I hate to give this place a poor review but it's just not what it used to be. The sweet and sour chicken is great but many other chicken dishes and especially the low mein smell and taste like feet, I'm not sure exactly what it is but even my kids can't handle the smell of the low mein. I had a bad experience with this a couple years ago with some of the take out dishes, so I switched spots. This used to be my go to for non-chain Chinese food in the area & while the food is good in my opinion, I don't appreciate the sneaky nickel & dime tactics. This is about bad business practice & principle! Example: you order two or more dishes that should each come with white rice and they will give you one large white rice for every two meals (which is actually less rice than you get with two small orders) - or if you happen to order a fried rice dish in addition to a dish that comes with white rice, there won't be any white rice at all. Now, no one is going to starve over this but it's sneaky & dishonest and robbing me to get just a bit more profit. I'd rather they just raise the price a bit than try to play me for a fool. The (Best Chinese food) in the area! Today we had the General's chicken, Shrimp Lo Mein and Chicken with broccoli and egg rolls. Delicious! We definitely will keep coming back for more, cause it's that good! It is a family run take out, so it's not fancy. If you like good food and decent portions, it's so worth it. It Always is so Yummy! My first time back in probably a decade. The son has now taken over the family restaurant and the food is still solid with fair prices. We ordered in person vs calling in and out food was ready in less than 10 minutes. Portions are plentiful and they were more than happy to substitute a white sauce for the standard brown for our shrimp with broccoli. Lunch specials are around $6-7 with a free soda so it's still a great value. My go-to items are still the chicken with broccoli and any of the shrimp dishes. The prawns are huge and there is plenty! I can't comment on the food because while watching them cook I was truly horrified by the lack of hygiene! I witnessed one guy picking through the trash then pick his nose! Without washing his hands he proceeded to take ingredients from the fridge and a mixing bowl and without skipping a beat begin to cook someone's food! STOP! This is not the same owner as it used to be. The old place was owned by Mr Tang and his family. The food was always delicious. The lo mein was deep colored and flavorful. The fried rice was deep in flavors. The spare ribs and roast pork was sweet and tender. No more. The family that bought the place is nothing like the family that used to own it. Most can barely speak enough English to take an order and they are extremely disorganized in expediting the order. We had to go back for a large item they left out of the bag. I'm 35 and I've been going to Tangs since I was about 15, back when he was next to the old small Wawa nest to Total Video (or whatever it was called) I was in the military and I've been all over the world. I'm here to say Tangs Garden has the best General Tso's chicken. I live in Philly now but my parents still live in Schwenksville so when I go out there I always stop by for my fix. Food is consistently good for the area and priced decent. Staff is always extremely polite and have never had an error in our order.

I go here every once in a while for take out. Usually get beef and broccoli and my wife gets general tso. I'm happy with what I get but there chicken has its good and bad days, sometimes it is delicious, other times you think you are getting leftovers. I like their wontons. What makes this place SPECIAL...the food is tasty. Most Chinese food is. What blew me away though was there was no lame filler in my meal. No baby corn. No snap peas. I've eaten at places where you get 90% trash like that and 3 pieces of whatever meat. Not this place. We've been eating here for years and years and have never had a bad meal. Whenever we are out of the area and get Chinese food I always compare to Tang's and must say Tang's always is way better. I really, really like Tangs. I like it better than the Jade Garden which is right next to my house. Granted, I keep things simple when I order. It's usually sweet and sour chicken, or General Tso's chicken, or Shrimp and Chicken in spicy thai sauce, or last but not least, Kung po chicken. It's always prepared fresh and it just tastes a little better than the rest out there. Every once in a while the breading on the s&s chicken gets soggy, but I can fogive them for it. The soups are excellent and the dumplings are also pretty darn good. The owner is a great guy who seems to care about the product he puts out. My fav when I need my chinese food fix!! read more

I went here based on the other reviews and ordered takeout. It was fast and the guy behind the counter was friendly enough. It's located in a nondescript strip mall of shitty stores (the dollar store next door is filled with the shoddiest stuff I've ever seen, not even decent snacks which is what I was hunting for, and that is saying something). I ordered the General Tso's Chicken and a spring roll. When I got home, I discovered the single roll in the half-full package was accompanied by a crumpled napkin, as if someone ate the other roll (Idk if that was the case, other places give me 2 on a single order) and then put their used napkin in it. Unappetizing to say the least, didn't eat it. The General Tso's Chicken everyone raves about was accompanied by bland white rice. The portions was simply huge, which is not a bad thing. But this wasn't quality chicken breast or whatever meat they usually make it out of. It was processed chicken, the meat had no grain and simply tasted that way. The batter was just ok, and the sauce passable but nothing special. It would have been cheap enough, had I got decent rolls, but either way unenjoyable. Would not eat from here again. read more

Tang's Garden is GREAT for Chinese food. I am a picky eater. I don't like to go outside my "comfort zone" with food and don't like many vegetables. My favorite items are General Tso's Chicken and Shrimp Toast. The General Tso's Chicken normally comes with broccoli, but that's one of the vegetables I don't like so I order it without broccoli. My order is always prepared just the way I request. My wife orders various items from their menu (including the Shrimp with Chinese vegetables and Egg Drop soup) and is always pleased with her order. My son is fond of their Egg Rolls. The sauce on their General Tso's Chicken is simply incredible! Its sweet with a tangy, spicy kick. I often "taste test" just the sauce after the container is empty. It's almost addictive. I've had General Tso's chicken from a few other Chinese restaurant's but none are nearly as tasty as Tang's. The value is excellent too. I get 3 full meals out of a single order and that is even AFTER stuffing myself beyond comfort with the first meal simply because it is SOOO good. They also advertise coupons in local coupon mailings so there are often opportunities to save even more. The food is ALWAYS hot and fresh. We always get takeout and our order is always ready within 10 minutes of placing the call. As another reviewer noted, the owners (as well as the employees) are very friendly and intent on making sure customers are happy with their food. This place has the absolute best Egg Foo Young I've ever eaten. It is nice and crispy with plenty of veggies and a sweet gravy that is good on their fried rice as well. Inexpensive, Take-out, Friendly staff. I get take-out from here once a week - Highly recommend it! read more

I've been to Tang's few times over the past year. The first two times were great, everything in my order was correct, the food was hot and tasty. This time was just okay at first, because when I ordered I received a chicken dish instead of the shrimp and cashew dish I ordered. The man behind the counter circled everything I ordered on the menu which was correct, but gave me the wrong entree, so I'm not sure what the disconnect was. The appetizer we ordered and my boyfriends dish was correct. When my boyfriend called up, the man was apologetic and said we could come back out and pick up the right dish. Unfortunately, they do not deliver so I sent my boyfriend out to get my food. The man not only gave us the entree I originally ordered, but he also gave us some shrimp Rangoon and a shrimp roll. I really appreciated this gesture and bumped a 2 star review to a 3 star review and I will be back. I probably will be checking my bag first before driving home, however. read more

I ordered a small soup they charged me for a large they dont put any condiments or utensile in bag i guess they want you to ask. General tsao comes with white rice eggroll comes separate. This is a basic Chinese food restaurant. They have tables for eating in but I have never seen anyone there. Mostly this is carry out. I first started to go here more than 10 years ago. In that time they moved down the road from their original location and ..... well it hasn't been the same. If you live in the area you might want to give them a try after all taste does differ.
