Very strong drinks, great music & large bar. Ok let's talk about the rude bartenders though. I've had 3 experiences with rude bartenders here. My friend put his drink down on the bar , the cleaning crew accidentally piled dirty glasses on his fresh drink. So naturally we asked for a new drink and the bartender snaps back-"don't put your drink down there next time." How about instead- you appologize for your staff's mistake and kindly get my friend a new drink? Bad service can really throw off your night - and make you write a nasty review next day. Good bar in midtown west. Stopped in a for a pre-dinner drink. Lots of cocktails (in the $10 - $15 range) and a good beer selection. I tried the "Pinchy Paul," which was a little too sour for me, but still tasty. My wife had the "Sing Sing," which was their version of a Moscow Mule, and it was delicious. The everything pretzel was fantastic without being too pungent and the eggplant chips were as good as advertised. After awhile, the honey was too much on the chips, so I would recommend sharing with 2-3 people. read more

Fabulous place to stop in for lunch. It was nice to come into this warm establishment when it was so cold outside! My boyfriend and I split a Reuben and it was delicious! The service was also great. Came here on a friday in June around 530pm prior to seeing a broadway show at the studio 54 theatre that started at 8pm ... around the corner ... whoohoo Gotta be close learned that early on!! They don't take reservations for small parties so we just hoped for the best... we waited less than 5mins for a table and all went well!! Great unique atmosphere and quick service! It's a bit dark in a there which could be a good thing, I guess just needed my iPhone flashlight to read the menu LOL Great beer & drink selections .... the girls were looking for something different to try and sweet so they tried the cotton club and the excuse me sir... I believe the cotton club won I tried the 18-watt session IPA wasn't too bad but went to my favorite allagash white next! Great place for either drinks or a full meal. I've had both here, and it's never let me down. They have a wide variety of choices for food, and a very good beer menu as well. The vibe exceeds expectations for its location, it's nicer than a standard midtown pub and cosy but not too fancy or stuffy. They have a whole downstairs area which is my favorite section, although I've sat upstairs and in front and you really can't go wrong. Our server Alexandra was very attentive and friendly, always made sure we had what we needed. I can't say enough about the great experience we had at the Tipsy Tea Brunch at Tanner Smiths. My wife is as brunch enthusiastic as they come, and she loves Jazz. When we saw the menu and the theming we knew we had to go. It started by lucking out and finding a spot at the bar in the main room. We wanted to stay as near to the band as we could, what a great choice! The band had a great vibe and amazing talent. It was only the start to setting a great scene and a wonderful morning. The bar was busy, both bartenders were running back and forth but did what has become so rare in NYC. They stopped and had recommendations and talked to us. He did a great job pointing out menu selections and telling us about the tea cocktails. I thought they would be gimmicky and they were quite the opposite. The entire cocktail menu was well crafted and balanced. The cocktails carried their value and tasted fantastic, so much so that we ordered two others and were pleasantly surprised at their consistency. The food was solid, good and innovative brunch fare. We loved the simple composition and easy going attitude of the food. So many times brunch foods try to be more than they are and these kept it simple. I would recommend any of the food on the menu. The end of this long review is simple, you will not be disappointed in this spot. It is well worth the time they take to craft their cocktails and the service you receive. Holyfreakingheck this place is adorable. Went with coworkers for a drink after work, and we all enjoyed the teapots (bourbon was a favorite for all involved) and it was fun seeing everyone get into the tea party spirit. There was a great jazz band playing live music so the wait was chill Our waitress was very friendly and we all enjoyed our food. My dad thought there was a little too much lemon juice or vinegar on his avocado smash though. The other two got the Irish breakfast and I got the breakfast flatbread which had 2 perfectly fried eggs. We also all loved our cocktails in particular. The ultimate place to get drinks with your friends. Having said this, the first time I went there, I went by myself. Yep, I'm cool like that. Did I feel like a loser? Absolutely. Did I have a good time? Actually, I did. I sat at the bar downstairs by myself and had a stiff cocktail and a beer. I listened to nearby conversations. I learned that men gossip far more than do women. I marveled at the chili salt on my Pearl Button cocktail. I thought about how good the Single Cut