of a Mexican household, and a Mexican kitchen. I had high hopes with the good reviews. I'm from Los Angeles, so I know good Mexican food. This had that hole in the wall, mom's house, low key feel that I love from good Mexican food places. Unfortunately, the food was less than mediocre (at best). I ordered the Pozole, and my wife got the chilaquiles. We've been looking for good Pozole in the treasure valley. So we were SUPER excited to try it here. We ordered our food, and for a bowl of soup and some chips with red sauce with 2 eggs it ended up being 30 dollars! The eggs were extra! The soup was 14 dollars for a tiny little bowl, (which is ALOT for a tiny bowl), and the chilaquiles were soggy and flavorless. Those were 11 dollars, plus 3 dollars with egg?! I understand if the dishes were flavorful, and were made with love, BUT... they sadly were bland and gross. I'm normally not such a harsh critic, and give credit where credit is due, but the food we received, honestly, belonged in the garbage. I don't know if it was just a bad day or what, but even the chips and salsa were disappointing. The chips tasted like stale, store bought basic tortilla chips, and the salsa tasted old and gross. Alondras restaurant doesn't look like much, but she really does a fantastic job of preparing on demand meals. I grew up in Phoenix, AZ and spent a lot of time in Mexico eating lots of Mexican food and loving it. Now that I live in Idaho, it's been difficult to find places that serve authentic Mexican fare. Alondras is just that. Everything is prepared as you order it, to your specifications, and at a very fair price. I'd like to keep it a secret, but I love these folks and they deserve to be recognized for the wonderful job they do cooking amazing authentic foods from their culture. Heck, if you only know what a Taco Bell gordita is, get in your car and drive yourself here immediately for some tasty schoolin'. You can't go wrong with their pozole, daily specials or combo plates such as 2 pupusas with rice and beans. On cold days snatch up the homemade champurrado (a hot chocolaté thickened with corn flour) if you can get it - it's delicious! Excellent prices too. The owners are extremely nice and the atmosphere is family-oriented. We went here for the first time on Sunday and we were very impressed. The food was excellent - very fresh and authentic. The papusas and gorditas were excellent, and the kids loved their tacos. It really felt like we were in a family kitchen. I am glad a few more authentic places are coming in apart from the taco trucks. The only reason it gets 4 stars instead of 5 is that the chips and salsa are extra, and the waiter didn't ask us if we wanted any (regardless of cost). There wasn't really any authentic non-alcoholic drinks (horchata, sugarcane juice con limon, etc), and the jaritos were very limited. The food is edible- but not at all palatable; the plain, dry nachos, tacos, enchiladas, rice and beans were not exactly what my family and I would call ideal, let alone "the best." In addition, placing and paying for my order was a hassle to say the least and they still managed to get my order wrong after multiple attempts to correct it.
