I moved to NYC a few years ago and still drive the 3.5 hours to Shrewsbury at least once a year to get my hair cut and colored by Katie. Her balayage technique makes my hair look amazing and it grows out perfectly so I can usually make it the full year before coming back for my next visit. (even hairdressers in Brooklyn when I've needed a trim have commented on how nice the color is) The vibes are impeccable and after watching her team work with other clients in such thoughtful ways I'd also trust any one of them to do my hair if Katie was ever unavailable. I was a walk in and of course very skeptical at first, but was greeted very kindly by one of the stylists named Lisa and Nancy, the owner was able to take me within 15 minutes. She listened to what I wanted and got the job done. My hair was very easy to style during that month and the months to continue! Nancy was great! Although being an owner, you would never know it. The prices are on par with other salons (not crazy expensive) and the quality of service is higher than I've gotten anywhere else in the Boston area. I wanted a hair wash and blow out the day before I am induced with my first baby. The sylist acted like I was inconveniently there, wash my hair so hard I was wincing, didn't adjust the bowl at all, and washed my hair with ice cold water. When she finally slowed down and realized she was hurting me, instead of apologizing and slowing down, she got pissed and someone else will do it. I said no, it's just a little hard. After that terrible experience, we went to blow dry. Same thing. Hard brushing, and rushing to get me out. I'm walking out 20 hours before the biggest day of my life in tears, and smelling like moth balls from their disgusting shampoo.

After searching online for salons specializing in "curly cuts," I stumbled upon Nina and Ntrigue Salon. I am SO GLAD I did. I had my first visit this morning, and my hair looks fabulous! The salon is bright, clean, and welcoming. I immediately felt like I had walked into a room full of girlfriends instead of strangers. Mercades invited me in and shampooed my hair, and then Nina began my Ouidad cut. Nina was gracious and happy to share information on how to care for/style my hair; she obviously loves what she does, and she does it well.