beersmiths are. This place screams "night out." Starting at 5pm every night of the week, it overflows with 20 and 30-somethings looking to unload the stress of the workday. Strikes me as a good place to meet someone, which is totally NOT the norm for a bar in midtown. In fact, this bar is an anomaly for its location. You'd expect it to be in Greenwich Village or the LES. If you're in midtown and you're freakin TIRED of the nameless Irish Pubs with average food and shitty Guinness, try Tanner Smiths. Walked into this place during my recent trip to NY. Stopped in at 11 a.m. on a Friday and was told by the hostess that they were no longer serving breakfast. Luckily, I asked the bartender about breakfast and she mentioned they actually have a limited breakfast menu (so ask for it otherwise they'll just give you the lunch menu). Had the avocado smash and it was delicious!! Perfectly made fried eggs over a spread of guacamole. It came with fries - which were hard, stale but the smash was awesome so I wasn't too disappointed. Came here two nights ago for a drink and bite before a show. Love, love the cocktail menu for one silly, silly reason :) - they have a picture of how the cocktail will be served. Part of the reason I enjoy cocktails is bc of the cute glassware their served in. Told yah, silly reason. Anyway, ordered the Dr. drink. Came in a cute teapot, plus burger and fries. I had a 5 star night between the beautifully served plus deliciously made drink, and the pretty good burger and fries. The bartender was nice- just the right amount of attentive even though he was very busy. With that said- 5 easy stars. I enjoyed this night and recommend it to anyone in the area w time to kill before/ after a show. I think that this night could have been ruined by these two women who were hostesses? I think this place is becoming more and more reliant on tourist foot traffic and grabbing as much money per customer as they can. They certainly don't seem to be interested in retaining repeat customers who work or live in the area. I have been to the downstairs section of this bar 2 times previously, both times were a nice experience. The drinks are pricey but about what you would expect for Midtown Manhattan, and the vibe is cool. This last visit, however, I was informed by the bartender after he made my drink that the bar has a 2 drink minimum policy if I wanted to pay with a credit card. I have never been to a bar that has a drink quantity minimum as opposed to a price minimum for a credit card. When I buy a $17 martini I shouldn't be forced to buy a second drink if I don't want to, ya know? I agreed to the 2 drink minimum because I didn't really have any other choice at the time, seeing as the policy wasn't mentioned before my drink was prepared and I didn't have any cash to give him instead. Fast forward a few weeks later, and I look at my receipt and realize that the bar is charging sales tax on my overall purchase of only drinks (no food) - another very uncommon practice. If I had paid in cash I wouldn't have been charged sales tax, because tax is supposed to already be figured into the price of a drink. This is double sales tax on each item. Not sure why such a large bar and restaurant serving high price cocktails goes through so much effort to punish customers paying with a credit card in this day and age. read more

This is a great bar if you're in the midtown west area. I stopped by after work with a friend to grab a few drinks and to just relax. 6pm-8pm is their prime time so you're going to have to scout extra hard for seats. We ordered a Bourbon Tea Brunch, a Razor Riley, and Let's Have a Tiki. I'm not a big bourbon person because it's always a little too strong for my liking. But I really enjoyed the Bourbon Tea Brunch. It was really refreshing and fruity - which I love! Overall, Tanner Smiths is a great place to catch up with friends and to go for happy hour. I was ready to give this place 5 stars until something very unexpected happened at the tail end of our visit but I'll get to that shortly... Sunday morning and NO wait at this place for brunch- an automatic score. Typically I'd be weary of a place with no wait but my insecurities floated away as we walked in and saw a packed restaurant and a live band! The restaurant itself has a cools vibe with great decor and a whiskey/bourbon selection to satisfy. The menu had great choices and a "tipsy tea" option for those inclined to have more than one mid-morning drink! Two of the people in my party chose that, while I settled in with a Bloody Mary. And now for the food. I got the "Sammy" with a fried egg, bacon, and jack cheese on ciabatta that was outrageous!!! Much better than I anticipated for whatever reason. Others got the baked eggs, avocado smash, shrimp and grits, and the eggs Benedict- all with raving reviews. In truth, this place was fantastic from start to....almost finish. Remember that tipsy tea thing i mentioned earlier? Well, included in that was the promise of "tea cakes" at the end of your meal- essentially French macaroons. Great, fantastic. However, each plate came with three choices of macaroon, one with what seemed like a strawberry filling, one with a caramel, and one with again, what seemed like chocolate filling. Being the chocolate lover that I am, of course I chose that cookie. I took a bite and bam. Hit like a ton of bricks with a powerful, flavor blast of lavender. Lavender? I don't even know. All I do know is that it tasted like I bit into a bath bomb from Bath and Body Works. Unfortunate because the meal was so great but wow, unexpected and unwanted. All in all, it was a great experience and I will definitely be back! Just be sure to skip those lavender soap bombs disguised as chocolate sunshine. read more

The restaurant has indeed gotten in touch and refunded my costs, which I appreciate, and offered me an opportunity to have a meal on them. Hopefully I will have a chance to take them up on this soon and will edit based on my experience, but I appreciate that they reached out. I think the main problem was their vendor, but I hope they find a better way for customers to get in touch about takeout orders if they are going to accept them. This restaurant is the most fantastic crafted cocktails with an amazing attention to detail. Bartenders and servers were beyond friendly. I had the sliders, stuffed chicken fingers, meatballs and buffalo chicken spring rolls. I believe this place is focusing more on specializing in cocktails. I think they're more about specializing in the flavor of cocktails which is also great for guys who really value the taste of a great whiskey. The server was alittle stand offish. We ordered our drinks and she said "water is on the table" and left. A better server would have poured the water for us and maybe recommend an entrée. But hey maybe I just have high standers being a previous server. I ordered the Smoked Pork Taco, very good and had a lot of favor. My date ordered the crispy chicken tenders.. which didn't look that great and was basically just what it was.. chicken tenders. Our hostess made sure it was okay with us to be right on top of the music and we were so glad we ended up going with it because it was a great view and the sound wasn't at all overwhelming, even as close as we were. Located in the heart of Manhattan, surrounded by excellent restaurants, it's hard to miss with a vintage light fixture that spells B-A-R. Smith's is broken up into two levels. The top (main) floor gets pretty crowded. It's much bigger with a long bar and numerous tables. Their full menu is available at all hours. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to chow down on anything but from the looks of it, the food is delicious. The bottom (downstairs) floor is a bit more vintage. I personally like it more than the main floor. It has a much more seductive quality to it. It also seems like the crowd downstairs is a bit younger (late 20s to mid 30s), while the upstairs is just a tad older. Regardless, Tanner Smith's offers tourists and locals alike a great watering hole spitting out craft cocktails, beers and wine. read more

When you work or live in midtown there's no shortage of spots to go for a Dinner or a happy hour. The challenge is finding that go-to place that consistently delivers on food, drinks and ambience. Tanners always hits the mark. I've been there more times than I can count and always look forward to trying some new cocktail or meal on their menu. Hot chicken sandwich is out of this world and their beer rotation always delivers. If you don't know what you want for a cocktail I've had Jason as my bartender a few times, who somehow knows how to craft one based on little to no info. I want to give this place a 5 star. But the ambiance can't carry it this time unfortunately. We arrived and both my fiancé and I said cool place, great find- (thanks to Yelp) We were seated at approx same time as the folks to our left and right. I ordered coffee and he ordered a Bloody Mary. He said it's pretty average. Not spicy. Celery foam was unique but too bland overall. French press coffee was a winner! Then I ordered eggs Benedict and he ordered sour dough toast w avocado. We waited. And waited. Watched both tables next to us get served and eat their meals and we, well we just waited. They both paid. We are still waiting. I said maybe we should ask about ours. Then my fiancé asks a server (not ours) walking by if she could find out what the delay was. Out comes the manager, who was extremely apologetic but "your server forgot to turn your order in"! She offered to pay our tab and asked us again what we do wanted We ordered again. Out comes the manager and says to my fiancé sorry we just ran out of sour dough but would Texas toast be ok. He conceded (no choice) So out comes our breakfast shortly after and my eggs Benedict had no meat. Just egg, bernaise sauce on toast! The sauce was lemony and nothing else. The egg had no yolk. So food gets no stars. But the manager was certainly kind and tried. And the ambiance is cool. I have to say a 2 star rating is all I can do.
